So disappointing when things go from good downhill. I've been in the Elmhurst area for just about three years now. And about a year or so ago I tried the salon. The service seemed fine although all the stylist chat it up with each other like they are in college and it's Friday at 3pm (what are you doing tonight, who are your seeing, you look great. Blah, blah, blah). It had what I needed, on time, and get me out of there quickly. I stopped going for a while and then called my stylist T. back to ask if she could cut my daughters hair. I left two messages for her and she did not return them. Finally I scheduled with someone else. When I walked in, T. was having her make up applied by a make-up person and I said hello - she showed no indication of knowing me in her response. While my daughter was getting her hair cut, she walked by. I called her name and introduced myself again, she said she knew....and I asked if she got my messages, she simply said yes. A little caught off, I kinda said well? She said it was too late every time she could call me back. Hmmmmm....you could have been calling me back when you were getting your make up put on, I thought. The most puzzling thing is she never asked me what I wanted. She had only done my hair before, so there was no reason to think that I did not still have a question for her about me. It's been about a month since this happened and I contemplated not posting, calling the manager, something - but with the decline of customer service everywhere, at some point, people need to know that if they work with the public, there is a certain amount of responsibility to the customer/client. For the past 2 months, I have been emailing this salon to get an appointment. I originally received an email back from the salon to schedule an appointment through email. I asked if she would kindly call me to schedule my appointment which would go much more quickly. However, she cut off communication for some reason and will no longer reply to my emails. I'm still trying to get through to someone so that I can use my Groupon. If they don't get back to me within the week, I'm left with no choice buy to report their delinquency to Groupon. No customer should have to wait more than 2 months for the privilege of being able to schedule an appointment. I finally switched to a different salon after going to salon Efthimia for a few years. I kept going here because it was close, but now that I've moved I will be going elsewhere. There was always a strange vibe in this salon. The stylists talked mostly to each other, and not to the clients. I felt almost like I was intruding, and that this was some type of "cool" club I wasn't allowed to join. Plus, I always asked for layers in my hair and for them to try different things. My friend used to come to this salon and liked it, so I hopped on the opportunity to buy a massage Groupon a while ago. And to be honest, the low reviews kept me away until now. My massage was with Maya and she's such a sweetheart. She really knows what she's doing and she provided me with a therapeutic experience. I came in looking for tension relief and definitely got that. Maya took into consideration the areas I indicated on my intake form and spent extra time on my neck and shoulders. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. Shame on me. As my father told me on his deathbed, work hard, play hard. And while destroying my liver is my usual idea of playing hard, I also enjoy a good pampering. With a head of hair like mine, you don't go to "Shit Clips". I go see Effie. She listens to what I want and currently what I want is to go against my wife's wishes and grow my hair long. I actually have to get it trimmed more often while in the growing out period. Right now I'm in that awkward halfway in between stage. But she assures me that once I'm past it, it's going to look great. The staff is always friendly and treat me like a king when I walk in the door. The shampoo girls are awesome. One of them massages my head so well that I just about fall asleep. I bought a Groupon for Salon Efthimia for their sixty minute elemental massage. I am always on the lookout for massages in Groupon and since this one was near my parents house I figured I would try it out. I got my massage yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Maya was my masseuse and she was very good. Beforehand they had me fill out a survey and asked which part of my body needed the most work, I replied with my upper back and neck area and Maya definitely took it into account and spent extra time on my neck, shoulders and upper back. I also have to say she did a great job on my feet and legs, something I was definitely not expecting. My only complaint is that the massage did not last a full hour. I made my appointment for 11:15 and showed up promptly. By the time I filled out their survey, redeemed my groupon, changed my clothes, got settled in the room and picked out a "chakra" fifteen to twenty minutes had already gone by and Maya ended my massage promptly at 12:15. I did not want to complain but if they are going to add that prep time into your massage time they should suggest arriving early - I could definitely have used that extra fifteen minutes! All in all I'd say checking out Salon Efthimia is definitely worth it. I for one want to go back and try out the hot rock massage... read more

I had an all around terrible experience - from the stylist talking about how she was out until 3 am the morning before (exactly what you want to hear while someone is taking scissors to your hair) to the resulting cut, I would caution anyone thinking about this salon to look elsewhere. I asked for a trim of about 2 inches and NO layers since I wear my hair in braids and buns 99% of the time and walked out with a 6 inch hack job and layers so short Rachel Green would be traumatized. I haven't been able to style my hair properly yet and I now am forced to decide if I go for the full chop and get a bob, which my long hair hasn't seen in at least 25 years, or spend another 5 years growing it out. read more

I was actually looking for the Salon's number and noticed all the sub-par reviews and felt the need to share my experiences. I've been going here to get my hair cut for the last four years and have only had one bad experience when I had to wait ~20 minutes. Every time I go the receptionist asks to take my coat (in the winter) and offer me a beverage (water, coffee, tea, etc.). I have been getting my hair cut by Mandy for the entire four years and I have yet to receive a bad haircut. The prices are a bit high, but I have always had a great haircut and experience so I think it is justified from my point of view. I am not sure why the place has received so many negative reviews as the staff has always been great and I have always loved my hair cut. read more

I have only been to this place for my hair, not for any of the spa services, but I love it. The first time I went I was randomly given Lizette as my stylist, and I have made my appointments with her ever since! She is so nice and super friendly. I have very thick, curly hair and she can blow-dry it straight without a problem, whereas some stylists seen to have a really hard time with it! She always tells me what she thinks would look best, yet respects my final decision every time. My hair ALWAYS looks great afterward. She is so chatty and open and always remembers things I told her previously, so it's fun to catch up with her each time I go. As for the rating that says that the stylists only talk to each other, I have never had that happen to me or seen it happen to anyone else! read more

I get my hair done by Mandy, she knows my funky punky hair style and nails it every time. She has recommended awesome hair tips that I use at home that are cost effective. I get my nails and pedicures done by Niki, great job every time. Its moderate pricing so I don't get it done too often. They offer great month long specials at the salon for nail care so I usually take advantage of the deal. January is a pedicure with free basic manicure. I think Melissa did a massage for me, it was very therapeutic and relaxing I will definitely get another one here. Overall, I love that it's an Aveda salon. I love love looove the Aveda tea and little compliments they offer during the stay. I buy my product from them as well. The product is expensive but its standard for salon products. read more

I love this salon. They offer complete professionalism. I get the most precise cuts in the world from a stylist named Angela. I have naturally curly hair and she knows how to tame it and de- bulk it. If you want hair that is classy or trendy Angela can deliver the look you want!! I graduated hair school this September and met tons of people in the industry, I could get my hair cut for free by a number of people, but I only trust my hair cuts to Angela. This was the first time I had a manicure here and it started off poorly. The appointment was for 10:00 and made sure I got there earlier. I was under some time constraints and had the expectation that my appointment would start on time. Little did I know that the woman who strolled in at 10:00 was the woman who was going to give me the manicure. A few minutes later, she came out and got me. She started off trimming my nails, at my request, but she trimmed them much shorter than I wanted. I'll just have to wait for the nails to grow back out before I can open pull tabs again. I want to scream!!!!... just got out of the shower after going to sallys and spending another 36$ on my hair. I just paid 230$ to get a balayage and I not only don't have one, but the girl didn't tone my hair so I left looking like carrot top... I had dye all over hair line and ears... then I said "no need to blow dry it i have to put it up in a ponytail anyway"... she says, "yea but i want to do it.." ..... then she charged me for a blow dry!!!!!!... I not only look nothing like the picture I showed her, but I looked worse leaving then when I got there.. and then they said I can pay with credit card but I have to leave a cash tip.. what? Go out of my way to go to an atm to pay a fee and go back and give you a tip?? What the hell just happened??!!! Awesome !!!! never again!!!!!! read more

My husband bought me a gift card here for valentines day. When he purchased it he told the receptionist he wanted enough for a mani/pedi, massage and women's haircut. When I called to book the services I decided to get a facial instead of a massage and was told that there would be a 10 minute "break" between my nails and facial so my nails could dry, sounded good to me. The day I get there and check in I expected a spa day, to be pampered. Well I was wrong. I checked in and no one told me where I could hang my coat, get some water or even where to sit where it was warm- their lobby is freezing! The lady who did my nails was nice but as soon as we started she let me know that she did not take the salon gift card because she rents. What? Maybe someone should have told me when I booked (and specifically told them I had a gift card) ok, I was trying to not let that ruin my spa day but it did add $50 to my bill. I also felt rushed, I could have gotten the same mani/pedi for $28 at a nail salon. After my nails I went back to the lobby to wait for my facial, no one talked to me, asked me of I needed anything or even acknowledged I was there. After sitting, and shivering! For about 15 minutes someone finally got me tea and told me the girl to do my facial would be there soon - 15 minutes later she finally arrived. My appointments were scheduled 1:30 for mani/pedi, 3:00 for facial. So either the girl did rush through my nails or they scheduled a lot longer than 10 minutes between services. Finally I was taken to the "spa" part of the salon - finally! Relaxing music, warm, a nice robe. I wouldn't have minded the wait time if I was able to wait in the spa instead of listening to the annoying chitter-chatter of employees with loud, annoying music and freezing! The facial was very nice but by this time I was generally annoyed. Lastly I got my haircut. The girl barely listened to me- no bangs the way I asked, the front was not cut to my liking and although I left happy, she styled it nicely, I came to realize I can not style it the way she did. I felt she too rushed through my appointment. I have two young children and this was suppose to be a relaxing get away for me but instead I am still upset I didn't get my spa day. :( we spent a lot of money at this salon and I do not feel I was treated as I should have been. Now I have to decide if I want to try to go back to have my hair fixed, deal with it or go to a whole new salon and spend more money. All and all a very disappointing experience. read more

I'd like to support a local business and I do love Aveda products, but my recent spa experience here was mediocre at best. Perhaps it was because I was using a Groupon? It just didn't compare to so many of the spa services I have received at comparable places like Mario Tricoci or Michael Anthony. The desk attendent was not unpleasant, she just wasn't warm or particularly welcoming. She didn't say "have a seat and we will be right with you," she just handed me a clip board. When I gave it back, she took it without a word. After waiting for about 15 minutes, I was called back for my facial. The girl who did my facial was nice enough, but I just felt like it was mechanical. Mundane. Nothing to rave about. No discussion of my skin status or recommendations. Just a "get the job done" feel. I was also really disappointed by no hand rub, lotion, or warm mittens. Not one touch to my winter bitten, dry hands. Every other salon I have ever been to, always moisturized the hands during a facial. At the end of my facial, I was escorted to the checkout. No makeup touch up. I can't really complain because I paid half price with my Groupon - but if I had paid the full price, this would have been a disaster. But really, shouldn't I be treated like a full paying customer regardless? Places like MT and MA just go a little beyond to make the spa experience a special. I get my hair colored here by Mandi. Their products that they use are great and always leave my hair looking healthy. I also love how a blow dry is included with color. Not the case at Ifergan where I used to go. My husband and son also get their hair cut here. Nicole does a great job. Hairdressers are very sweet and the desk is accommodating. They send reminders out via email and text if you'd like which is also great. And if you schedule your next appointment when you are there, they reduce the price by a small amount. The only reason I did not give them 5 stars is that email reminders that I responded to were not responded to. Also, I feel they try to upsell a little too much. I get my hair cut elsewhere and they are constantly asking me when I make an appointment and then when I check in if I needed a cut as well. If they fix these items, they would have gotten 5. read more

I've been coming here for a few years, but I don't come very regularly. I looked at most of the negative reviews, and they mostly seem to be a couple years old. They aren't wrong, but the atmosphere in the salon has changed for the better over the years. I have had an almost universally good experience here - the salon sells great products, and (hopefully) people working here will offer you wine, coffee or their wonderful Aveda tea. I really only see Mandy for my hair, and she always does a great job. She's also really genuinely personable. The most recent time I went a young woman named either Carissa or Clarissa washed my hair, and she also did a very nice job - she was very gentle and gave a great scalp massage. This is an upscale spa, so obviously the prices can be a little high, but that's to be expected. Some of the older reviews mentioned the reception desk as being a weak area, and I think that's still true. Sometimes the person behind the desk is polite and friendly, and sometimes it's someone much less personable, or even rude. Luckily, your experience here is largely determined by the people providing you direct services, and if you can find a stylist or masseur or nail artist, etc that you like, you'll probably have a pleasant experience. One of the reasons I like to see Mandy is that if she knows you're there waiting, she'll check on you and let you know how long it will be, and she'll make sure you've got a drink at least. Also, never park in the front. There's often no parking, and you usually have to parallel park. There's a lot in the back, and a little covered walkway that takes you right from that rear parking lot to right near the store, which is easier and faster. read more

I just got my hair cut by Beth, and this is the WORST haircut I have ever gotten in all of my life! As a former hairdresser, I know how to explain exactly what I want done, and I got the exact opposite! I told her not to cut it shorter than shoulder length, she cut it chin length. (Taking off at least 4 inches of my hair - mind you!), I told her I wanted shorter layers throughout the cut since my hair is very fine and longer lengths will only weigh it down, she didn't layer it all all, she basically gave me a mushroom cut bob and I've been wearing a baseball hat since she cut it! I told her that I like to wear my hair longer, layered and messy, so she gives me a smooth, chin level, mushroom cut! WTF! When I told her that I wasn't happy with the cut or styling, she added some texturizing to the ends, and then resmoothed out my mushroom and sent me on my way. She wouldn't even leave her station to walk me to the desk, she knew I was so displeased! Lovely way to treat customers! I'm so embarrassed, especially since I have a family wedding to attend in a couple of days. Even my teenage daughter told me it looks like someone cut a bowl on my head! I was apprehensive about coming to this salon at first but I am so glad I did. I had been going to the same salon for the past six years and since my move to the suburbs I had been driving an hour to get my hair done. Needless to say my stylist moved and I tried a lot of other disaterous salons and stylists until I found Lizette last month. My hair has NEVER looked this good and I have gotten so many compliments every time I leave the salon. I have a lot of hair to work with and Lizette is quick and efficient. The salon itself is very clean, modern, and professional. I treated myself to a massage the other week and it was amazing. I especially love I have always been taken in right at my appointment time and not a second later and that the salon constantly has promotions and sales going on that they email out. This place has really gone downhill and has become pretty dingy. If you are looking for a "spa" like atmosphere to receive a massage, I would not choose this salon... look elsewhere. I received a massage here a few weeks back and I was really disappointed with the cleanliness of the salon. The robes are dingy and practically falling apart, and they reuse their sandals. The masseuse did a great job, but their heater fan will continue to go on an off, which really takes away from the music playing to enhance the massage. Again, if you are looking for a place to relieve tension, then it may be an okay place to go. But don't go in thinking this is anything better than going to Massage Envy. read more

I've been a very loyal customer of this salon. I went there for haircuts and massages. The massages are great- no complaints. However, my haircut story- let me preface with I am not a picky person but if I'm spending 50 dollars on a hair cut I want it done right. I went to see someone different than my usual. I told her to cut all my split ends, and this I showed her a picture of what I wanted. I added I don't care if you cut more than the picture, I just want to see no split ends. She cuts my hair, which took all of 10 mins. My hair looked no different. I still had my spilt ends. I didn't want to be disrespectful so I called when I got home asking if I can get some type of refund because I was unhappy with a hair. Answer was yes- but you need to see the same person who cut your hair. My question to respond back to that was: why would I see someone who I didn't like cut my hair again? She said if you want to see someone else it would be full price. That's when I said, "good bye." I would only return back for a massage. read more

I called the salon and easily made my appointment for a few days later for an ombré dye. They were told how long my hair was and that I was a brunette and told me the price for it would be $85 to $115 depending on the stylist and that they would consider it as a partial. When I went to the salon I was rudely greeted by one of the receptionists. She gave me sass as soon as I walked in and made me feel very uncomfortable. My stylist however was very nice, no complaints about her treatment. When my hair was finished it wasn't exactly what I had in mind but at the salon it looked alright (the stylist didn't even show me the back of it, however). I get the the register and they tell me it's going to be $175. I asked why and they said because I got a full done, which if anyone who knows what ombre is, its no where near a full if done correctly. I started complaining to them telling them the price on the phone that I was told and the receptionist I was dealing with this time basically called me a liar when I said I told them how long and what color my hair was. After a while they finally just took the toner off and brought the price down about $30. When I got home and looked at it better I realized how bad of a job the stylist did. Ombre is supposed to have a gradient from your natural color to the lighter or darker color and mine just looked like god awfully colored high lights that had just grown out a bit. Because of the bad experience I had there I refused to go back there to get it fixed and instead got it done at a cosmetology school and they made it what it was supposed be (shocker considering I went to a SCHOOL for crying out loud). I e-mailed and called the salon several times to see if anything could be done for me and the owner NEVER got back to me. Terrible service. Snotty, stuck up workers. Will never go back here and would not recommend this place to anyone. read more
