When we scheduled a virtual appointment, it was made for 9:30am and switched to 11:45am 15 minutes before original appointment. I've seen Dr. Bailey several times for a very pervasive, incredibly itchy rash that she diagnosed as psoriasis. I'd seen other doctors who weren't able to diagnosis it, so I greatly appreciated Dr. Bailey's thoroughness and acumen. Additionally, post diagnosis, she and her staff were incredibly helpful and persistent in working with my insurance company, and following rejections and appeals, ultimately, a drug manufacturer, to ensure I was prescribed a systemic medication that largely eliminated my symptoms. I'm tremendously appreciative, and would highly recommend Dr. Bailey. read more

Dr. Bailey and her staff are very nice when you are actually in the office. But the administrative staff are just terrible when it comes to sending in prescriptions and refilling prescriptions. I am so tired of doing this dance with them every month just to get my son's inhaler. They never answer the phone or call you back when you leave a message. I'm constantly getting texts from my pharmacy that the doctor's office doesn't respond to their requests for refills, etc. I finally talked to someone the other day who promised to send in the prescription but still has not done it! Dr. Bailey and her staff are excellent. I feel very comfortable with them managing my daughter's food allergies and asthma. Dr. Bailey is knowledgeable and thorough, and her staff, especially Rikita, are very kind and patient. Rikita went above and beyond to get paperwork signed for me within one business day so my little one could return to school in a timely manner. Additionally, I have had several telehealth appointments and never had an issue with the instructions being unclear. Telehealth has been easy to use and convenient for us. Overall, this is a competent and efficient practice, & the care we have received has been excellent. read more

I'm am so disgusted, disappointed, and frustrated by Dr. Joo Bailey and her unethical and commoditized approach to medicine. My child had been a patient of hers for years (over a decade), I was never a fan, but I was told she was an expert with regard to pediatric immunology. Recently my son had a significant allergic reaction, to what, we don't know, but it was terrifying and he ended up in the ER. As a follow up I made an appointment with Sally, only to be told I'd have to pay out of pocket- fine, that my child would be treated as a new patient (odd since he's been seeing her since he was a baby), and because he'd only been able to receive one vaccination so far (he just turned 12) that it would have to be a 30 minute tele visit. Regardless, I proceeded. The receptionist who made the appointment requested my email and said she would send paperwork that needed to be filled out. I never received the paperwork, but hours before the scheduled appointment I receive a voicemail telling me that because I didn't do a 15-minute patient intake (didn't know it was required or even requested) and send in the forms the appointment had been cancelled and I would be charged $50. Seriously?!? I checked my email, of course the forms had never been sent. I had my husband check him personal email, instead of sending the paperwork to me, as agreed when I made the appointment, they defaulted to what was in their system (kind refutes the whole he's a new patient scam). One, the specific requirements that were a condition to the appointment should have been clearly articled to me when I made the appointment- not sent in an email that I never received. Two, the level of arrogance, lack of concern or care for the patient, and flagrant lack of professionalism is befuddling, concerning, and unacceptable. I do not recommend her nor her practice. Finding great care for children with serious allergies is so important and you should be with a dr. that actually cares about their patients and does not treat medicine strictly as a business. Of note, dr. Joo Bailey your business is very poorly run. If I could give a negative star I would because doctors owe a duty of care to their patients and her behavior demonstrates a blatant disregard for her patients. She should be at a hedge fund, not running a medical practice. read more

I've been to three different allergy offices just in general with large time gaps in between each office. There were no particular reasons for me switching, but there were also no reasons for me to want to stay at one office. That is until I was referred to Dr. Sally Bailey by a friend for rashes/eczema that I started to develop. Normally someone would go to a dermatologist for that but I went with an allergist and I'm glad I did! I've done allergy tests before but because I'm a weirdo and a allergic to basically everything, nothing was ever really concrete until now. Dr. Bailey is patient, kind, and understanding. The staff and nurses are all also very nice! Unfortunately, it's hard to meet genuinely nice people who are willing to help in medical offices. People always seem to be impatient or rude and no one at this office is remotely like that. So that's very much appreciated! The only downside is like most medical buildings parking isn't free (only the first 30 minutes!) read more

The doctor and nurses were nice and the service wasn't bad. However, their billing office waited 180 days EXACTLY to file the claim with my insurance. My appointment was on March 2, 2018, and they sent me the bill in September 2018. I tried contacting their billing office multiple times from September-January 2018 via email and phone and was unsuccessful. I contacted my insurance and had them contact the office but they were also unsuccessful. Today, June 12, 2019, I received a call from billing stating that I need to pay my bill or they will send it to collections. Wendy, the billing manager, stated that they have tried contacting me multiple times which is not true. Please save your money and go somewhere else. Not worth the headache. read more

4.5 stars (I may bump to five once I've finished treatment) After moving back to virginia (from chicago), I slowly remembered all of the lovely things I was coming back to: cheaper parking, friendlier people and insane pollen counts. Several sinus infections later, I decided that perhaps seeing a real allergist might provide more benefit than just an internist. Enter Dr. Bailey. I chose Dr. Bailey because 1. my primary physician recommended her 2. my insurance covered her and 3. her offices are located on a hospital campus I've already had positive experiences with. If you do make an appt. as a new patient, be prepared for a wait. It took me two and a half months to get in. However, because she limits how many appointments she takes, your visit will actually start on time and you will get a lot of attention. The staff is also capable and friendly. I had the infamous scratch test (it's really not that bad) and then we devised a treatment plan. In addition to some free samples to treat me for the time being, I've also decided to start allergy shots. Shots are administered in the office at set times, but you can also take the serum with you to have them administered closer to home or work. Nothing but positive experiences so far... and I like telling people my allergist was rated the region's best by the Washingtonian. :) read more

Quite possibly one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a physician. I showed up to my first appointment in August 2014 without being told to avoid allergy medicines. I was charged $20 to wait in the lobby and then told to make an appointment for the following week. I came back and had the scratch test done but the technician did such crappy job that it was impossible to read the results. I was sent to the lab for a blood test instead. A few weeks later someone called and left a voicemail listing my allergies and told me to call for an appointment when I was ready to start immunology treatment. Three months later I received a call at work from the office stating that I owed over $250.00 for the scratch test that my insurance wouldn't cover. Unfortunately I paid it over the phone with my HSA card and didn't get a receipt. I received a verification request for my HSA card, and when I called the office to ask for it, they told me there was a $20 fee for any documentation. I also found out from my insurance company that the office never submitted a claim for the scratch test so it shouldn't have been that expensive to begin with. In February 2015 I was ready to begin the immunology treatment, so I called the office to make an appointment. I was told that I would need to have the scratch test redone because I waited too long. (I was not told previously of this time limitation). I made the appointment but told them I wanted the blood test only, no scratch test. Five days before the appointment I received a reminder call from the office. The lady said I had a scratch test scheduled and reminded me about not taking an allergy medicine. I told her I wanted the blood test and not the scratch test. I explained about the previous test experience I had, and she said I should be scheduled for either test to begin with, because all allergy test results are valid for one year. One positive note, when I saw Dr. Bailey she switched my allergy medication and it has helped tremendously. Unfortunately getting the office to respond to refill requests from my pharmacists is impossible. She may actually be a good doctor, but her office staff sucks. I found out recently that my dermatologist is actually an immunologist too, so I'm following up with her and dropping Dr. Bailey. I called Dr. Bailey's office to get a copy of my medical records faxed, and of course there is a $20 charge for that too. read more

The staff of nurses is incredibly kind and patient, and they always are available to reach by phone and email. I've been Dr. Bailey's patient for two years now. All of my life, I have been an indoor and outdoor allergy sufferer, almost year round. Until becoming a patient of Dr. Bailey's, I assumed that allergies would just be something I have to live with for the rest of my life. I was mistaken. Let me first say that I am a student of empirical data and only believe things when I see proof. At first, I was extremely skeptical that allergy tests would even work for me, and it's one of those things that you wouldn't know works until you've spent the time and money figuring it out. Allergy shots work. In two years, all of my allergies have either been reduced significantly or disappeared completely. I'm astonished. The results of my allergy testing prove it. I can directly thank Dr. Bailey and her team for this. They're incredibly courteous and welcoming. The entire team has exceptional bed side manner. Their process is thorough and extremely competent. They take the time to answer all of my questions (and I ask A LOT of questions). They're patient and knowledgeable. Every single of one of Dr. Bailey's technicians is highly qualified, and Dr. Bailey's knowledge and awareness of the latest science regarding allergies makes this team a force to be reckoned with. Pollen, dust, mold, and any other allergens should quake at the existence of such a magnificent group of medical professionals because frankly, they're outstanding at what they do. I've had severe spring allergies since college and finally went to see an allergist in 2010. I'm very glad I did, the allergy shots work amazingly well! This past spring was the first time in 15 years that I actually enjoyed the weather instead of staying inside to avoid the pollen; I'm usually snotting, red-eyed, and sneezing every 5 minutes but this year, I felt about 90% normal. Keeping my fingers crossed for 100% next year! The staff are very friendly and Dr. Bailey always says hello. Highly recommended! PS If you aren't a fan of kids, you should know that there are a lot of them at times and some can be quite boisterous during their appointments. If that annoys you, bring headphones! read more

Dr. Bailey has transformed our son's life! When his allergies were so bad as an infant, other doctor's basically sedated him and said to put socks on his hands as he ripped his hair from his itchy scalp. The moment we saw Dr. Bailey, she looked me right in the eye and said, "Mom, today we're going to get answers." And she delivered! That was 12 years ago and we've seen her twice a year ever since. Today my son has very well-controlled severe asthma and nut allergies, but thanks to Dr. Bailey, he understands how to care for his allergies, keep his lungs strong, avoid dangerous foods, and administer his own Epi pen should the need arise. We love Dr. Bailey. Does having an allergy kid mean a lot of paperwork? YES. Does working with a GREAT doctor mean waiting for appointments sometimes? YES. Are insurance companies difficult to deal with and sometimes limit your coverage of care and medicines? YES. But none of that changes the fact that Dr. Bailey is a world-class doctor and her staff is GREAT with kids of all ages, even the adult ones. Be patient. Dr. Bailey is worth the wait. Ok, I only visited Dr. Bailey because my primary care physician Dr. George insisted I don't have gluten sensitivity, but rather I have allergies. Ironically enough, she said the Celiac Disease test was expensive and my insurance may not cover it. She recommended I see an allergist, Dr. Bailey. Now I'm skeptical about my primary care physician since I had only visited her once and I'm wondering if she was just trying to hook up a friend. I called Dr. Bailey's office to schedule an appointment and they would not schedule an appointment without my giving them a credit card number although they confirmed they take my insurance. They said it was to cover the $30 appointment cancellation fee. It seemed reasonable to me although I was extremely uncomfortable giving out my credit card number over the phone to a complete stranger. I filled out all of my paperwork in advance and I arrived to the office 15 minutes early. Still the office had double booked my appointment. Another patient in the office began to tell me how horrible the office is and that she only comes because Dr. Bailey studied under a renowned Dr. at Johns Hopkins. I looked around the office lobby which is about the size of a single wide mobile home kitchen. The receptionist gave me some forms saying I'll cover the remainder of any additional fees. I signed the form, but I did not fill in my credit card number on that form although they asked for it. Still it didn't click in my head the office was preparing to debit my credit card with the number I gave in case of cancellation. Dr. Bailey was very pleasant, but her staff seemed miserable which should have been a clue. You can always judge an office by their staff. Attitude reflects leadership. I left the office none the wiser. She didn't discover anything. She gave me an eye drop sample which when ordered turned out to be $45 for the "same as the sample" size. It turns out I'm not allergic to anything. Prior to the appointment, over the phone, the receptionist told me they would test me for food allergies. I thought that to be very innovative. You mean you can really determine my food allergies based on an in office test? When I got there, they tested me for trees, plant, and air allergies. Why lie about the food allergy test? One month later, I received a bill for $166. Within five business days of receiving the bill , I called Care First to see why they didn't cover the entire amount. I noticed the bill was rather large for an office visit so I see why Care First kicked in my deductible. Dr. Bailey's office called me on Friday, the same day I called Care First but I missed their call and figured I'd call them back once I'd talked to Care First. THAT SAME DAY DR. BAILEY'S OFFICE DEBITED MY ACCOUNT THE PRICE OF THE BILL. This is within seven days of my receiving the statement (and five BUSINESS day); not 30 days. What's so inferiority is that I didn't authorize the deduction, and...to top all of that off, I had a check mailed out to drop in the box Monday; one business day since they called on Friday prior to recognize they had already snatched the money. I almost double paid them. With the way they do business, chances are I wouldn't have received a refund since they are clearly all about money. It's not the fact that I had to came out of pocket for the visit. It's the fact they knew it, planned their business practices so that I would, and didn't give me a heads up. Now I have to call the credit union and cancel my card in case they steal anymore money from me. Suppose you tell your kid you'll give them money for the movie. You don't give it to them fast enough so they take it. This is the same situation. Only they had already received 85% of the bill from my insurance company. So within the 7 days, of my receiving the bill, I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for them. Business in this country has gone to hell. Why should an office that looks like a mobile home charge $700 for a 15 minute consultation followed by a 10 minute skin test? Why not put money into your establishment to make it comfortable for your clients. Hence the reason, you require a credit card number upfront. You know the quality of your services. read more

Dr. Bailey's office started by not telling us to avoid allergy medicines prior to our first visit. She charged us the $30 and made us come back another time to allergy test my daughter where they charged us another $30. I'd be okay with all of this if she was actually good. Dr. Bailey told me my 7 yr old daughter had an allergy to tree pollen where her symptoms should only last through June. I did tell her we had dogs and we were told there was no allergy to dogs. When my daughter continued to sneeze through July & August, I called to try to come back in. We were told not to come in...it's not allergies. Go to your primary care doctor not them. We tried that where they put her on more meds. Finally I got a referral a month later when she still wasn't better to see DR. SOWERWINE. Her allergy tests showed tree pollen & grasses (which explained some of the summer allergies.) But she listened to me and sent my daughter in to have an additional blood draw to do an extra test for dogs even though the skin test showed she had no reaction to dogs. Her blood test showed she had a significant allergy to dogs. I would NEVER recommend anyone going to Dr. Bailey. Go to Dr. Sowerwine instead! read more

I was actually waiting to be seen at Dr. Bailey's office yesterday when you came in and your review of the office and the events yesterday are so NOT true!!! As you came in to the office and started to yell at the staff due to you being over 45 minutes late! They advised you that other patients as myself were already there waiting for their appointment and that they could reschedule you for another day! You continued to discuss your personal medical story as well as excuses as to why you were late and needed to be seen that day! I believe the front staff handled the situation in a positive manner and I actually was very pleased at how they tried to reschedule your appointment as you clearly were at fault. My experience with Dr. Bailey as well as her front and back staff was AMAZING yesterday! I had all of my questions answered and was seen in great time. I was diagnosed with asthma and allergies when I was eight years old. I have been to numerous pulmonologist, allergy specialist, etc and no one was resolving anything. I am now twenty four and my asthma and allergies are FINALLY controlled thanks to Dr.Bailey! The office staff are friendly, the nurse makes you feel comfortable when you are getting your allergy testing, and Dr.Bailey is EXTREMELY knowledgable. She told me that the medications that I had been using were not going to help me and switched me to an entirely different drug regiment that works! Thank god! It was really annoying to read Christine M's review (dated 9/14/2012). It is unclear why she took her son to see an allergist if she knew so much about allergies and her son's needs. She should be treating her child herself not take up an appointment space. It's true that it takes a while to get a new patient appt slot with Dr. Bailey. When asked, that's bc she's strict with number of appts she takes each day. This allows her to give more attention and time to her patients. I like that about this office. I want to update the status of my son. A new allergist took the time to properly test and evaluate my son and discovered a number of additional allergies that showed up after under-the-skin needle testing (but did not show up on the skin prick or his blood). My son received shots twice a week and is now on maintenance shots every month. Four years later, he no longer uses any kind of inhaler or suffers. He plays spring and fall sports outdoors, is happy and thriving, loves gym, and is now one of the fastest runners on his travel lacrosse team! I am so glad I did not listen to Dr. Bailey's advice. This was one of the best experiences I've had with a health care professional. Dr. Bailey was kind, conversational, professional, and full of expert information. The entire experience was totally pleasant (well, maybe the itchy allergy test wasn't my favorite but it was doing the job). Her administrative staff and nurses were warm and cheerful. The paperwork was processed efficiently. The nurse explained the allergy test thoroughly and helped me understand what allergens my body was reacting to. When it was time to talk with Dr. Bailey, she was warm-natured, patient with my questions, and highly informative. Dr. Bailey is amazing. She sees our entire family (including our son). She is thorough, caring, listens patiently, and doesn't rush you out the door. Because my son had numerous food allergies, he HATED doctors. Dr. Bailey was the only one who didn't drive him to tears. He actually liked her and, now that he is 9, actually listens to her and trusts her. When you're a parent, how adults treat your kids makes a world of difference. I highly recommend her. FWIW, he was there recently for a skin test at her office and was super nervous/upset. The staff was so incredibly nice and, once again, super patient. I can't say enough about the whole crew. I have been a patient of Dr. Bailey's for about four years. After wrestling with allergies since childhood, I finally committed to allergy shots, and have seen significant improvements. Dr. Bailey is very knowledgable and thorough in her treatment and follow-through. When my son was born and starting having breathing problems, we brought him to Dr. Bailey who diagnosed him with asthma. I have never had to deal with asthma myself, so it was a little scary and intimidating to have a two year old with breathing problems. Dr. Bailey's expertise and experience put my wife and me at ease. After some learning curve on our part as parents, my son is doing well with the treatment regimen that Dr. Bailey prescribed and his asthma is under control, which allows us all to sleep better at night (both physically and mentally). I highly recommend Dr. Bailey to any adults or parents of children who are dealing with allergies, asthma or both. read more

To me, Dr Bailey seems like another one of those self-promoting, in-it-for-the-money, glamorous 1%, DC-area doctors. I had found her from a Google search of local MDs that specialized in allergies. When I saw that she was ranked a 'top DC doctor', and took my insurance, I figured it couldn't be all bad. So, I called and waited the several months of appointment lag time. Maybe my expectations were too high. I only wanted some answers to some basic questions. But, in my view, my experience was lowly. The office staff and the Dr's assistant were friendly and helpful enough. I waited around in the office for quite awhile. Then they put me in a room and stamped my arms with various allergens. Then they made me breath through a tube. Then, I waited a while. Then, waited some more. Finally, I got to meet Dr Bailey, and she rushed me through my short 7 minutes visit and, as typical of modern doctors, didn't answer many of my questions, avoided others, but in the end prescribed me a few medicines. Finally, they set up a follow-up appointment for another several months. I tried to cancel the follow up appointment which fell on a Tuesday afternoon, but because of their over-the-top 48 hour cancellation policy, I wasn't able to cancel. So, I showed up anyway. I was 10 minutes late, and I still had to wait about 30 minutes. Eventually, I paid the $30 cancellation fee and left. Overall, the service was uninspiring. The office staff are friendly, but they have draconian office rules, and the office itself is a bit dated and placed in a very dated office building with $4 parking. Generally, it could have been a much much better experience. Also, watch out for other positive reviews. Their office sign advertises free gifts to patients who show that post positive reviews online. read more

First off, we did not and were not promised any freebies/gifts as some other reviewers suggested. I found the doc on our insurance directory. We found both staff and Dr. wonderful. The front desk staff who helped us was nice and friendly. Yeah, the waiting room is not fancy but that's not what we were going there for. We had a five minute wait to get inside for the appointment. The nurse went through the questionnaire and took in details of the reason we were there for. Since we were there for our little one they were accommodating for that too. The Doctor spent as much time as we needed to answer any and all questions we had. It was a two month wait before we could get an appointment but that too was no different from finding other specialist doctors in this area - big bummer but guess that's life! We might have tried other doctors but she was the closest and the most convenient for us to get to. They have some strict policies over billing/payment, but nothing different from other practices. They did not take a CC number when i made the appointment. If I were asked that I probably would have gone elsewhere. read more

However, the office entered the wrong claim information multiple times and when I called to follow up they were an absolute nightmare to deal with. They threatened me over and over and I couldn't get in touch with Dr. Bailey. It took a huge amount of effort on my part to resolve the issue with the insurance company directly and and there was never any assistance from Dr. Bailey or her office. NEVER AGAIN! They never submitted anything to my insurance company which I found out because they left a voicemail saying they were going to send my bill to a collection agency. I find this very odd because I never received a bill and prior to my visit, I was REQUIRED TO EXECUTE a document with my credit card information which stated any charges not covered under insurance would be directly billed. Called the office numerous times and I keep getting forwarded to a switchboard for the hospital center, not Dr. Baily's office. My 10-year-old son and I have been patients of Dr. Bailey's for over a year now, and we couldn't be happier with the care we've both received. Before finding Dr. Bailey, my son had been having daily asthma attacks triggered by seasonal allergies (his allergies are so severe that the "season" really runs from February to November). He had been seeing another allergist who had him on 3 different meds, but they weren't helping. Dr. Bailey prescribed different allergy and asthma meds, and, *knock on wood*, he hasn't needed his emergency inhaler in over a year! He's been getting weekly allergy shots at her office, and those seem to be helping as well. I was so encouraged by his progress that I decided to have Dr. Bailey help me with my allergies (dust mites, cat, dog), and I recently started allergy shots. Bottom line, Dr. Bailey is wonderful with children AND adults! She and her office staff are so pleasant, that my son and I actually enjoy our weekly visits to her office (despite the shots -- but the nurses are so good, we hardly feel the pinch :)). As for the office location -- it's very easy to get in and out of the building. There's a parking garage, and finding a spot is never a problem. It's $4 to park, and the parking attendant takes Visa. read more
