More like 3 1/2 stars... as this was one of the better Salvation Army stores I've been in recently. It was a little further along -- that is further south than I'd realized -- heading towards key west. In fact, it's after you go over the 7 mile bridge. But it was a gorgeous day for a drive. The outside of the store says "Family Store" in really big letters painted on the front. The Salvation Army "shields" are much smaller on the windows and harder to see as you drive by. When you walk in, it looks like it's just a store of used clothes. I wasn't looking for anything in this area, so at first I was a bit disappointed. But the store is much bigger inside. And there's a large back room with furniture, China, bric a brac, household goods, electronics, and even Christmas stuff. The back room is where you should head if you're an inveterate thrift shop shopper. I had to walk around all the shelves a couple times as there were items on the very bottom shelves that I realized I'd missed. And each time I saw something different. No, I still haven't found my "cup of joe" diner mugs or my replacement juice glasses, yet. But it's fun looking. I did find the perfect mesh metal strainer though. It's not quite what I wanted to replace my plastic one, but it's moving in the right direction. And for only $2, I couldn't resist the bargain. I'm sure if I'm in the area, I'll make it a point to visit here, again, in the future. And it's an easier stop on the way back from key west.

A boutique and an upscale thrift and a gift shop rolled into one. Costs ranged from a few dollars to almost a thousand (artistic mail boxes). They have a lot of stock -- not just the tees, but band tees, touristy stuff galore, flowing dresses and skirts -- all sorts of tie died and hippy style clothes (from my youth). In addition, in the very back is a caged area with a few small alligators --for the kids (and tourists) to marvel at. They do have a few tee shirts at a bargain price, but most things you will want to buy are about $25 and up. There were a few band shirts that would have been good Christmas gifts... but not at the prices listed. In any case, for those of us at a certain age, it's a nostalgia trip to smell the incense and walk through an homage to those head shops that used to dot every corner...

It's got its own hippie vibe to it, and the aisles are quite narrow once you walk in, to the point that one could almost consider the place a fire hazard. There is also a small cage at the back of the store that has two baby alligators; you can hold one of them at your own risk & get a photo with one for the low low price of ten dollars. (No thanks.) The store also sells some classic vinyl records & some colorful cardboard ornamental displays (roosters, birds, etc.) of different sizes that can be purchased & then assembled in just moments. It was worth the trip just to get a photo of Joliet Jake & Elwood Blues.

With plenty of free parking and curated items displayed outside, you instantly get into the shopping vibe before even stepping through the door. The shop is divided into different rooms featuring well-selected items, pants, dresses, shirts, décor, and even Christmas ornaments. There's also a men's section with dress shirts and suits, plus a secluded room with designer clothing that's slightly pricier but definitely worth checking out. What impressed me the most was how clean, organized, and welcoming the whole place feels. The staff is wonderful, and I was delighted to learn that it's a nonprofit organization run by formerly incarcerated individuals, helping support their reintegration into society. On top of that, shopping here promotes sustainable clothing demand and supply. I absolutely love this initiative and look forward to continuing to support them.
