Well, Salon Hype came highly recommended but I have to say that it is not all it is "Hyped" to be. I am not a complainer; but I very nicely explained how I thought I may need 6-8 more foils to get to a bit closer to the color that I was expecting for my highlight. I was told that Dana could call me back when she was in, on Tuesday, and possibly schedule a follow-up at no charge to work with me. However, she called me today...was clearly annoyed & let me know that she "cannot be calling me while she was at work"; when I was told to leave a message & she could talk with me about another appointment, to "take care of it". My family & friends said it did not look like I had anything done to my hair!! I believe I can deduct there $160.00 donation to SH from my taxes!! Not cool you guys!!!! I am now extremely disappointed!!! I am in customer service & this would never be exceptable!!!! read more

The reception lady that answered the phone was so rude. I had made this highlighting appointment 3 months ago. They said they left me a message the day before to change my time and who was doing my highlights (which I never received the VM). My appointment was at 1:30 but when I arrived (from 30 miles away) they told me my highlights were with another person and the time was changed to 3pm!!! I left to run errands and when I called back to explain how frustrated I was with the mix up the women HUNG UP ON ME!!! Who does that??? It was the salons fault. This is a pretty nice Salon. The space is well designed and the staff is very friendly. The music that is always constantly playing is always awful but I've tolerated it because I was in great hands with an awesome stylists there. It took me about three long years to find a Salon, but in particular a stylist that knew how to cut my strangely straight but thick hair. I'm also pretty low maintenance, so Maureen knew just how to cut, thin out and layer so that even if I'm lazy my hair looks pretty darn good. If I make the effort it looks awesome. Unfortunately Maureen left and I'm thrilled to have found her at Elevate in La Grange with no help from Salon Hype who wouldn't provide me any info as to where she landed. read more

Came here after someone suggested this salon in a FB group. It was my first time here, and this place will definitely be my new salon! My stylist was Abbey and I received a balayage and cut/style. Abbey did such a fantastic job on my hair, and I am extremely happy with the color and blending. She was very thorough in explaining what she was doing to my hair, as well as provided excellent suggestions to maintain healthy hair and vibrant color. I wasn't bored during our session either, as Abbey was easy to talk to, had good conversation, and appears to have great rapport with her clients. I saw Paula when I visited this salon for the first time about a year ago. I traveled from the city to see her because I had heard great things. She did an amazing cut for me and styled it beautifully. What she did enhanced my ombre I had at the time. I felt gorgeous after leaving, which all girls wanna feel after their haircuts. When Paula wasn't available for a future appointment and I was in a pinch on time, Lucy was recommended to me. She did a very evenly cut, long angled bob, which I so desperately needed after growing my hair out for so long before my wedding. I felt 100lbs lighter! The ladies there know their stuff. I feel confident that whomever I see I will get a great cut. The reception knows who to send you to if you cannot see your regular stylist and that's a huge plus! I want to start off by saying that Abbey does my hair and she is AMAZING. Really, this post is not about the quality of the service. Abbey is great, I cannot say that enough! My hair always comes out looking better than expected. This post is about my last experience there with the receptionist. I am blonde, with thick hair and receive full highlights so no matter where I go, it's expensive. Ive been to this location about 3 times, the price has always ranged around the same amount. Within 10 dollars more or less each visit. I went to a different location once (Oak brook). That was a big mistake. Again, my hair was great but the amount that was charged felt a little crazy. Especially since I was the last and pretty much only client for the day, the stylist told me she would do a little extra for absolutely no charge... I was definitely charged for everything and more. So I haven't gone back to that location since. After that incident, I learned not to stray from Abbey. My most recent time going, I was ready to check out. Expecting to pay the typical amount that I paid 3 months prior... as the front desk rings my total she tells me I have a house charge. A what? I ask. A house charge... something that was added from my last visit because of whatever I had done that wasn't charged last time that should have been. Mind you, this "house charge" upped my bill by almost $100. I asked her to clarify why I was being charged so much. She proceeded to tell me what I had done. I just agreed because really I had no idea what they do to my hair. It's always the same thing, that's why I was so confused as to why I was "house charged" from last time. I know being blonde is expensive. And this place charges based off of stylist experience. But the past three times I've gone have been the same price. I was not expecting this. It was slightly embarrassing to be so unprepared like that. Unsure if I will go back. I love how Abbey does my hair but this LARGE amount of unexpected charges are insane. Consistency is nice, especially when highlights are already so expensive. This place defiantly lacks consistency in pricing. read more

I have been on the hunt for a fabulous hair stylist for several months. I recently moved to this area and my old stylist went into retirement. After a so so experience and a horrible experience I was referred to Salon Hype by one of my mom's groups. I arrived for my appointment and was greeted immediately by the receptionist and she offered me a cold beverage. Then I was greeted by my stylist Dana, she sat me down in her chair and we talked for a while about what I wanted. She displayed a ton of confidence which was great. So many people are intimidated by my thick, long hair. I had decided today that I wanted a new look. Dana did exactly what I asked for and she gave me a total hair makeover and cut more than 6 inches off of my hair. She showed so much enthusiasm about doing my hair, which put my nerves at ease. I honestly think she was more excited about my new hair do than I was. Which I thought was great when the client is doing a major change to their hair. I'm super happy with the color and I love my new hair style it looks and feels fabulous. Dana also recommended some hair products for my new do, which I also wound up purchasing as well. Overall the whole experience was great. The salon is beautiful and so are the happy who work there. Everyone was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be returning to Salon Hype to see Dana again for my hair care needs. read more

The salon in nice and clean and everyone was very friendly and welcoming but I'm not impressed. I spent almost 200 and I was left with horrible roots and overbleached hair with damage. I walked in just to remove toner from my blonde hair as it was overtoned at a previous salon and my stylist was on vacation. The stylist suggested more highlights and I asked for a root tap. The root tap was not blended at all and just looks like and continued to grow in with a very obvious line of demarcation. I did reach out to the stylist and she recommended even more highlights. I couldn't believe it. I'm sure I would have had even more damage. I tried reaching out to the salon because I couldn't believe I was left with this hair and paid that much. I have went to top salons on oak in the city and in Hinsdale and was just for various reasons looking for a change, a friend recommended salon hype and the location in burr ridge. I looked on various stylists reviews and their Instagram pictures and found a few identified with , at a couple different locations at the time it was around the holidays in the first person I could get in with was Dana in Lagrange , which worked out since I live in Lagrange. She did a great job right off the bat was very confident in what she was doing knew how to color and cut beyond what I expected she always hits it out of the park for me and I have never left! Recently my daughter who lives in the city and pays high prices and goes to a top salon was in town and I urged her to try Dana I think Dana did far better than anything she pays big money for in the city! She loved it and the salon is adorable clean cute friendly and relaxed! I would highly recommend the salon to anyone it is a top-notch salon in every way prices appearance stylus ownership I have never heard of bad word about anyone who uses any of their locations! Dara is the ABSOLUTE BEST. After leaving my trusty New Orleans stylist, I was afraid I'd have trouble finding someone who could make my fine, thin hair look thick and healthy. Dara always listens to what I'm looking for, checks out the reference pics I've saved on my phone, and goes over what she plans to do before chopping away. She's not afraid to tackle the cool, edgy cuts I'm looking for, either. The salon is really clean, and every member of the staff has been friendly to me each visit. Came in to see Deena for a "tone or glaze" to my highlights. This is a quick and easy service. However, I have never received such attitude and disrespect from a hair stylist. Paid and still gave her a 20% tip since I'm hoping that her attitude is from having a busy Friday which she emphasized during my appointment. I unfortunately came home and was told by my mom and boyfriend that my hair looks the same.. Due to Deena's poor skills and bad mannered customer service I cannot recommend this establishment. read more

I was scheduled for a partial highlight and haircut; and had even booked 2 weeks in advance because of my work schedule. After the assistant washed me out at the shampoo bowl, my "stylist" came over to the sink after talking to her other client who had just arrived. She seemed uneasy and asked if I would mind rescheduling my haircut appointment or waiting 45 minutes to an hour for her to apply foils to her next clients' hair. After arranging my schedule and booking way in advance, I was more than upset. I was the client that was there first and my hair was not at all complete. The stylist wanted to start on her other client because she did not want to keep her waiting; assuming she was a long-time client and much more important than me was the feeling that I was getting from the assistant. I was upset because I was there first and no, I would not wait around with wet hair, for nearly an hour, while she foiled another client. She quickly then apologized and blamed it entirely on the receptionist for not booking the appointments correctly. I shared this with the reception desk as I paid and went straight out the door with soaking wet hair. I felt belittled and embarrassed. I have never been mistreated at any other "high-end" salon in my life. I will not be returning to this cliquey and pretentious salon. read more

Needed a haircut BADLY and was in the mood to try something new. Found this salon on Yelp and walked out a believer, with a great haircut. I called and arranged an appointment within 24 hours. Upon arrival, I was given a tour of the facility, which made me think the salon was new, when in actuality, I learned it has been there for 6 years. My stylist was Dara, who talked with me about what would be good for my hair texture, length, etc. I was very impressed with the result, and was not pressured to purchase additional products that were used to create my "look". It's summer, so naturally I spend as little time wearing shoes as possible. This leaves my feet screaming for a little TLC. Add to that the shin splints I had from running and I was ready for a spa day. I used Yelp to find a local salon when I was in the area recently, hoping to get a relaxing pedicure. I found Salon Hype and called for their earliest appointment. To my excitement, they had an opening right then, so I made my way. I was paired with Bashia (I believe that is how you spell her name). I made my way upstairs where Bashia greeted me and sat me down for a foot soak. I liked the pedicure space but was used to salon chairs that had arm rests. I know this seems like a small thing, but you should be allowed the option of being your most comfortable at a spa. When Bashia returned after my foot soak, she dove right into the relaxation portion of my Spa Pedicure (I opted for this over the Express Pedicure). I received a leg exfoliation, hot towel treatment, leg massage...and that's about all. See, I've had similar pedicures done at other salons. I've had great pedicures and I've had bad pedicures. This one fell somewhere in the middle. Here's how I'd break it down: Pros: - Clean salon/spa - Bashia asked me several times about how I was enjoying the pedicure - Got an appointment quickly - Friendly staff - Clean bathrooms Cons: - The pedicure didn't seem to last long enough - No arm rests in the chairs - After the pedicure and after I sat under the dryer, Bashia never came back to check on me - Pricey - Too much talking among the staff during appointments I left feeling like there was more that could have been done. I really felt like they used the name "Spa Pedicure" as a hyped up description for a hot towel treatment addition to their Express Pedicure. I don't know that I'd return here again. I have been looking for a new place to get my hair highlighted and I saw this place one day as I walked my dog. I thought that I would give it a try. It was very cute inside and MUCH bigger with 2 floors, than I expected. The dryers are actually located by couches, not chairs, so you can relax a little while your hair processes. I have heard good things about Ross and that his haircuts grow out really well, but I do not know first hand, so I will tell you about my stylist. Kristina highlighted and cut my hair and did a very good job. The color was the right blonde that I was looking for. She also gave me a very cute cut, with nice side bangs. For the price, it was on the higher end of the spectrum, for full highlights and a cut it was 160, but I have a lot of hair, so I would suggest asking for a quote first. read more

Twice now, Salon Hype has helped me overcome my insecurity over getting a trendy, sexy haircut. A junior stylist, Rachel, has given me an amazing cut a couple of times. I like my hair done with a few custom tweaks so that I don't look like all the other posers with faux hawks. They have turned out fabulous as measured by all the compliments I've received. She has trained me on how to best use product and given me a touch up within a few weeks when needed. Her price is right and her skills are superb. Another stylist, Jessica, also gave me a great cut when Rachel wasn't available the other night. She actually coiffured me a little wilder than I had wanted but after the fact I love it because of how it's helping me come out of my shell. In general, my favorite aspect of the salon is that it's personal and unique. Unlike other similarly positioned salons in the area it has an interior design and ambience of its own. The stylists dress incredibly well. And if the rest of the guys and gals are as good as Rachel and Jessica you simply can't go wrong here. read more

I can not say enough good things about her abilities to listen to what I liked (so important) while suggesting a fresher look (even more important). If I could do Zero stars I would.... I had a terrible experience at this salon. I decided to go there based on the great reviews but unfortunately nothing was good about my visit. Dara was nice but in such a rush that I felt guilty for bothering her! I had highlights done and the worst part is that it didn't take. I left with the same roots/outgrowth of my hair as I came in. She didn't even blow dry my hair! She told me she didn't have time that day because they were extremely busy. I complained by the front desk when I was paying but the only thing they said was "we are very sorry but we are crazy busy today". I said that they must be kidding me to give such a poor excuse. Silly me, I still gave Dara a tip because you feel pressure right. I did email the owner but he never responded. I wouldn't recommend this salon to my worst enemy. Just got a manicure from Bosia a few days ago.... and I still find myself staring at my nails happy with how perfectly pretty they turned out. I love this salon, it's very clean and modern, and the people are all very bubbly and outgoing which can instantly put anyone at ease. I have had my hair cut here a few times, Jessica is wonderful and does a great job with color (on my friend) as well as cuts (me). I get my eyebrows waxed here as well, and they're very gentle and good about listening to what shapes you like (SO important, as I'm sure many of you know if you've ever had a bad experience). My favorite thing to have done here are my nails. 3/4 nail techs here are awesome. If you get a pedi, get the additional callus remover gel treatment... sounds gross, but your feet will be silky smooth after this one and it doesn't involve any of those scary razor/scrubber things that some of the cheaper salons use. I would give this place 5 stars, but my best friend, and frequent customer has had her appointment moved several times. Normally I wouldn't be bothered by this, but it's happened over 5 times after she has booked her appts a few weeks to months in advance. Also, one of their nail techs doesn't put out the same standard of manicure as the other 3 and it's really a shame. I mean gloopy gloppy nails, too short cuticles, etc. If you're in the area you really should stop in. Well worth the $. read more
