So I absolutely love Salon Dacota. I have been going there for quite a long time. Love the people that work there. Great atmosphere. Great products for hair. If you are just going to get your hair cut, they will do an excellent job. My sister also gets her hair dyed here all the time and leaves perfectly satisfied. Unfortunately, what I would NOT recommend is coming to get a balayage treatment done. I have never dyed my hair in the past and decided to do something different for a change. Having coming from Manhattan, I was intent on trying something different for $200 as opposed to $500. I figured with balayag being a very trendy style right now, the stylist had to have a ton of practice. After all, It is pretty hard to mess up -- especially when I show you a picture before hand. When I came in, I was completely brunette. And when I left I did not have a balayage (where my brown hair would gradually turn into blonde) but on the contrary, I was completely blonde with dark roots. Really not at all like a balayage. In fairness, my hair is extremely long. And thick. The appointment itself took 3 hours. I feel that the error came from both lack of experience and also management of time. We ran 30 minutes over into the next client's appointment (poor thing) and I felt like it was a rushed job. She didn't end up actually styling my hair because she ran out of time. I suppose a little of this is on me because I should have ensured she REALLY LOOKED at the picture. I was like here's the picture. She very quickly relied "oh I totally got it! I can do that" This was several months back and the reason I write about it now is because I now am having to pay almost $500 for a color correcting and CORRECT balayage. Moral of the Story: salon dacota is great. Just not for balayage. If you are wanting to do that, splurge and go somewhere that specializes otherwise you may end up paying more. I was heading out to a wedding in Chicago and needed to get my eyebrows done stat. I have always noticed this Salon that was a few doors down from my tanning salon that I frequent and decided to run in and get them waxed. This place is so cute and charming. I was introduced to Bobbi who was a really cool guy. He did an AMAZING job. He took his time and made sure that everything was even and perfect. I have had people that have had the wax too hot and ended up burning me or they would botch the job, but not here. The plus side is I was able to get right in without an appointment! Sometimes I wait a long time to get a cut so I can save up $$$$ and treat myself. And it had been awhile since I saved up for a good cut. While in town from Chicago visiting family in St. Louis, I decided to find a salon to tame my mangy locks. At Salon Dacota, I found the $$$$ range service at $$ prices, and I was super pleased. (Thanks, mom!) First off, the very attractive and stylish woman at the front desk told me I could not schedule an appointment for the day, as they were booked and I was a walk in at 11am on a Friday morning. But wait! While I was waiting, there was cancelation with Terry, and I get an immediate appointment! And a very delicious cup of spicy herbal tea. It was meant to be. Next I was treated to a special hand soak, gloves and an incredibly relaxing hair wash in a small room with night blue walls and Chinese lanterns. A relaxing look for a small space that I mentally made note to incorporate into my apartment. My stylist, Terry, was gorgeous and proved to be an artist with hair. I am growing out my mine- and it grows very slowly- so I am always wanting the cut to be a good shaper with minimal length removed that will last me another 5 months. I am also a product snob but unfortunately have champagne taste with a cheap beer budget. But I like my products to be of superior, organic quality because these products are being absorbed into my scalp. Salon Dacota uses superior, high quality products- Eufora and Davines- which are out of my price range, but last fall I splurged on some Davines. These products last and my next spurlge will be on Eufora (or both, because I saved on my cut?) I might just start getting my haircut every time I come back to The Lou on a family weekend. This is the first time I go to Salon Dacota and the experience is beyond my expectation. My hair stylist is Jesse, she is very nice and talented. I always hear long hair and finally decide to give it a change to cut it short. But I am a little bit nervous about the change, the haircut turns out wonderful and I really love it. I have been going to Salon Dacota for the past few years and have never left feeling anything short of amazing! I primarily see Valla--who is talented beyond words! She always listens to what I want and makes it happen in the most flattering way. I trust her to the point that if I am in a hair funk, I let her do what she wants. As usual, I walk out looking amazing. I have seen several other stylists for hair and make up for special occasions. They have all gone above and beyond and made me look amazing. I get so many compliments on their work. I also want to speak to the integrity of the salon. The customer service has always been stellar. Every stylist I have seen has listened to what I want. The thing that sets them apart is that they make suggestions that will only compliment my face shape and skin tone. They want the client to leave feeling beautiful on the inside as well as the outside. I have always been a "salon hopper". I would like a cut or color from one place but then the next time not be as happy. I have never had the consistant results and happiness until I found Salon Dacota. I Went to this salon for extensions and root color. Was great at first. Then I went back for a touch up. My roots were MAYBE a shade lighter than what I went in with. I went back a few days later to have my roots lightened more. When I called about the roots issue I was told that would be around $20.00. There were a few foils put in that didnt even go all the way to the top of the root. After the color was washed out I was dismissed from my appointment. With soaking wet hair. For this I was charged $90.00. Yes you read that right. I was soaked, shocked and speechless. I found out later I was charged for the longest extensions possible when the stylist cut corners and ordered some pieces that were shorter pieces at the longer hair prices. Did I mention the receptionist is totally rude? I have never felt so ripped off in my life! read more

I've enjoyed my hair cuts here in the past, thanks to Nicole. I have nothing but praise for her. My issue is that I splurged and got a hair straightening treatment done by another stylist in the salon. In all, it cost over $500 with the additional products purchased and tip. Imagine my surprise that my hair was frizzing and curling again within three days. I called the salon and discussed the problem to which I was told to expect a call back. I decided to change stylists after having gone to the same person for about 10 years. I used to always walk away thrilled with my hair. But over the past year or so, it just isn't working anymore for whatever reason. After a year's worth of unhappy results, I decided to look for another salon, especially since I am moving to the Ballwin area soon. My first visit at Salon Dacota was a little over a month ago and I saw Libby. She was very nice and took time to listen to me and gain an understanding of what I wanted my hair to look like. I drove to St. Louis from Northern KY and needed a stylist in a bad way. I had gone to an upscale salon the day before in Crestview Hills, KY but unfortunately the cut just wasn't something I could live with. My stylist at Salon Dacota was Danielle and she was amazing. Fantastic! I've held off on writing this review, living with my new cut and color for a few weeks. I wanted to be sure I still loved it after styling myself on rushed workday mornings. And I do!!!!! After tiring of Ginger Bay, I went in to the salon for the first time a hoping for a new look. I have long hair, and typically style it with a curling wand or blown out. I chatted with Valla about my needs and habits. I was willing to go for bangs a more expensive treatment, but she steered me towards full foil highlights and a freshened up cut. She was right!! For the past five years Valla has done an outstanding job with my hair extensions. For even longer than that she has been doing a superb job with my hair color. I don't have easy hair to work with; it's very fine and it is thin on the sides, however Valla has managed to make me feel beautiful every time I leave the salon. The salon is very clean and professional. The stylists all appeared very young to me though which makes me uncomfortable with their experience level. I went there because they have very good reviews. I left very disappointed. I requested highlights and a reddish lowlight and I wanted a new hairstyle. I explained my past salon mishaps to her and asked for her suggestions/recommendations on how to style my hair.The color turned out nice but VERYsubtle and the stylist did not give me a new style at all. She trimmed a few inches off and that was all. When I told her that I was unhappy and wanted more done than that she offered to take off another inch or two. I really enjoyed my experience at Salon Dacota. I have had bad luck with my haircuts recently, and after looking at numerous salons in the area, I decided to go to this one. Libby cut my hair, and it was one of the best haircuts I have had. I had issues with blending and choppy layers, and Libby fixed it all and made my hair look absolutely amazing. I've never gone to the same salon twice in my entire life. But that has changed. I was recommended to Salon Dacota by a friend and decided to give it a try. My stylist, Libby, actually listened to what I wanted and made sure I knew the price of everything I was getting done so there were no surprises. I was nervous going extra blonde, but she did a phenomenal job. Even the hair washing part was amazing, I literally got like a six minute head massage as she shampooed and conditioned my hair.
