Gabi Coyazo HOOKED ME UP with a fresh bob and perfectly matched color, after 3.5 years of unfortunately cutting -- and coloring it -- myself. She listened to me intently including my wish for my hair to look more modern and less Lord Farquaad, look at the pics I had saved and then just went to town with it. It's always difficult when you are looking to make a change from a salon you have been going to for a while. I was going to a salon downtown... Won't mention any names but going there for a couple of years and paying a fortune which honestly I'm not concerned with because hey...it's attached to my face! I'm in my mid 50s so I cut , Icolor... Occasionally I do a Brazilian blowout... And I like to experiment with lots of different things. Anyway... I digress. While paying a lot of money for my fancy salon, I often booked out 4 to 6 months so I could ensure that I would get a Saturday slot and not have to run into a situation where I couldn't keep up with my coloring. In August my stylist got sick and the salon wanted to put me with a stylist I had never used before which wouldn't of been so bad but this was the fourth time within nine appointments that my stylist pushed me to someone else. This time I decided I would take my business to a different salon. That's how I ended up at Salon Savvy and that's how I ended up with Rebecca. They say timing is everything and they are right. The salon is 13 minutes from my house as opposed to a 30 minute drive... Not as fancy but I love the casual vibe and perfectly comfortable. The location is right off the highway and everybody is so pleasant. A nice clientele from the Johnson County area. From the moment that Rebecca started working with my hair she asked me all kinds of questions about what kind of color I had been using, how long I had been coloring my hair, the looks I like to have in my hair, etc. etc. she asks tons of questions. The result is you walk out of the salon with the hair that you want. In two cuts I have changed my length twice and gone dramatically shorter. I love my color and I love my cut... In fact I have not loved my hair this much in years. It's healthy and everyone that has seen my new look has said how much younger and thinner I look. I have been working on taking off weight so the overall transformation I've made plus Rebecca's skills make for a winning combo. The bonus is that her color and cut prices are so much more reasonable. Alison was so rude! We made an appointment for a man's haircut. We were 8 minutes late and Alison, with her rude attitude! Said she couldn't wash it, which was fine and began giving us a lecture about how our appointment was at 1130 and it was "almost" 1145. We were just in town visiting and got lost. We ended up walking out and going somewhere else. She was wasting time talking about us being a few minutes late for a hair cut that took all of 20 minutes somewhere else. I understand the time allotment for a cut, but her attitude was so unacceptable. 20 minutes was all it took somewhere else read more

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place. I was raised by a hair stylist so I am extremely picky/snooty when it comes to who does my hair. But Shanon ALWAYS does what I want. She knows what I like and what looks good on me, and I trust her enough to say "make it look good and healthy" and she does amazing. Even when waxing my eyebrows, she just knows what to do. I have never trusted a stylist so much. Friendly staff, it is always clean in there, good music. I did it! After 40 years with long hair I decided I wanted it short. My problem then was Where to go?. I'd recently moved to Kansas and didn't want to just randomly choose a salon. So I turned to Yelp and saw all the great reviews for Salon Savvy. I called and made an appointment with Nancy. Wow, am I glad I did! Nancy was so friendly and fun. She looked at the short hair picture I'd brought and understood exactly what I wanted. Since I'd never had short hair I expected to be full of apprehension but Nancy put me at ease and assured me I'd chosen a cut that would be flattering to me. I had moved so I needed to find a new salon and stylist. My first appointment with Nancy the owner was fine. But she is extremely busy and impossible to book with unless you book the day you are there for the next time. I do not do this. I tried another stylist who did not impress me so I tried a third. She is competent but not friendly. I never felt at ease there. It is the start of April 2018 and I have not had my hair done since November of 2017. I can't bring myself to go back and am not sure where to turn to now. read more

It is very clean and the employees are upbeat and positive. Ashley did an amazing job on my hair!!! Which can be hard to do because it is fine and naturally curly. Love, love, love! I've been going to see Nancy for over a year now for my hair and I love her. I have thick hair, and It's hard to find someone who can cut it properly. Nancy does a fantastic job. She also colors/highlights, and does great. I always come with suggestions of what I might want done- and she's very honest at saying if something will work for my skin tone, if she thinks we should tweak the color or style a bit, or just giving general suggestions. All the girls in the salon are great, it's an adorable salon. I would recommend to everyone! read more

Not a great experience considering everyone else's reviews. I had Allison, and I asked her to cut my hair to the middle of my neck (just below my jawline). She did that while it was wet, and told me it would remain as such when it dried. While this is patently not true and all hair shortens a little when dried, I didn't say anything. At the end of it, I was given a very short bob that ends just below my ears. This is a full (at least) three inches shorter than I asked. I do understand that mistakes happen, but Allison wasn't too cordial about the whole affair. During the visit she would talk to me, but wasn't very smiley or receptive to jokes or the conversation. She rarely smiled at all, even when I gave her $36 for a haircut I didn't like. Overall, I'm disatisfied, not angry. Hair does grow, so I know that this will grow to the length I wanted within a month or two. However, even after I told Allison a couple of times that I don't often use hairdressers because previous ones haven't listen to me- just to have her do the same- is very frustrating. I won't be using this hair dresser again for the abovementioned reasons. read more

I have never had a better experience at a salon before. Prior to today's visit, only four people had done anything to my hair (including cutting or trimming): my grandma, my mom's former hairstylist (who I went to from 3rd grade until last year), the lady who worked next to her, and someone my best friend and her mom recommended. I have never had someone ask so many questions to make sure I was getting what I want. I have never had someone look 5+ times at the picture I brought in for reference. I have never had someone explain to me what they are doing to my hair and WHY. I have never had someone pay 100% attention to me while working on my hair. This salon treats you like a valued customer. They want you to have the best experience and be the happiest you can be with your hair. 100% coming back. This is my new salon. Nancy made my hair look the best it ever has. She didn't rush through my time with her and she genuinely CARES about what she does. While she has tons of experience, she realizes that it's an industry that is constantly changing and loves to learn to keep up with the current information. I can't say enough good things about my experience today. I am not one to post reviews, but they deserve it. You get what you pay for here. There is no question. Oh, and you can tell there is a family feel between the stylists. They are so caring of each other and treat each other so well, which I don't always see at salons. After explaining very carefully about my concerns for a too-short haircut due to scalp psoriasis, as well making it very clear of my strong dislike for a bouffant in the back of my hair, and my desire to keep my hair long enough for my curls to keep their shape, the hairdresser cut all my hair very, very short with nearly bald patches--and did EXACTLY what I requested her NOT to do. When she said she was finished and showed me the back, she said, "Oh, well, a bouffant couldn't be helped because of your head." I couldn't believe it and was still trying to process all of what had happened and how I was going to fix it. Once I got home I saw the full damage and emailed several times over the next few days to get help with it and request a refund. I had been growing my hair for 2years to get a good haircut that I wanted, and she not only didn't listen at all, but cut it several inches shorter than requested! They never responded until I messaged them, and their response was that my emails probably went to spam. I have disabilities that make it hard to talk on the phone, and they wouldn't check to see about the emails or apologize or try to make things right. I was shocked at their horrible customer service and lack of listening to their clients! I was prepared to make them my new salon home, but there is NO WAY I will ever return! read more

Moved to the area a year ago and found this great salon after some searching. Nancy does a great job cutting my thick hair which has lots of curl which is not easy! Very pleased with the results. I'm newer to town so looking for a hairdresser to take the place of mine from back home, that I had been going to for over 8 years. I've tried a few of the higher end salons on here, and hadn't found a place where I just seemed to fit. I'm from a small town so when you go to a hairdresser you want someone that's going to know you and remember who you are. Some of the other salons I just felt like I would be a name on a card they would pull out when my spot was up. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they were good at what they do but I need that comfort factor. So first off I'm terrible at making hair appt., I travel a lot for work and only usually home on weekends and I forget during the week to usually call, so I wasn't really expecting to find a place that would get me in on a same day Sat, but the team at Salon Savvy found me a spot. When I arrived at the salon I was greeted and taken back immediately by Dena. The shop is a small salon with 5 workstations and reminded me of what I would have walked into back home. She sat me down and we started talking about my hair, we went over what I wanted, I showed her pics of what I wanted and of what I had done in the past. Since it was the first time I wanted to have her get a sense of my personality. She wanted to do a 2 step process of highlights, and all over hair color...which I was changing my base color so understood all of that would need to be done. She offered me a glass of flavored water which I accepted and then she was off to mix my color. Dena talked to me the whole time, we asked questions and got to know each other better. The whole experience took 2 hours which is normal for cut and color on my hair. I'm so excited I found this place, it's just another step for me making Kansas City my home! ....Dena is new to area and looking for more clientele so make sure and ask for her! read more
