Salween does not disappoint! The restaurant is usually decently busy, but not too packed. Wait staff is helpful and pretty quick. Our favorite meals are the pad Thai and the beef drunken noodles-- a perfect blend of sweet and spicy and savory! We love to share our meals, so the portion was a little smaller than what we'd prefer for the $$. Their fried wontons are about average, but the sauce they serve them with is great! The prices are pretty comparable to other Thai/Asian spots. Definitely worth a visit.. or three! read more

Don't trust their online descriptions. We've ordered from here multiple times and have always been very pleased, today was a different story unfortunately. We ordered two soups which we have ordered before and are listed online as having coconut milk in them, they are usually creamy and delicious! Neither of our soups had coconut milk in them today, as confirmed by the employee we spoke to on the phone. We requested a refund as this is not what we ordered and the soups cost around 12 to 13 dollars a pop, not cheap. The employee on the phone said they couldn't trust us and we need to bring them back for a refund...excuse me but it is your restaurant and online descriptions that cannot be trusted. Will never return or recommend again. Also portions were MUCH smaller. read more

This is definitely my favorite Thai place around here. The food is always top quality and comes out quicker than expected. I recommend the whole tilapia. The skin is so crispy and fish was cooked to perfection. My only complaint is that I asked for my food at a level 8. Which they assured me was extremely spicy. This place came super highly recommended a few years ago and I found it to be adequate-to-outstanding in terms of food quality and consistency. Since then, the consistency in both food quality and spice levels has dropped to all over the place and I think there have been more orders with mistakes than completed correctly by the staff. Depending on who is working, you can get generally competent staffing to complete hipster-wannabe snobbery and attitude (more often the latter in my experience) and the final straw was when I arrived to dine there a few nights ago and was informed the kitchen was closed... well over a half-an-hour before it was scheduled to be. Thanks for the memories? But in the future, no thanks... Edit: Life hack to remember for Salween, they give tiny portions of sauce for spring rolls, not nearly even enough for 1, let-alone 2. Salween Thai has been a secret gem of Omaha in my heart. Being a college student from California, I am always been super lucky with the great food and diversity a suburban southern California town can offer. Salween Thai instantly became my new favorite 2 years ago with their portions and the flavors at an unbeatable price. As an avid curry addict, I always end up with some yellow or panag chicken curry no question, and end up having a good time. I went to Salween earlier this week and it was pretty good. We walked in and even though it was really busy, nobody noticed us for a minute or so, so we sat ourselves. I ordered the spring rolls, Pad Thai #3, and a Thai Iced Tea. I love Thai Iced Tea. The spring rolls weren't good. Super small, half pieces of shrimp with way too much filler veggies. The Pad Thai wasn't spicy at all, like they forgot to put any spice in it. The Thai Iced Tea was awesome though; (but its pretty hard to mess up two ingredients.) All in all, it was okay. Salween is always a solid option for lunch or dinner with friends. They have a pretty wide variety of good food and have a lot of seating space inside. I don't consider myself a regular, but I've been here more than a couple times and everything I ordered was always delicious. Most if not all entrees come at a spicy level from 0-10 depending on how hot you want it. I usually get a 3-4 and am pretty satisfied. In the past, I've ordered the Mango Fried Rice, Chicken Pad Thai and the Panaang Curry. The Mango Fried Rice sounds a bit strange, but is a must try in my opinion. The savoriness of the fried rice and the meat is only complemented by the small pieces of mango in it. Served with two large cucumbers, the dish gives off a very refreshing feel and is very light- as opposed to other heavy dishes that make you feel bloated or sick afterwards. The Pad Thai here is always a solid option for food. Although it is a bit small, it's the best, most flavorful pad thai I've had so far in Omaha. Served with your choice of beef, pork, chicken or tofu and a sprinkling of bean sprouts, you can never go wrong with ordering this. The Panaang Curry is another good option. It comes in a large bowl with a side of rice (shaped in a heart). The curry is filled with your choice beef, pork, chicken, or tofu and includes vegetables like eggplant, bell peppers, and broccoli. It has a really savory, light, and creamy flavor. Honestly its so good I would just eat the curry over some rice! Besides all the good food, one thing to mention is don't come here if you are in a rush, their service is pretty slow! read more

I used to hesitate before going to Salween because their service was very poor and it would take nearly 2 hours to get in and out of the restaurant, but this time it was SO much better! We were seated quickly and were brought our bill very quickly after finishing our meal... Salween has really stepped up their service game! I truly believe that Salween has the best pad thai that I've ever tasted. They also have a system in which you choose how spicy you want your meal to be, so it's perfect for both spice lovers and spice haters. Salween is a neighborhood restaurant coupled with a Thai grocery store. I found it in January when driving into Omaha from KS. My grandma wanted me to bring her Thai food for lunch, and Salween is literally walking distance from her house. I ordered food to go and brought it to her house. We were both impressed. Back in Omaha this week, I took her to Salween for lunch yesterday. It was packed right after opening at 11! We received really great service and the prices are very reasonable - the menu is the same all day so there are no lunch specials, but still, prices are very good. We started with fresh shrimp spring rolls, served with sweet chili sauce. Since my grandma is allergic to peanuts, that was easy and I did not have to modify the order. For our meal, we got pad see ewe ($7.95) and added shrimp, my gma's favorite thing, for $2. We also got the pad king sod, which was chicken, shrimp, various mushrooms, peppers, onions, green onions, baby corn, and julienned ginger. That came with steamed rice. Both dishes were delicious! I asked for condiments on the side since we went mild on spice for my grandma. The condiment case actually included chopped peanuts which was a great addition for me since I did not want it in her food. With jasmine hot tea, the app, and 2 dishes, our total was under $30 before tip. As Eric R. says, "Our exchange rate is good here!" Despite how busy the servers were, we were given great service, refills, and a box at the end so my gma could enjoy the leftovers for dinner. I will return! read more

This place is for real. The only thing that could have been improved upon was the air conditioning... yes, I realize that I may be more critical of this than others, but it was legitimately hot, humid and generally uncomfortable in the restaurant when the temperature outside was above 80. I shudder to imagine what it's like in here when it's 90 and humid. But the temperature would have been a whole other story had the food not also been on the higher end of the spice scale. Ordering a dish on a spice factor scale of 1-10 isn't really anything new to me. At other restaurants I think the highest I've gone before on, say, a dish of pad thai, was maybe around 8. I like spice and spicy foods, but not to excess. A more usual order for me is a 4-6. Bill, on the other hand, likes things a little hotter... he'll routinely eat at the 7-10 end of the scale. But when he tried to order his meal as a 10, our waitress actually talked him out of it. This caused the rest of us to second-guess our orders, but we stayed the course. Starting with the fried meatballs and spring rolls allowed us to sample opposite (but both equally delectable) ends of the appetizer spectrum. The meatballs were dense, the breading was crispy, and the spring rolls were bursting with uber-fresh vegetables. And then the burning began. Thank god I also had a Thai iced tea, because that (4) pad thai was even a little spicier than I'd maybe want... the crushed peppers dumped on top contributing most of the heat. And the (6) salad was too hot for me to eat. So lesson learned, the scale here is a little different. Next time I might try a 2 or 3 across the board but there will be a next time... and a time after that... and a time after that. I have visited this place twice and that is my limit.  The food was fantastic and very spicy on the first visit. Yum.  However on the second visit it was so bad. Yuck.  I'm sure I will not return.  I had combination fried rice, which had a weird off flavor and way too fishy tasting; maybe too much fish oil.  The Thai tea is very awesome!  The service is slow, unfriendly to the point of appearing rude.  So no thanks -there are so many other places with good Thai food and good service to ever bother with this place again. read more

Very neat little Thai grocery attached to Salween Thai restaurant. They have a wide variety of products, about 70% dry goods. This was the perfect little stop after dining out as I was feeling inspired to do some adventurous cooking and wandered around the aisles finding great imported ingredients to use at home for curries and the like. Cute, small shop with about 4 aisles. Could use a good deep cleaning or an update before I'd consider buying produce here. Good stock of a variety of brands and sizes of most popular items, which was awesome. At large chain grocery stores you often find one type of fish sauce or coconut milk, but it was nice to have some options! read more

My toxic trait is the frequency that I DoorDash Salween pad thai. It's my default when I don't feel like cooking or going out. It's just really really good standard pad thai. First time I went here I was told by a coworker that it was very spicy & to get a low level. Went with a 4, but he must've just had a low spice tolerance because I didn't find it spicy at all. I now go with a 6, which, to me, has a nice kick to it without being overwhelming. For reference, I'd say I have a pretty medium, maybe medium-low level of tolerance for spice. I've been inside two of the locations, but only for takeout - the one by 72nd & Pacific which feels more open with a lot of natural light & the one on Northwest Radial which seems to have a cozier feel. So it seems the atmosphere varies a lot by location, but neither was really anything special on the inside. I think takeout & delivery are really their main wheelhouse. No amount of good financial judgement is going to stop me from paying ridiculous DoorDash fees to get this delivered to my door like once a week. read more

Salween is a classic Omaha staple. It's decent food for a good price and leaves you full. They have a wacky spice scale and it's never the same no matter what, so just work with what you know. I usually do 2-3 and I like spice, I just also like to be able to enjoy my food. My recommendation: Their drunken noodle with chicken at a spice level 2-3 is my go-to. I've heard they have great curry and of course, the classic pad thai. I don't really enjoy pad thai but other people like Salween's. read more

Very small, but good for those last ditch "shoot I am in the middle of cooking and forgot this ________". It's the closest Asian grocery store to my house, and I dont think this review would be so glowing if I lived on the other side of town. Certainly not the main store I would be making a special trip to if I did not live nearby. However, I have stopped in here multiple times over the past 6 months or so and they were able to supply my needs the day of/during one of my cooking escapades. There is a small area of fresh produce. Much less than what the larger stores in town stock, but they have what you might call "the essentials". Asian style meat cuts are previously cut and frozen, so no thawed fresh meat, but this will do in a pinch. Canned goods and snacks wise, they have some variety, but not enough for me to do all my shopping here. They cater to Vietnamese, Thai, and Cambodia/Malaysian groceries and products in my opinion. Not many Chinese, Korean, or Japanese items here. Same terrible parking lot that it shares with the Salween Thai restaurant. read more

Perhaps this 5 stars is because I've had some pretty crummy Pad Thai lately. I didn't realize that restaurants could really mess the dish up. I was about to give up all hope until My husband brought home Pad Thai Horkai from Salween Thai. I like it spicy so he ordered me a 10. It had the spice level I would expect for a ten and it still had great flavor (it wasn't overpowered with spice). This dish in particular was put inside an egg crepe sort of presentation. It was pretty neat. This isn't my first time coming here, but I tend to forget this hidden gem. I need to come here more often when I have my Thai cravings in northwest Omaha. I had a feeling this place would be good considering there's multiple locations in Omaha. Their menu has plenty of options to pick from. We got steamed pork dumplings, drunken noodles and fried rice with ka pao. They ask you how spicy you want your dish ranging from 1-10. We got spice level 5 and 6 which brought a good amount of heat to the dish. I liked the drunken noodles better than the fried rice (fried rice was a bit on the dry side). It's a good restaurant, it loses a star for portion size. For example: I've had the pad thai twice. It was delicious! My only critique, the entree should never be placed in a container that is twice the size of the meal.
