This is a very cute boutique, similar to one you would find in old town alexandria except this place has a lot more space and is hidden away in warrenton, virginia. Our wedding party had our hair and make up done here - everyone was very friendly and I felt like home especially because our appointments started before they opened so we had the place to ourselves for a couple hours! They provided light snacks and juice for our mimosas. Grace did my hair in about 30 minutes and it looked amazing just like the pictures I had showed her. I normally don't write reviews but I know getting your hair done can be expensive and you want someone you can trust and so reviews are helpful. I got my hair done for the first time ever and asked for a balayage, showed the stylist melany pictures and explained what I wanted and I felt like we were on the same page. I left with 5 large chunky highlights and I was very blonde at the front of my face and dark in the back. I called back and they got me in right away and she fixed it to make it look a bit better and she was very friendly and apologetic. Customer service was great but I did not have a great experience as far as how my hair ended up looking and now looks because of it. read more

I have been going to salon emage for several years now and have seen several stylists. They have all provided excellent service and each showed care and attention to my needs. However, my best experiences by far have been Charla Malone's facials. Never have I encountered a skin care professional with the perfect balance of skin care knowledge, attention to detail and deft touch. She has cleared up all issues and left my skin looking years younger. Her scalp massages would be worth the price entirely on their own. She is God's gift to skincare. read more

Thank you hair and makeup staff at Salon Emage My friend and I are from NYC and we were in over the weekend for a three day wedding at Great Marsh Estate and staying at Airlie. Not only was our makeup by Grace perfect and flawless -- She made us look young and hip; but our blow outs by Lisa and Tori were fabulous and lasted until the next day for brunch. Paid for my daughter and I to get our hair done and my makeup done for a recent wedding at Salon Emage. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff were so sweet! The price about knocked me off my feet, though. $380 for a four-year-old's hair and my hair and makeup. The hair was very different than the images I showed the stylists and my daughter's fell out before the wedding :( really bummed. But if you have extra money to spend, the atmosphere and customer service were great. Just watch, it's very spendy. read more

I've had several services at this salon before and overall I'm very satisfied, except with the massage I got from Shane. I've had waxing done, hair cut and color, pedicures, and they've all been extremely wonderful. That's why I was so surprised at my massage experience with Shane. He talked the entire time and made weird sexist comments about the evolutionary differences between men and women? He even said "women don't lift their hands above their head because they're worried their stomach will show." I also specifically mentioned my calves were bothering me and he maybe spent 15 seconds on them but instead spent a lot of time on my butt because he said "women hold a lot of tension in their butt." He didn't use the correct terms for the muscles he just said "butt." He tickled my armpit (on accident) at one point and when I flinched he sort of whispered, "I got you." And I thought that was kind of creepy. He would also react obnoxiously to a tight muscle that he found saying loudly, "oooooohhh that's so tight." And to top it off while I was laying on my stomach I'm 99% sure I felt him smell my hair a couple times which is just about the creepiest thing I've ever experience during a massage. This was not a relaxing experience at all. I felt pretty uncomfortable around him to be perfectly honest. I don't want to bash the salon because, like I said before, all of my other services from here were great and I'll continue to go to this salon for them. But I will obviously never get another massage here until they get a new masseuse. read more

Before I go into why I'm giving Salon Emage a 1 star review. I'd Like to Say Lauren is a great hair dresser and deserves a 5 star review. I have a 13 month old daughter I don't like taking her to hair appointments because she does not sit well. Normally I have a family member watch her or I schedule hair cuts for Saturday when my husband is home. The person who watches her was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and is extremely ill. My husband and I are going to an out of town family wedding in less than a week so he has been working overtime. Due to all this I decided to make an appointment as early as possible appointment (before the salon became too busy) so I could take my daughter since no one could watch her while I prepped for the wedding. We get there before my appointment at 9a and she's happy, eating breakfast and snacks! My hairdresser was late due to a car accident (which was out of her control and therefore I was not upset about that). I didn't sit down until 9:30a. My daughter started to cry shortly after this and I apologized, but my hairdresser and the ladies beside us said "don't worry about it" The problem came when I was leaving and an elderly woman from the manicure section came out. She was staring at me and said "that's not good". I went over to her and asked her what she meant by that. She began to give me a lecture on how to care for my child. I asked for her name and she refused to give it to me saying "it doesn't matter". I went to the front and found out her name is Doris. I went back to Doris to tell her she is the reason I would not come back. Doris said that was fine (me not coming back). she continued to speak over me. I ended up saying "Doris, shut the F#$K up!" and left. I was not charged for the hair cut due to the embarrassment caused by Doris. I left and came back with a tip for Lauren. Doris approached me and put her hand on my back. I asked her not to touch me and had to tell her more than once before she removed her hand from my back. I didn't want to talk to her but she kept trying to speak saying "it was unfair that I would not listen to her side" I told her I would write a review about her and she said "that's fine I have witnesses" Before scheduling my appointment for a weekday. I had asked if I could bring my daughter. As previously mentioned I don't normally bring my daughter to the salon, but was unable to get someone to watch her this time and I was in need of a haircut before the wedding. I would of scheduled my appointment for a Saturday. But I do not want to go somewhere, pay for a service and be judged so harshly by someone who does not know the circumstances. read more

Salon Emage was fantastic. My bridesmaids and I went there to have our hair and makeup done for my wedding. They set up a beautiful breakfast spread and made our morning fun, memorable and relaxing. It takes alot for me to feel compelled to write a not-so-positive review as small businesses sometimes live and die by what consumers have to say, but I am very disappointed in this establishment. I purchased a gift certificate for my wife to get a massage here. The massage therapist was rude & inconsiderate. She did not ask my wife anything about her needs, history, what she needed, etc. She was texting with one hand and trying to massage with the other!!! At times she completely paused while being on her phone. When my wife confronted her (while she lay on the table) the therapist became defensive and beligerent. I left a message for the owner or GM to call me, but to to no avail. Get your massage somewhere else, or at least ask for a satisfaction guarantee?? read more

I was in town for a wedding, so the morning-of, all the bridesmaids/female family members/etc assembled here to get fancified. It was a pretty fabulous experience. Pros: + Able to accommodate a LARGE party of reservations. + All of the stylists were really, really good at their jobs. Everyone left with makeup and hair looking stunning! + Very welcoming of the people who weren't currently having services done; like I said, we were there for a wedding, so the salon owner set out a huge table with juice, pastries, cheeses, and sweets - all local. + Free parking! + Conveniently located (only about a mile from the Black Horse Inn, one of the major venues in the area) + All of the staff were sweet, funny, engaging, and pleasant to work with. They were even accommodating of our eleventy thousand requests along the lines of "Can you take ONE more picture with my phone? Really, this is the last time, I promise, we just want to get everyone together ..." Cons: - A little on the pricey side, for such a small town. - One family member had to cancel, but ended up being charged the full amount for the service. I understand why they do this, but given the size of the party, I'm a little disappointed. - Several of us wanted to get nails done and made appointments, but were told later the nail technician would be unable to take *anyone* that day. It didn't even look like anyone was working that station. Verdict: Recommended :-) read more

I've been to Salon Emage a few times mainly for hair and once for facial/eyebrows. I see Melanee every time and she is fantastic. She doesn't seem to mind working with longer hair as some other hairstylists do. I always hated getting that look at other places like "please lady, just go away..." I like the sense of teamwork while i'm there. Other stylists come over and give suggestions if needed. I can tell they love doing hair and trying out new things they've learned at continuing education lectures. Charla did my eyebrows and shaped them up nicely. Not too thin which is what I wanted. I've never had an issue with scheduling,wait time or with the front desk. Everyone has been friendly. The salon is well kept. I never see dust bunnies rolling around on the floor. I like how I never hear the employees gossiping or talking poorly about the manager and/or customers like other places i've been. I love Salon Emage. read more

I came here for my wedding in early September. Karen works with all the brides, and she is the absolute best. Very friendly and incredibly prompt and proactive. My mom and I booked appointments for us and all bridesmaids about a year out. In January, Karen was in touch for my trial which I did in May. I had six bridesmaids, myself and my mom, and we were all out in under 2 hours. Grace did my hair, and she is amazing. If I lived in Warrenton, this would be my regular salon. I live in Arlington, VA and prices were similar at this salon, so it is probably a little pricey for Warrenton, but worth it for events such as weddings. read more

I booked a massage with Shane last Saturday. I was shocked he had soo many openings and was easy to schedule for the next day. Which made me skeptical as normally you have to wait to get in to see a good massage therapist. Once I got there and he started his "massage," that's when I realized why he had many available openings. He talked the entire time, I couldn't "relax." At times I felt like I was there for physical therapy or warming up to exercise as he kept stretching my arms and then my legs. He cracked my toes which I made clear before the massage that I wanted upper body massage only. I haven't had a massage in over 2 yrs and paid extra for deep tissue. It was a basic "massage" that left me disappointed. read more

**Do not allow LAUREN BENNETTE to dye your hair.** She clearly has no experience dying hair. I spent four hours there for my brunette hair literally turned orange and grey when I asked for high lights and low lights to be put in my hair. She was proud of the work she did. She even took a picture. I could not see the colors at the salon because it's low lit but when I arrived home and looked at it in my bathroom I was devastated and brought to tears by how badly she ruined my hair. I also asked her expertise on if I should get bangs or not. She said yes and trusted her response when she said yes but it turned out so bad my husband and daughter told me it looked badly when I walked in the door. I knew I shouldn't of trusted her to dye my hair when she told me the story of how she tried to dye her own hair purple at home and it turned green. I am a very busy mother of three. Two of them are under three and only 18 months apart. I take very little time to do nice things for myself. This was the first day in two or three years I thought I'd do something nice for myself and get my hair cut and colored. Now, I am literally depressed over the crayon orange and crayon grey I have in my hair. read more

First time here, came in for just a color root touch up, I ended up getting lowlights as well, to the advise of the stylist. He did an ok job with the color and lowlights, came out way too dark for my taste. After my color was washed out, he grabs the scissors to cut my hair, I told him I didn't want a haircut this time, in which he replied, I think you need it. After back and forth I stood my ground and said no. As far as the "Styling" part of it, it consisted of blow drying my hair with his fingers, no brush, no flatiron, no curling iron, honestly I could have done that myself at home for free. I guess he was upset that I didn't agree to the haircut. The price was outrageous for what I got. On another note, the lighting was horrible, I could barely see my color and lowlights when he was done. I definitely won't be back. read more

My overall experience was mostly positive and I do really like my haircut, however, the young girl who was in charge of shampooing my hair (i believe she had pink hair) smelled terrible. I really didn't want to say anything because it'd be rude but every time she reached around me I found myself gagging a little bit. For the rest of the day I felt like the smell followed me. She seemed like a nice girl but I really could not get past that rancid smell. As much as Ive enjoyed the salon in the past, I probably won't be coming back because I couldn't handle it. read more

Very much enjoyed my most recent visit to this salon. I saw on Facebook that a couple of stylists had last-minute appointments on a Sunday afternoon. I don't have my hair cut often and when the mood strikes, I generally want to do it that day, which, understandably, rarely works for most salons. Nonetheless, I happened to be downtown about 15 minutes before one of the appointment times listed on Facebook so I stopped in to see if someone was available still. Lucky for me, I was able to get in to see Lauren right away and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience. She worked with me to decide on a style that worked for me and I'm very happy with the results. This was the worst experience in my life! I came here the morning of my wedding and wanted a simple up do that incorporated a braid. The "stylist" if you could even call her that was a high school student! Not only did she do a horrible job and I had to have my bridesmaid redo my hair, they still charged me even though my hair was already falling out of the braid. The hairdo looked nothing like what I asked for! After I got back from my honeymoon I kept having to call and leave messages for the Manager who finally returned my call and said they would refund me. They sent me a check with such tiny writing that I wasn't able to deposit it and I had to call them back and ask them to send a new check that you could actually read what it said. Worst customer service ever! They have no business charging $150 for an updo that is done by an unlicensed high school student! read more

Very disappointed with the experience at Salon Emage. Pretty much from the moment I sat down in the chair my barber Frank was just concerned with lowering my expectations and had a borderline insulting attitude. Not grateful in A slightest bit for the clean hair I walked in there with. But oddly he claimed to be a master and talked about how he trains his apprentices to me. If he is such a master there wouldn't be a need to attempt to lower my expectations, would there? The quality of his work is mediocre at best I'm not gonna lie and say it was awful crap but he definitely was in a very big hurry to finish the cut. he did not listen to what I said he just made bold claims but delivered like I said a mediocre cut at best. How are you gonna claim to do a fade yet use one machine and one guard ? I pointed out mistakes my previous barber had made which were not addressed and were still there when I went home. The cut was also non symmetrical. To make matters worse the front desk lady also attempted to lower my expectorations so I have a feeling that that's how these guys operate over there. But they tried hard to get me to come back next month. basically if you're a good looking white man don't go there you'll be very disappointed, that's just my opinion. read more

Not a bad salon but not a great one either. I did encounter a little trouble making the appt. I was put on hold two times in 3 minutes!! The staff was a little aloof towards me but I have to say much better than the treatment I received at another local salon( see other reviews). But I never got the feeling I was anything but a minor annoyance for them. The services I received were OK. I think I need to seek out a more customer friendly place in Warrenton. Any suggestions?? This Salon is a rip off! I had to go there for an updo and make-up for a bridal party. I really enjoyed and appreciated how they accommodated everyone and how efficient they were with all the girls and the bride. I did NOT appreciate paying high dollar prices for services that were clearly being given by High School family members. I ended up redoing my hair before the wedding, and frankly braiding my hair better then what i had done there. read more

I had gel manicure done on December 21st for a vacation and to not have to worry through the vacation and Christmas. Sam did my nails and she was great- professional and personable. However, starting the next, day and everyday after, either a nail broke, cracked and splintered off, or popped off. As soon as I got home (7 days and I had two nails left intact! I have had regular nail polish last longer for 1/100th the price!) I emailed Salon Emage about this twice using both email from Facebook and their webpage. I called twice as well, first call was told by whom ever answered that they don't normally answer the phones but would leave my number and concerns and I would have a call back. The second call I asked to wait on hold until a manager was available after briefly explaining my concerns that I had a bad batch used on my manicure and I was immediately hung up on. I do not like to leave poor reviews but aside from the worst quality manicure I've ever had, the poor customer service and lack of even a response to phone calls and emails (which I detailed timeline and quality shown with pictures I took illustrate which ones in order and what happened when as I was on vacation) is why after a full month of zero reciprocation of communication I am now trying to warn others and hopefully save them $100. In my emails I stressed that it was not Sam's work but rather I was concerned the product had gone bad they used on me as I have never had a gel manicure act like this even under way more stressful work (as and office admin carry, typing, posting, setting up meetings and events and breaking down and cleaning up and additionally as preschool teacher working with tons of kids, playground, cleaning, lifting, crafting... these lasted me three weeks or more! Comparatively vacation was hardly any stress yet only two made it through one week? ). I was first concerned to warn them they probably have either a bad batch or expired and didn't know? But as I received no communication back or answer for my request of a refund minus tip (again, great service by Sam, it's not her fault!) I feel that a poor review is warranted as either they know they have a poor product and just don't care, or are refusing a refund by ignoring over five requests through various communications. Of course technically only 4 I guess because I was hung up on once? I am new to the area and this place came highly recommended. Sadly I am only here to say that is not true and beware if you are seeking a manicure. Not only will it not last a week, it will not even last a full day! read more

I planned my Shenandoah Mountain wedding from Chicago where I live and had to book hair/makeup stylists without getting a consultation or even meeting in person beforehand. I was, frankly, pretty nervous about this, but Karen's team (Charla, Sam, and Lisa) definitely came through. They traveled out to our wedding location to provide our services onsite for a very fair price. Other local vendors I spoke to charged a travel fee, had price minimums, and a variety of other specific requirements. Karen sounded shocked when I told her that on our first phone call and confirmed that they don't do anything like that. Karen was incredibly responsive to emails and phone calls, which calmed my nerves during the long distance wedding planning. When her team arrived on the wedding day, they quickly and easily got set up and finished all our services with plenty of time to spare. I received compliments on my hair and makeup all night and my girlfriends looked amazing as well. Thanks Salon Emage! read more

I won't go back, the atmosphere seems like a nice one and facilities professional and nice staff. I went for acrylics, had to get them redone two days later because they were lifting horribly and the top coat had started peeling, and weren't even. Very disappointed in the service I received from this Salon. I wrote in today requesting pricing for bridal services, and although the venue is a 9 minute drive from the Salon, they require a $1000 travel fee. I called to ask if there was any flexibility given that this location is under 10 minutes away, and Karen, the bridal coordinator was possibly one of the rudest people I have ever spoken with. She chastised me for mispronouncing the owner's name and told me I sounded like a solicitor for doing so, which was very odd given I was trying to solicit their services. I understand they want to protect their stylists' time, but the fact they have zero flexibility when the venue is so close just doesn't make any sense. She told me that the reason was because they have to compensate for the time they're out of the chair, but then suggested I come into the salon. This doesn't make sense because the ~4 hours they would be spending they were being compensated for already, and that would leave ~20 minutes of travel time that they wouldn't be compensated for which she claims is worth $1000. Something doesn't add up there. I'm not what service they would be able to do in 20 minutes if they were at their salon? The tone she had was incredibly abrasive for absolutely no reason (she said she got an email from my stepmother that said "Wow $1000?" which I don't think she was meant to be copied on as my stepmother isn't very email-saavy, and then told me I had sent her that email when that was not at all the case. I also think that reacting to the price in that way shouldn't have been so offensive - it is a lot of money.) Regardless she said there was absolutely no flexibility in their policy and that every bride they had done services for at the same location had paid the price (those poor women!). What she did not know was that I was actually considering paying the fee, but her tone and overall attitude and rudeness changed my mind. I work in Sales for a multi-billion dollar brand name company, and we gladly make concessions for our customers all the time as we understand the importance of customer relationships. Unfortunately for Melanee and her team, Karen clearly does not. Such a disappointment and was looking forward to being able to refer them to others in the community. Oh well. Don't recommend them given the short experience I had working with Karen. Melanee may be very different and I'd like to give her the benefit of the doubt, but I suppose I'll just never know. read more

I had a great experience here for my wedding hair/makeup. They also did hair for my wedding party (6 bridesmaids and 2 flower girls) as well as hair and makeup for my mother and mother-in-law. I thought everyone looked great and I was particularly thrilled with my hair and makeup. I also found their price to be reasonable considering other quotes I received for wedding hair/makeup. We came into the salon for services, which was cheaper than if we had hair/makeup artists come to our hotel or the venue. The salon was very accommodating to some last minute changes (my niece wanted her hair done at the last minute) and they even put out a nice little spread with cheese, crackers and juices. Charla, the make-up artist, was over the top accommodating and friendly. I had to reschedule my make-up trial with Charla due to a family emergency that she needed to tend to. When I requested to come in on a Sunday morning, she had the salon open just for me so that I could have my trial (unbeknownst to me). She was very receptive to the feedback I had about my makeup, and on the day of the wedding my makeup was absolutely flawless. She is incredibly sweet and really makes you feel like a million bucks. Grace did my hair and I found her to be similarly considerate. I was very unsure how to do my hair and she was great about taking direction from me, while also making suggestions, to come up with a hairstyle that really worked. I didn't have any issues with my hair style coming apart. I didn't notice any of the bridesmaids' hair coming undone, either. I think this is a perfect spot for wedding hair/make-up. I had a great experience working with the salon and I think the staff really made everyone look and feel great. read more

I chose Salon Emage for hair and makeup for my February wedding. I could not have been happier! I gave the Salon a try first with a haircut and highlight with Lisa a few months before my wedding. I was really impressed with her and the entire Salon, so I decided to book them for my wedding. The Salon's bridal coordinator, Lois, was a joy to work with and made the entire process - from planning, answering questions, trial hair/makeup, to actual wedding day - seamless. There was a brunch waiting for me and my bridal party on my wedding day, and Lois really made us feel welcome and special. Charla did my makeup and it was absolutely stunning. She really knows what questions to ask to know what will look best on you and what you will be comfortable with. Samantha did my up-do and it was truly a work of art.
