Food was alright, but I couldn't enjoy it how I wanted to, order to go and when I got home saw that the plastic containers being used were melted into my very hot food. Also the Curtido & rice have no flavor and I was looking forward to it and was very disappointed. **TIPS are pre-added to your bill at 15% -- when you pay you'll see a screen asking to tip at 3 or 5% which is awfully low so I selected the custom tip button and added $10 to our bill when unknowingly $7 had already been added. Feels very sneaky and now that o see other reviews saying the same thing you would think the restaurant would figure out a way to communicate this. Interesting place. Have been here a few times. I will start with the good: Love the classic rice and pureed black beans. Tonight, I made a trip just for the chili relleno - which they were out of. I opted for what I thought were grilled tilapia fillers, but instead received a whole, fried fish, bones and all - which was mediocre. $21.95. My brother had 3 different varieties of tamales which he claimed were quite good. Of note; Water here is not free! Recommended. ONE MAJOR CAUTION however. The tip is PRE ADDED to your bill... I recall around 16%. THIS IS NOT MENTIONED ANYWHERE I COULD SEE! When paying, their clover or square system ASKS about adding a tip....the choices are like 3%, 5%, 7%. This was my first time trying pupusas and I was a fan! My roommate and I made our order online which was very easy and straight forward. We ordered a la carte pupusas. I am a vegetarian and I ordered the potato, garlic, beans and jalapeno. They were all delicious and they were huge! We were hoping to eat half for dinner and then save half for leftovers the next day but we ended up getting full and they lasted 3 meals. I think this place is great for vegetarians (there were also vegan options). It's also great if you have mixed dietary needs, for example my roommate likes having meat options so it's great to have a place where we can both find something we enjoy. The online ordering was really easy and I also appreciated that I received a text when our order was ready. This place got a major face lift and it looks so much better! It was repainted and redecorated! Went in on a Friday night around 7:30 and it wasn't at all busy. Our server was very friendly!!!! He took our orders right away and made sure to check up on us and that we had everything we needed! Our food was made fresh and was good!!!! I always come here for the pupusas revueltas (pork with cheese) because they are AMAZING! I had the combo plate which includes two pupusas and comes with two sides. We also had a side of the plantains with black beans and sour cream. These were the sweetest plantains I've had!!! They were delish! This place was awesome! My brothers and I were seated immediately on a Monday night. The place isn't huge, but has a cozy vibe to it. I got a elote tamale which was really good to start and the 3 pupusa combo for my entree. The pupusas were great and very filling! I don't normally take a to go bag, but I had leftovers since you not only get the pupusas but 2 sides as well (the side of fried plantains were phenomenal and the bean/rice mix side was pretty good too). I love pupusas and I love this chain here in the Phoenix area. I wish they would expand to the southeast valley somewhere in Gilbert. These are some of the best pupusas I have ever had and their salsa and curtido are great with them. Their service is always good, I just wish pupusas could be made faster. If you want them to taste good it takes time. I would love to just say one word for my review "PUPUSAS!!" but that would serve no justice which is deserved for this amazing food establishment. We love pupusas, and have been enjoying this filled pocketed tortilla of greatness for a long time. After trying from many, this is one of the best. Their revuleta pupusa and camarones are two of the best. Their curtido is stupido good and their sauce is perfect. I actually went off the norm and ordered a grilled camarones ensalada. Seriously good. The shrimps were grilled nicely, the salad was a combination of fresh green lettuce, black beans, corn and pico with chopped jalapenos. All was excellent. The dressing it came was interesting. Really good, super smokey and had little kick to it. Always enjoy their food. Language is typically a barrier when I order food for us from here so heads up, know some or be nice and patient. One of our favorite places to order from. Stopped in to get my pupusas fix. I got the combo of 3 pupusas with rice and beans for $7.95. They had about 10 different pupusas to choose from. I chose: revuelta (cheese, beans & chicharron), steak and cheese and a pork and cheese. I ordered mines to go, and it took a while. Definitely not a place if you're in hurry. I had to wait at least 15 minutes but that's understandable, pupusas usually takes a while to cook. The pupusas were pretty large. Honestly I made 3 seperate meals out of this one combo. They are served with salvadorean slaw and curtido (a red salsa). The slaw here is fresh and crunchy. It's tasty and great with the pupusas. It also had a distinct oregano flavor that I haven't tasted in other slaws. My favorite of the 3 was the revuelta. The three ingredient filling worked really well together. The sides were good, as well. The rice was nice and fluffy and the beans were pretty awesome. It was a little thinner in consistency than normal refried beans but the flavor was pretty damn good. Maybe thats what made the revuelta pupusa my favorite of the 3, the awesome beans they use. This restaurant would probably rank 3 stars on my pupusas radar but giving the limited el salvadorean restaurants in Phx, it makes it 4 stars. *If you never had a pupusas I'd probably describe it as a stuffed sope that's crisp up on both sides like a quesadilla. read more
