Their menu is very similar to most other local pizzerias: there is nothing special that stands out though they do offer a 24-inch pizza again. Service is friendly and enthusiastic. Decent enough food. But questionable practices. The pizza fries is just a bad idea. It's french fries smothered in marinara and mozzarella cheese. Way too soggy. Avoid them. Perhaps cheesy fries is a better variant. The garlic knots are solid. The cheese steak was decent enough. Today wasn't especially busy. There was me, one other table, and a steady flow of to-go orders. But I watched the cook drop the pizza peel onto the tile floor. It's a meta peel. Clang! Even the cashier was startled. He picked it up and put it on top of the ovens as normal. A few minutes later he used the same peel to pull out my food out of the oven. Unwashed. I'm a hearty guy. Went to Sal's Pizza tonight for the first time. I was greeted when I walked in and seated immediately. Waitress was very friendly got my order correct and the Pizza was very delicious. Waitress came back several times to make sure I didn't need anything. When I asked for more soda she jumped on it and my glass was filled quickly. Probably the shittiest pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Two medium pizzas for 37 bones. I'd have rather spent 10 and went to Little Caesar's. Asked for my pies to be a bit well done and they came out limpy and doughy as fuck. Had to come home and stick them in my own oven for about 5-10 more minutes. I have been ordering pizza to-go from Sal's, off and on for years. I always place the same order: 18" deluxe, extra cheese, light sauce, and well done. It's a $25 pizza. Occasionally I have received my order and it wasn't quite well done enough, or there was a little more sauce than I cared for, but I never complained about it. Today, I received my pizza with the least amount of "extra cheese" I have ever seen. Aside of the fact that the order taker sent the ticket in wrong; light cheese, extra sauce, which she told me about, and said she verbally corrected the order, I did not receive a pizza that had anywhere near the amount of cheese that was usually on it. I had waited for my husband to come home, to eat with him. I called to complain when I realized that the pizza didn't have extra cheese. I explained it to the first person, who put me on the phone with Becky; apparently the manager. She claimed she made the pizza herself, and definitely put extra cheese on there. She said that my definition of "extra cheese" must be different than their policy. I explained that this pizza looked nothing like my past orders; all of which had extra cheese, and that you could see the sauce through this one. Her solution to my problem, was to have me request to speak with her the next time I ordered, so she could use my definition of "extra cheese" to make it. I assured her that her definition must be different than everyone else that's ever made my pizza, and asked what she planned to do to make it right. Becky: "What do you want?" Me: "I want you to remake my pizza. I did not receive what I ordered." More of her arguing about how much cheese she claims she put on there. I freely admit that, at that point, nearly 30 years in the retail, restaurant, and hospitality business got the better of me. I schooled her on Customer Service Etiquette when it came to replacing incorrect orders. Her response was to say that people lie, so the Customer being Always Right isn't their policy. (Essentially, she was refusing to remake my order without directly saying so.) I told her I will never purchase another item from them, and hung up. Becky was rude, unprofessional, and has zero Customer Service skills. You can serve the best food on earth, but if you have a manager like her, she's going to eventually kill your business. read more

Edit: the driver came back to pick up the food super apologetic and "took care of it" not sure if she paid or what not, but we were able to keep the food to reheat in the oven. Terrible. Ordered a 14" pizza, 2 meals, and knots. Told it'd be 45-60 minutes. Called around the hour mark and was told it was out for delivery. Another 25 minutes later the food arrives. Driver told me to call the store if there were any issues as the food was bagged wrong and she had to go back to the store to re-bag it. Well everything was cold so when I called the store for a refund the manager said they'll send the driver back to pick the food up. Soooo an hour and a half later we have nothing to eat, what's even worse is I literally just had a baby 4 days ago - hence why we ordered food in the first place. read more

This review is solely based off of pizza alone! With my brother in law being a pizza connoisseur, I've tasted many different variations of pizza. He makes everything from scratch, which means I've gotten into the habit of tasting the smallest of flavors. Salvator's pizza is delicious! The cheese to sauce ratio is on point, the crust is consistant and it's got great flaviry; and that's why I give this place 5 stars! This little place used to serve such good Italian food. I do not know what happened, but the food now is horrible. I ordered alfredo that was as thin as soup with no taste at all. My husband had manicotti and the sauce was acidity tasting. Its really sad whoever owns the place now let it go. I know I will never go back, save your money and get a can of spaghettios. read more

I've always had great experiences with the food I've ordered from Sal's. I generally order pizza and wings for delivery or pickup and it's always delicious, hot, and just as ordered. Their pepperoni and chicken pizza is a personal favorite of mine. For wings, their Parmesan garlic, teriyaki, and buffalo (mild or hot) are great! I have ordered barbecue wings but they were a little too saucy for me. The biggest downside to Sal's is that the restaurant itself is older and the interior definitely has a dated feel to it. I usually just pass through when picking up my order and have noticed that it's generally not busy on the inside even though the kitchen is very active. read more

Excellent selection and prices. My wife and I enjoyed pasta dishes with more than enough to eat, we took him boxes for leftovers. Food is prepared on-site and not prepared somewhere else and reheated. Definitely a weekly choice for us. read more

I came into town for business and staying at the Hilton Garden. They recommend Sal's Pizzeria I would definitely go back, as the food was very good and the service was excellent. The server India was very sweet, and made sure I had everything I needed. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone but you need to ask for India for your server. read more

I have been ordering pizza from Sal's on main a few times and I am unhappy with the consistency of the crust/pizza. Apparently they do not have the same person making the pizza. 2 out of 3 times the crust and pizza are great, but twice now I have receive a pizza where the crust was over handled and did not rise properly. Again on Friday May 31, 2019 5:30 pm. I received a pizza that did not even measure 18", the crust looked miserable and was undercooked and totally horrible. They should never have left it go out the door at $20.80. I think I will find a new pizza place. read more

It's a shame that the service was so horrible because the stuffed pizza was amazing. We walked in and no one acknowledged us, even the older blonde lady standing right at the front. She reeked of weed. She walked back to the pick up station and we followed her. She finally noticed us and called to another girl to get our order and check us out. The whole time we were waiting for our order, the staff was talking and being loud. The server that ignored us kept apologizing to the lady at the next table because she "had a million things to do", and at one point we heard her say she "got stuck with customers". We got our food and went to ask for sauces at the pick up station and all of the staff kept talking as they made eye contact with us. I really want to give Salvatore's Pizzeria (Sal's) 4 & 1/2 Stars , but that is not an option unfortunately so we went to 4 because we consider 5 Stars to be a perfect score. The reason Sal's scores so high with us is because of the staff! They are worth 1 & 1/2 Stars all on their own!! (4 & 1/2 on a scale of 1 - 10 Stars) They really do make a difference!! For my birthday my other half bought a pizza instead of a cake/cupcakes because I don't care for them, but love pizza! My favorite pizza is one they don't make in a 24" Pizza, but they agreed to for my birthday. How fantastic is that?! They definitely charged him for it, but who cares? Ya can't take it with you, & birthdays only happen once a year so ... why not?! I do wish they would cut the 24" so you could fold the slices, but you can't have everything. Sal's is very much a New York style pizza, and the 24" is as close as your going to get for at least 3 counties! I am fortunate enough that the husband works in Suffolk, so we can get a pretty regular supply as needed to fill our pizza requirements, and yes - in this family it is a requirement. My entire immediate family worked in Pizza for over a decade for a couple different places, so we know Pizza, & Sal's is the Family's Favorite for New York style. They actually used to have a spicier sauce & a better sausage that you could actually see the fennel back in the 90's when we first discovered them in Virginia Beach, & we miss that very much. Chances are they probably got complaints (you would be surprised how many people actually prefer bland tasteless food), having been on the complaint receiving end of some nasty, & purposely demeaning phone calls from plenty of folks who really need to go back to the 6th grade and learn how to actually speak English- I totally understand the change. Just wish it was an option. Also because I have worked in the Pizza business with a goal of 30% or below food costs I can tell you that they are over charging for the toppings. Speaking of which I would also prefer that they used a little more top cheese (they tend to put all their cheese under the toppings), so the toppings wouldn't roll around and keep trying to fall off. I mean I get it they are trying to replicate the Mew York by the slice pizza. For those of you who have not yet had the pleasure: In New York Generally - when you pop into a pizzeria for a slice -there's a pre-made pepperoni pizza, and other favorite topping pizzas being kept warm. When you step up and order say a pepperoni and sausage slice they just add sausage, and put your slice in long enough to heat the pre-made slice, & sausage up before putting it on tinfoil and handing it to you. Hence the rolling around of toppings cause there's no melted cheese on top to hold them in place. Which is fine because you are meant to fold them in half lengthwise & eat them. However Sal's 24" slices while they have the length they do not have the width, & would thereby benefit with the use of some top cheese ; ) All that aside I Love Sal's as does The Family! They have permanent customers in us! I am not really qualified to review the other food they serve as we make all that at home, but it looks right, & it smells right. A lot better than anything we have out here in the Franklin/Sedley area. Sorry it's true. That very popular place in Franklin may have at one time been really good Italian, but the food tastes, & is served as if all the passion left the building a long time ago, & their staff unlike Sal's has the Us vs Them attitude with the customers. In contrast the Sal's crew have been awesome to us every time we go in there! We even had them mix up part of our order with another customers much to our disappointment when we got home 40+miles(I think) away, BUT they were really nice about it, and offered us a replacement the next time we come in. Which we were happy with- because it may not have been our 2nd Pizza - it was still a great Pizza - after all it is hard to hate on a free pizza!! Lol!! Oh & because it seems to be a theme any time you by restaurant/fast food in Suffolk and Franklin - Sal's does not ... shall we say "mess up your stomach"?! Yes, it's true!!! Any who - this review has gotten SUPER long, so I think you have a pretty clear understanding of our experience with Sal's over the last 22 years, & experience with the local Sal's in Suffolk, VA.! I've visited here a couple times in the past and the food is actually pretty good. Just walked out though after standing for like 10 minutes waiting to be serviced...or even acknowledged. There were absolutely no other customers in the restaurant so I'm not sure what their problem was tonight. There were several employees there and they were just talking amongst themselves the whole time and doing other things. One even asked what time it was, walked over to us made eye contact, checked the time at the register and walked away. So, we did the same. read more

We ordered a medium pizza for takeout - half pepperoni & pineapple, and half pepperoni & olive. When we got home and started to eat it, the crust was so thin and not even completely cooked. We ate a couple of pieces and threw the rest away because it was inedible. We did not have time to return it and did not want to bother making a scene. My past experience with Salvaltore's was good, but this time was really bad. I feel that we should have been refunded our money, but as I said, we did not bother to pursue that. If the management would like to offer us a "retry" or refund our money, we would definitely take them up on that offer, writing up our experience as a fluke. My experience tonight was horrible when I walked in to pay for my food the young lady said my food should be up shortly. So as I wait, I watched her literally have an attitude on her face with every person that called to place an order. She even once said "okay it'll be ready 15-20 mins" then a worker in back yelled "no, 30 mins", she then said "I told them that so they can hurry up and get here so we can close." Another instance was when she literally stuck her naked finger in someone's pizza that was in the oven to poke down the bubbles in the crust! Mind you she was just handling the register and the phone. Someone else came in to place an order and the young man that took his order demeanor changed when the guy placed his order, you could see the annoyance on his face. My point of this review is that if I'm spending my money at your facility you need to exhibit the best customer service you can possibly perform. All these things occurred between 9:10pm-9:30pm, they closed at 10pm. If your doors are open you take orders until closed! I ended up getting a refund on my order because I wasn't satisfied with the experience and the manager said, "they had a hectic day today but I'm sorry about that," that's unacceptable! read more
