A beautiful recital hall for chamber music. Built in 1929, Salle Cortot was designed by Auguste Perret (known for Theatre Champs-Elysées) in the Art Nouveau style. The audience seating is rather shallow, steeply raked, with two tiers of balconies that wrap around the stage to provide very intimate contact with the performers. I had the pleasure of performing here in the Summer of 2009, and I have to say, the acoustics were very pleasing. My only complaint is that when it rained momentarily, the pattering on the metal roof was very loud. The hall features both international artists, as well as students and faculty from the adjoining conservatory (L'école normale de musique), and has been listed as a historical landmark since 1999. read more
