I do not recommend this service when in Salem. We called for a taxi and was told it be 5-10 mins. The woman took 30 mins, no apologies for being so late. It was pouring rain so we got extremely wet. Then the woman spoke minimal English and when asked to pay with a credit card she argued then had to call her manager for help with credit card system. Paid 9 dollars for the worst taxi ride in my life. Not worth the money or your time. read more

They take advantage of tourists and charge ridiculous rates when they know you're not a local.

I'm not quite sure why this taxi company got such low ratings but they saved us from being stranded and late to the airport today. We had a great experience with them! We couldn't get Uber or any taxi to come get us at 5:00 AM. We needed to board by 6:40 AM. After calling multiple taxi companies and trying to get Uber and Lyft, we called Salem Taxi. The girl was very sweet, fast, professional, and straight forward. She got someone to us within 15-20 mins or less. The driver was professional and kind. He texted us that he was on his way and when he arrived. The taxi trip from Peabody to the airport was $55 and we wanted to tip him but he said it was fine and not to worry about it. He was very professional and friendly which we appreciate! We got to the airport and made it on our flight as they were boarding! Thank you for saving us Salem Taxi! read more

I live in Salem and used their service every day for almost a year. Today I needed my dog taken to the vet. They were picking us up for a while now but this time dispatch didnt want to listen to me. They picked me up 15 minutes earlier than they were supposed to be here. Drove me to the wrong adress. Charged me way more money, he didnt even have a meter going he just said the number $15 and than said ok, ok, $10. Even though everywhere is Salem price should be $6. Well lies. They were really rude to me because I was not speaking Spanish too and didnt want to talk on English at all! I called them back to pick me up from the vet and when the driver arrived (20 min later) he didnt even want to open a window he just denied to let me and my dog in the car. And U did tell ahead of the time I have a med sized dog. So no! Salem taxi never again! read more

One of Salem Taxi Co.'s drivers, in typical taxi fashion, used my driveway to pull a u-turn and smashes my parking sign. The sign was so smashed and lodged into his undercarriage, the dope had to use his jack to lift his taxi up and get the sign out. He apologizes, and promises to return with tools to fix the sign. I figured give him the benefit of the doubt, and I waited over a month to write this review. Safe to say the guy is not returning to fix the sign. Glad I took his number down as he drove away. I wouldn't use their services, as the driver was careless and could have ran a person over. My sign was 8 feet tall on a bright saturday afternoon and he didn't break, so no excuses. And to top it off, he weasels away, consequence free? not now, in the day of internet reviews. hope it was worth it loser. read more

I'm impressed. Considering this towns history with its past cab companies, Salem Taxi is a major improvement to the community that provides a well needed service to those without cars. In the past, the cab companies had beat up, run down vehicles and usually rude drivers.. then comes Salem Taxi with their nice luxury late model sedans, and having had to use them numerous times, I have found that their drivers are always nice friendly people and they don't drive all crazy like some of those other cabbies have. The gentleman I spoke with described a very good customer service, text when driver was 15 min away, text on arrival, and an expectation that the car would be 5 to 10 minutes early. Sounded great, did not happen. I called after the scheduled time had past, got a poor excuse and the car showed up 20 minutes late. Really poor service delivery. 2 stars is generous, but I had many reasonable experiences with this company before tonight's fiasco, which taken by itself deserves negative stars. I called for a ride to the Salem commuter rail station. After the driver picked me up, he told me that he was picking up another passenger down the street. He pointed in the direction that I needed to go, but then it became clear that he was going to go in the other direction, with traffic lights. I was telling him that my train was at 8:40, in about 15 minutes, and he was picking me up in Danvers. He said he understood, but the dispatcher told him to do both pickups, and he would be fired if he disobeyed. He suggested I call the company. The dispatcher, a woman, claimed to be surprised that the cab driver said he would be fired if he took me directly to my train. She seemed to see nothing wrong with having the driver go in the other direction to pick up the other passenger, and said that her supervisor would call me, which he hasn't. Throughout my brief ride - see the end of it in a moment - I was getting more and more assertive, which the supervisor called making threats. I said I wouldn't pay if the cab picked up the other passenger and I didn't make the train. I said if I didn't make my train, I would never use them again and I would give them a horrible review here (which I haven't quite done, since I've acknowledged that this experience was unusual for them). As it became clear that I might not make the train, and I wasn't yet on the way there, I told the driver that if he continued driving me, he was accepting that he wouldn't get paid unless I got there on time. Finally, I threatened to call the police if he didn't let me out, which he did. Fortunately, I was able to catch a bus to the next train. It doesn't take a business genius to figure out that if someone calls for a cab to a train station, then the person has to be there by a certain time. It's also obvious that something is really wrong when a passenger has to threaten to call the police to have the cab driver stop and let him out when a ride has gone wrong. I don't know why tonight's ride was so different from my other experiences, but I don't see myself ever using this company again. read more

Aweful. The drivers are very dishonest. They include their own tip, the drivers can create/charge their own fares. If you are nice and include a tip, they will charge the amount hoping you will add in a tip to the one they already included for themselves. One man at night made sexual endoendo's towards my female companion, getting involved with a private conversation. When you call to complain, the dispatch will blame the customer(you) and not the lying, cheating, theiving drivers. Watch out. Dispatch is on the side of the drivers. The drivers charge extra and include their own tip, hoping you add a tip to that amount. read more

One of the drivers here is extremely rude. He also gets out and walks around the car every single time he drops me off to check the back seats after I leave. It's awkward and sketchy. I've never had a taxi driver do that in my entire time of using taxi services and he gives me bad vibes. He's super fidgety and will not stop moving around in his seat as if he's on drugs or something. He's snapped at me to not slam his car door, but I didn't. I closed it normally. He's also constantly texting and he almost blew through multiple red lights the last time I was in his car, and then slowly crept up as the light was still red so he was practically in the middle of the intersection. I wish I could request not to get certain drivers but I can't, so I'm probably not using Salem Taxi anymore. read more

Good news is that they give you a flat rate to the airport of $40. Bad news is that you get what you pay for. Called 12+ hours in advance to make a reservation for pick up at the airport late Saturday night which was somehow forgotten/dispatcher didn't relay the info. I called at 11:02pm to ask where my ride was, the driver was called by the dispatcher at 11:22pm to tell him to haul a** down the Lynnway to pick me up, so the dispatcher waited 20 minutes to call the driver to come get me. Bottom line: this company is not reliable. I have used the service probably 8 times over the past few years for Logan rides. Usually I find the drivers to be nice, friendly people. However, I have had a problem on the last 3 rides. I thought it was just me - but I can see the reviews saying the exact same thing. 1. I called to arrange a pickup for a friend landing at Logan. The taxi waited only a few minutes and left while she was still finding her way to the exit after her plane landed. She called him, and he was already down the road and bitched at her for calling him back. This happened at 11 PM. 2. I called in advance to arrange a dropoff, picking up from my house in Salem. At 10 minutes past the reservation time, there was no taxi, so I called. I got the excuse "Oh, they wrote it on the wrong side of the notebook, and I never would have seen it. I'll get someone over there right away." It ended up being a total of 40 minutes late. I was very close to missing my flight because of this. Any discount on the fare? No. 3. Called in advance to arrange a pickup, and paid by credit card in advance over the phone (because I have learned from past experience that they won't take credit payments after a certain hour of the night). When I got dropped off and handed the driver a tip, he got angry - "what is this?" -- the dispatch hadn't told him I was prepaid. This all seems like a completely chronic problem with them. The dispatchers do not communicate sufficiently with the drivers - and they're not treating customers well. There is good competition for Logan service: I recommend North Shore Shuttle. They're professional and reliable. They cost $5-10 more; I can tell you, when you're waiting for a ride that's half an hour late because the cab company screwed up, that's a total bargain. Spend the extra money and use a service you can count on. read more

I would say be cautious of calling them. They have a tendency not to turn on the meter and the prices always change. I went four blocks because I had luggage and the route had poor access to sidewalk. Again only four blocks to the train station and it was six bucks. Complete and utter incompetence. They could not find the location to pick me up even though EVERYONE in Salem is familiar with it. Had the audacity to lie to me and said they came by and honked but I was standing there the entire time, with no where to go. Waited over 45 mins. THEN, when I do finally get picked up with no apology the jerk driver stops and picks up one of his co-workers from a local apartment complex. Avoid at all cost. Before the time of Uber we used to use this taxi company all the time & they had their ups and downs. We called them yesterday to order a taxi to take us to the airport at 5.30am and they confirmed. Today after they were 10mins late we called them and they said they forgot our request and that they sent a driver on their way. 20 min later still no cab. We ended up ordering an Uber but MISSED our flight from Logan due to the lack of delivery by Salem Taxi. Their cabs are run down the drivers don't speak English and many times they have other passengers in the car. I'm done doing business with this company. read more

Like everyone said, I've had terrible experiences with taxis in Salem in the past but Salem taxi was great. The driver was really nice and arrived on time. Even when you call the dispatcher he sounds calm and organized whereas other services seem like they hate taking phone calls. I asked for a 5am pickup and there were no complaints. No stars for today's performance. We have used this company for a few years and the drivers are good. It is not always easy to communicate with the dispatcher as it is noisy. Today the guy thought it was funny to try and ape my British accent . A very foolish thing to do with a paying customer, I hung up on him and called someone else. This is the worst taxi company I have ever used. They were suppose to pick me up and when I waited until 10 minutes after and called, they said they couldn't find my address . Basically they were just leaving me . Finally directed him to my house. Showed up with another person in the cab. Then when I tried to pay with a credit card, the driver said it was too early and to call them later. When I called and tried to pay later the person asked me why I didn't stop at an atm teller. Before using them I checked on here and was like, Whoa, how does anyone have a 5-Star rating. yelp is full of people complaining about one thing or another, almost no business is rated that well, but I seriously do love these guys. Granted the dispatcher's english isn't fantastic so that can sometimes be an issue, but in my experience they are always on time, sometimes even early, their cars are in immaculate condition and the service is always friendly. Also within the city of Salem its a flat rate which a) saves you a bunch of money, and b) ensures you don't get ridden all over town while they run up the meter. Same price anywhere you go, so you know the driver is trying to get you there ASAP. So long story short, believe it or not, a cab company of all things on Yelp, deserve all 5 stars. read more

If you don't speak that much English that's fine but if you are a taxi driver I should hope you would understand phrases like "stop" or "let me out". I told the driver several times to stop and pull over on my street and he just kept saying "yes". When I told him he went too far he said "ok" and it wasn't until I started yelling and gesturing for him to turn around. I made a 6:30 reservation. At 6:33 I called to confirm everything was set. I was assured he was "On his way" after waiting in the freezing cold, at 6:40 I called again twice. My calls were ignored. The driver finally showed up at 6:45. He didn't speak much English and had no idea where he was taking us. Needless to say this was a less than ideal situation. Next time I will stick to my fiancés recommendation and use North Shore Taxi. At least if they can't make a reserved time they are upfront and manage your expectations.
