I moved to the Stamford/Greenwich area two years ago and I am so particular about my hair that I would drive all the way to Ridgefield just to get my hair cut at Adam Broderick's. I woke up feeling impulsive Saturday morning and had to get my hair cut and colored. I called a few salons in the areas and they couldn't fit me in for a cut and color, it was one or the other, me being the brat that I am wanted to get both done. I called Salon 221 and due to a cancellation they were able to fit me in for a cut and color so I was pretty happy before I even walked into the salon. I have very thick and dark Asian hair. Every time I get it dyed, it's never comes out the color I was hoping for. I showed Betsy a picture of the color I wanted and expected her to be like "nah girl, we can't do that in one session," but to my surprise she worked her magic and made it happen. I've never been happier with the results and the service. I'm so glad I found a new salon closer to home and I don't have to drive all the way to Ridgefield again for a hair (Shannon at AB, I will miss you dearly but it's time we part ways.) I visited the salon to see Betsy after having her highly recommended by a friend. My hair has been damaged through years of bleach, but I didn't want to lose either the length or the color. Betsy was able to advise on a look which made my hair healthier, but also kept the length and the light color I love. The end result is fantastic and much more manageable than what I had previously. Everyone at the salon is fantastic and makes you feel at home!! Betsy now also does my mom's hair and my son's hair. I can't send enough people to her and I can't say enough great things. I have to say- never in almost 25 years of getting my hair colored have I ever had such a strange and unprofessional consultation with a colorist. My hair is pretty simple, need a bit darker root coverage for dimension and maybe a few highlights. This young woman, probably new to the profession, kept telling me the base she could do would turn my hair "orange". She told me, "It will look good when you walk out of here, but after a few washes, it will turn orange..." She just couldn't grasp the simplicity of what I wanted--- root coverage for dimension and maybe a few highlights. The manager needs to help this girl and model appropriate consult strategies, one that doesn't have the customer running for the door. Horrible attitude and disposition. Word to the wise--- NEVER tell a blonde that you might turn their hair orange. I've never had orange hair after years of base coloring. You need to brush up your practices. I dodged a bullet.... Please look at the pic on another Yelp review of the result I got from that same day after going to another salon. Apparently, they were able to get my "vision" and my hair looks amazing! Wow, thank you April for my wonderful lashes! I visited Salon 221 for a lash fill after contacting the owner Jody who made her business available to me on their day off, Sunday, so I could get a fill before leaving for vacation Monday morning. April met me at the salon and after a consultation she began to apply my lashes. After she was done and I opened my eyes, my lashes were gorgeous! I initially got my lashes done at a different place and was not happy with the result, so I did not want to return for a fill there. First off, I'm a redhead - and redheads who want vibrant, lasting color READ ON!! The salon itself is small but clean and just trendy enough. They have coffee and magazines so really I can't ask for anything else. If you're looking for an over the top, obnoxiously fancy and trendy establishment, go elsewhere. Also, they only accept cash or check so be prepared. I'm just looking for a good hair stylist, so here is my review. Finally. I went to see Betsy at Salon 221 only once, but I'm already hooked. They use Joico hair color here, which is second to none (in my opinion) when it comes to reds. All I had to do was give Betsy a few thoughts on what I wanted and she didn't disappoint. She took her time, applied color to the roots using the brush technique, let me sit, then meticulously pulled through to every strands' end. She asked me if I had time, and I did, so she rinsed the color off (which was a wonderful experience in and of itself) and applied a gloss at my ends and sat me under some heat for about 20 minutes. Betsy must have applied magic to my head, because I have about 36 different shades of red, highlights, lowlights brown roots and grays and #1 it was completely even #2 it has NOT faded since my visit 4 weeks ago and #3 it looked (and still looks) beautiful. I say magic, but to be serious, that's really called talent. The icing on the cake was the cut - I didn't want anything particularly fancy but she really did a great job. My hair is growing out beautifully, which, to me, is the real test. My long haired layers look good straight, wavy or super curly. And I have bangs - we all know how that can turn out. The cherry on the icing (?) is Betsy herself. She's really sweet, genuine and immediately sent me some coupons in the mail along with a holiday card. I chased down a great haircut on Greenwich Avenue one day, 3 years ago, to find its source. Joe at the Salon has cut, colored and keratin treated my hair ever since. The Salon is warm, calm, and well run. I have seen the results on other customers around me and they are all pleased. Prices are reasonable by Greenwich standards. read more

Excellent salon! I came here to get a color correction, hair cut, deep condition, the full treatment. Betsy worked miracles on this head of mine. She knows her stuff and cares for the integrity of her clients' hair! The salon appearance is sleek and well lit. The stylists also offer drinks (coffee, water, tea) and will frequently make sure you are comfortable throughout your service. The owner is a sweetheart and makes you feel right at home. Highly recommend Salon 221. Its located on the 2nd floor of the Cos Cob Mill Pond Shopping Center so its not visible from the street. All their business is word of mouth. I discovered Salon 221 when the owner of Colonial Imaging located on the ground floor looked stunning with her new hair style done by Betsy. I have had my hair blown out by Betsy and Nicole and they do a fabulous job! Jody, the salon owner is very helpful in accommodating last minute appointments. I got eyelash extensions here and would not recommend anyone do that. Gina was very nice and the process was relaxing, however, shortly after leaving the salon I noticed it was painful to blink and it seemed like the extensions were bad quality. They began to stick together shortly after getting them applied and seemed to have not been applied correctly or carefully enough, a couple even easily came off. It is less expensive to go here than many other places that offer eyelash extensions in the area, however, in retrospect I wish I had spent a little extra money to go somewhere with better quality extensions so that they both look good and feel good. read more

I love Salon 221! The salon is conveniently located in Cos Cob. Everyone is friendly and they always get you in when you need an appointment. The salon is cute and personal. The staff knows everyone and it's like visiting friends when you get your hair done. Joe has been cutting and coloring my hair for 25 years and I've never once been unhappy with the results. He is the best at what he does and I trust him completely to make me feel and look amazing! He's always improving his craft and staying current with products and trends. Exactly what I want in a salon: great service, great people--comfortable, cozy atmosphere, and not pretentious. Jody, the owner, has been cutting my hair since 1986 (okay, I admit it, we did some perming back then, too). She is lovely, she hires good people (good at their jobs and just plain good people), she goes the extra mile to take care of her customers. ONCE, in all these years, my cut didn't work for me--she recut it immediately at no charge. Everyone on staff is up on all the latest techniques and products. Not to mention that Jody is super active in the community and often donating services to various causes. No wonder the clients are so loyal! read more
