I was feeling pretty low about myself, and not very pretty. I thought if I bought some new makeup, I'd feel better about myself. Nope! Didn't work. I walked in. The front door was very heavy, and I was strugglibg to open it, because I'm weak due to my chemo. A bottled red head, all made up, cupie doll sat at the front ready to greet me with a smile. However, it never occurred to her to help me with the door. Once I stumbled in and fixed my headscarf, because my hair is falling out. She greeted me kindly and asked how she may help me? My brain was thinking, "Opening the door would have been helpful" but instead I smiled back, and asked for MAC makeup. She can back with, "Oh sorry hun, we don't sell MAC" I told her that I just read an article in The NY Times where they announced Sephora was now selling MAC" She said, Nope! Sorry hun! Yes, she called a 55 year old women hun. Extremely inappropriate for a girl her age. I do not think hun, baby, doll, any of those types of greeting are appropriate for anyone, at any age. Her smile was obnoxious and she said nothing more after that. She stood there like she expected me to walk away. So I did just that. Turned and walked straight out the door. That was that. No, How about I show you what we have that is comparable? I would have been fine with an alternative option. But the girl was not bright enough to turn it into a sale. She probably even thought she did he job well. So I left, went to Ulta and dropped Over 500.00 there on all new makeup. Not all of it was MAC. But the girls at Ulta were incredible. Helpful, nonjudgmental. They were not made up like Cupie dolls, like in Sephora. They had a more mature, classic look to their makeup. Sephora might be for kids, but I have 6 daughters and 10 granddaughters that will be getting Ulta gift cards from now on, instead of Sephora. What was it, that Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman. I'm not too picky on what brands I use.  Pretty much anything they have in the store is great.  I stock up on shampoos and conditioners when the liters are on sale.  And I always find hairspray, or mousse, or some other styling product that's on sale while I'm there, so I get those, too.  Biosilk, Tigi and Bain de Terre are some of my favorites. This location seems to have the best specials. And they have nail polish, lotions, tanning lotions, brushes, and lots of other fun stuff. You do need a cosmetology license to shop here.  But if you have a friend with one, you can go in with them. :)

When I do go inside, it's hit or miss in terms of what's available. I've ordered a few things online for in-store pickup. The staff was friendly, but having to show ID to collect your items felt a bit odd, though I understand it's their policy. Once your order is ready, you'll receive an email with a QR code that needs to be scanned at pickup. I've heard they're opening a new location in Pittsford Plaza, where Bed Bath & Beyond used to be, which is great news! This location has plenty of shared parking, so it's easy to navigate.

I informed them that I wouldn't be buying anything today, I was just looking. The employee responded by asking me if I was a cosmetoligist to which I responded no, I'm just here to compare a few items and get pricing. She responded by informing me that the prices are for distributors only anyway and reiterated I was not permitted to look around. Essentially, she was telling me to leave. My cosmetoligist comes to my home and told me to compare a few things I was interested in and then she would pick them up before our next appointment, but the staff at this location did not even give me the opportunity to say that. If members of the public are not welcome in their store, it should be clearly posted on the door (I have been to many beauty supply distributors where this is the case and specifically checked for any indication of that before entering). It was an awful experience and I will absolutely be making sure that when the items I need are purchased, it is not through this company.
