Service and prices. My favorite wine is $2 cheaper here than it is at CT Beverage Mart, and the service is better than any other store in the area. The owners and employees are so helpful. Unlike other stores where you may wander around aimlessly with no one to help you (yes, CBM, I'm talking to you), at The Grog Shop they're quick to lend a helping hand. They have a relatively big selection and will give discount pricing on cases of wine. If you want something but don't see it, just ask - they may have it in the back or may be able to order for you.

Don't go in there expecting this, but when he realized I was interested in a certain type of liquor, he cut me an exceptionally good deal on an extra bottle he had. Unfortunately, location is a little ways off the main drag so convenience (on bike at least) is somewhat compromised. (you bike past a store called the Wine Cellar on the way there from main st.) American whiskey selection a little skimpy compared to the exuberantly comprehensive selection of Scotch. Overall, well worth a visit.

The prices are very reasonable and definitely cheaper or comparable to what I'd pay in NY (where I was visiting from). To top it off the staff are so friendly and helpful. They didn't carry a sweet Shiraz (Jam Jar) that my friend wanted and the cashier searched and found another store nearby that sold it. Talk about going above and beyond!

I have been a long time customer (mostly via delivery). This…read moreweek I did not receive my entire delivery. When I received my order I immediately checked it and realized a $20 item was missing. By that time the driver had pulled away. Right away, I called Forest City to explain, and I asked if they could contact the driver? The woman on the other end was so defensive and rude. She yelled over me "we've delivered to you before, we know your order!". I was mindful about never blaming them, because I honestly felt the driver just accidentally left part of my order in the car. I calmly told her that I know it must be the drivers error. Can we contact him? I also said "I just want to receive what I paid for". Her response was to hang up on me!!!!! A minute later she called me back and yelled at me that the reason she hung up was because I asked "too many questions" (Um... I only asked if she could contact the driver??) and told me she had to hang up because she had "real" customers in front of her and "didn't have time to talk to me". She hardly let me get a word in. I stayed calm and quiet and let her rant about how "they have cameras" blah blah blah. In the end I told her I would just never shop there again. That seemed to offend her, so I politely ended the call and said "good night" A $20 error us not worth my energy, but her horrible customer service lost her a long term customer. Good thing their competition will happily accept me as a customer. I'm really disappointed by the horrible service I received.

I did not take too much time to note what the other bottles were but I am sure some were fine. However, the store does not give the "fine wine shop" vibe so much as the "this used to be a dollar store" vibe. Some people commented on the curb parking issue and yes I can understand that. The curb is a no parking zone and I did see someone there who was parked by the curb. Back to the shop: the beer selection was okay with a few good ones but it is better for picking up a case of bud light than a fancy craft brew. The liquor selection was pretty good. Overall, lots of options but nothing too special. The prices didn't stand out as especially good or bad. All said, fine to fill basic needs but nothing special.

CT Beverage Mart is a solid liquor store with some good things and some mediocre things. Firstly,…read morethe beer selection is quite good with the largest selection of lambics I have seen. There are lots of 24 and 30 can packs as well as a good selection of local and foreign craft beers. The wine selection is extensive. Read that carefully because I said extensive, not good. They have entire aisle categories just for specific vineyards that make those gallon jugs of wine. However, the upside is, you can find lots of options for wine that ranges mostly from $9 - $17. Not a bad place to stop for a party bottle. The liquor selection is strange with some things like gin having an usually large number of specialty options and other things like tequila having a smaller than normal selection. You will be able to find all your big brands of course. Basically, liquor store with inconsistent levels of choice and quality. Fine selection. Good for your standards. Nothing too special.
