This was an unexpected little gem. I ordered the massaman chicken and it was so flavorful and creamy. I love the plate presentation and their ice tea was wonderful. The service was amazing. Everyone was so friendly and happy. I was particularly grateful to Jeff, the bartender, who made me a clean margarita with agave instead of simple syrup. There are so many things I love about the restaurant experience in Sanford. The first is how the community comes out to celebrate new restaurants. I like to reserve my "5" star ratings for places that couldn't get things any better. Honestly I would give a 4.8 only because the Pad Thai just needed a little chili oil but once we raised the spice level to our liking, it was very good. And this restaurant deserves more than a 4 so I had to go with a 5. The Panang Curry was the BEST I've ever had; Wouldn't change a thing!! The Fresh Spring Rolls were delish as well. I could have eating the peanut sauce, served with the fresh spring rolls, on a slice of bread and been happy! The service was outstanding! Adam took very good care of us. He had a great personality and was very helpful. The environment was cozy even while the place was busy. We thought the pricing was reasonable for the quality and quantity of the meal, an appetizer, 2 entrees and waters. I can see us frequenting Saladang quite often and looking forward to trying many more items on their menu but it will be difficult not getting the Panang Curry! Went to lunch with eight people and the service was excellent. The food was very good and we did not feel rushed at all.

I went to Saladang to experience the new portion of their restaurant that serves sushi and hot pot. That side of the building is a bit more sparsly decorated and has yet to receive a liquor license. But the staff is great and very attentive. I tried the hot pot with spicy beef broth on one side and vegetable on the other. And had a serving of each meat and veg offering. The spice level on the beef broth was great for me but might be a bit intense for others. And the selection of meat and veg were not massive but they were all good. read more

Everything is always great and perfect at Saladang. I just moved from Houston and I am a picky Thai person. But Saladang did not disappoint. I wish they would bring back the hotpot and open up that lower level with the robot bringing your food around. Those hot-pots were a really great niche for a restaurant in Sanford. We feel like family when we come here!!! I Just wanted to share our experience at the new Saladang Thai Kitchen. From our very first visit, to my birthday in January, random week nights, take out and last night for valentine's day. We have tried over half the menu and everything has been delicious. The service has always been great and our cups never went empty. Just wanted to share some of the food we ate. I didn't get a picture of the brussels sprouts and realized half way through devouring the crab cakes (that are full of crab meat!!) the food was picture worthy. I highly recommend coming with friends, a large appetite and ordering multiple things, then sharing plates as the serving size is very generous. (the desserts have varied each time we have been there, last night they had an extra special thai dessert that was a coconut cream with jellies and fruit. Saladang Thai Kitchen in Sanford, NC served up some of the worst service I've ever experienced in any restaurant. The food was good, but absolutely not worth the nightmare of dealing with this staff. From the moment we walked in, we were ignored. It took forever just to get menus, then another 20+ minutes before anyone bothered to take a drink order. When drinks finally arrived, the waiter (dark curly hair, wearing a black-and-white checkered bandana) slammed two Coke cans on the table without saying a word--no greeting, no name, nothing. We waited another 15 minutes for straws. It didn't stop there. Nearly 30 more minutes passed before our food order was taken. When dishes came out, they were delivered one plate at a time. My plate was literally dumped at the end of the table, and I had to get up and walk over to grab it myself because the server couldn't be bothered to take two steps around the chair. There was no obstruction--just pure laziness or indifference. No one checked on us. They forgot my grandson's kids' Pad Thai entirely and brought it out late. Other tables around us were clearly frustrated too, so this isn't a one-off--it's a pattern of terrible service. Bottom line: The food might be decent, but the service is beyond awful. Rude, inattentive, and completely unprofessional. Save yourself the aggravation and go anywhere else. This place does not value its customers, and we will never return. read more

I never do this ... but tonight was quite an experience and should be shared. This was our first time to this restaurant. We had heard great things about it from others ... however, our experience was less than great. Here is a summary: We were the second couple to arrive, so definitely not busy ... yet. We ordered hot tea and got a single cup, not a typical pot for refreshing the drink. We ordered the wings (supposed to be 6) as an appetizer, Bang-Bang Shrimp, Tilapia and a side of broccoli in oyster sauce. The first dish to be delivered was the Bang-Bang Shrimp, not the appetizer. We asked why the entree before the appetizer and the waiter said, "They cook things as fast as they can and we bring whatever is done first. This happens a lot." What? So, we asked for the dish to be returned and we would wait for the appetizer. Within a few minutes a second wait-staff brought the wings ... 5 of them. We ate them and never saw any wait-staff until we were finished. At which point, we questioned why only 5 and he did not have an answer. However, both entrees were served soon thereafter ... and while eating the Tilapia the mystery was solved, the missing wing was in the bottom of that bowl! Never once during our meal did our waiter stop to ask us how things were and if we needed anything. It would have been nice to have a knife, but we both assumed that since one was not with the wrapped fork and large spoon, that knives were not available. (our mistake for not asking). So, instead, we 'ripped off' pieces of large shrimp and munched away at long stems of broccoli and pushed full pieces of lettuce into our mouths, one section at a time. At the end of our 'tasty' meal, the waiter finally stopped to ask how everything was. When we told him about the 'missing' wing mystery, he said that he would tell the cook and find out why that happened. (His answer was surprising and probably best not to include in this review [for the cook's sake].) Needless to say our first experience and impression was not particularly favorable. WOW! What a gem I stumbled upon. Live in Pinehurst so I'm always having to get my Thai fix elsewhere. Saladang hit it out of the park. The owner, Kevin, (an awesome, down to earth well-versed and experienced in all things Thai) recommended the crab cakes (no fillers in these things, wow) the Thai noodles with Fish curry (another WOW) and the Ginger shrimp with glass noodles (so very authentic). I can't wait to go back and check off some more dishes from my list. The atmosphere is warm and inviting and I loved to "look up" at the ceiling. Finish off your meal with a delicious piece of coconut cake. I don't like coconut, or at least I thought I didn't. The flavors were delish. 5 stars all the way around. Pinehurst take note.
