I can't say enough about Michael and his salon. He is very talented and has incredibly reasonable rates. I have been looking for a hairdresser since 2001 and I have finally found him! I have wavy thin hair and he is the first one to add layers that work. I usually have puffs of hair popping out in odd spots, but it falls so much better now and just looks so much neater. My 8 year old's hair was really long and she went in dreading the cutting process. After speaking to Michael just for a few minutes, she decided to go shoulder length, and it looks fantastic. He was so good with the kids, not overly chatty like some, but very friendly and comforting in his mannerisms. Even my shy 4 year old was quick to warm up to him and sat still and let him cut her hair without sitting on my lap. (The first time ever!) The salon is well laid out, there is a spot for kids, a spot for simple hair cuts and a back area with sinks and everything for coloring and processing. The spot for kids is perfect. The location is great. Street parking only but there are plenty of spaces because it's a side street off of Broadway. Next to Starbucks, so you can get your caffeine fix while you wait. :) read more

Being disappointed with the new trendy barbershops in town, due to their inability to be efficient to just cut hair as I found them to be chatting amongst them selves and leaving me waiting or sitting in the chair way too long and left being undone. After moving to New Jersey and my old hairstylists hours weren't compatible with mine, the search for a new stylist began! After looking on Yelp and reading reviews, I found Salon de Colores and decided to try them out! I was able to call and make an appointment the same day! I had gotten a botched hair cut and needed someone to fix it. I walked into Salon de Colores and was quickly taken by Cristiane. She talked me through how she was going to correct my haircut and made me feel comfortable with what she was going to do. My hair came out GREAT! She easily fixed my uneven haircut within an hr and I was very happy!!! I knew at that point in time I would be back for another haircut, but also wanted to try some color! Made an appointment again with Cristiane and she helped me choose a fall color highlight that would go with my hair. Which was something new for me because I don't change often, and I again felt comfortable with her suggestions and took the plunge! My hair came out fantastic and I will definitely be recommending this place to friends. I also got a hair cut which was awesome. They always gave me advice on what would look good for my face shape when I would change hairstyles and always listened carefully to what I wanted. I have always been satisfied when leaving. I tried this place based on the yelp reviews, as i was looking for a new salon that was affordable but delivered great results. Michael, who i realize now is the owner, colored and cut my hair just perfectly! he knew what kind of cut would work best on my short thin hair, and the color he achieved was EXACTLY what i've been looking for!! i had gone to 3 other salons in the area who never quite got the color right even when i showed them pictures and explained what i wanted, but Michael got it right! I am one of those people who gets frustrated that her hair is not what she wishes it was, but after my cut and color from Michael, I am actually looking forward to my next visit! PS the place looks unassuming and is not as fancy as other (more expensive) salons, but don't let that worry you - the salon is clean, the people are nice and attentive, and obviously skilled! :) read more

This was the first time I can remember that I walked into a salon, asked for a certain color in my hair (in this case, my roots and a just a little lift to the overall color) and got those exact results with no fuss or problem. Usually my hair is dyed several times for the colorist to find the formula that will work. Several times I have walked out with brassy hair, yellow hair, overly ashy hair, etc. This time, Michael just took one look at my natural color and my preferred color and made it work. It's was quick and efficient and he clearly knows what he's doing. He was friendly and personable and it was a perfect experience. And when I asked for the tiniest trim (for split ends but retaining the length), he listened and only took the minimal amount off that was needed. He ever wrote down the exact forumal and ratio he used to achieve my color so I could show it to future salons. No need, I found my preferred salon! read more

I read a lot of reviews on yelp and thought, is this to good to be true? I looked around though and no place had consistent reviews like Salon De Colores. I decided what the heck I do not have a hair stylist right now because, I have not loved any haircut since my stylist moved to Miami (depressing). I walked in a young lady said Michelle? I said yes and she already knew she was taking care of me. Little things like that matter to me and show me that they actually are paying attention and I am not just another number, they knew my name and it was my first time there. She washed my hair, i showed her a picture of exactly what i wanted she looked at it asked me a couple of questions and continued. She cut my hair and I love how my hair looks. The girl who cut my hair was Cristiane. She was super nice I am not very talkative but she still held a conversation which was nice. Good place to get haircuts for decent prices. I've been getting my haircut here for the past few months and I've been happy with the results. I felt very comfortable getting my hair cut here. They really listen to what you want...maybe a little too much. I showed a picture of what I wanted and I got exactly what I wanted. However, with my round face I should've kept it a little longer. They also take their time in cutting your hair, which I really appreciate. Definitely recommend this place. read more

I have been getting my hair cut by Mike since I was 17 years old and in high school. He cut my hair while I was in the Coast guard and needed crew cuts, back in the late 80's and has been cutting my hair ever since, I am now 45 years old. Over the years I have gotten my hair cut at other places a few times and within a week I don't like it, somehow when Mike cuts it, my hair grows in perfectly and I don't need to go back for another cut for at least 5-6 weeks. My 16 yr old daughter also loves having Mike cut and shape her hair, even though her friends have brought her to expensive salons, she never gets the results that she gets when Mike does it, so now she won't let anyone else touch her hair. There are very few people who have known me for as long as Mike has. He has exclusively cut my hair since I was a baby and even before he was in Hillsdale. Sometimes I think my family moved just to be closer to his new location. My body has gone through tons of changes, and so has my fashion sense, and some I have loved and some I have hated, but the one constant has always been that I have always loved how my hair looked. Many times I have left my fate in his skilled hands and loved what he has come up with. If I do ever have a specific preference, within a few instructions he knows exactly what I am hoping to have done. He is truly a master proficient in his craft. While I have only ever had Mike, from what I have observed and heard while at the salon, the rest of his staff are always attentive, friendly, and highly professional. Anyone who has walked through these doors can readily attest to the high standards held by every member of Salon de Colores. I have also always been impressed with Mike's involvement in the community. He is a teacher to future stylists and a while back, donated hair cut at the salon for a relief program. While knowing your skilled and dedicated stylist is also a humanitarian may not help with deciding his reputation and craft, it certainly can't hurt to mention also, right? read more

I went for a cut and blow. I was taken on time which was great. Cristiane was the one to cut my hair. We talked about styles and length. I mentioned that I wanted a trim and I'd come back every few months for trims. She asked if I wanted my hair to have a v shape ( with layers) or rounded and we agreed on rounded. She cut my hair and blew it out. I was there for about 1.5 hours altogether ( a bit longer than I'm use to) but it was great that she didn't rush it. My hair cut is really cute BUT I wasn't expecting it to be as short as it is.. I was definitely disappointed with the length. It wasn't what I was expecting. The blow out was good considering she didn't use a flat iron but the roots still had a wave that made it poof a bit. All in all it was a good experience. Next time ill have to be more specific about the length and maybe ask to touch up with a flat iron! read more

I love it here!!! My mom is a regular client at Salon De Colores and since the beginning has been raving about the salon. I recently had an appointment with Michael, the owner. I had the light keratin treatment done and my hair looks amazing!! The process is very easy as I was only there for about an hour, including a haircut. You are able to wash your hair in 24 hours, can put it behind your ears, or in a pony tail. After washing it out the next day my hair was smooth, frizz-free, and super shiny!
