Poor listening skills. Poor bedside manner. Rude. Started yelling at me because I take vitamins and supplements -- yes, Omega 3s. He literally asked who told me to take them, said no real doctor ever would, and demanded to call them on the spot. Then lectured me about how "no supplements are FDA approved" and asked if I just Googled my symptoms. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a doctor. He left saying there's "nothing he can do for me" unless I'm hospitalized, then just walked out with the door wide open. I sat there for several minutes, confused, before realizing no one was coming back. When I went to find someone, I was told I'd already been checked out -- no one even told me. This was one of one of the worst appointments I've ever had with a doctor if not the worst. I have vertigo and I'm there to see him about my thyroid and my issues and he's telling me that I need to do more cardio when I'm already a Pilates, instructor and exercise on a regular basis. Then he is combative about what my previous doctors did like. I had control over that when I'm following directions. Then he also told me he can't make me feel better. He can put my numbers in range. Been a patient of Dr. Pourbabak for the last 5 years. I've had diabetes for the last 30 years, have seen many doctors for this. Dr Pourbabak has a wonderful wealth of knowledge and experience on the subject and I couldn't ask for a better doctor. His approach is an amazing mix of latest studies and findings on the matter with the care of a family doctor. His genuine satisfaction with my numbers on my blood work is a huge inspiration for me to do better for each visit. I finally found a different endocrinologist and they asked me why I thought I had a thyroid autoimmune disease when my labs from Dr. Pourbabak's office were negative. Turns out he didn't read my labs correctly and told me I had a thyroid disease that I don't actually have. He has to be the most incompetent doctor I've ever encountered. read more

I wish I could give Dr. Pourbabak more than 5 stars. He has helped me to reduce my thyroid and glucose to a normal level after less than a year of treatments. Although his office was booked he accepted to see my husband regarding his high blood sugar and high cholesterol and after a short period of time, all have been reduced to a normal level as well. Treated me for osteoporosis. Could not give alternative medicines, couldn't work with my insurance, staff did not know how to prepare prior authorization for insurance, forgot to attach medical records demonstrating I needed the treatment requested. Was denied and had to go get another doctor that knew about my condition and knew how to treat. Office does not answer phone calls and has a website for you to communicate with doctor but he does not reply. In the end the doctor said he did not have staff to prepare prior authorizations. Doctor should have said "I cannot treat you because I do not understand osteoporosis" read more

A very dishonest doctor. I was referred to him by my primary doctor . When I checked in for the first time, I specifically asked to make sure the doctor is in the network. He himself was there , and told me I was fine and he worked with my insurance. He ordered a bunch of unnecessary test on me and send me home. Dr Pourbabak is exactly the kind of doctor that inspires me to become an endocrinologist! If I were an endo, it would save people from having to see doctors like him! I have been to several appointments with him where he blatantly ignored all of my symptoms, and then proceeded to suggest a course of action I had asked for in a previous appointment which he had ignored before. He has also tried to have me discharged from the practice when I confronted him about his negligence. He understands test results very well, but, unfortunately his bedside manner is stupendously lacking. On several occasions, he refused treatment I requested only to recommend it an appointment or two later. I don't think he's ever taken any notes during our appointments, either. Sadly, I would not recommend anyone to see him, he does not believe patients when they speak up for themselves and believes himself to be the utmost authority on metabolic health. A doctor's primary objective should be listening to his patients, not ignoring them. He is condescending, belittling, and ignorant. You can look at other reviews and see that he cannot take criticism either. It's unfortunate such a poor doctor is in practice, and I hope this review steers people in other directions. If you are someone who knows how to listen to their body, and knows even if the tests all say "everything is good" something is off in your own body, then do not see Dr Pourbabak. He can give you the standard thyroid treatment that doctors have been doling out since forever and won't budge unless the tests say something different. This is not someone who collaborates with you on your health, this is someone who ignores signs, symptoms, feelings, and recent scientific evidence for an outdated treatment system. read more

He is seriously a great doctor. I did not think that they made them like him anymore. He took his time talking to me and he listened to me. When I apologized for asking too many his response was "No, No this is your time." He has a sense of humor and is overall just a pleasure to be around. He is honest and very knowledgeable. He quoted studies and is up to date on current information. After meeting with him you know that he will do everything in his power to find out what is going on with you and to ensure you get the best care. I have had to adjust this rating from a 5 star to a 4 star. Dr. Pourbabak stated that he would call in a prescription for me 2.5 weeks ago. 3 days later no prescription. So I called spoke to the office staff and was assured that he would call in this prescription. The next week still no prescription. I called again and was told the same thing. So here it is 2.5 weeks later and I have made my 3rd phone call and was assured for the 3rd time that they would call in my prescription and call me back. I do not have time for this. I should not have to take time out of my day, in my case 3 days, to harass a doctor into giving me a prescription that he wanted me to take! read more

Dr. Pourbabak is one of my favorite doctors! I can't believe anyone could post a negative sentence about this man. It seems that the recent one star reviews are from people who have missed appointments or don't like the insurance coverage. This review is about Dr. Pourbabak and he is AWESOME! I have seen him for about six years to keep my Hashimotos in check. Each visit he goes over my blood results point by point and then goes over my ultrasound results. He is down to earth and easy to talk with. I feel comfortable asking him anything and he never appears to be in a hurry. He spends a lot of time with each patient; probably more than any other doctor I have. He is genuine and kind and I honestly look forward to seeing him every six months. The only thing good about this Dr. is that he forced me to find a GREAT ONE! When I went into see this Dr. I had so much hope. I actually fought to see this Dr. with my insurance, however when I asked him about Armour thyroid he said "why would I put anything from a pig in my body". Well that is what makes me feel great, I respond to T3 ! He went on to tell me in front of my child that I was FAT due to being lazy and overeating. Since I have been back on Armour I have lost 7 lbs. and I feel great!! After years of searching for a Doctor who gets the T4/T3 need I finally found him but it was after being abused by this one. Dr. Pourbabak is not a good Doctor to see if you have Thyroid issue's as he is not well educated on the most recent studies. I do here that he is very good with other Endo issue's,. My new Doctor said it best.. If my Thyroid does not work, how can it metabolize T4 into T3 which everyone needs.. wow, pretty simple.. guess some people even if they are Doctors just dont get it or simply dont care. Dr. Pourbabak was the first Doctor to properly diagnosis my thyroid disease. He was referred to me by my Neurologist and before that time I had been treating my hypothyroid with acupuncture and natural supplements, all the while I was feeling extermley tired everyday. He is incredibly thurough, excellent at explaining test results and genuinely kind. I know he has a very busy practice but when I'm in his office he gives me his undivided attention and he makes me feel truly cared for. I am so grateful to have him on my team! Frenzied, disorganized office. I saw one of Dr. Pourbabak's colleagues actually scream at their staff, it made me feel bad just as an observer that they were treated that way. Long wait time. I usually waited over an hour to see him. One time I waited 3 full hours to get an A1C blood test and I'd been fasting...took me more than a few days to recover because I hadn't eaten in over 14 hours and those nasty headaches are difficult to recover from. Dr. Pourbabak was very disappointing. A doctorate doesn't give him a free pass to be rude and to make comments about my weight as the result of being "lazy." He told me to stop blaming everyone else for my problems. Really? When I was diagnosed with borderline diabetes I was barely living...I was under extreme stress, sleeping 3 to 4 hours per night, nauseous, and on those famous anorexic meds that make you gain weight (i.e. up and up your blood sugar). I actually gained 40 pounds onto my less than 5" frame while on those. A good doctor would not resort to medical decisions marked by personal opinion (i.e. "I hate fat people", "fat people are lazy") but would look at the whole picture as a medical doctor. He failed to do that. MD's also don't take nutrition classes in med school because they don't offer them. My RD actually prescribed that I stop working out and follow her prescribed diet and so I ate more and stopped exercising...and lost 20 pounds. Who knows where I would be if followed his directions and kept exercising religiously every day and ate less... Also, he did not go to med school in the US, who knows why he didn't or couldn't. Next time, I will see a doctor who studied in the US, not just passed a test/served an internship here, and so should you! read more

This doctor has given me an incorrect rx three times. One of the meds he rx's 25 times the correct dosage. ( I asked a nurse cold - what is the normal dose and she gave me the standard right on same as I have been taking for 30 years) The office staff keeps changing, My meds were not correct in the computer even after a year off my correcting it. This review is for any trans person considering seeking care from Dr. Pourbabak. The entire time I consulted with Dr. Pourbabak, I felt like I was at a job interview instead of a doctor's appointment. Not only was Dr. Pourbabak extremely condescending and deliberate in his attempts to discourage me from seeking trans-care, he is extremely ignorant when it comes to trans issues and discussion. He repeatedly used the phrase "becoming a trans" and told me he would have to contact my boss at work to receive "documentation" that I have been out at work for 6 months, even though I have already received an official letter diagnosing me with gender dysphoria according to the DSM-5, which is all that is required by my insurance, and it is absolutely a privacy violation to contact my workplace regarding my medical history. He also continually badgered me about my decision to use the women's restroom, and when I told him I don't feel safe in the men's bathroom (I am a 5'4" FTM who does not pass in public) he told me I might be assaulted even if I was read as a man in the restroom, "and then whose fault would it be?" He also claimed that he could not treat me until I had a court date set for a legal gender change, even though the state of California requires record of medically transitioning *before* it approves any such thing. CAs Insurance Gender Nondriscrimination Act guarantees the right to medically necessary coverage regardless of their gender or presentation. Dr. Pourbabak's job is to treat and watch over a patient's physical health during transition, not to judge or dissuade a patient from recieving care that has already been deemed medically necessary by a professional. This man is ignorant at best and transphobic at worst. I would not recommend any trans person (or any person allied with the LGBT community) to go to him for any kind of treatment. read more

Our daughter has thyroid nodules and has been to several doctors. Dr. Pourbabak was the first doctor that explained the possible challenges with nodules and concerns clearly and with a young person in mind. He was friendly and approachable and recommend him. read more

He is not precise in his diagnosis and prescribes strong meds without your knowledge and without explaining all the possible side-effects. Dr. Pourbabak always review my entire medical history and take time to listen to the concerns I have. With my medical condition, Dr Pourbabak is very helpful in explaining his care plan for me and the impact my condition has on my overall health, and reviews options for me. I made an appointment with this doctor few months ago, I missed the first appointment. I never received a reminder call(I know it's my responsibility to remember but once in a while life takes you by surprise) I received a call 15 minutes after muy appointment from his office asking me why I never made it. I told them I work across the street andreI could be there in 5 minutes, I explained i waited for that appointment for few months but they strictly said no. Then they reminded me they will charge me 50 dollars because of that missed appointment. I asked them if they could waive it since this was the first time, I still got a negative answer in a very rude way. I ended up calling the manager and beg her to wave it who only accepted to call the doctor and ask. Later that day she called back and said the doctor told her to wave it this time. 2 months later I got a bill for the same 50 dollars, called their Billing department, wouldn't fix it. Called their office, wouldn't accept it! I had to call few times again to make them fix it. Usually there is 1 or 2 office workers happen to be rude in every office but in this office they are all exceptionally rude and unhelpful! I'm a nurse and I've worked in different hospitals and clinics for the last 17 years, I know the rules and I know patients can be difficult sometimes but I never insulted anyone in my career. I also never seen an office staff this rude! Every time I called I talked to a different person and every time I got an insulting rude tone! I recently moved from out-of-state and just randomly picked a doctor that was covered by my insurance and not to far from where I lived. I'm lucky to have gone with Dr. Sam Pourbabak. He was easy to talk to and I enjoyed my visit. I feel he's competent and knowledgeable and a good listener. I explained in detail my test results and made recommendations about my routine diet and certain unhealthy eating habits. I went to see Dr.Sam Pour babak on June 6th 2019 for my Over active thyriod problem he was refered to me by my primary care dr. I had been in and out of the hospital for my over active tyroid condition and was having fever and chills on & off and was having major pain in my legs and back stiff neck and much other symptoms which all related to my Thyriod issue. On the date of my appointment i was there 15 minutes early and his receptionist gave me a few pages of questions to fill out in regards to my hyperthyroidism which i did respond about my pain and condition as well as my medications . I had to wait at least 1/2 hour or more at the lobby to be seen by dr i waited till they called me in once i went to the room i had to wait for another 15 minutes after his nurse checked my blood pressure Once Dr. Pour babak came in to the room he told me why i am seeing him since i had seen another dr. before him he said why should i see you? I said i was not happy with my other dr and i was refered to him by my primary care dr. I explained to him about my condition and how i was admitted in to hospital and emergency room & a few times after me trying ti explaining how sick i had been and how bad my legs & my back was hurting me he told me i have 3 option one is the pill i was taking to keep taking but not a good drug to take and other option is to take a pill which is radio active pill and you stop current medication for 2 weeks and my thyriod gets very bad and he will do radio active but at the he time did not explain to me this pill is radiation and 3rd option is the surgery to remove my thyriod so i thought if its just a pill i go with the radio active but he failed to explain more how radio active work and told me to stop taking my medication called Methimazole 20 mg which my other dr. Prescribed and also while in hospital they told me your doctor was exactly right about your medication and i was told to keep taking it and follow up with my doctor. Dr. Pour babak told me to stay off Methmazole and did blood test and scan of my thyriod and told me he can not give me no meds and my thyroid has to be really bad so he can give me the pill and i told him i am having major restless leg and joint and muscle pain and he said i know you be in pain but do not take it and my return date to his office was on june 19th i was getting really scared weekend was coming up and i was not well so i called his office and asked his co worker to please ask the dr. Weekend comming up and if the dr can give me something for my pain i was getting anxiety since i had been in & out of hospital & ER he did not call so i called the 2nd time & finally in the afternoon after 1 hour he called me being so angry and upset and telling me I am not giving you no medication you want medication ask your dr. I said this pill you want to give me is it radiation then he said yes and I said you did not explain to me anything about the radiation and he said I did I said you did not then he said in what language do I need to explain to you that is when I told him do not talk to me this way I speak English very well and speak farsi he started arguing and told me with a bad tone of voice I am going to explain to you one more time we are going to isolate you for 3 days and you be in hospital and no contact with child under the age of 5 and peregnent women . This dr. never explained to me and he told me I am the specialist and not giving you meds he was tripping . The medication he told me not take actually had made me feel better this doctor is rude not respecting the patient who has been through a very bad timing and was just diagnosed at hospital with sever case of thyroid storm which can be deadly if not cure properly he is careless and has attitude and has no respect overall i don't consider him a caring dr. he is arrogant and if you have a thyriod problem or other health issues he is not the doctor to go to. He gave me so much stress and waisted my time and i was without medication for 2 weeks the way he spoke to me was not acceptable to me I had never ever seen a doctor behave so poorly with his new patient . I now found awesome respectable dr. Who cares and spend time explain the process of my treatment and don't lie actually I am so happy i did not have to deal with this rude dr. Sam Pour babak is very unprofessional Dr. Who disrespected as new patient of him right after that day he disrespected me on the following week I called his office and told his staff I no longer need this arrogant Dr.and his staff told me they understand. Horrible Horrible experience with this doctor and the office. Even the one star is too much, A complete disrespect to the profession of medicine. After being sent by my insurance to this office, I found out that the untrained front desk staff has sent me to the wrong office by making my appointment in the wrong office with this doctor. Once I was seen with a lot of indirect insults, I was told that they will get an approval for an in office procedure from my insurance and scheduled me for 2 months later. On the day of my appointment, I learned that the office had never applied for the prior auth for the procedure and I brought this to the attention of the doctor. What I got in return was the arrogant doctor yelling at me that I have wasted his time and he has a patient every 1/2 hour and told me that he has nothing to do with the front desk staff. I am never going back to this office. The doctor is arrogant and the staff are very unprofessional which made me find a real doctor with a definite knowledge of what is going on.Think twice before you go in here. read more
