I was in search of a person to look at my over colored, lack of attention, stuck in the 80s long hair, and to look at me and see a vision to redirect my hair to a new life and direction. As women, we all know how our hair plays a huge part in our everyday life. Bad hair cut, color, style, or just afraid to step out of comfort zone. It can overcome our self esteem, self confidence, and love for self. I was at that point. After researching and many referrals, I found Berni's review to be my most appealing. The moment I stepped into her beautiful salon, bright, historical, and full of warmth, I knew my choice was a good one. It only grew from there. Berni sat me in her chair. Ask what I was thinking, and I said make me beautiful again, help me feel good about myself again. Berni listened, she not only considered my hair, she looked deeper into my facial features, my eyes, my skin tone, and she went to work. I was treated like I was her only customer however she was busy with creating magic all around me. Her staff is professional as well as personal, just like her. I had a complete change from hair color to hair cut. During the whole experience I was talked to and talked through the entire process. Some might consider my critique as extreme, but the attached image speaks volumes. The photo on the left represents the substandard work performed by the stylist at Twelve Five. The color was displeasing and the haircut was inadequately done. After a period of two months, my regular stylist managed to correct these issues. He was shocked to find my hair uneven - with the left side lengthier and the right side clearly butchered. Despite the stylist's five years of experience, he pointed out my hairstyle was not complex and it was obvious that it was cut by someone lacking the requisite skill. Bernie, the owner, did reach out to me after my initial review. She was quite considerate, offering both a solution to my problem and a refund. However, after the second mishap with my hair, I was not comfortable with the idea of them handling my hair again. I visited Salon Five Twelve for the first time today. Had originally planned to have highlights/lowlights; however, decided on just a cut to begin with. Bernie and all the girls were just wonderful to meet, and to be around. It was just like I had known everyone there for a long time! I received the most wonderful shampoo and head & neck massage. Then, Bernie gave me one of the best haircuts! I may decide to have a little color later on. I'm truly liking my gray hair, feeling good in my own skin at my older age. Bernie, the girls, and even some of the clients recommended I don't do color right now. Bernie is so honest and she really knows "hair." I would definitely recommend this salon! I drive an hour to get my hair cut and colored at Salon Five Twelve. There a places closer for sure but it's the spirit of excellence with which they work. They have so many talented stylists there. I have had at least 4 different team members cut and color my hair over the 15 years I have been with this group of hair dressers. They do it with precision. One thing I love is they stay with current trends and are always changing it up to keep me looking my best. They are always doing things to give back to the community too and that is important to me. Coming to Salon 512 is not just a haircut. It is a theraputic experience. I come with great anticipation knowing that I am going to have a little respite and leave looking great! The atmosphere is light and relaxing. The staff is super kind and fun to be around. The shampoo experience is "oh my!" And I totally trust Bernie with my hair. We disucss basics like, keep the length or lets go shorter and from their I turn it over to Bernie to do her magic. I have yet to be disappointed. She is a true artist with a gift.
