Review for massage only: As you can tell, I don't often provide feedback on Yelp. I felt compelled to do so after my HORRIFIC experience. Massage therapist (I think her name was Danuta) was rude and unprofessional- she shamed me for using a Groupon and demanded that I have the hot stones for an upcharge despite me saying no. Massage was completely rushed and unfocused - it didn't seem like she knew what she was doing. She would touch my shoulder then stop and suddenly after 20 seconds of no contact she was at my foot? The kicker was when she left the room to take a phone call for 10 minutes! What?? Absolutely terrible - I left WAY more stressed then when I arrived. read more

Took my son in for haircut months ago and when I walked in they asked if they could help me and said yes a haircut. They said ok then asked if it was for me or him. When I said for my son they said sorry please make appointment. The entire reason I walked in is because the front door says "walk-ins welcome". 2nd time trying on a different date we "walk-in" again because other salons were closed and The lady took my son right away. I explained his normal haircut that I haven't had issues with before. Well unfortunately I can't not post an honest review. It was crooked and looked like a trainee did it. Maybe too modern for the stylist so they had trouble? We won't be going back bummer. I was impressed with how services, hair product, wigs, and jewelry that was displayed. Let me start off by saying the woman at the front desk which I'm assuming was the manager was the most condescending person. I was extremely unhappy with a botched color and cut and I was basically told it "wasn't that bad" I ended up arguing my point for about thirty minutes about my unhappy experience to the point that she ended up cutting me off and telling me "to stop my whining and she will give me a partial refund, since this is just going to ruin your day and mine too." As if her day being ruined for MY botched hair had anything to do with my refund. Also the stylist was so kind but was very outdated. He didn't even dry my hair all the way because he clearly didn't know how to do a blow out with someone with curly hair. I left the salon with my hair still wet.... Overall kind stylist (but botched my hair) and EXTREMELY rude owner. I would take your business elsewhere if you want basic respect. Pics below are what I got besides what I asked for. read more

Massage Only Review: (Groupon Purchase July 2021) The massage was very stressful and unenjoyable. European masseuse pressured me to add services I did not want and also pressured me to give her a big tip (which I usually do anyway). I wanted a relaxation massage instead she insisted on deep tissue and stones, talking the entire time about her own health problems and poor financial condition. I finally asked her to stop because I came to relax and she did. It was also quite painful which I also asked her to stop but she refused, saying it's necessary and next time will be better. She seemed very qualified however the owner needs to talk to her about her hard selling, pushiness, bedside manner & lack of professionalism. It's a shame because the salon itself is beautiful and like an oasis in a strip mall. read more

I made my first appointment ever at Salon 21 a week ago, and I was SO pleased with my haircut! Rella was my stylist. I was looking for a new short cut suitable for a woman over 60 (me), and once I gave a general idea of what I wanted, I left the rest to Rella. So happy with the results! 0 stars!!!! Absolutely ridiculous experience here. Had a groupon for a massage to the try this place out. Massage therapist arrived 15 minutes late and I didn't get the full hour. The lady doing the massage was condescending toward the groupon and didn't even provide a true massage. It was a weak "rubbing" with an upcharge for hot stones that I DIDN'T ASK FOR. I took my 6 year old daughter to get her ears pierced for the first time today. She was nervous... I was nervous.. but I have to say that Rella did an amazing job!! She was absolutely wonderful with my daughter. She was kind, gentle, reassuring and very patient with her! I was apprehensive about getting it done, but Rella made it a great experience! My review is only for the facial service I had recently. It was a very good experience, and I will be a return customer. Danuta did the facial, and I feel she is very experienced and very nice. She took her time using several special tools for cleansing, masks, exfoliating, etc. My face looked and felt amazing when she was done! I would say the best it has ever, and I've had many facials over the years. read more

I'm still very upset with Rella and salon 21. I was hoping that after maybe a few weeks, the skin that she tore so brutally would heal on it's own. Well, it's been 1.5 years now and that area looks like it's permanently disfigured. Probably a good inch of skin is gone. Without even giving birth. I truly regret going to her and whenever I think about it, I feel an immense amount of sadness. I wish I could've just skipped getting that groupon. I think I should've/can take legal action. No waxer worth her salt would permanently change how you look down there by her brutal techniques. Because of Rella, I have not been waxed again out of fear and trauma. I had a spa finder gift card and took a chance getting a much needed haircut with a new stylist. Let me just say I was so impressed! They were able to fit me in on a Saturday and Lisa did a fabulous job!! She was kind and welcoming. She took her time and gave me the cut I was looking fo. This place is pretty good. I usually tint my eyebrows in here and get a massage. The eyebrow service could be a bit better. It doesn't really take 30 minutes to tint your eyebrows... PLEASE don't take effin breaks when I am laying there with my eyes covered wondering if my eyebrows will be pure black because i am there for so long!!!! (luckily I was okay). Massages are totally different, I felt soooo good after one that I was tempted to sign up for their monthly service ( I didnt just because it's too far for me). read more

I posted my full review in photos because it was too long to post in here. Long story short, I spent three visits , nearly nine hours, almost a hundred dollars for the worst customer service of my life and the worst hair services I've ever experienced. I've worked in customer service for almost nine years and never experienced the disrespect I did in this salon. Quick recap Visit 1 - Asked for teal highlights to be covered and trim. Left with wet shirt, wet hair and hair not styled as I asked and more taken out of my thickness than I wanted . I got home and noticed there was still a lot of teal in the sunlight. Visit 2 - Teal looked covered until I got in the sunlight the next morning. Visit 3 - Felt like my hair was going to be ripped out of my head, my hair now looks black instead of brown. Here's the conversation / most disappointing part I was on my way there and was under the impression the owner / manager would now be doing my hair. I walked in and was greeted by a stylist and was told she'd be doing my hair. I explained I was under the impression Rella was doing my hair. Shes said she can help me but I'm doing it. Rella looked at my hair and saw the teal and said do what I told you. My stylist then said she was under the impression you were doing her hair where I was given a laugh and a oh no I'm not doing your hair and she walked away , never to speak or acknowledge me again. The stylist then did all over color to my hair. Let's fast forward to her being done where my hair was half dry and she asks " Happy now? " filled with sass. I said not really my hair looks black. She said well the teals gone . I said right but I didn't come in asking for black hair. She said well you've got a lot of product on your head you've been here three times this week. I said that wasn't my choice though. She said well eventually your hair will lighten up. I said well I surely hope so because this isn't what I paid for either. She told me I was free to leave now. Its a week and a day later and hair dye is still pouring out of my hair when I shower, my towels and tub are stained with the dye. If I scratch my head , hair dye is under my nails. Yes, I only use color protectant, non sulfate , salon quality hair products as well. I also have a weird patch of color . I just wish I could have my money back , I wouldn't wish my experience to my worst enemy. I don't recommend going here to anyone. I'm still in disbelief. read more

I went here with my mom for mani-pedis and then facials two days later. The experience was ok, and I'll review both experiences here. We were happy to be able to get walk in appointments for the mani-pedis. Unfortunately they were not great at all. The pedis were done in a dimly lit back room and the polish application was definitely lacking. The woman working on my toes unfortunately clipped a cuticle on my toe (which is painful, but not the end of the world!), however she COMPLETELY neglected the rest of my cuticles on my feet and hands. The manis were ok, but again the polish application wasn't great and the woman neglected my cuticles which were a mess. I got a gel polish and it just wasn't done very well. Also, while my mom was getting her nails done, one of the employees told her that the owner doesn't buy the best nail tools or mani-pedi supplies. She said that they only rarely get mani-pedi customers. I would not go back again for nail service, especially following that comment. Even though the nail service was less than we hoped for, we were talked into getting facials there a few days later. It was a relaxing experience for both of us and that's the reason why I'm even giving this two stars. I'm not sure how good of a facial it was, but it was definitely better than the nail work! Overall, the majority of the staff was very nice. I didn't get the best vibe from the owner, who made it pretty clear she was doing us a service squeezing us in for nail appointments the first day. I don't plan on going back, but their other services may be better than the ones we experienced. read more

If I could give 1/2 stars I'd give this a 3 1/2 start rating but I can't sooo... I have been coming here for at least the past couple years. Salon 21 has been around for a while althought it's relatively new to it's current space (back in the day it used to be just across the parking lot where the Panda Express is now). I had gone there a couple times but then moved on to another salon for various reasons. But I wound up coming back and have been here ever since... I used to see a girl who did great color and a pretty nice cut too...but she got fired...sigh. So, I tried someone new...Lisa...and have been with her ever since. She always does just what I ask her to do and she is NOT scissor happy. I am always happy with my cut and particularly happy with the cut she just gave me this past Saturday. I've never had a color done by her though I can't imagine she'd do a bad job.I've never had any other services done...such as mani, pedi or laser treatments so I can't speak to those. I wish the salon were a little more updated or styled or something...it's hard to put my finger on it. It bugs me that the owner (who does cut hair) wears FLIP FLOPS. Eeeuw. Hello, hair on floor + bare feet in flip flops = gross. She does have a nice selection of wigs though and soemtimes hats/caps catering to the victims of hair loss which I think is really great. A cut and style is 45 bucks....could be cheaper but could be more expensive too. Like I said I'm never disappointed with Lisa and for that reason I couldn't bring myself to give Salon 21 less than a 4 star rating. read more

Got a massage from Danute and she was amazing. I started to develop a knot in my shoulder (teaching high school kids - eye roll) and a migraine. She took me and suggested a deep tissue (ouch) massage but with hot stones. It did the trick and I wasn't in a whole lot of pain. She really knows what she's doing! And she's sweet to boot - in passing the boss was pretty cool too. Very good hair products! I will definitely be coming back and bringing my husband too. read more

Horrible impression. I had a "1st time client" mailer and I will never go back. They made me wait in the uncomfortable waiting area, even though there was NO ONE else in the entire place on a Saturday. I could tell they weren't happy I had the 1st time client coupon, the greeter girl said "Well, that's just for a wet cut, NOTHING else" and neither she nor my stylist said much else the entire time I was there. The marketing card gets me in, and in a service industry your SERVICE is supposed to make me want to come back. It did NOT. Neither did the ambiance of the salon. The entire place needs to be updated, I couldn't wait to get out. It has a boring, depressing feel to it, not to mention the soundtrack to the Sound of Music playing in the background and the 2 working people in the salon dressed like Amish women. However, at least Amish women are friendly, unlike these two. If you're not a people person, don't chose a profession where you deal with people all day. They charge $45 for the regular TRIM, I get better service, music and attitude at Great Clips, where you don't need an appt. or a coupon. read more

Poor customer service and inconsistent pricing. I came here for a haircut after I moved to this area from downtown Chicago. I have gone to Aveda salons for the last 10 + years in several different cities and have never had an issue. Before scheduling my haircut, I did some research and this salon seemed like a convenient location for me. The haircut was advertised as $45 for a cut and style. When I arrived, the hair stylist was nice but not thorough. I came after showering so my hair was still wet, and so she just sprayed my hair down slightly to keep it damp. There were no added perks that I have seen at most other Aveda clinics (hair shampoo, aromatherapy oils, scalp massage etc). She asked me briefly what I was looking to have done and proceeded to cut my hair. While blow drying my hair, she simply used her fingers to comb through my hair and style as she dried and continuously pulled my hair throughout the entire process. My neck and head were very sore afterwards and the entire process was pretty uncomfortable and painful. The haircut was mediocre and the styling looked awful, she informed me that flat ironing my hair would be an additional $10. I declined, and the entire cost ended up still being $65 instead of the advertised $45. When I went to check out, the receptionist was rude and overall I left the salon thinking I would never go back. I wish I had known this before going. Don't waste your money. read more

If you are looking for service do not go here. I was scheduled for a pedicure this afternoon and upon arrival was told they were setting up. Over the next 25 minutes 2 people walked to the front of the salon to take phone calls and make appointments, but neither checked on me to see what I was waiting for. The salon was completely empty, which should have been a sign, but they were quite busy talking about smoothies and filling tires with air that apparently they don't need customers. I was really looking forward to a little relaxation but will now take my business elsewhere. Don't waste your time or money at Salon 21 in Wheaton!!! read more

holy hell. I have truly never written a bad review of a place on yelp but some things need to be said about the Brazilian wax i received today... I got it on groupon so i guess you get what you pay for ($25) but i straight up felt like i was getting beat up, this woman was so rough she actually ended up busting a capillary around my inner thigh that i didn't realize until I got home, perhaps i just have weak skin but now I have this ugly ass bruise and a sore lady.... i've also been getting wax's regularly for the past 2 years and this was by far the most abrasive. I just don't know if she didn't receive proper training or if she was just being too fast but it wasn't right... she also made me get on my hands and knees for the back strip and by god i truly have never felt so uncomfortable. I will be sending them an invoice for my next 2 months of therapy. So all in all if you're looking for a place where they man handle your vagina and leave you busted and bruised you're in luck!!! safe to say i will not be returning read more

The tech that did my pedicure was sooo sweet. She was very easy to talk to and did a neat job. However, this shop just isn't worth their prices. I went in for a pedicure which was $40 but I noticed the menu had a mani/pedi combo $48 which seemed alright. However, I was seated at the chair and the water was cold.. I asked if the water could be made warmer and the tech did so with no problem! However I noticed the tools that were used didn't come out of a sterile pack and the tech did make a comment about needing to go to the back to get a new tool. Im not sure how these tools are sterilized. It also looked like the same tools were used for my manicure but im unsure if they were cleaned. At the end of my manicure the tech stated the manager told her the combo wasn't taken off the menu in January so the normal price for a mani/pedi would be $70 but she would give me a $10 discount. The service received was no where near $70. I've received pedicures from shops that had a luxurious feel that was accompanied with a calf massage, wax on my feet, and a sugar scrub. This place was no where near that. The employees (with the exception of the younger ladies that were in) were very dry. The manager did end up honoring the $48 price only after telling me to look online for recent prices and that the menu was old. It's nearly March, why is there even still old menus being given if the prices differ so greatly and the changes were made so long ago? This place is just not worth the money at all. read more

I saw this establishment and went in and Rella took me right away. She was very polite and professional. Did a nice job on waxing my eyebrows. The salon is very neat and clean. But I did notice it was a little dark in there for a salon. Eye brow was was a good price ( I am use to paying $5 more elsewhere). Just as a side note, for those ladies that are having chemo/radiation, they do have a pretty big selection on wigs (not sure of prices tho). read more

Moving into Wheaton I was looking for a Goldwell Salon. I asked for the most experienced hair stylist. I got Rella, the owner. She is fantastic! The hair color and hair cutting are better then I received in the high end Salon I wrny to in downtown Chicago. Rella is truly gifted and I am thankful to find this great Salon. read more

I wouldn't recommend ear piercing here. I brought my 7-year-old in to get her ears pierced, the woman (older, blonde lady,) was rude to me and my daughter. Once she was done, I noticed that the piercings are super uneven. I was mortified, but couldn't bear putting my daughter through that again. Now she has uneven holes and I hope hugely regret bringing her here. read more

I am surprised by the higher reviews of this salon. I am not a fan. Many years ago I tried this salon for eyebrow waxing. I was taken to a room that I believe was actually a closet. There was a table there to do the waxing, but there was just stuff piled up everywhere. After this experience I decided I would not use for salon services. I did continue to go here to purchase my Aveda hair products. However, I have had a couple run ins with the older woman that works there on the weekends doing hair and she is not at all friendly or helpful. So, now I will be getting my products at the new Aveda salon in downtown Wheaton. There are so many salons in the area, I would not recommend going to this salon. read more
