Called out of the blue to see if I could come in and get my hair done the same day, and it was possible! The owner Agnes transformed my hair effortlessly and efficiently. It was all-in-all a great welcoming experience as well, which is difficult to come by at some establishments. I felt comfortable and welcomed and I appreciate the energy there. I have pretty thick and poofy hair, and it seemed to be not a problem for her, if your hair is the same I would recommend trying Salon Rules for a new look. I started off with brown hair coming in, and I am getting married in December so I want to start getting more blonde, but everywhere I called was fully booked for weeks, which I am too impatient for lol. If I could give more stars, I would. Agnes is amazing and incredibly talented. After years of using box colors on my hair, it was a mess. My hair is dark brown but I had it at nearly black, but not intentionally. It was dull, boring and lacking any dimension. Agnes worked her magic and I love the results! She foiled it to give me beautiful highlights. On a previous appointment she gave me a perfect haircut. On top of being an amazing cosmetologist, she is a super nice person. What more could you ask for? I'm new to the area and discovered her by reading Yelp reviews. I thought I should add a review to help others find this gem. After decades of having my hair done at the big name salon at the mall, I was ready for a change. I'm pleased to report that Agnes at Salon Rules gave me the best hair cut and foil highlights that I've had in years! It is so nice to find a salon so close to home and to have color and cut by the same professional. Agnes is friendly, talented, and a good listener. She offered great suggestions to meet my hair care needs. While I was immediately pleased with my cut, color and style, I waited a few days to post a review. My hair still looked great on the third day and after washing and styling myself. Prices are comparable to the big name mall salon, but I saw better results in less time. Jewel is absolutely fantastic! She is so adorable and she is the sweetest. I showed her a picture of the balayage I wanted and she did exactly what I showed her :) I never really do anything to my hair, so when I got my balayage the first time, I loved it, but I wanted it a little lighter for more of a dramatic change. Jewel was so helpful and I went back in again about a week later and she made my hair a little lighter and I am so in love with it now! I went to Salon Rules for the first time a few weeks ago. I had a really great experience. The Salon itself is quite intimate, very clean, and polished looking. All of the stylists were extremely friendly, and I felt comfortable and taken care of the moment I sat down. I went to see Leah, who is new to Salon Rules though she has been my stylist for a couple of years. She was originally recommended to me by a coworker, and we both loved her work so much that we've convinced half of our department to go see her. Now I've followed her to Salon Rules from her previous salon because I doubt I could trust anyone else with my thick, frizzy, temperamental hair. I have always been greatly impressed with Leah's skilled coloring technique, especially her use of balayage and ombre. She has also been able to save my locks numerous times from botched at-home dye jobs, for which I am eternally grateful. I appreciate how she always works with me to find a trendy style that is right for face shape and hair type. read more

Jewel is my favorite hair stylist I've ever had! She is extremely friendly, knows my hair, and knows what kind of style I prefer. She is also very adaptable to what I want. This past time I asked to change things up, as I had been realizing that my hair was getting very dry/broken/unhealthy due to the copious amounts of bleaching/shampooing/hair drying I had been exposing it to. Jewel used color in my hair instead of bleach, gave me a deep conditioning treatment, and cut off all the dead parts of my hair, and I walked out with noticeably healthier hair. It's been several weeks since my last haircut and I am still very happy with how much healthier my hair looks and feels. I found Agnes while reading reviews here on Yelp. I gave her a call and we talked a bit about my hair. I said I didn't live too far away and that was pretty neat. She had time open that day (a fortuitous coincidence!) and even called to let me know she was finished early if I wanted to come sooner! She fixed all the choppy parts and made it look so wonderful. I had requested an edgy modern haircut at a big name salon in Seattle but I was given the same haircut I was always given instead. Bored with the same haircut, two weeks later I looked for a new hairstylist. Some people have the shape of face to look good with any haircut, I don't have that luxury so I was willing to pay for someone who took care of how they cut each layer. I just got my hair finished at Rules and it.....rules. I got it colored originally at zero zero salon in Capitol Hill and it was a mess. Agnes did such a wonderful job cutting and styling my hair. I came in a few weeks before my wedding and got a terrific haircut. She also helped me with some styling tips to produce exactly the look I wanted. I don't think my hair has ever looked better. I actually got married in Sequim, WA and used a different stylist to try to save on travel expenses -- biggest mistake of my wedding. Agnes had made things look simple and easy, using very little product. For some reason the Sequim stylist wasn't able to pull off anything even close. One of the most frustrating things was that Agnes had known how to pin my hair back in a half-up, half-down style that was very soft and natural. The other stylist just kept trying and trying to do this, but she didn't know how to hide the pins without making the curls looked much tighter and "done." My hair is the one thing that disappoints me about my wedding photos, it would have been worth it to pay Agnes extra to come out to Sequim (assuming she had been willing to travel -- I never asked her). read more

Vanessa is a talented colorist! I came in after needing a color correction after getting all over color that no stylist seemed to be able to match as it grew out. Every time I went to other salons to get my roots done I ended up with a new band of different color on my roots or darker all over color than I arrived with. Finally, since I couldn't find the right colorist to keep me looking natural, I was ready to give up on being a redhead :( So I started asking women with great natural looking hair color if their color was natural and who their stylist was. Finally someone recommended Vanessa and raved about how she can stretch out going to the salon to get her roots done to as long as three months because her multi color highlights and lowlights looked so natural as they grew out. I was able to get in for an appointment within four days. She took the time to give me a thorough consultation and walked me through what she was going to do and explained her suggestions. She took my hair from orange high maintenance mess to natural looking highlights/lowlights beautiful strawberry blonde that doesn't need constant touchups. She did this by using up to five colors all expertly applied and leaving out tiny bits of my already colored hair to look as natural as possible. And it looks great. I followed my stylist Leah to Salon Rules, and as usual, I am so glad I did! She came from a salon in Ballard, and the new location is closer to home and has free parking.
