This store is overpriced. I saw a plain jumper I liked, for $25! I could have got two new ones for that price. I asked the girl at the counter if the price was negotiable. First she ignored me altogether, then she looked at me with an outright 'no'! Correct me if I'm wrong, but isnt the stock in the store DONATED? Doesent that mean that ANY price they recieve would be a profit to the store? I understand overheads, etc, but- I was willing to offer even $20 for the jumper, becuase the money is going to a good cause. I ended up leaving it there, and walking out......one sale they'll never get.
I think the Salvo's stores are getting greedy with their pricing, and are killing the goose that laid the golden egg. I've noticed this trend in a few more Salvo's stores, too (hello Walkeley Heights!) ...$40 for a suit top, that was stained and missing a button! When I pointed this out to the Assistant, she remarked 'well, we can sell you a button, too if you want.....!' It always amazes me how volunteers can be so rude- if you dont want to interact with people (+ be nice!!)- dont volunteer.
The prices are a HUGE discrepancy between stores, ie- the Nth Adelaide store's prices are even more outrageous than Morphett street.
There are exceptions to this rule- Salvos staff on Goodwood rd are brilliant (and mostly reasonably priced), as are the Hilton store staff.
Word of advice to Salvos Inc: train your staff in customer service techniques, and review your pricing- you are hurting the very people that can only afford to shop in your stores. Dont automaticlly assume that every volunteer possesses even basic communication skills- train them in how to deal with people. read more
