The experience was nice: the hot towel and the ambiance/vibe. However, the most important part, the…read morehaircut, was not. I asked for something specific with a picture reference (a mod cut, which is messy all around while keeping some length). When the haircut came to an end, I realized it was nothing like what I had asked for. I asked to keep the length in front to a specific point, which was not respected, and the excuse was that it would not be possible with the hairstyle I wanted, but he did not ask me about this beforehand. The sides were cut down basically all the way. The only good part was the back, which I was happy with.

If I remember well, I have been coming to Mod's hair for 4 years now. I encountered this place thru…read moreFacebook when lots of my friends like this place. For the longest time, I had my natural black hair; I was ready to take a slight risk to highlight my hair. I was appointed to JP (Jean Phillipe). When I arrived at the institution, I was welcome with warmth. Special love goes to Claire. Such a sweetheart; she is beautiful. Took care of me with drinks (great Cappuccino)and by conversing like we have been friends forever. JP is a hair colorist; he was very understanding about my fear to change my natural hair color. He put me on ease; tried bunch of samples on my hair. It gets confusing, but he was super helpful. Trust me he did a fantastic job. Check out is Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/le.mec.du.balayage I just love that dude. First time, JP gave me a caramel blond highlights over my black hair. Second time, I had ombré highlights of caramel blond again. Both times, I loved it, and can't wait for his next creation. For hair cut and style, initially I was Akiko, (who was the sweetest person and a great stylist) but she left to pursue her career somewhere else. My last two hair cut and style were done by Ly! He is a Superman for the hair. He can talk and feel the hair. He can work any texture of hair. And you ask how I know.... well he took care of three sisters's hair, and we all the girls have different type of hair, from frizzy, fine and wavy. He never goes drastic with me; he knows with my features what style would suit. He is an absolute creature. Beside JP, I love Ly too. Beside my sisters, few of my friends go to JP and Ly. The combination of both is lethal.

I can't believe I didn't review these guys yet! What a fabulous, complete experience this was! I…read moregot a fresh cut, dye job, style and manicure! It was my first time ever getting to enjoy a manicure spiff up while the dye was setting in my hair - so I ended up with both black hair and chic black nails. It was such an enjoyable glow up! My stylist was super sweet and gave me EXACTLY the hair colour and cut I wanted, which is, as many will know, not an easy thing to always achieve when you go to a new stylist. He listened carefully to everything I explained that I was looking for, and went out of his way to ensure that I got it! I even left with my specific dye recipe (which is kind of like a half-black, half dark brown mix) on a slip of paper, since he understood that I travel a lot and it would just make it so much easier to hand the recipe to my next stylist! I was so appreciative of that, because it's often hard to get a stylist to understand the kind of colour I'm looking for (surprisingly enough). Cut out the reddish, tone it down to a cool, deep, darkest brown bordering on black but not as unnatural looking as black. He nailed it. The next time I'm back in Montreal, this is where I will take myself immediately. The nail salon is next door, but they have a door between the hair salon and nail salon, so that your stylist can simply walk you through, with your towel on your head, sit you in a chair, and the manicurist knows exactly how much time there is to get your nails done before you have to go back over for your rinse. It's such a great working relationship. I was so happy with the manicure that I went back again for a redo a week and a half later! Fair warning, though - this salon IS in Westmount, the moneyed part of Montreal, so you will pay through the nose for your perfect salon experience. For me, it was worth it. A girl's gotta treat herself once in a while, and since I only typically hit a salon once every six months, I could justify it! Ha!

Very convenient if you have a break during the day. Prices are very reasonable (23$ for a simple cut). Oh, and I liked the cut itself too! They even finish off the neck trim with the blade, old-school style! Apparently they've been in business for many years, so I am really surprised they haven't gotten any reviews yet. Probably like 5 or 6 times I gave second chances, tried 3 different barbers which I hate cause everyone knows switching barbers is like cheating on your homegirl but I had hoped the next one was going to know how to handle my curly thick hair. It's not THAT complicated to do a nice looking fade, but when it comes to proportions and details theses fools should go back to school. I had better haircut for 15$ in Brooklyn. They charge 30$ here. The store definitely needs to be redone and if the owner needs a handy man holla at me man that's what I do! But thank to the workers and owners, atmosphere is cool/laid back depending on who you are I guess but they need to be more professional. Won't go back there tho.
