Very poor customer service. I spent 5 hours there today and my cat was never seen. The problem I had is that the staff does not update you. I never saw a vet in those 5 hours. She never once came out of the back. When I asked the front desk staff would just say they had an emergency. I understand that, however, they never talked to me. After 3.5 hours they took her back to "see the vet". After 1.5 hours she had not been seen. I left and will take her elsewhere. I understand emergencies; I was a hospital administrator for over 40 years. But their blatant lack of respect for and disregard for their patients' owners is disturbing. Holding themselves out as an emergency vet when they only have 1 vet working is ridiculous. Do not go there. read more

I have contacted Blue Pearl on 2 separate occasions when my vet was closed. Both times they listened carefully and provided recommended next steps to help decide if I needed to bring my dog in. The first call did not require a visit, but I was grateful for their recommendations and kind response. The second call they provided several options, including watchful waiting (no pressure to bring my dog in), but I decided a visit would be the best approach. The facility was very nice, the staff was wonderful with my dog and we were in and out quickly (on a Saturday morning). read more

With one minor exception, I was satisfied with the care given here. My older cat had suffered with renal problems for quite a few years. She was on a special renal diet food. So when she stopped eating and wasn't drinking as much as usual, I became concerned. Called my regular vet, and they had no appointments available for several weeks, even in a crisis such as this. They suggested an emergency animal hospital here in town, but when I called them, they said they no longer took emergency cases. So, I started looking for an alternative. Blue Pearl seemed to have satisfactory reviews, not just on Yelp. I called them, and they were able to take her. They ran blood tests (critical for renal issues) and after discussion, we decided that she needed to be euthanized, especially given her age and chronic condition. So, I shed my tears and sent Ruby over the Rainbow Bridge. Now for the exception: I'm retired, so don't have tons of money. So, I elected to have her cremated. And rather than return her ashes to me, they had an option to have her ashes distributed over a communal memorial site at a pet cemetery. They even provided a paw print plaque to me. I have one from my last cat, too. My problem comes when I got home and decided to look up the pet cemetery. Listed on their flyer as "Pet Cemetery in the Irish Hills", I couldn't find anything on Google about them. After multiple web searches and multiple phone calls, I found that the pet cemetery had been bought by another business. Actually, a group of pet cemeteries, "Trusted Journey Pet Memorial Services". When I called Blue Pearl, they said they used Trusted Journey. So, I asked why their flyer doesn't indicate that. She had no idea about the Irish Hills flyer. After a few additional calls, I contacted someone at the cemetery located in "Irish Hills". It's actually in Templeton, MI and was previously known as Partridge Pet Cemetery, a business that's been around for 30 years. More Googling, and the discussion I had with the woman at Partridge, left me overall comfortable with my pets ashes being distributed. Note of warning: This cemetery is located next to a private property that used to be included in the land that Partridge owned. You must call if you want to visit because the people who own the common driveway have some issues. If you look it up on Google Maps, it's in the middle of nowhere. But you CAN visit. MY RECOMMENDATION TO BLUE PEARL: UPDATE THE INFORMATION IN YOUR FOLDER TO REFLECT WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS TO PETS ASHES. Your staff may know that you use Trusted Journey, but you need to reflect that information in what you provide to clients and sad pet owners. read more

They were so kind and understanding and we were able to be seen right away. They thoroughly explained the process and helped our sweet girl cross the rainbow bridge humanely and with compassion. The cardiologist we saw was kind, compassionate, and gave good options for our cat. However, the business aspect of Blue Pearl was atrocious. I received a bill on 7/29, paid it 7/30, received confirmation via email that it had been paid and then month later received a threatening letter in the mail stating that they were going to take me to court and "pursue all legal options available" to get payment, payment they had already received. No other communication was sent via email in that time and I received no phone calls from them after 8/2, where they did not leave a message and I assumed were just calling to check on my cat. After receiving the threatening letter, I called and spoke to Rachel who initially told me that I was fabricating the payment because on their end it showed as declined and I should pay again. Upon forwarding her the confirmation email she then found the payment but did not offer an apology for the threatening letter that they sent me, nor did she apologize for the glitch in their system. There are so many amazing places to take your animal in Washtenaw County. I will not be going back to a place that is either too disorganized to track payment or is attempting to scam people into paying their bill twice by threatening legal action against them. read more

I hate to leave this review, but I have to as it has made my whole family uneasy. Rudest doctor we have ever met. Couldn't service dog on Christmas in ER after they told us to come in. We were very specific on the phone, to the front desk, and to the vet technician about service needed. Waited 3 hours to have doctor say we don't do the service here. When I calmly expressed I don't feel comfortable paying $200 for not receiving service that the person on the phone, the front desk, and the technician said was possible--the Doctor raised a horrible/mean temper, stormed out of the room on us, not finishing the conversation, and told us to "just leave." At least we didn't have to pay in the end--but would not recommend Blue Pearl, at least for ER. Only positive-The lady at the front desk was very kind. Not an ideal way to spend a holiday, and our suffering puppy did not receive the help he needed. read more

My dog was very sick and was misdiagnosed from another animal hospital. The staff at blue pear diagnosed and had my puppy feeling better by the next day. They are a bit pricey with the medications and vet visit compared to other animal hospitals but I was very satisfied with the treatment of my dog and how quickly they were able to diagnose and have him feeling better. My dog was having an allergic reaction to something - face all puffy. They were upfront about the costs before seeing him and then they saw him right away. Gave me status updates, talked to the vet, and my pup was feeling better. Staff was knowledgeable and friendly. I saw other people with animals that didn't have dire emergencies having long (1 hr ish) waits or being turned away when they got busy. I have brought my cat to Blue Pearl Vet twice. Both times they took very good care of him. The first time he needed stitches from a raccoon attack and Yesterday he had a bad infection from a coyote bite that he very luckly escaped. He had puncture wound on his right hind leg and left side. They flushed the wounds, gave him antibiotics and pain meds. They might cost a little more than other vets but they are Very Knowledgeable and careing toward you and your pet. read more

The level of compassion and love they showed me , my mom and my Mookie will never be able to be described in words. After my 13 year old dog tore her second back ACL I had to put her to rest so she was not suffering. This clinic made the worst day of my life peaceful. The many blessings they offered us in this horrible time made the day less tragic. I am able to look back and smile at the last special moments shared with my girl in this clinic. While they were wonderful with my dog, I found a stray cat & called Blue Pearl to see if I could bring it there. I was told by the person on the phone that they could take it & they would bring it to the Humane Society in the morning, & to call back in two hours. I was never asked any questions or told anything else. I called back two hours later (11 p.m.) to tell them that I was on my way & a different lady on the phone told me that it was a 3 hour wait, to which I responded that I called two hours ago & was told to call back in two hours & bring the cat in. She told me that I would have to wait three hours, and then asked me where I found the cat. I told her that I found the cat in Van Buren Township & I heard her say to a coworker "not even in Washtenaw County" & then she told me that they wouldn't accept the cat because it wasn't found in Washtenaw county. Why wasn't I told this the first time I called? Why wasn't I asked where I found the cat two hours ago? I told her that I spoke with someone earlier who never asked about the location of the cat & she said "I can't help what someone else told you" & hung up. I understand the rules that are in place, but why wasn't I made aware of these rules when calling the first time? I am very impressed with the service and abilities of the staff. My 125 pound German Shepherd needed urgent care after injuring his legs on the ice. He was not putting any weight on his back legs and we needed to lift him into our car. When we arrived the staff brought out a gurney so we did not need to lift him. We were checked in quickly and my dog was evaluated by the vet. The vet recommended X-rays and we agreed. Prior to the x-ray, the vet gave my dog something to make him more comfortable as she manipulated his hips. The X-ray was negative and the vet explained all the details of the image. The vet and vet tech gave us options for treatment and release. Everything was explained and we had the final decision. Prices were explained to us during the process from admission to release. It took a little over two hours from admission to release. Tracey Tamashiro was our vet, she is knowledgeable and very easy to talk to. Jason our vet tech was our main contact. Jason is detail oriented, compassionate and knowledgable. Jason lifted our dog into our car before we left. Mary Jo administered us quickly and listened patiently as I regaled her with stories about my dog. My wife and I own three German Shepherds and have owned 10 others. I'm so glad this place is here. Tonight my dog couldn't deficate and only wanted to lay down and cry. Within 5 minutes my dog was out of the exam room wagging his tail and as hyper as ever. A simple butt shaving and feces blockage removed and we were on our way. Honest, reasonable, compasionate, prompt. I had to bring a loved family cat there a couple of years ago and unfortunately had to be "put down." Same good service then. We are lucky to have a place like this in our community. read more

I hate to give 3 stars however, my overall experience was about 3.5! Our initial encounter I'd give 4.5-5 We arrived with our puppy not doing great, I believe her name was Brittany who we had spoken to prior to arrival & also at the front desk when we checked in. She was great, very nice and helpful... immediately called someone to take our pup back. The nurse who went over billing and gave updates was this big dude, he was Great! very understanding, answered all of our questions and concerns... He didn't rush us or make us feel like we couldn't ask questions, we really liked him! The Dr was also nice and explained everything.... So, here's the problem... my puppy was given anti vomiting medication, was told multiple times that on this particular medication he should NOT throw up again after the dose he was given... So, if he did, "Call immediately, they wanted to hear about it" we were also told that if he seemed to be getting worse or we had Any concerns we could call & had a 24hr window where we could have him rechecked without paying another fee.... The nurse did inform us there was about to be a shift change but the other Dr was already there... seen our pup and was fully informed of his situation.... We were home about 3 hrs when my pup throws up, and became highly agitated. My husband calls to let them know and the new Dr (which is why we are giving 3 stars) tells my husband, "yeah that doesn't sound good." He mentions bringing him back and the Dr tells him to take him to his primary vet (it's like midnight clearly they aren't open which is why we were in their emergency facility in the 1st place) she totally pawned us off and was NO help, my husband was very upset after the call... my pup threw up another 2xs... About an hr after that he wanted to eat and I was unsure of what to do... hesitantly I called back. The Dr says oh didn't I talk to you earlier (not in a rude or angry tone but definitely didn't make you want to ask a question) regardless I ask my question about my pup and eating food, she tells me to wait another 4hrs before feeding then start by giving him just a Teaspoon TSP! of water yes my pup is small but damn! We basically had to wing it ourselves the rest of the night/morning, use our best judgment and pray for the best. Definitely Not happy with the lack of care after the shift change which really sucks because she totally ruined the great job the staff before her did. read more

They immediately were down on the floor with him and giving him so much love and attention. He underwent surgery for an avulsion of the tibia tuberosity. Dr. Bander did an incredible job and was transparent and communicative through the whole experience. Totally unfortunate that service today really turned me off to Blue Pearl. For the past year any emergency for my frenchies and anytime I needed to suggest a place this was it. Our regular vet we love suggested this place for emergency as he is in garden city and it occurred late. Multiple times I have had an incredible experience, impeccable service and true caring and understanding. Today after traveling 30 days with my pups I went there due to diarrhea & welts all over my little girls body-immediately Sasha at the front desk tried to pursuade me to go Somewhere else. I was instantly uncomfortable-three times total she continued to push me to leave, saying "I can't guarantee less than an hour" I said the first time, NO PROBLEM IM MORE COMFORTABLE HERE, these folks have my dog records. but then I called one of the other places, however it was 20 minutes away, (and we had already driven 20 minutes) I left, and ended up waiting well over an hour anyhow, and my stellar impression of blue pearl has been marred. read more

We have always brought our older dog to Blue Pearl due to a heart condition. You were able to get her on meds that helped her and we are impressed with your Southfield staff. However, on Thanksgiving Day, our little dog was attacked by a large dog at Thanksgiving dinner. We rushed him to the Ann Arbor office who already had a room ready when we arrived by us calling a head. They did such a wonderful job by fixing him up and sending him home with medication. We are truly blessed and thankful for that staff to be there after hours on Thanksgiving! From the bottom of our hearts, we appreciate all you do on a regular basis and during such a traumatic event for us and the dog over thanksgiving!!! Lois the receptionist was amazing, she was so comforting on the phone during our drive there. And once we were there, she was so comforting while we were waiting for Simba as the doctor had him. Jason the tech and Dr. Swain both explained everything very clearly as to what they were doing to treat him, also what the recovery would be like for us and how to give all meds. Do not ever go to this place. They misdiagnosed and killed two of my pets. I took my dog there to have them give her fluids. She had surgery earlier in the week and the vet that did the surgery wanted us to give her fluids since she had some kidney issues, and we had given fluids to our cat but felt uncomfortable giving them to our dog and we wanted a professional to do it. We called ahead and they said to come in but when we got there and saw the doctor she wouldn't do them and said our dog needed pain medicine instead. She didn't tell us that she was giving our dog pain medicine known to cause kidney failure when we told her that was what we were trying to avoid. We didn't find out until Monday (we went in on Friday night) that the pain med had caused kidney failure and although we took her to the vet every day that week for fluids, we couldn't bring her back and we had to put her to sleep the following weekend. I wrote the office about all of this so they could make sure it didn't happen again and they did nothing. Two years later my cat who was about 8 years old starting having a respiratory issue and I took him there because they are about 5 minutes from my house and I could not imagine they would still employ the same doctor that had killed my dog. I didn't realize it but it was the same doctor and she was as bad as she was 2 years earlier. She said my cat had asthma and needed breathing treatments even though I told her the cat had never had trouble breathing before in his 8 years. She did xrays which were about $250 and then asked if I wanted to pay $200 more to have them read that night to which I replied of course - thinking that I needed answers immediately so we could get him breathing again. She still insisted that it was asthma after the xrays and wanted to keep him for observation for a couple of days. I knew better by that point (but still didn't realize it was the same doctor as 2 years earlier) and since it was about 6 a.m. I took him home so I could take him to my vet later that day. My vet unfortunately wasn't in that day so I took my cat and the xrays from Blue Pearl to another vet who reviewed the xrays and didn't find evidence of asthma and gave him some medicine to try and help the breathing. By the next morning my cat was gasping for air and I didn't think I could make it very far with him so I raced him back to Blue Pearl. A different vet was on duty and within 20 minutes he had done a new xray and found a lesion had developed in my cat's throat. The first "doctor" hadn't taken xrays of any area but the lungs since she had already decided it was asthma. I ended up rushing him to another animal hospital for treatment because I just couldn't trust that place anymore. Unfortunately, because the issue wasn't diagnosed correctly when it could have been treated, the next animal hospital wasn't able to save him and I had to put him to sleep there. I wrote Blue Pearl again after I went back in my records and realized it was the same bad "doctor" that had treated my dog that was still there and treated my cat. This time, I did receive a response from their manager and she agreed to discuss the issue with me on the phone. I told her I wanted that "doctor" to be on the call but she didn't allow that. She instead had the doctor who I saw the second time and who had correctly diagnosed the problem. She insisted that the first doctor did everything just fine even though I asked the second doctor if she could have seen the problem from the xrays she took and he said no. I believe the cost for the 6 hours it took for to her misdiagnose my cat was about $1500, then there was the costs to see another vet a few hours later, the cost of the additional visit back to Blue Pearl, and the treatment at the final emergency vet who tried to save him but it was too late. DO NOT EVER GO TO BLUE PEARL!!!! If I need any service my vet can't perform (ultrasound, teeth cleaning, etc) or even just routine visits if he's unavailable, I go to Ann Arbor Animal Hospital (https://annarboranimalhospital.com/) at 2150 W. Liberty in Ann Arbor, 734-662-4474. They're open Monday-Friday 8 am - 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am-2 pm with regular walk-in hours with no emergency fee. They are open 24/7 for emergencies outside of these hours. I have taken several pets there and every doctor I've had there has been great and knows what they're doing. I live 5 minutes from Blue Pearl and 20 minutes from Ann Arbor Animal Hospital and will go to Ann Arbor Animal Hospital every time. When my pet is sick, I want to have someone who can diagnose what is wrong and treat it correctly. I lost two very special pets because I took them to Blue Pearl. Never again. read more

Brought my 5 month old kitten to these people, with breathing problems. Quoted me $800 on the spot or they wouldn't help her. No payments plans or nothing.... A ridiculously high amount, that no one could just come up with like that. Sent my baby home to die, and that's what she did. No one would help her. Had to watch her slip away in front of me. I would never recommend this place to anyone of my friends or family. We all really care about our animals, and this place doesn't. They care about the profit... I have gone to Blue Pearl multiple times for emergencies. They are way too over priced for their services. 4 years ago my dog needed a bowel obstruction surgery done and it cost me $2,900. Yesterday the same thing happened and they quoted us $5,500-$7,500. I understand inflation but that is ridiculous. They charge different prices for initial and follow up x-rays even though they are the same picture each time. Go to another emergency vet in the area. They are much more reasonable. I have gone to multiple other places and Emergency Veterinary Hospital on Jackson road by far has the best prices and best care. read more

My pet was sick late at night and my vet (whom I love) recommended a 24 hour clinic that was a little too far for my liking. So I went here instead. But it was interesting that my vet did not recommend this place....which is very close to my vet and to me. And I should have listened to my vet. Front desk staff at BluePearl did their job well, however, the vet tech was condescending and service was quite disappointing. If it wasn't midnight and I wasn't frantically worried about my 13 year old pet....I would have gone elsewhere. Moreover, they didn't help my pet's condition. I waited until morning and my regular vet prescribed an antibiotic which helped her within 8 hours. All I can do is never return here and inform you all of my experience.
