We toured thirteen Barossa Valley wineries over two and a half days. None served bad wine. I…read morerated them on the quality of the wines, the breadth of selection, the setting of the winery (outside views and/or inside decor), and service. Note that sometimes service can be a function of how busy they were. This winery rated 3rd of the 13. On a five point scale, they were: Wine Quality - 5 Wine Selection - 5 Setting - 2 Service - 5 I bought their Barossa Shiraz.

The cellar door is small but also boasts a private wine tasting area if you are a serious lover of wine. The staff were friendly and insisted that I try a red blend which would have been one of my favourites of the day. Obviously they know far more about wine compared to me! The wines themselves were delicious and when asked the staff were extremely knowledge about their wines which is always a good sign. They explained wine in an easy to understand language and made it simplier for someone who still can't quite comprehend wine matching and will drink just about everything. They have a coffee machine at the cellar door if wine isn't your thing, but let's be honest, isn't wine everyone's thing...

My last tasting in the Barossa Valley…read more Kaesler was family owned from 1893 to 1986. In 1999 Ed Peter and Reid Bosward took the opportunity to purchase the property. Their quest was to revive the famous old vines on the property and create legendary wines. The vineyard was over 70% red wine vines that were over 40 years old or older. One of the tastings was Old Bastard. An intense old vine Shiraz. But started with Love Child Viognier 2021 fresh stone fruit notes with just a hint of cinnamon and French oak. Stonehorse Riesling 2022 light and tropical, lemon and lime. Barbera 2019 was one of my favorites. Big and bold. Blueberry, cherry and plum elevated. Touriga 2017 was a new one to me. Originally a varietal from Portugal that's usually used in fortified wines. But Kaesler uses it to create a dry table red. Notes of black fruits and tannins. I was intrigued. Thank goodness they offer a delicious cheese board for purchase. I needed some food with all the wines I was tasting. The board was more than generous in size. Four people easily, but two of us did decent damage to it. They offer walking tours of the old vine vineyard, followed by a tasting at the Cellar Door. Disappointed I didn't have the time and the tour requires a reservation. Only $40. The tasting room is on the original family farm, tucked in behind the Kaesler Cottages. The cottages are available for stays while in the area.

I haven't been to the cellar door yet but it's on my list. I can however say that their Stonehorse…read moreShiraz Grenache Mourvedre is delicious - beautiful spicy aromas!
