It's close to the final station which is Torquay on this line, a place where the station cafe makes great food, and is right on Newton Road which is the road that goes to Newton Abbot. There are some Suburban stores right next to it, and it's old and pretty and features a really lovely tower at the entrance. The tower is reminiscent of something totally different from somewhere totally different.

This little old steep grade slow speed train will take you up and down the cliffs and it's one of the highlights of this lovely little South Devon region. It's a beautiful part of the country and it's a beautiful sight and ride to come and enjoy. It connects the beach with the downs and is not really a train in the traditional sense, but a funicular railway. It's also now a charity owned thing rather than council owned.

It's not a very long journey but the view from the carriage is amazing. We were going to go again before we came back home but didn't get chance. It was £5 for a family one way (I think it would have been the same for a return ticket as well).

It is a lovely way to enter the town. The station is small but it has everything you need, a ticket machine, ticket office with lots of information leaflets, toilets, cycle storage and a great little cafe. I can recommend the bacon baps and a hot mug of tea. When you leave the station there is a taxi rank at the front and the bus station is just across the road. If you don't have too much luggage you can easily walk to the central hotels and B & B's. If you have just come for the day the beach is less than 5 minutes away.

The staff in charge of refreshments where so nice and informative about delays if any, and one obviously impatient man~who for some reason swore & stomped off! Don't know why! There was a couple of people waiting but we were all quite happy chatting away to each other and if he had waited he would've been next! HE was the only thing wrong with the journey & HE was the only one who was at fault! The young girl behind the counter was very efficient and polite. On the return journey the staff with the refreshments ~ where so friendly and funny. These staff both at Paignton station & on the trains are an asset to your name~ well done guys! The train and the station where both clean & well kept~ a little old maybe but that just adds to the quaint charm it has. Unfortunately my partner lost his phone either on the return journey or in the taxi we had outside to go back to Brixham. It is only a one touch mobile not worth a great deal but as you know, all contacts and information is kept on it and he is quite lost without it! If by chance anyone has come across it or handed it in, we would be grateful if you could email me at: alyathome@gmail.com and I will arrange to pick it up. many thanks and thankyou for a great day out.

I take First Capital Connect from Mill Hill to Brighton or from Central London to Brighton…read more Riding on First Capital isn't cheap ( approx. 20 pounds to Brighton, sometimes less depending on ticket times) but the seats are plush, and there are loos. I die on the Tube sometimes when I need to go and I have to wait an hour. Here you just use the loo. The lack of soap doesn't even matter. Curex Hand Sanitizer will save the day! I like First Capital and I like Brighton. I wish I could use First Capital instead of the Tube but I could never live outside of the big city. I just don't do that.

Reaching the house once leaving the ferry is a bit of a trek uphill so make sure you have comfortable walking shoes on. Entry price is around £9 each but they do pretty much guilt you into making a 10% donation to Gift Aid (which is added to the entry price without asking and most people are too embarrassed to ask for this to be removed). The staff also try to sell you National Trust membership which is rather annoying as this really slows down the queue to get in. Once inside you can get some food in the café/restaurant although the prices are quite steep and the queues and service are horrendously slow. You can explore the grounds at your leisure and includes lovely views which you can imagine enthralled Agatha Christie as a child. Entering Greenway House is a lovely experience with the tour guides telling you that you enter as a visitor through the front door and leave via the back door as a friend of the family. Each room in the house can be explored at your own pace. There are items from Agatha Christie's childhood and later life in every room from dolls to books to diaries to items she collected and her piano and music that she wrote. You are not allowed to take photos inside the house. All in all a visit to the house shouldn't take longer than 2-3 hours maximum. A worthwhile experience for fans of Agatha Christie.
