When I needed a prescription filled I would come here. They're overpriced but were exceptionally nice. I remember when I would stop in just to chat up the owners because they always made sure I was well taken care of. Salzman Chemists has been in the neighborhood for years. Being that they're a small pharmacy they make it their business to be personable. They recently sold the pharmacy to new owners and I am hearing things are no longer the same. When I use to frequent Salzman Chemists the products were very limited. It did not seem to matter because I always left with something I needed whether it be a prescription, over the counter medicine, stationery or a card to name a few. read more

I have been associated with this pharmacy for years. The previous owners Dominic and Gloria were great and the new owners are just as great. They work with you if you have any insurance problems, they know you by first name and they have great prices on over the counter medications. I especially like that they can get my refills ready monthly automatically if you ask them. No matter how busy they are, if you are waiting in the store they will rush the order for you. And if you can't make it in they have deliveries going out almost all day. If you like vitamins they have sales very often and a huge line of kosher vitamins. I have been going to this pharmacy for years, even before it was bought out by the people who own it now and even though I may be able to get my prescriptions cheaper or more conveniently at a larger pharmacy or mail order, I stayed loyal to them as a small shop until today when I walked in and all their pharmacists who are handling the pills were not wearing their masks over their mouths and noses. I asked if they got tested every day since they do not use their masks and they said no. This is the last time I will be stepping foot in there. read more

My husband had surgery and we filled prescriptions at hospital pharmacy upon discharge from Northshore hospital with no problems. He needed refills so we decided to give our business to a small mom and pop pharmacy. We are fortunate to have two insurances, and therefore do not have to pay co pays. We called before picking up the prescriptions to make sure it was billed to both insurances and was told the prescriptions were ready. Upon going there they went to charge a co payment stating it is the holidays and the secondary insurance does not pick up the phone. I asked if they could try first thing in the morning and I would call and come back the next day. Upon calling I got the same information from Pari the supervising pharmacist that I should call and get them on a three way conversation. I explained I do not know how to do a conference call and isn't this their job. I was told to have the doctor call the prescriptions into another pharmacy. I stated can't you transfer the prescriptions and was told they because one is controlled. Pari say she will cancel prescriptions and doctor should call them in elsewhere. When I called the doctors office they could not believe this! This is what you get for trying to help a small store! I would give 0 stars but had no choice but to give one. Previous owners Dominick and Gloria went out of their way to do what is right! Do not use this pharmacy especially if you have two insurances. They fill your prescriptions. They are small so they are personable. I've waited for my prescription and perused the old and weird selection of items in their store. There is a closer pharmacy, but they don't have the selection this place has. It's not bad. read more

This pharmacy has been in the neighborhood for a long time, however it has been sold and resold over and over lately. It was a nice and busy pharmacy for quite a long time , but the new management is not friendly at all. They are picky and rude and do not offer a lot of needed services that other pharmacies do. I have been bringing my dad's prescriptions there but stopped. The reason is that they would not want to fill the prescription as doctor prescribed ( and insurance covered it as is ), they would try to talk into changing to something else because they don't have other patients for the same medication and not want to keep it just for my dad. When I tried to transfer these prescriptions to a close by pharmacy they gave me hard time, and I ended up ordering all new ones through the doctor. They made it very hard to stay and even harder to leave them. That's definitely not a cool place. read more

Salzman is a small pharmacy that under it's original ownership was stellar. I've been in the neighborhood for 40 years and always used them, even after Rite Aid opened up down the street. It was family run and they knew is all, were knowledgeable (like old fashioned pharmacists), willing to give advice and friendly. The new owners have a constant change in employees who are like robots. They say and do the minimum and try to push refills by constant calls as well as OTC meds that the doctor recommends but aren't essential. The only thing they have going for them is that they almost always have various meds in stock. Once again, they didn't bother to include the package insert that tells the possible side effects, what medications, vitamins and foods interact with the drug, etc. So, I will be trying Walgreen's, CVD, or Rite Aid next time I need a prescription. If you were in their system before the change, you aren't now....you're prescriptions are lost and YOU have to call your physician to get them refilled....now it just seems like you are another number. read more

This has to be the best pharmacy ever. My son is an infant and has had several ailments. Other pharmacies have made us wait forever while the baby screams and fusses. This place gets you in and out and actually will go over things with you, whether you have questions or not. Rite Aid hands you your bag and takes your cash and is on to the next customer. This place really takes the time and lets you know what you really should be looking for in side effects and such!! I highly recommend them!! read more

They are the local pharmacy for me. My parents have lived around the corner from them for nearly 35 years. The previous owners sold about 2 years ago.. so these are probably the 3rd owners. They've renovated it slightly but it's still the same stuff on the shelves. You'll probably want to walk up to Rite Aid for cheaper prices on over the counter stuff. Also annoyed they got rid of the 5 cent copier machine which was nice for my parents when they needed to make copies. Otherwise they're pretty quick to fill orders. read more

I grew up two blocks from Salzman Chemists in Kew Gardens Hills and it was our family's pharmacy for over 35 years. Although I no longer live in the area, I am thrilled that the pharmacy is still open and helping people in the community. I cannot say enough about Salzman Chemists. Its a real neighborhood pharmacy, where the pharmacists know their customers by name, know their children and treat them like friends. My mother actually knew Dr. Salzman and he was a warm, gentle man. I highly recommend this pharmacy - there are not many left like it. read more
