We drive over 40 miles each way to shop here for their amazing customer service, great selection of products and great value. The manager, Jason, went above and beyond to help us retrofit the bump start on our weedeater - saving us the expense of buying a new one. He is so knowledgeable, especially in regard to the Stihl products! The girls at the counter were a delight and so helpful in assisting in selecting unique gifts for my nieces and pointing out sale items. This kind of customer service is so rare today! Do not buy one of this Ace Hardware Store's junk mechanical products! I bought a self propelled Toro lawnmower in May of this year, by November the plastic transmission had melted, the drive pulley shattered, and the parts crapped out on my half mowed yard. Contacted Rockport Ace, no repair available there and only a one month warranty, so no service either. Gave me the wrong number for Toro warranty service, I finally got past that misdirection to the right service number, where, of course, Robo gave me the option to hear a short list of Toro authorized warranty shops near me (25 miles away). That shop charges $75 just to look at it in case Toro won't pay them for the repairs. Junk product, junk advice from Ace, junk customer service from Ace and Toro, etc. My advice, shop anywhere else than Ace Hardware in Rockport, somewhere that stocks quality products and stands behind the sale with solid warranties. This store opened right after Hurricane Harvey with no lights, buckets catching water and just taking cash because there was no electricity! The people working here are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. The store is always clean and the check out wait time is well managed. This is such a great place to have in Rockport! They've got all your hardware needs. The store is well lit, clean, and well organized. I love that in a hardware store. I was impressed how clerks wander the aisles, ready to answer questions. When I asked where an item was, they didn't just point me towards the aisle, they put down the price gun, and walked me across the store to find what I was looking for. Their service is top notch. They have plenty of cashiers at the front, for a speedy checkout. Also, they have a friendly return policy, which was also appreciated! Parking is easy- this used to be a Wal-Mart. I do not know what has happened with this ace hardware but the owners need to look into this. In the last 6 months or so this store has gone from 5 stars to 2. The only reason for the 2 is the checkers. Awhile back my wife tried to use a coupon. She was told they no longer accept a coupon on this item even though she used one two months before on the same item. Then we found a hose reel that we wanted. Put it in the basket went up to the cashier and it wasn't what was posted at the shelf. They sent a runner to check and he came back and told them there was about six of them in that slot. The manager said they would not honor that price and they were not responsible for items put in the wrong place. I trying to figure out who the hell is. Last draw was I ordered a part for my lawn mower. I was told that it would be around $17 to $18. After about 2 weeks the part came in. I go pick it up and take to the cashiers and they ring it up at about $33. When I picked it up in the parts department it still had their invoice on it. They paid $15.95 for it. When I asked why the over 100% markup service department told me that AFTER THEY had ordered it the prices went up and there wasn't anything he could do. Funny thing, he did really seem to belive what he was telling me. It was like someone else told him what to say. But anyway, if I understand this correctly. ACE in Rockport is not going to honor their price quotes. If they order something and they pay a certain price, and the price goes up after they buy it, the customer still pays the higher price. (I went home and ordered the part myself. It is to be dilivered in 4days. With tax & shipping the price came to $19.97. (I guess the place I got it from didn't get a price increase.) I guess they can put their items wherever they want in the store and not be responsible for the price if its in the wrong place. Sounds like bait and switch to me. Rockport is a small town. People talk. I don't know what has changed recently but the owners better get a handle on this. Their reputation is starting to get ruined. I know I'm done. Shame too. It used to be my go to store. Wow. Love this place, besides the fact it has everything you could want in a hardware store it has tons of stuff you didn't know you wanted or needed! Including Tons Beautifully crafted beach decor! Way to much to even list, always clean and plenty of associates to help and they always offer to helpful. Clean and classy public bathrooms too showing the clean sign in sheet was completed and up to date! The people here have always been extremely helpful, A tall male associate "Leland" went out of his way today to help me drag multiple plastic totes and trash cans out to my truck and even loaded them in my truck. I have been here multiple times and they never fail to provide assistance. Love this place. read more

ACE Hardware combines the friendly, problem-solving attitude of old hardware stores with a wonderfully stocked, modern facility. Melvin and Susan love a challenge and are happy to engineer a solution. Every employee we met was knowledgeable, cheerful and ready to help. My engineer father and I used to get a complimentary bag of popcorn and wander the aisles for fun. He's gone now. ACE hardware is still the interesting, well stocked place he loved. read more

I live in Rockport and recently saw a commercial for Ace Hardware and how they have staff who are lightbulb experts and because they are not a big box store, they'll spend time helping you. This was definitely not the case at this Ace Hardware. I arrived last week needing some help picking out the correct light bulbs. Once I found the lightbulb isle, I asked for help from the nearest associate. She must not have had time to assist me so she put a call out for another associate to meet me in the lightbulb isle. After waiting about 15 minutes and reading almost all the lightbulb packages, I took a stab in the dark and chose two different kinds to try at home. At the register I mentioned to the cashier that I would like some help choosing light bulbs and she called someone over who gave me his opinion. His opinion was pretty expensive and I ended up buying $100 worth of LED bulbs to try at home. One kind did work and I was happy that my issue was resolved. Since the bulbs were pretty expensive I decided to check the prices on Amazon.com and found that the exact same package of 2 LED bulbs Ace sold me was $21 less expensive online. Ouch, Ace! Your price gouging hurts. I purchased the bulbs and returned the others to Ace. Amazon.com price was $15 with free shipping and Ace Hardware's price was $36. BIG difference. I decided to share my experience today because when I went to return the bulbs, I walked into the store with the items in an Ace bag I was immediately greeted be an employee. She asked me if I needed help and I said yes I'd like to return some items. Her exact words were "you can get in line then." After waiting in line, the cashier returned the bulbs with no issues but needed that same "get in line" lady to approve the return. Her name was Kristen and she cemented my bad experience with Rockport's Ace Hardware. I just bought a house and will happily drive the 15 minutes to Lowes for their superior customer service and low prices or I will shop online to avoid your store. read more

Just bought a home in Rockport and do alot of my own work so I need materials. Ace is the closest to me so i tried it for several items from paint to harware stain. They have alot of stuff here and its a nice store. Pros: Good staff (one grouchy paint guy) Good selection, some lumber, household and fishinfg tackle. Cons: it is expensive. So would I return? Yeah orobably for some things. The staff are so friendly. If you dont want to go to other stores and feel like you could get shanked and want to get treated like a human this is a good place. read more

I wanted to share how absolutely pleasant and helpful people were at this store. I live out of state and I was only in the store one other time a few months ago...and I was just as blown away by how nice and helpful everyone was. In so many stores nowadays, it's so hard to find an employee to try and help you and, even when you do, it may seem like you are imposing upon them. That was not the case at Ace here in Rockport. From the moment we were greeted upon walking in, to the helpful people on the floor, and even the friendly cashier on the way out. One of the few places open almost immediately after Hurricane Harvey even though the roof was open and store wet. They were there to help. Employees who were available to work went to find your requested item to keep you safe from wet floors and merchandise if it was available. If you requested something they tried to obtain it for you as quickly as possible. Recently revisited and the store is almost completely restored. This ACE RIPS OFF everyone who brings their 20lb propane tanks there for refill. First off they refuse to bleed the air out of the tank while filling them. They insist that you don't do that to this size tank. I travel and live in my 5th Wheel full time and have had my tanks refilled hundreds of times and EVERY OTHER PLACE has bled the air out EVERY TIME. Secondly - they charge by the size of the tank - not by the amount of actual propane they put in the tanks. I could tell by feel that my tanks were only partially filled. To confirm that I was correct I weighed the tanks when I got back to my RV and found that they both weighed less then 30lbs. They normally weigh right at 40lbs when full. After they filled the first one I could tell it was light so I watched the gauge on their filling station while they filled the second one and as I expected they only put 2 1/2 gallons in. 20lb tanks can hold 5 gallons but are normally only filled to 80% to allow for expansion in the tank which would be 4 gallons. EVERY time I've gotten my tanks filled in the past I've paid for the number of gallons purchased but they charged me a "tank price" at the rate a full tank would hold. I talked to the store manager and explained all this and was simply told that she would tell the owner when they came in the next day. In my opinion they are STEALING from their customers by charging us for something we did not receive. read more

Went to buy propane for a 7 gal tank for an rv. Was told to either pay by the tank (which is NOT legal any longer in TX) for $24.99 (assuming the tank is empty, that equates to $3.57/gal) or pay $5.87 per gal to top off the tank; which makes absolutely NO SENSE and is extremely high!! The propane place on the south edge of town charges $3.10/gal; Tractor Supply 13 miles away charges 2.79/gal. You can probably guess where I'll be buying my propane. Definitely not ACE!! read more

Absolutely horrible experience. Tried to exchange a defective nailer. Did not have another one in stock. I then asked for a refund, I am a contractor and this is a necessary work tool. The owner accused me of using him as a rental center and was tired of getting screwed by people like let me. I use Ace constantly, this man just changed that forever. read more

This place is way overpriced & the so called "Ace Rewards" card is a joke by pretending to save the customer money on merchandise that is ridiculously overpriced. Too friendly! Walked in and had 7 employees in less than 2 minutes trying to help me. Overwhelming, almost like a used car lot. A rip off on propane. Brought 2 30 gl tanks, one empty and one half full. Had to pay the full price for the half bottle. Did not tell me until after they filled my tank. To me that's is equivalent to a thief. So overpriced and hardly ever have their sales paper items, especially tools they say are on sale. Just a plain ole rip off. read more

I have been frequenting this Ace for quite sometime. The owner is an amazing man. I went in yesterday, October 17, to buy a bench vise and air compressor. I have never been so disrespected by an employee in my life. I had been working on a boat all day and was greasy. I was stopped when I walked in by a young brunette cashier and asked if I needed help. I said no thank you, I know where everything is. It turned out I could not find another item I wanted to purchase, so I went back to her and asked where it would be. The answer I got left me flabbergasted. She rolled her eyes and said i'm busy. She was not doing anything besides talking to other employees. She then turned and said besides, you said you know where everything is so i'm sure you will be fine. I asked to speak with a manager and was told she was sure I could find one of them as well. The employee she was talking to said stop it Rebecca or something similar. He said I would love to help you, but by that time I had it. I will never step foot in that place. As I was leaving she told the male employee, it isn't like this is an important job where I need to deal with assholes, laughed and said to me loudly, have a great day. I will be taking my business elsewhere and letting all my associates know that the kids run the place and obviously management does not care. I called later to have the phone answered by the same girl. I asked to speak with a manager and was told none were available and a quick goodbye and hang up. I will be writing a letter to the owner, as well as leaving a review on Facebook and anywhere else you can. read more

I love what Ace has done with the new merchandise, and I'm a huge believer in buying local. Unfortunately, today's Ace experience was atrocious because of an employee who was rude to my children. I know bad kids, and am the first to say when my kids take things too far. But when a business set up a display with a bunch of toys, and children start to play with the toys under the watchful eye of a mother and grandmother who are prepared to spend a lot of money, isn't that sort of the point of the businesses' marketing? Imagine my shock when an employee stood by glaring at me and my children, making rude comments as they played. I'll be honest, the entire situation was pretty bizarre, and it is now the second issue we have had with Ace. Which is unfortunate because we are a family of home remodelers, and will now find another spot to buy all of our supplies. read more
