I was very specific about what I wanted..... 1/2 inch off the top and 1/2 inch off the "corners", where it was looking too heavy on the bottom. The stylist/owner, sent me to have my hair washed before I could even explain what I wanted... a very bad sign. She started by cutting 2 inches off the top and crown. ( I should have just got up and walked away when I saw this, but I was frozen in shock)). I also was specific in saying that I did not want bangs. She repeated "I know that you don't want bangs" as she proceeded to cut my bang area. Then she added "this way we can say that it was cut". Say to who?!?! Bizarre. What I ended up with was a mullet, with mushroom bangs that extended all the way to the back, with a cone of short pieces at the crown, disconnected from anything else, emphasizing my balding spot. When she realized that I was unhappy, she first tried to convince me that it was nice and then she said that it was my fault for asking her to not cut more than 1/2 inch, which made no sense, as she had actually already cut 2 inches off the top. Had she just stuck with the 1/2 inch request, any mistakes would have grown out in no time. (Ironically, I had seen her for a consultation 2 months earlier, and she asked me to let my hair grow for another 2 months before cutting it as it was too short in certain areas... she ended up cutting off those 2 months of growth, and then some, including the areas that she said needed to grow) She tried to fix the back but then decided to continue cutting the sides and top again.... it just got shorter and shorter, uglier and uglier, and she never did cut the pieces that needed to be cut. Furthermore, one side of the top and sides was visibly longer and a different shape than the other and the front was uneven, something that she would have noticed had she bothered to check before rushing me out of the chair. And the heavy pieces that I had asked her to cut in the first place were still there, but looked even worse because the rest of the cut was so short. The blowdry was very done and matronly. Overall, the cut and blowdry took at most only about 1/2 hour...she seemed very uninterested in what I wanted or what she was doing... just interested in moving people in and out of the chair. Maybe she shouldn't be working 11 hours per day. I don't care how many awards she has won if she can't be bothered with an "ordinary" paying client. The receptionist was nice but otherwise a very unpleasant, disturbing, experience. This will take 5 months to grow out. If there is a lesson here, it is to stay away from "artists" , to only see stylists who will do a consultation before they wash your hair and to speak up immediately or leave as soon as you see that something is wrong. read more

I read the comment above and I am quite surprised! Val Meades has been my stylist since 2006, and I would never let anyone else touch my hair. I have had long hair, medium hair, pregnant hair, and now I'm sporting a pixie. She made me dark brown, she made me a redhead, she did highlights, or just toner, she also helped me go back to natural... and dyed it again! Sometimes I have been super specific about what I wanted, and Val did just that, and at other times I just walked in and told her "have fun!". Every single time I left the salon a little insecure about what she had done, I would literally call her a complete genius in front of my mirror a couple of days later. Because she KNOWS what she is doing. She does not talk much while you're on the chair because she can't chit-chat and do a precise, intelligent cut at the same time. Honestly, I'm very self-conscious about my hair and I prefer a stylist who does not babble about her personal life to a stylist who wants to socialize and does not really pay attention to what she is doing. Also, Val has opinions about what will suit your face shape and complexion. And that's exactly why I want to be with a stylist like her. If I show up with a picture and tell her I like it, she will actually be able to tell me plain and simple if she thinks it won't suit me. If I wanted a stylist who just does as she's told, I would probably end up with bad coloring, or a bad cut. And believe me, I've been with those before 2006. What you described about her attitude is indeed the way she is, and that's why I love her so much. And for the last 6 years, I've seen where her visions take me and how much she gets me, my tastes, my complexion and the shape of my face. I had to go to another stylist because she was away when I got my pixie. The stylist did exactly what she saw on the picture. Looked awesome! Then I saw Val for the maintenance. Well guess what: Val gave me the same cut based on the exact same picture, and she even consulted the other stylist's index card because I had requested the same color (which had not been chosen by Val!)... but the way she did the cut, wow! My hair grew back in such a different way that it looked nicer way longer... and saved me money, because I could wait longer between haircuts. Val take cares of her clients and makes sure every little detail is there to make sure they get a comfy, luxurious experience when they visit the salon. I HIGHLY recommend her and her team, and I will keep visiting her salon each time I need my hair cut or styled. KUDOS to you guys! read more

My appointment was on Thursday January 24th at 2:00pm. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted at the door and directed to an area where I could put my coat. Soon after, I was greeted by Sylvana, the hair stylist. She asked me what I was looking for and I showed her a picture on my phone of what I wanted. She agreed that the style I had chosen would suit my face. What I really liked after that is that she explained me what she was going to do and told me if I had any questions or concerns at any point, not to hesitate to voice them. She was very easy to talk to. Throughout the whole cut I felt like I was in good hands. She also gave me some great advice after the haircut on how to manage my hair. Important traits that I personally look for in a hair stylist are: perfectionism, professionalism, and the ability to listen to what the customer wants. I followed my stylist, Marie Eve to Salon M Toi. I always walk out of the salon feeling and looking good. I love how she colours, cuts and styles my hair even when she encourages me to go with my naturally curly hair rather than flat iron it straight. If you want something different just bring in a picture and she will cut it just like the picture. She always takes her time and I never feel rushed. I love getting my hair washed at the Salon M Toi because I am so comfortable in the chair lying back with my head on a cushion in the sink. I get a great scalp massage during the wash and I feel so relaxed during and after. The wash is one of the best parts of visiting the salon. I highly recommend Salon M Toi. I have been going to Val since I believe I was 16 years old, I was glad when she moved to pointe claire, my sister goes to the salon as well as my kids and my sisters kids, we always get great compliments on our hair, and I can for sure say it's due to the salon, all the hair dresser at the salon are great, Val has always taken the time to do my hair beautifully as well as professionally, I never have to wait long, and the environment is welcoming, I walk in and get offered coffee the receptionist is fantastic and not to mention the great hair dresser like savanna and val, I could not think of going anywhere else to be honest, just love the team! I have been going to this salon for hair cuts for about 2 years now. Several members of my extended family also use the salon for hair cuts and hair colouring. Included are women, men and children. We have never been dissatisfied. There is always parking close by, the staff is friendly and polite, the prices are very competitive and the three or four people we have used for our hair over the years are experienced and listen to what we would like.
