My family has been going to Salon Ara for the past couple of years and we couldn't be happier with the service and the pricing. Below are the services we have gotten so far: Mom - cut, color, magic straightening, and keratin Son - cut and perm Daughter - cut and digital perm Both my kiddos have gotten SO many compliments on their hair and so many friends have asked where we get their hair done! So, we have recommended a lot of people to Salon Ara and they are all very satisfied. I get my hair done by Kay and my kids get their hair done by Hannah. She's young and speaks fluent English, so my kids are able to communicate with her which is really convenient. Highly recommended. read more

Over priced, I walked in for simple half inch haircut and pic of how i wanted highlights around my bang area , was charged 200 , they barely touched my hair!! Didn't even look like i got a haircut or highlights. With medium set highlights wanted charge 500 plus . Not worth it ! Go get your month worth somewhere else!! read more

I have been going for two years and I won't go anywhere else! I only speak English so Hannah is my hairstylist and she knows me well. Before my wedding she added keratin for extra shine and advised a root perm plus the waves starting at my chin instead of the root for easy styling on the day-of. During the neutralization of the chemicals, she gave me a heating pad because she knows I get cold when it touches my scalp :) Digital perm: I have medium to thick, straight hair and it takes on average 4.5-5 hours for a digital perm, wash, and hair cut no matter the length. I've done a bob all the way to waist length. The largest barrel gives a natural wave and it looks better when I air dry. Price: it's changed every time I've gone for the same thing- $185, $216, $312, and $375. If you can afford, it's worth it every time. I only get a refresh every six months and, with the largest barrel, I can grow it out without concerns for the look of lacking perm upkeep. My husband got a men's cut for $65, but his hair is below the armpit and it makes sense he would be charged more than the menu. Summary: high-end, but worth it! read more

From the start, extremely friendly! There was some miscommunication regarding my appointment time but they were extremely patient with the situation. During the haircut, there was friendly conversations and they gave me extremely good advice for my wavy/poofy/thick(er) Korean hair. Haircut came out to be $40 for short hair male cut which I believed to be pretty standard! Scheduled my next appointment prior to leaving and overall extremely satisfied! read more

Had my first visit to Salon Ara today. Hannah gave me a wonderful hair cut - taking my shapeless head of hair to a beautiful layered cut. This was one of the fastest, no frills (in a good way) hair cut I've ever gotten. Prices were reasonable. Very happy with my results! read more

I asked for very loose and wavey digital perm that's super popular in Korea! I had stick straight hair before & was a little too scared to try a tighter curl. Pics show my hair when it's still slightly damp and NOT even styled - I imagine it'd look even better if I had used a diffuser and some texture cream. I got exactly what I asked for, a natural beachy wave that makes me feel and look effortless. Obviously a little damage is to be expected with any perm, but they did their best to minimize that by using a keratin treatment. My hair still feels soft and healthy. Highly recommend! read more

Having recently moved to the SoCal area, I had high hopes for Salon Ara due to the reviews I saw on Google. It's unfortunate that my visit did not reflect the reviews that I had read up on. I'm normally not the type to leave negative reviews as I enjoy only leaving positive ones. However, the end result of my men's haircut was extremely unsatisfactory, especially given the $40 charge. Before beginning, I showed a picture of what I wanted to the stylist. The length of my hair was way too short to resemble the picture that I had shown in the picture and the stylist was styling my hair as best she could with the very short front hair that remained, albeit she was styling it in quite some peculiar manners which I think may be in part because the end result just turned out bad. However, the fact that the style of my hair was not what I had asked for was not my biggest gripe. I've had haircuts before where it turns out differently than what I had asked for and usually I will just suck it up and try to style it as best I can when I get home. What truly prompted me to write this review was the lack of quality in my cut that I am noticing as I take a closer look at my hair. The fade on the sides are not uniform and look a bit patchy and even the edges of the fade on my sideburns are not clean but instead have an area of very light amount of hair - I am unsure why this was left as it's pretty standard to clean up the sideburns and to give it a clear edge. And as I have put my hair down as close as I could to the style I had asked for originally, I am finding long strands of hair that are significantly longer than the hair in that same area, so much so that I have had to take scissors at home and cut it myself. I understand that though frustrating for the customer, sometimes the style of the haircut does not come out as they had asked for (although in this case, the stylist went so short I'm not sure what they were trying to do). But again, for a $40 cut with tip, the fact that the stylist could not execute things that are quite standard has led me to leave this review of my very subpar experience at Salon Ara. Because there were multiple hair stylists at the salon, I can not speak for the salon as a whole. However, I hope that the stylist that worked on my hair will take this feedback to improve on their skills and to be mindful of some basic things in a haircut. I will not be returning back to Salon Ara as I do believe that the hired stylists should reflect the salon's standard of excellence in their work. read more

My high school daughter got her haircut by Julie. This was my first visit to this place. My stylist is skilled and professional. My daughter absolutely loves her new haircut. The salon has spacious parking area. The place has positively uplifting atmosphere. Overall, excellent quality of haircut, friendly service, and reasonably kind price. I will visit Salon Ara for myself in near future! read more

My scalp is usually sensitive, but the perm solution must be really good because I had no issues with my skin, and the perm turned out amazing. The place was very clean, and the staff were so friendly -- I'll definitely be coming back again! read more

*update**06/08/2023* My hair is growing much faster, without split ends, than when I got my haircut from other places. Since my first review, I've cut my hair once more to fix the effed up job the other salon lady did (yes, once wasn't enough to fix). This is how you know you have found the right one - a true hidden gem. You're welcome read more

They pay very close attention to detail and constantly ask to make sure that I'm satisfied as they cut my hair. Be clear in the style you're looking for and they'll take very good care of you. The haircuts are worth every penny. 매번 섬세하고 꼼꼼하게 커트 해주시고 자주 제가 맘에 드는지 물어보시면서 잘 케어 해주십니다. 직접 와보시면 아실거예요. 강력 추천! read more

I went to have a trim and a straight cut and ended up with a really short hair and layers on the back that are uneven. Definitely a language barrier, the hairstylist did not understand my request and chopped my hair. Here a go one more year for my hair to grow long again. Very disappointed! read more

Great service and such a wonderful haircut. My mom loves coming to this place. It's a hidden gem with great service! I'd go back every time!

Kay and Hannah are awesome. These ladies make you feel comfortable. The place is clean and neat.

The owner- Kay was awesome! She totally understand what I wanted perfectly, actually she know better than me. Totally recommended.

got a haircut a couple days ago and it's now my go-to for haircuts! i think hanah was my stylist and she did such a good job. she was very good about asking for pictures of what i wanted my hair to look like and how i wanted exactly. the main thing that i wanted to do was to make my curtain bangs more wispy and trim off my dead ends and hanah executed it perfectly. i also wanted a bang perm that i had seen on tiktok to give them more volume and a curl and it still looks good today. the prices are especially good for orange county; i have long hair so a haircut was $55 and the bang perm was only $10. highly recommend! read more

Kay is great at doing ashy hair. I don't like brassy tones or highlights, I like when its muted and neutralized. If you show her a picture and be specific with what you want, she can do it for you. Always comes out great. read more

Thanks Hannah! Had a lovely experience with my haircut. She did a great job.

Horrible. I came in for a money piece, i wanted Carmel brown with gold highlight. Came out with orange uneven hair color, I had it brownish black but thats why I asked if it could be achieved and she said yes. I would not have paid 130 for orange hair and not even a lot of hair this was like 2 strands of hair. My mom got hers done too and they messed up, didn't even try. She got highlights half way not even full. They treated almost like they didn't want to service us. And holy crap 180 to dye hair? Plus another 130 for bleach? Wtf? I came out with orange hair in tears. I still tipped her 10 because that's just me. Don't go there for highlights. They don't know anything about hair coloring. Wish I would have stumbled upon a different salon. read more

I visited this salon regarding to my friend's recommendation. This salon is kind of new salon with Korean staffs. Yesterday I got my hair bleaching for first time. Hair damage wasn't that bad, and they were very friendly and professional :) i really recommend here :) I will come back when my root needs to be cover up! Very satisfied! read more

The thing about hair salons is that you want to build a rapport. It's more than a simple cutting of hair or shaving of heads... it's a relationship. The longer you stick to a place, you begin to development a bond with your hair stylist - you develop your own lingo of how to describe things so that you can always get what you really want - even when you want to drastically change your style. It is this relationship, consistency,m that will ultimately get you to what people say about a good haircut: you don't even notice you got one. And I've found my place with Salon Ara. Tucked away behind a Burger King, I've been going to my main lady Kay for almost 2.5 years, basically since moving to Tustin. And she has my style down like a science. I don't event have to say anything unless I want to change something. Plus at $20 a haircut, this is perfect blend of quality and affordability. Some people say $20 is expensive - I'm sorry, you can stick to your #2 full fade at Supercut if you want, but if you want this kind of rapport, it'll cost you more. And $20 is a good deal. Tip: don't get confused with the salon next door. Make sure you go to the one on the left next to the laundromat. The other one (from what I hear) pulled some shady move to position themselves there. Go here for your next haircut.. cuz everything's gonna be Ara...ight. read more

This review is long overdue ! The hairstylist Yeoni did my hair cut several times. She did a great job. One of the best thing about Korean hair salon is that they shampoo your hair prior to cutting and do style after the hair cut. Yeoni accomodate me after hour twice. Thank you very much! read more

This place has become my go-to since the very first visit! I've been to so many different locations in my 30 years of living in Orange County, and Salon Ara is definitely the most skilled. I get everything done through Hanah, excellent customer service and most skilled stylist I've seen. Despite her young age, she is always kept up with the trends and knows what she is doing. I strongly recommend Hanah, you will be proud of your decision! read more

I was having difficulty finding a good Korean salon around. Frankly, the korean salons I've been in Irvine area hasn't been that satisfactory. I looked at these Yelp ratings and decided to give this place a try. I made my appointment for 11 and showed up 10 mins early because I hate making people wait. By 11:20 I realized that there are only two people working and more customers than workers. I was feeling annoyed because what's the point in making an appt if you aren't seen on time. I spoke English the whole time so I guess they thought I didn't understand Korean. The owner talked about me to the other worker in korean by mockingly saying that I was upset. " ". So I busted out my perfect korean and responded with a resounding yes! I am annoyed! She then tried to convince me that my appt was 30 mins later! I walked out Dont go to this place. They are rude and won't take you on time... you've been warned. read more

Loved my haircut here - it was $35 (without tip) for a women's cut! You must make an appointment before going in. The two ladies quickly and efficiently washed my hair, cut it, and styled it. I speak a little bit of Korean so it was easier for me to communicate the style that I want - this may be a factor as to whether or not you want to get a haircut here. Will be coming back soon when I need another haircut! read more

Kay is wonderful!! I've been bringing my 4 kids to see her for almost a year. I decided to give her a try myself and loved the cut! My bangs look good and when I told her I wanted a trim she didn't cut too much of the length. She even offered to curl it for me. She knew I had an event the next day so she intentionally curled it tight so it would hold until tomorrow. She really listens to her clients and I'm super happy!! Very reasonable as well. I will refer all of my friends and family! read more

Found this place after a brief search. It's clean, neat and the stylists are so nice. They keep their appointments and they never overbook. I found Hanah to be extremely polite, friendly, and caring. She did exactly what I wanted in a cut. I also don't like feeling pressured to dye my hair and Hanah has been most wonderful, I've even brought my mom to see her. I highly recommend her and this salon to anyone looking for a nice, clean, friendly place to get a wonderful hair cut and styling. Super happy to call this place my new salon! read more
