So funny every negative review this owner claims it is false. Or her favorite is to tell people how terrible they are to try and give a (honest) review which hurts her small business. Then the next sentence brags about her business thriving and been around for 11 years. Her flotation pod has been around for 11 years and most likely has the same water in it, that's for sure! You could not pay me to return. I thought it would be something different to take my sister here for her birthday, terrible decision. First we went in the salt room that was highly recommended. It was cold and we were in there with 4 other people in chairs that were so uncomfortable it felt like we were sitting on a piece of plywood. Ok maybe the salt room was not for us but we were so excited for the "Floatation Therapy Tub"... The birthday gal went first. The sessions were 1 hour each at $74.00. My sister came out in less than 20 minutes. She told me to go in the room and tell her what it smells like. I walked in the room and was immediately met with an overwhelming body odor smell. I have 3 boys who play football, it was worse than the drive homes after practice on 90 degree nights with all 3 of them! The room had used towels on the floor and a "Shower" to rinse yourself that had a brownish red substance in the corners of the shower that was running into the middle. The worst part of it is when she told me to open the pod.... There was viable chunks, large chunks of hair floating in the tub and on the sides of the tub. The "jet" button was corroded, there was some floating squishy thing, maybe chlorine? I hope it was chlorine but I highly doubt it. The it was "purple" but it had white blotches, I presume bleach stains on several spots. Looks like it was the only one and was a few years old. I picked of this thing and was again met with a horrific stench, clumps of hair, and a substance that looked similar to curdled milk. I thought it was potentially salt but I put a piece between my fingers and it was slippery, slimy, and smelled like mold, vomit, and wet sweat. The pod was a small cesspool, in all seriousness it should be marketed as a "Cesspod".. I have never in my life been so disgusted in a wellness spa. We never entered the pod, gathered our things, and headed out before I voiced my experience to the girl at the front desk. She was kind but assured me the pod was cleaned after every use. Then was able to speak with the owner who does not even live in the state. Sue again assured me the pod gets cleaned after every use. The amount of filth that was in, around, in the water, tells a very, very different story. The hair... the clumps of hair... the stench of the room, the brown substance in the shower, the slimy, chunky, vomit squish thing. The plastic plywood, pokey netting well used beach chairs in the "group" salt room (which group session was never mentioned), literally everything. The owner went on to tell me since it is a small businesss they are not able to issue a refund but offered 2 free 30 minute massages only good for during the week because the weekends are the busy time. She did not even sound surprised, almost as if this is normal and she had excuses for everything. Not once did she apologize. I believe she feels if she speaks gentle and kind that should offset the atrocious experience. Never in my life have I been so disgusted with a wellness spa. $208.00 and a ruined birthday later, I can confidently say I will never return and politely declined the free 30 minute massages. I can already imagine how unsanitary those massage tables are. The owner should be ashamed of herself, I have no idea how this place is still allowed to remain open. If any health officials come across this review, I strongly urge you to schedule an inspection immediately. read more

Owner blamed the customer for bad experience My friend and I were hoping to enjoy facials to celebrate our birthdays and relax after a stressful period. Two facials were booked with separate credit cards. Imagine our surprise when we arrived and were ushered into the same small room with facial stations very close together. I stated that this was not what we had booked. I was escorted from the room into waiting area, reassuring me this would be taken care of. After waiting 20+ minutes, I asked if there was a problem with my new room. I was offered a small 15% discount. After another 25 minutes, I spoke with the owner via phone and was told no additional accommodations could be offered. After a 45 minute delay total, I was escorted to a room that did not have all the equipment necessary to complete the facial treatment, including extractions. Due to the delay in starting my treatment, my friend was forced to wait for me to rejoin later. The situation was never explained to my friend. The timing delay impacted our experience in a very negative way. Both my clinician and my friend's clinician told us that the front desk often makes mistakes such as we experienced. They complained extensively about the management of the spa. My clinician encourage me to seek a greater discount "this should be free." As I left, the front desk person asked if I would like a follow-up call from the owner. I agreed. During the follow-up call the owner was derogatory telling me that I was the worst customer she had in 12 years (?), that I created a disturbance scaring people (?), and proceeded to complain to me about the her personal and small-business woes. She stated the clinicians had complained about me (?). BTW, I was happy with my clinician, tipping 20%. During the call the owner made me feel degraded for trying to get the services I wanted, she insulted me as a person, she said I was mean to everyone and I actually was very kind to the clinicians, in fact, they were supporting me in pursuing this further. When I suggested to the owner that she bring the clinician and front desk person into our phone call to determine the truth, the owner backed down. Only when she feared of social media exposure did she state "What can I do to make this better." I suggested a 50% discount. She said no. Her counter offer was a salt room visit which had no interest to me. If the owner responds to this review, I ask you to ask yourself, * Why she did not start the call with an apology, * Why she felt the need to be so derogatory to the client ("worst customer in 12 years"), * Why she refused to bring the clinician and front desk person into our phone call to address to wild discrepancies in her stories, * Why she feels the need to bring her personal and small business woes into a conversation with a customer, and * Why she is opposed making a relatively small concession (50% discount) after such an intensively negative experience What happened to treating the customer with respect? My friend and I enjoyed our facial but my friend as well as I, were quite offended that they wanted to put us together. We have never in our life been put together for a facial and they never made that clear. Instead of the owner apologizing for their mistake they make me look like the felon because we - including my friend- wanted separate rooms. There is nothing wrong in me requesting for separate rooms, that is not a "special request". If that is their policy it should have been made clear on their website or at the time of making an appointment. If the owner understood customer service she would have extended herself and paid for 50 percent of my services, but she refused. If she understood customer service she would not have escalated the discussion on the phone, she should have diffused my disappointment, instead of making it worse. If you still want to go here, please check the other Yelp reviews and the owners responses. She seems to always be quite contentious. You could also ask the clinicians on how they feel about management. I Do Not Recommend this place nor does my friend. We will definitely get the word out there about this disappointing experience. I am prompted to write this after receiving numerous emails listing Salternative's Christmas deals. I received a gift last Christmas from my boyfriend for a deal that included a salt room, massage and float tank. He went in person to purchase TWO of these so-called deals. The staff member handwrote two separate gift cards detailing the services. I used one earlier in the year with zero problems. I used the second one in October for myself AND purchased a similar deal for a friend's birthday, which I also went in person to pay for. Unfortunately I was later charged for a massage which I did not authorize payment of. Just received an alert from my credit card company. I had a long drawn out discussion with the owner who clearly wasn't understanding or apologetic. She just kept repeating that they never offer deals that low and she has to pay her people and accused me of receiving FREE services which is completely untrue. I tried very hard to explain that this was some sort of clerical error perhaps on their part. I brought in the physical gift card to give to staff that was written by them. Finally after being quite exasperated with the conversation, I offered to split the difference. Now I see the emails with all the deals and specials which is identical to what he purchased for me last year and I am angry that I was lied to and falsely accused of receiving services I did not purchase. They DO offer those deals, which is why he purchased it in the first place, and they should NOT have charged me for something that was purchased for me. They should have contacted the original purchaser if there was an actual issue or better yet they should proofread their own email blasts that are being sent out. Yesterday was my first time in a salt cave so I have no comparison to judge by. The thoughts of a rookie caver... Salternative is clean and the attendant who assisted us was courteous and helpful. I had no idea what a salt cave room looked like or what you did in them (aside from sit). I choose to bring my phone/headphones in and listen to music. They play their own music (think elevator) at a low decibel..let's just say I'm glad that I brought my own to drown it out. It wasn't bad, just not for me. They use zero gravity chairs which are very comfortable. Most people kick them all the way back and zone out. I did the same and couldn't see doing it another way. Our 45-minute session went by fast. Had I not been listening to music I would have slept through the entire session..it was that relaxing in there. As for the health benefits etc...I went in sinusy and came out clear. Not sure if that was the salt caves doing or coincidence, but I'm fairly certain the room was beneficial. Aside from that, the experience is very calming and that's worth its weight in gold. Ok....a friend (Dr. Jenny) told me about this little gem of a place and am I happy. I took 2 of my daughters to the halotherapy salt cave and just suffice it to say, it was a unique and refreshing experience. From the moment we walked into the door, where manager Christy greeted us with such calm welcomeness, we felt the peaceful aura. The natural elements of plants and rocks abound and the smell of sweet palo santo greeted us and immediately signaled the relaxation that we were seeking! It just kept getting better-the salt cave was so relaxing and healing to our spirits. We all felt the effects of a more clear bronchial passageway, and one daughter who has sinus issues, especially, felt the clearing. Afterwards we asked for a tour, and Christy obliged....we were blown away by all of the holistic experiences that this place offers! We all agreed that we will DEFINITELY return. I went to Salternative upon recommendation of a friend and was excited for my massage. The massage therapist was 15m late and talked the ENTIRE time. She was very kind but the constant chatter made the experience the opposite of relaxation. In addition, during the height of this recent Covid wave none of the staff wore masks, including my masseuse. That finally got her attention wherein she told the woman on the phone that she would call her back with the info because "THIS WOMAN IS STARING AT ME" and then she hung up. EXCUSE ME?! "This woman is staring at me"?! TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL. Then she proceeded to tell me she "didn't mean it the way it sounded"! Talk about digging yourself a deeper hole. Open mouth, insert foot. The problem with front desk staff nowadays is that they have no idea how to multi-task and they have no people skills whatsoever. I waited for two mins because the workers was explaining a salt session she was about to start. Came back and I told her I wanted to use a salt session tonight. We tried floating for the first time in December. While I understand the appeal and health benefits, I guess it just wasn't for us. I believe the spa itself is quite clean and great for the services they provide. We would definitely go back to try the massages. We did a sauna first which was amazing and HOT, just like it should be. The music in the sauna is a nice touch, too. The sauna is a stand alone structure inside a private room with a shower and locking door, so it's very private. They provide ample drinking water which was perfect!!! From there we waited in the meditation room for longer than necessary; a girl walked by and smiled now and again, but an update on how much longer or if we were in the right place would've been comforting. We didn't know the process and thought we would immediately go into our floats, but we waited probably 20 min in very short robes amongst strangers. Neither of us liked that. The pod itself is really bizarre and amazing. Both of ours worked as explained and while I completely understand the point of it, an hour was a little too long for me. I enjoyed maybe the first 30 min, but then I was ready to get out. I got out maybe 15 min early and headed for the shower. The shower water didn't warm up, which was disappointing. The soap they provide is very nice, but they should provide shampoo as well. Unless you're going directly home, you can't leave your hair unwashed with all the salt in it, so bring your own! They provide one hair dryer for the room, which was OK since I was in there alone, but what if 2 people needed it? Ample towels were provided which was nice. The woman who explained everything to us was wonderful and clearly educated on the process (I'm sorry, I can't recall her name). It was a fun new experience for my boyfriend and I to try together, and very relaxing, but we weren't addicted. Which isn't a bad review, it's just a preference. My husband and I both did the float tank. We felt great coming out of it. The owner was awesome and has a great story about how some of her services helped with her Lyme disease. This is a really amazing place with some very unique services offered. The first time I went there, I was surprised and annoyed at the lack of organization and inability to time out services for my friend and I. I couldn't even get one of the treatments I made an appointment for because no one told the woman who was to perform the Netra Basti that I had made an appointment for that service. Also, even if they had relayed that information to her, there would have been no time for it anyway. (I should mention I was 10 min. late but our appointments were about 1 hour behind schedule) My second visit went much smoother. Ironically, I didn't have an appointment on my second visit. I just popped in on a whim and hope for the best. Everything worked out great this time and the man at the counter even stayed late for me. This spa offers a number of things that I haven't seen most spas offer, and I'm grateful it's nearby to where I live. It's peaceful and very beautiful. I do agree with some of the other reviewers that the front desk staff could use improvement with multi-tasking, availability and friendliness. For example, we waited 10 minutes just to pay because no one was at the front desk. Also, the men's bathroom didn't have any soap or shampoo and the shampoo in the women's bathroom was Pantene Pro-V instead of the organic products advertised. We did the Groupon for the float. My partner had a mild freak out, and he didn't feel fully prepared for the sensory deprivation - I think having some coaching on what to do if you feel panicked would be good. He decided floats are not for him. Anyhow, I'd be interested in trying some of the other spa treatments or yoga with the Halotherapy, but might be less appreciative if I receive similar service at full price. read more

I used to go to another spa in St Charles that had infer red sauna with a steam shower. Unfortunately their steam shower broke and that was 50% of the reason I went there. Because of bronchial issues the steam and sauna worked perfect. I sent my whole family there. Unfortunately without the steam, I am not committed to my other "spa" and tried this one. The sauna was preheated, ( which many times it was not up to temp at my " other " place, so it was heating up on my dime.) Scheduling same day was no problem and I wasn't rushed. I had all the time I needed to shower before and after sauna ( I always felt rushed before, because the " other place" only gave 45min) I spent the full time in the sauna because I didn't feel rushed and I think I got a lot more out of it also. Very Hesitant to leave this review as I really want this business to succeed. But there was a big disconnect on my two experiences. I have 2 sessions left and not sure if I will go back. But at the same time if I write this review I hope improvements are made so not to lose a customer. My first session, several weeks ago was on a Sunday. I arrived early and the opener was late. One of the employees, super sweet walked up to my car to let me know the employee was 15 minutes away. I used the flotation tank for the first time, Never got jets turned on, tried to call on the buzzer and gave up. I did let the girl know and she apologized. Hence, i never relaxed and was tense that the pod would not alert me when my time was over. After my experience I showered in the locker room and this applies to both visits: Water takes 5 minutes to heat up, farthest shower was not cleaned, due to the hairpin that remains on the floor with visits 3 weeks apart, My second visit was unpleasant as I arrived with a new client, I went into my tank jets on this time.....yay. I pressed the button for my time to start 3 times.....no one said enjoy your float, so with the jets on I thought I was good. 20 minutes into my float, the tank shut down, pitch dark no jets, I thought wow that was a fast float, got up looked at my watch and realized there is a mistake. I press the button and the girls says....Enjoy your float. OK, but now, no jets, no lights. I press the call button no response. At that point I am sitting in the tank waiting to see that it should have been cleaned before I got in. At this point I get out and leave, The girl at the desk was busy talking about aura, so she said oh did you enjoy your first float? I said this was my second. She said, Oh that's right you have been here before. Continues her discussion about Aura. Then as I walk out the door says thanks for coming Teresa.....Not my name, that was the new lady. I drive 45 minutes to get there and was only hoping for a better experience. I really wanted to love this place and utilize the other services, but afraid to go back as I am not sure I will enjoy them. At this point I think the owners need to be present to make sure this place is giving the customers the education and attention they deserve. This is by far a most unique & awesome experience. My boyfriend and I had been to floatation tanks before & none compare to these. We're used to let's call them "the old-fashioned kind" but they have very updated ones here & everything is so clean & makes the experience so comfortable. Our massages were outstanding. My boyfriend had been having back and neck problems from work & he couldn't believe how much better he felt after this massage. In addition they have the Vitamin D bed which is an awesome way to get your Vitamin D with most harmful rays blocked out- great for winter blues! They also have an infrared sauna which is so great for detox. And on top of that a salt cave. I have been to different salt caves & was so glad to see they had the system in this one that actually filters the salt particles throughout the air so you get way more benefit breathing it all in. From the moment I walked in the door I could feel the relaxation and fantastic energy emanating from this place. Their staff is so incredibly friendly and thoughtful. Every time I have come here I am treated with the utmost professionalism and calm demeanor - regardless of the person I interact with. I have used their amazing floatation tanks several times and love the little extras they include like Bees Wax Jelly and organic cotton swabs (a floatation tank lover's dream come true!). Their infrared sauna is to die for - I spent 30 minutes in it and felt absolutely amazing. After using their services there is a quaint meditation room set up where I like to journal and relax after a good float. They even bring you tea! What a treat to have a 90 minute massage from Chona, who was very knowledgable and has a passion for her profession! Leah, the owner, was friendly and a delight to chat with. I read a couple of the reviews and feel I have to address the cleanliness factor. It is important to know that I am a clean freak! I'm writing this review a few months after my last (and final) massage there. Long story short, they had a fabulous massage therapist there. She had been there since they opened. When I called to make appt they said she's no longer there but they have another excellent mass therapist. I could write an essay on why this was the weirdest/worst massage of my life. I felt like I was being punked. There is no way in h*** this lady had ever given a massage in her life. No way. She had no idea what she was doing. I literally would have laughed it wasn't such a waste of money. Anyway, this spa is nice on the inside and has some cool things to offer. Just be careful and know who you are getting for a massage. read more
