I recently treated myself to my favorites for my birthday. I bought shrimp, lamb chops and a beautiful New York Strip. I missed out on the crab legs. I had a feast every day of my birthday week. I was inspired by the cooking demonstrations on the Salt Water Market livestreams. Nothing can compare to fresh shrimp. The flavor of fresh shrimp is so much more superior to the jumbo frozen shrimp that I have in my freezer. My New York Strip was better than Ruth's Chris or Morton's. I need a little practice with the tenderness of my lamb chops but the flavor was there. I experimented with scampi butter, Cajun and other seasonings. read more

I'm as confident buying a big batch of seafood from these guys as I would be at any coastal Florida or New England joint. Somebody in their org. seems to really know seafood (and is teaching everyone). read more

The fresh vegetables seem to always be rotten or rotting when I come in which concerns me about the 'fresh seafood'..the seafood itself has been pretty high grade quality thus far I can say. Pricey on a few items for what it is but definitely worth the money in quality for other items. Maybe they will be more attentive to the fresh ingredients during the more delicate summer days..hopefully. read more

Everything! Great varieties of fresh seafood arriving daily from the shores of the eastern states of the US - flown in or arriving by box truck! Excellent top notch products, truthfully "You get so much more than you pay for!" Indeed the quality warrants the costs, you will long forget that cost and long remember the delicious meal. Scallops are tender and such a nice size. Easy to cook and easy to enjoy. Chilean sea bass is so buttery and easily prepared with some salt, pepper, butter and paprika baked in the oven was so delicious. Live Maine lobsters. Something different each time, if you ever come across Trigger Fish or Butter Fish, however, the Chilean Sea Bass earned everyones love. Wonderful fish market, it keeps growing and glad people support it. LOVE THIS MARKET!! read more

Best meat & seafood place in York County. I got the Filet Mignon and a King Salmon, which was so tender & delicious.

This is a top notch small business that is growing by leaps and bounds and they are so deserving of the success behind what they have going on here. Yes the prices can be over the top expensive, but the freshness is probably something most of us don't experience often. I have been to both the Gastonia and the Clover stores and the quality and customer service is always outstanding. They are way more than a seafood store. Please check them out. This weekend was fresh shrimp and oyster stew for us. Previously we have had Halibut Steaks and Butter fish. YUM YUM! We have already decided on Oyster Stew again next weekend. you know its never too hot out for a big pot of Oyster Stew, especially when the oysters are this fresh! Don't sleep on this place!! read more

I have been hearing about Saltwater for quite some time but lived a bit far away to make the drive. So, fast forward a year and now we live closer...albeit not THAT much closer but close enough. Day before Thanksgiving and Sweetie, being a pescatarian doesn't eat turkey so I thought I'd try and earn points towards the "Husband of the year" contest and run down to Clover and get her some fish to eat while we gorge ourselves with turkey. I called first and they told me what was in the case. Sweetie's particular and doesn't like farm raised seafood so they explained to me the particulars of their salmon that just came in. Sounded appealing and I got in the car and drove, and drove, and drove. About 20 miles. IT WAS WORTH IT!!! I am staring at my "Husband of the year trophy" as I type this review. I walked in and they have a nice case that contained some gorgeous seafood. Clams, Mussels, Crab Legs and some of the biggest lobster tails this former Long Islander has seen. Nice man, must have been the owner, greeted me and we started talking about the salmon. Faroe Island, that isn't necessarily farmed because they're actually in the ocean in a coned off area. One thing I love is, passion (Hence the Husband of the year trophy *wink) This guy was passionate about his craft, you can tell and that makes what he sells better! It just does. I did make a comment about the drive and he assured me that with patience, comes good things so hopefully they'll open a location in my area soon *hint, hint, cough FORT MILL!!! Anyhoo, I walked out with 2 lbs of Faroe Island Salmon and a lb of wild NC Shrimp. We were going to fix the salmon on Thanksgiving but since we had so much, we cooked up some for dinner the night before and WOWEE, this salmon melted in your mouth. Mild, not fishy like you get at the high end restaurants. We haven't tried the shrimp just yet, but it'll happen soon....trust me. I also liked them on FB so hopefully I will get the daily offerings so I can keep returning. I also noticed that they had some other things going on. Turkeys for Thanksgiving, cooked shrimp plates, beef fillets, ribeyes etc...... One of the biggest conversation points in this area, especially among transplants is "What does this area need?" And the biggest thing I hear is "Fresh Seafood Market" and "a good Butcher". Well, here you have it fellow Yelpers......go down and see these nice people. Support local business and purchase some damn good seafood and other stuff! "Cue the cymbals!" read more

I've Yelped these folks before when I first tried them. I went to the Clover store when it first opened and was elated when they opened the Gastonia store. There is something "fishy" about this place and these folks, but NOT in a bad way. These folks know their fish (as well as their other products)! The fish is ALWAYS fresh and there is always a great selection, unless you get there too late in the day and they are sold out. Salmon, roughy, halibut, haddock, cod, perch, trout, if they can get it fresh and bring it to you that is exactly what they will do. They also carry crab, amazing scallops, oysters, and other shellfish. Watch their Facebook page for a daily video on what they just got in for the day, but if they show something that you really must have, call them to place your order before it sells out. If you are unsure about a particular type of fish or one of their other products (they also have Wagyu beef, dry aged beef, Angus beef, lamb, pork, and the occasional exotic meat), they can tell you about it and suggest some pretty good ways to prepare it. They've expanded what they carry to include some preparation items such as seasonings, rubs, and sauces, great cheeses, local mushrooms and honey, pastas (I loved the squid ink pasta). They also carry some staples like cornmeal and grits, dried peas and beans, and rice. Saltwater Markets is ALWAYS happy to see you, answer your questions, make a recommendation on how best to prepare it. It takes me about 35 minutes to get there, so I don't get there every week, but when I do, I certainly stock up. read more

Update: The business owners description of their store is this "Freshest seafood and meats around!! Unbeatable customer service." While Elizabeth and Clint are correct in that description, they are much, much more. They are the type of people who I call glue people for small town america. We need people like them to remind us what home feels like, what good services looks like and what great food tastes like. I can go on and on about their food, but I won't. I will just say their product cannot be beat, ANYWHERE. I want to hit on something that has been incredible during a great time of need in our community and nation. They have expanded their store and reached out to local farms to include more and more diverse products to help during this critical time. They have started carrying toilet paper, bulk meats, more steaks, even more seafood (didn't know that way possible), milk, veggies and much more. They are working 7 days a week to help our little community stay strong. Unbelievable! Lastly, just go talk to them (at least 6 ft away), learn their story because they definitely want to know yours. Buy what you can. If you can't, that's OK too, just talk to them. The conversation is worth your trip. read more

Went to Saltwater Markets in Clover, SC for crawfish this morning. They just received a shipment from Louisiana. We drove 45mins. to get there (one way). A bit disappointed. Of the 5 lbs. we got, 1.5 lbs were dead, EVEN THOUGH the guy was picking them out using tongs. I expect dead ones when buying a 50lbs bag, but not when someone is hand picking each crawfish. I'd rather pay the price to get a 50lbs bag shipped from LA, especially considering they'll ship them for free. That's what we'll be doing next time. Last pic is of the ones we cooked up. read more

Let's start with the bad news.....30 miles round trip from home! Good new, fresh quality seafood, knowledgeable staff and a passion for their products! Worth every mile! What have we enjoyed.....salmon, shrimp, Steelhead trout, and the best Sushi grade Hawaiian tuna I had since moving from the "left coast"! Clint and his Team always have a suggestion for preparation if you need one. And the lunch specials, prepared by Ms. Rhonda are just......SPECIAL! My fav is Taco Tuesday! A fresh seafood selection, prepared to order, great veggies and imaginative toppings. Selection changes each day but Tuesday at the SM is my fav lunch choice. Shrimp Taco's are super delicious! Really awesome local spot! Fresh fish, shrimp, even meats! It's a little pricey, but comparable to fancy grocery stores that sell wild/etc seafood/meat. There's a side of the place with a kitchen where you can sign up for cooking classes or buy whatever yummy food they are serving up that day. We tried the salmon bites and they were SO good and perfectly cooked. They also sell clothing with their logo, and jams and sauces. I would have never expected Clover to have such an awesome store, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. There's plenty of parking and everyone who works there was super friendly. There are also tables where you can enjoy whatever cooked food item you decided to try. Check out their FB page for announcements on specials or cooked food item availability. read more

Clover area finally has a top rate meat and seafood market. And, the owners couldn't be more friendly. Word about this place is spreading like wild fire! Unfortunately, I got here late today. Pickings were slim because they are so popular. But I did get a brisket ordered! Can't wait to smoke that baby! Highly recommended! read more

Great customer service and care. High quality food well worth the price. Convenient store where you can buy meat, seafood, produce and a hoodie or y-shirt all at the same time. Great staff and very informative. Love the owners and the family they have created within their stores! This place is a chef's dream! Great story! Was on my way to the airport while in NYC in airport shuttle and I struck up a conversation with a pilot sitting beside me. He was from Clover,SC...and even weirder he happened to be my pilot that day. I just had to ask if he had ever been to Saltwater Markets. He said YES--Clint is amazing and I go there often...have you heard his story? Thank you guys for bringing in the freshest, most sustainable fish and for your dedication to education with humor on your social media videos as well as the level of customer service you project. Well done! read more

We only found out about this place from friends who had stopped in.. If you didn't know of this gem, you would easily pass right by it! The selection of meats (not just fish, but other meats, as well) is AMAZING! Wow! The quality is fantastic! As meats (and all food, really) should be, what they have is picked from what are the best options, and when they sell out, it's gone! (not more brought out that were frozen etc). We will be coming back here, and hope that they will succeed as we don't want to lose a gem like this! read more

Truthfully, I really hesitate to write this review because I know that the more people who try the Saltwater Market, the harder it'll be for me to get my fresh fish fix. Absolutely the best fish you'll find in the Piedmont. Try anything and you'll be back week after week. All of the grocery chain markets should just close down now because they don't even come close, not even in the same ballpark. The owners are great and local, accommodating, and helpful. Get there early if you want the choice fish because they go fast. The scallops are like butter and reasonably priced. The NC trout was delicious. The salmon superb. Just try it, you'll see. I'm on my way now. Really the only way to improve this place is to move it closer to my house. read more

amazing because these guys are authentic fresh seafood vendors.... not frozen or thawed.... much of their merchandise is still alive in some of the same northern atlantic saltwater that they were caught in. Prices are high. But as a born/raised coastal new Englander with both sides of family in Maine fishing industry; I must say the prices are high, but 100% fair with very little middle man activity save for maybe a freezer truck driving in every few days from new england hahha I need to find that truck and piggy back up there to Jonesport, ME ...I miss my family read more

We couldn't be happier with the oysters we purchased from Saltwater Markets! My husband and I hosted an oyster roast last weekend and the oysters were such a hit. Top notch service, top notch quality, and top not oysters! This is the best place in the Charlotte metro region for the freshest seafood, shellfish, heirloom meats and CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! We are very particular (read:PICKY!) about our seafood and fish, and Clint and Elizabeth, the owners, have proven to us that they know quality and only have quality available at their store. We have had their steelhead trout, heirloom pork, TONS of the freshest shrimp I have ever had, and did I mention CUSTOMER SERVICE? Quick story - I texted Elizabeth while she was out of town and asked if she could get MAINE lobster for me to surprise my husband for his birthday. She said she could so I ordered them for Saturday, August 6. His birthday is Monday, August 8, but since they are not open on Sunday and Monday, I ordered for Saturday. When we went to get them, alas, they were not there. Elizabeth texted me shortly after that (still out of town) totally upset and trying to make it right for us. Couldn't get them that day, BUT she offered to get them Monday and DELIVER THEM TO MY HOUSE.....which she and Clint did. TOTALLY above and beyond!! But these young business owners know they have a good product and want a win-win for everyone. Do yourself a favor and go see what they have. You will be HOOKED!!!! (see what I did there?) I am a fan for life! read more

Saltwater Markets catered the annual Oyster Roast at Windy Hill Cider Bar yesterday. We paid $65 per ticket for 4 tickets only to find that the oysters served were nearly inedible. Between mud that had not been washed from them, the quality of the oysters and the fact that most of them were undercooked there was no way to enjoy the experience. For someone who loves oysters, eats them out regularly both roasted and raw, attends oyster roast, as well as roasting them at home and hosting oyster roast ourselves for friends and family it's hard to imagine how someone could serve oysters like this. I have never been served or served anyone else oysters full of mud inside and out. If you are going to serve oysters to the public please wash them first. We were truly looking forward to this event but it is doubtful we will ever be back. In addition, we are excited about having a local fish market. However I will never buy oysters there based on the quality of these oysters. We could have gone anywhere and gotten a beer and oysters for 65 each or less and they would have been edible. We definitely were not able to get our moneys worth at this roast. Unfortunate - such a great event to have been so poorly executed. We will stick to the cider and donuts going forward. read more

I cannot be more pleased with the amazing quality of seafood Saltwater Markets Gastonia provides our little corner of the world! Rodney & Bishop...both accomplished chefs...are incredibly knowledgeable about the products they stock. The freshest, highest grade seafood and meat is chosen with such a discerning eye...well, I just can't bring myself to purchase fish or meat from a grocery store ever again. Rodney, apart from being a seasoned chef, can even school you on the scientific names of different species of fish...to say he knows a thing or two about what he has in the case would be an understatement. Bishop has some serious cooking chops and can advise you on preparing a gourmet meal in your own kitchen, and his scampi butter is so good you might wanna bathe in it. Stacy is as friendly and helpful as they come...she's the good looking one of the bunch.
