I got my hair dyed here on sept 9th 2023- I never leave reviews, but after going through so much…read moretrouble just to fix my hair these past few years I thought I'd inform others... Got my haircut sept 2nd which was great-- can't remember if it was Nicolette or Natalie but the stylist was super transparent with me which I loved. The hair color is a different story. I was going from brunette to a full head of blonde highlights, my colorist was Terry, and she destroyed my hair completely. This was my first time dying my hair, she told me she used 4 different types of bleach in my head so I didn't know (at the time) that this was BAD. She put me under the hood dryer and left, my nose and eyes were burning so badly from the bleach I could barely breathe, I had to find a different stylist just to ask if I can be done with that thing. As we were looking at my color in the mirror, I tried to ask her nicely why the highlights look "choppy" on the top of my head-- I was NOT happy with them. She basically tried to gaslight me and said that it's supposed to look that way because I wanted highlights?? The highlights were uneven on both sides of my head, and my hair was YELLOW. To top it off, she got bleach stains on my sweatshirt, even though I had a cover on. How do you even manage to do that? Terry was nice/welcoming from the beginning, and I still tipped her 20% because this was my first time and I was clueless. But I NEVER went back after that experience. Could've gotten some sort of reimbursement for my sweatshirt at least because that was plain messed up. If you have darker hair and want to go lighter or blonde, please DO NOT go to Terry.

I have naturally very dark hair and have dyed it blue-black over the years. Two weeks ago I…read moreimpulsively decided I wanted a change for the spring time, to go from black to cherry red, and chose to go to Salon Norman Dee as I had found this salon years ago and never had any issues. Due to my previous hair dyes, I was informed it would take multiple sessions but at the very least I would leave with a cohesive even color, unfortunately, that was not the case. I sat at this salon for 5hrs...five hours...my entire head was bleached and this was the result I was left with. Due to my own personal time constraint I was unable to be fit in for a cut/blow dry, nonetheless, I sat at the salon for 5hrs to be left with horrible, dry, damaged, and unevenly colored hair, all at the cost of $300. I contacted the owner, Christy, who had requested for me to return, but considering the circumstances I was hesitant and rightfully so. I chose to go to a different salon to have my hair corrected, and they were heaven sent. In the same 5hrs Salon Norman Dee took to destroy my hair, this other salon not only properly bleached it, but dyed it, applied a hydration treatment, and gave me a cut/blow dry...all within 5hrs. I have waited for a response from Christy for 3 days now, don't expect any sort of compensation/reimbursement even if you paid for a service that was not provided. (the beautiful cherry red blowout pictured is NOT from this salon, save your money and go elsewhere)

Kinaya is hands down the most knowledgeable, friendly, giving stylist I have ever been to…read more So, to back up a bit -- I had gone to another stylist a few weeks ago who dyed my hair a color I didn't ask for. I asked for a vibrant purple and she gave me a dark marroon. I was pretty unhappy about it so I searched online for another salon and found Textures and made my appointment. It turns out the previous stylist used a permanent dye on my hair so the marroon/red was incredibly difficult to lift from my hair. An appointment schedueld for an hour and fifteen minutes turned into a four hour appointment because Kinaya was determined to dye my 4c hair the color I wanted without damaging it. She put in blue dye at first but the color didn't take and was barely visible. She then put in a red/fuschia/orchard mixture and it finally worked. But it was 4 hours by the time everything was said and done! She most definitely did not have to spend all of that effort and sent me away unhappy with the dark blue/black barely there color but she wasn't going to give up until I had a color that pops and she absolutely ended up giving me an amazing color. Not only that, she was very informative throughout the appointment, suggesting products, explaining how to care for my dyed hair, dispelling current hair myths and more. I can't recommend Kinaya highly enough! I am so glad I have a new stylist who is going to let me rock fashionable colors, can't wait to come back!

Biggest hair mistake of my life…read more I was drawn by the stellar reviews, acceptance of walk-ins, and inexpensive prices. For nearly 7 years I've cared for my hair myself and watched it grow to its thickest, longest, healthiest point ever. All my years of work were undone with a simple blowout. After the blowout my hair felt straight and luxurious. After I washed my hair it started falling out by the fistfull. I lost enough hair to pile on 2 dinner plates and now my hair is shoulder length and so much thinner. I wish these women had the professional ethics to let me know they couldn't safely straighten my hair. 6 months later I'm still suffering.

I'm not from the area and ended up driving about 45 mins to arrive, yet do not regret it one bit!…read more When I first walked in, my first impression of the place was that they mean business. Everyone was working diligently and paying close attention to their client's hair. The place was fogging up from all the smoke from the hair equipment so they had the back door opened. I didn't know what the routine was since it was my first time at the location. They looked at me and smiled and one lady asked me what I was getting done so I told her a wash and set and that my hair was natural. Being African American with kinky hair after it's washed can be an issue at Dominican hair salons; they're always offering a perm. Not this one. She said no prob, write my name and I can take a seat. I noticed some women getting their weaves washed and styled, as if it were their own and it looked good. That's def something to consider if you wish to get your weave washed. They have a little waiting area up front with magazines and the atmosphere is quite relaxed. They called me over in about 15 minutes for my wash, which is pretty good timing, especially on a Saturday. After my wash, I waited about 7 minutes for the next lady to roller set my hair. I think I was scheduled to be under the dryer for 45 mins to an hour. After about 37 minutes, I needed to put money in the meter. By the time I came back, someone else was placed at my dryer. I asked what's next, they asked me to sit in chair # 3. I was happy because that dryer was HOT lol ...and right away, a blonde Dominican lady came to blow dry and style my hair. She was awesome. We had great conversation, she put me at ease. I could speak a bit of Spanish so I'm not sure how much of a language barrier could've existed if I didn't (another lady speaks pretty good English so either way, they'll understand you). It was a great experience! I didn't feel her burning my scalp with the blow dryer. She was pretty quick. I asked her to focus on my roots since my ends are getting so thin, she listened. She gave me a nice trim. She listened when I asked her not to cut too much (I had to let her know that she could cut a little more, even... which is nice since to some, trim means chop). She curled it nicely and recommended I get a bonnet to sleep at night and run my fingers through the curls in the morning. She made me feel fabulous in her chair and I left the salon feeling like I was on top of the world :) My hair is a bit passed my shoulder when straightened. I did not get the deep conditioner, so I cannot comment on it. My wash and set, plus curling the ends with a flat iron and trim cost me $37. The other place I was considering going that morning was charging $57 and up, for a press and curl ...so this was a pretty good deal. One other thing, some of the clientele that walked in seemed a bit iffy but then again, I am not familiar with the area and the people in the neighborhood. Nonetheless, no one bothered anyone so it was fine to me. I would def recommend this place to others and will consider driving that 45 minutes again if I need to.
