I reached out online and told them how much pain I was in. They took my pain seriously, emailed me back quickly, and booked an appointment for me with short notice. I was embarrassed because I knew my teeth were in bad shape. But everyone I talked to from beginning to end was so warm and friendly that I felt comfortable right away. After Dr. Schoening examined my teeth, I was referred to an oral surgeon (who was also excellent) to deal with some teeth that couldn't be saved. And Dr. Schoening came up with a plan to get my other teeth in good shape. I had a deep cleaning, which must have been a real chore for Dr. Schoening with how bad my teeth were. But Dr. Schoening never made me feel ashamed. He made sure I was physically comfortable as he worked, and he did an excellent job on my teeth. I'm so relieved to have found such an excellent dentist, and the entire team is incredible. My teeth feel and look a lot better. I can't say enough good things about this doctor or his staff. He's the only dentist I would trust now. In my first visit, he told me that I would need a crown on my back tooth. I thought he was trying to con me because I'd been to a couple of different dentists for other issues in the past couple years and none had mentioned that before. I got three other opinions of very trusted doctors. All other opinions told me the tooth was fine. One opinion said he would recommend just replacing the filling in the tooth since it was old. I had more x-rays done - everything - everything looked fine. Well, that dentist went in to replace the filling and was very surprised after he took the filling out and realized I did indeed need a crown. He hadn't prepared for a crown so he just did a super deep filling. A few months later I went back to Chicago Smiles to get the crown done and they did a fantastic job. I'd never had one before but had heard stories of sensitivity issues or other issues post-crown. I had none of those. I felt as though he really took his time with me and very much appreciated it. I am so irritated with this place, I feel scammed. I went there for a retreat of a root canal. I…read moreactually went there to get a referral to an endodontist to have this procedure done, but when I went there for the referral and they did my exam the dentist didn't give me a referral and he said that they could just do it in the office. I did not realize that this was a procedure that must be done by endodontist. I also thought that since he was saying that he could do it he wasn't endodontist. So obviously the retreat of my root canal failed. And now I have to go see a specialist to have it fixed, and I'm just irritated with that because I wouldn't have to be doing this if he would have just given me the referral to go to and endodontist in the first place like I asked. I really hate when doctors or dentists or medical professionals take advantage of customers just so that they can get money as opposed to giving them information or pointing them in the direction that's going to give them the best health care possible. I am a single mother and an artist and I ended up spending $2500 out of my own pocket for work that will do me no good, that I have to get repeated now. Also , and this might be a thing with male dentist thing, or maybe because I'm an African American and studies show that the vast majority of white medical professionals do terrible when it comes to the pain management of black patients... But when I would tell him that I was in pain he would just tell me to stop moving or brush off the fact that I was in a lot of pain. After I left his office a lot of times I just had to lay down for 1 to 2 days because the pain was so bad. The last straw was when I started to get the feeling that I was being pushed to get dental work that was not absolutely necessary. And after I had all of the dental work done that was recommended, out of nowhere he said that I need another crown, after I had just gotten three crowns from him. And I told him that I wanted to wait for a later date to get that done, and after I said that he had this really dismissive attitude about any other questions that I had in regards to my teeth. But at that time I didn't have any more money to pay for a crown, because I had gone into debt paying for the dental work he already did... I mean it's in a nice building so....
