My own thoughts are in my prior review, this time I'll defer to my Mom, who said the following in a recent e-mail to Dr. VanKoevering: "I just wanted to tell you how much it has meant to all of us to have you be a part of our and our kitties' lives these last few years.... I truly appreciate how generous you've always been with your time and your advice, particularly in phone conversations, and you always made me feel as though I could ask any question. It was always clear to us that you made (our kitties) quality of life the prime consideration, and your honesty and directness in conveying information as well as your opinions, was also most appreciated. (You have a) truly compassionate view of how animals deserve to be treated." BOTTOM LINE: Mom summed it up well. Having a home-vet was the best choice we ever made regarding our cats' care!

Incredibly disappointed with what was previously a fantastic veterinary practice. I have been a…read moreclient at Animal Kingdom for years now with multiple pets being patients here. The clinic has a new office administrator/manager who has chosen to enact new policies which I find untenable as a longtime client. Beyond that, Dudley's clear contempt for the clients who direct their business toward Animal Kingdom is beyond astonishing. The clinic now requires prepayment of a deposit before they will even schedule an appointment with a vet or even for just a nail trim. Contrary to the verbiage on their website, this policy now applies to ALL Animal Kingdom clients... or so I was told by the office manager, Dudley. I would completely understand this treatment if I had previously no-showed to an appointment or if I had ever failed to pay in full for services rendered at the time of the appointment. But as someone who has been a loyal customer for years, who has never once missed an appointment or not paid a bill in full, I find this new policy incredibly insulting. When I expressed my disappointment in being treated this way, I was told "only our deadbeat customers seem to have a problem with the deposit." The word deadbeat was literally directed at me by the incredibly rude clinic manager, Dudley. The clinic also now refuses to electronically verify prescriptions for Chewy in an attempt to force customers to use their overpriced pharmacy. They previously did this and their vets quite literally encouraged us to get the prescriptions elsewhere because of how expensive the in house pharmacy is. Apparently Dudley has decided to end this service and now you must mail a physical prescription to Chewy because Animal Kingdom staff won't take the time to verify a prescription. Chewy customer service has stated that I am not the first customer to run into this issue with Animal Kingdom. They also now refuse to renew my cat's flea and tick preventative unless I bring him in for a full wellness exam. My cat has taken the same flea/tick medication his entire life with zero issues, and I have never once been denied a refill prior to this new office manager implementing his new policies. If my cat was symptomatic or had any issues I would gladly take him in for an exam. I will not subject him to needless stress just to renew a medication that he has taken without issue for years. Again, this was never an issue in the past. It's a sudden new issue. Dudley claims this is a legal requirement, but also refuses to cite the MCL statute supposedly related to his claim that my cat had to be seen in person for a prescription refill. These policies strike me as being nothing more than a poorly veiled attempt at profiteering and increasing revenue. During a phone conversation with the office manager, Dudley, he repeatedly over-talked me and was incredibly condescending. He also threatened that he would contact my employer to falsely tell them that I was being verbally abusive to veterinary office staff (I work as a sales manager in the pet industry consulting with vets and pet store owners on a daily basis). I find this incredibly funny, as I recorded my interaction with him and did not raise my voice, swear, or do anything remotely insulting to the office manager or any of the clinic staff. When I asked when the clinic owner, Dr. Vicky D. Marsh, would be available to discuss my concerns about the new policies and his behavior/threats, the office administrator stated "I think this conversation is over" and refused to give me a time I could reach Dr. Marsh. As such I've reached out to Dr. Marsh through social media (Facebook) and used my industry contacts to track down her cell phone number in an effort to inform her of her employee's conduct. So far I've received no response. I'm really hoping Dr. Marsh has better customer service skills than her staff and will do the right thing as a business owner and reach out to discuss this situation. It's just absurd to have to resort to contacting a business owner through Facebook because an employee refuses to simply state when would be a good time to call and speak to the clinic's owner. Animal Kingdom has been a well respected veterinary clinic in the Saline and Ann Arbor area for years. It really is a tragic shame to see their previously stellar customer service take a rapid nose dive, only due to what seems to be a newly hired, power-tripping admin worker. As someone whose entire job and livelihood revolves around relationship building and providing quality customer service, I can't help but just shake my head at the way some people behave when dealing with their clients. The office manager truly needs a crash course in how to have a discourse with the clinic's clientele. I've already requested my pets' electronic medical records and will be looking for a new vet who doesn't employ admin staff who believe it is acceptable to treat their longtime clients like fraudsters.

Your pets are in safe hands if you board with Dr. Karr and Cyd!…read more I boarded our corgi here for the first time ever after my friend (who has also left a review here) raved about Dr. Karr. We have a situation where our dog requires 5 different types of eye medication, three times a day in his eyes. So that means someone has to be able to give him the meds at night around 9 or 10. Until I heard about this place, the only place in town who could do this is Petsmart. No other boarding place has someone working there late at night. Cyd told me this wasn't even an issue and of course they'd be able to give him his meds whenever we said he needed them. So it was a non-issue. Unheard of. I spoke to them on the phone a few times and they reassured me Gryff would be in good hands. First off, they take your dog out six times a day. Without a charge. That's just normal and routine. This is UNHEARD OF, people. You're lucky if your dog can be let out more than twice and they get to be outdoors. Not in a room like at Petsmart. You also have the option to let your dog be taken out in a group of other dogs (so they get some play time) or they can go out with just the people. Since our dog is getting a little older, playing with other dogs is hit or miss. To prevent this, they just spent more time with him and said he was great! I've also been told by people at Petsmart that my dog gets put in "time out" because he'd bark at other dogs. He's a mediator. That's a trait of corgis; big dog in a small dog body. But they took it as him being "aggressive" and he wasn't allowed in the group plays. At Pittsfield Pet Care, Cyd told me he was fine. Sure, they spent more time with him than him with other dogs, but they said he was totally fine. I have to trust two people who know and understand dogs over a kid working in a pet store. Dr. Karr is a licensed vet so if something happens there is someone there who will be able to take care of them. This is extremely reassuring. Given our dog's medical history, and a slight toe injury he was getting over, it was good to know he'd be in good hands should anything happen. Bottom line: board your pet here. They're going to be in compassionate dog people who know, understand and love dogs like their own. Their rate is great too ($30/night) and we only had a pay an additional fee per day because of the amount of medicine he needs. The facility is clean, which is a big thing on my list too. Drop-off and Pick-up was a breeze and these two people are two of the most friendly and wonderful people I have met.

This is a review for dog walking, doggy daycare, and dog boarding…read more I found Peaceable Pets after a very thorough vetting (I am convinced I should have been cast in the movie Best in Show--yes, that is how much of a crazy dog lady I consider myself). Time and again, people on the Ann Arbor Dog Owners Facebook group mentioned Peaceable Pets. I read all the reviews, stalked Peaceable Pet's Facebook page (where Robin posts videos of her guests and informative articles about all things animals), scrutinized the information on her website, did a meet and greet with Marcy, our dog walker, a play date at the Dellwood Doggy Ranch (required for doggy daycare and boarders). I give it 10/10 stars. Peaceable Pets is an Ann Arbor treasure. You will not find someone more knowledgeable about dogs than Robin. Some reasons I love what Robin offers: 1. She understands my dog's unique personality, quirks, and needs. 2. She prioritizes the safety, well-being, and quality of life for my dog. 3. The pick-up and drop-off times worked well with my schedule, which was variable for a while, and then predictable for another while. 4. I trust her 100%. 5. Every time I bring Hagrid to her, he bounds toward her and doesn't even look back to say goodbye. Every dog parent knows that is a good sign. 6. Hagrid is calm and content when he returns from daycare. ...I could go on and on. As for dog walking, Marcy was wonderful and reliable. A few times I bumped into Marcy while I was walking Hagrid and saw his entire body language and vocalization over his joy of seeing Marcy. There is no stronger endorsement than that, in my opinion. To top it all off, Robin and Marcy have really interesting personalities, back stories, and talents when they are not caring for our beloved animals. Marcy speaks French. Robin sings in a band. They are the absolute best.

Our experience with…read moreDr. Fung was terribly traumatic and made worse by how callously we were treated after the deaths of our beloved pets. I have filed a complaint against her license with the state. I was notified that my complaint was reviewed and approved by the board for investigation and that she is currently being investigated by the state and LARA. I have been advised this is a long process and I want to post our story to protect other families and their babies from this type of trauma. We took in our two kittens for routine neuter surgery and both kittens died while under her care that day. I was not notified by the vet herself that both of my animals had died, instead I was called by the office manager. When I arrived to say goodbye to my animals, Dr. Fung never came into see me or explain what had happened. Instead, she had the office manager who is a layperson, attempt to explain why my animals died. She explained that Dr Fung believed both kittens had a genetic anomaly and that both of them, and even their littermates, would most likely have died within a year. (I reached out to the owner of the littermates and they were seen by a cardiologist and scans showed them to have no genetic anomalies.) Dr. Fung took one X-ray of each of my animals post mortem. I was told by the office manager that the doctor was able to determine cause of death from this image and that no necropsy was needed. I was left alone with my two dead babies to say goodbye. When the office manager came back, it was to discuss billing and payment. I was told I could take their bodies and bury them myself or I could pay for cremation services. I told her I had prepaid for services and that I was overwhelmed at the thought of discussing billing during this traumatic moment. I left that day paying additional money to have their bodies cremated at my expense. I only was able to talk to Dr. Fung directly when I scheduled an appointment to discuss what happened to my animals. She said that my kittens had genetic anomalies that she could show me on the x-ray. She compared my kittens X-ray to a "healthy" cat's X-ray she pulled up online and gave a lengthy explanation of the genetic anamolies she saw in the X-ray. After leaving her office, I reached out to a trusted veterinary professional for help and it was recommended that the x-rays be reviewed by an independent party. After many requests for higher resolution images were denied, I persisted, and her staff finally provided images that were able to be reviewed. The independent review was not able to confirm the congenital defects she purported. She asked to review the report and her response was that the reviewers "primary concern seems to be aspiration pneumonia, which was not the case." She even went as far as to blame the length of time it took to acquire records and have them reviewed by saying, "you did not pursue action until well after the matter". She was unwilling to reimburse us for the cost of the review or any of the $1135.00 we had given her over the 8 days from when my kittens established care with a pre surgical exam to when they died in surgery. I have been advised that a single veterinarian should not have more than one animal under anesthesia at a time and I have not received a satisfactory answer as to why the second kitten was ever put under anesthesia if the first had coded during surgery. I have so many unanswered questions and I hope this review helps protect other families from this type of tragedy.
