I came here on a PROM night. Enough said on how the crowds were, let alone, how long the wait would be. So I approached it with an expectation of an hour wait, and to leave to go somewhere else. Surprisingly, it was only 20 mins and was more organized than I had read in the previous reviews for this place. So my family and I stared and critiqued the fashion show in the waiting area, wondering why these kids didn't pick a restaurant out of in the city of DC (since they had a limo drop them off). Then, I figured they aren't as savvy as my husband and I were at their age. So to speak, my family and I were decked in jeans and hoodies (it was pouring) and sitted right smack in the middle of two parties of prom goers. So I wondered then, by the way we looked, we aren't as savvy as I thought we were. I even contemplated on being seated with the casual commoners on the other side but we were hungry and at this point, ready to eat. Anyhow, checking out the prices, I see that it is the same price as we would pay out in DC so these prom goers should've really went out and splurged on true gourmet. Let me tell you, the onion flavored soup was mild and watered down, the salad and the dressing left a bitter taste in your mouth and was watered down halfway through the salad. The chef was a great performer, my husband and I ordered the Lobster, Scallop and Shrimp platter, and the seafood was not overcooked -even for being grilled (hooray!). The lobster tails were cut into smaller pieces, and our scallops were huge. Overall, I had too much food on my plate, that I couldn't even find my seafood under all the veggies, rice and lo mein. The taste of it all was great. So one less stars only for steep price (in the middle of Hoodbridge!) and the soup and salad. But I truly enjoyed the lobster here better than Red Lobster who always tend to overcook my lobster. read more

I came here today with my family to enjoy a lunch meal from the moment we stepped in the door we were greeted with no respect . We sat down to order the waitress was rude towards us if we asked for anything additional. We let the waitress know that we had food allergies to mushroom so to please not add any mushrooms to the soup or anything. The couple that was sat next to us ordered mushroom with their habachi meal . I asked the cook if they could simply cook my spouses meal separate from everyone else's so that he doesn't have an allergic reaction. The cook Rudely said if I have a problem with the way they cook the food then to next time let the host at the front know. I didn't know that was a rule anywhere because if someone has a food allergies and you let them know prior to cooking then that should be enough. I went and asked for a manager and explained that my family and I were being treated with disrespect at the table by the cook and the explained all of what he said towards us. The manager rudely looked at me rolled his eyes and said the cook is right and loudly said ITS COMMON SENSE THAT I SHOULD TELL THEM ABOUT A FOOD ALLERGY AT THE DOOR . I told him where is a sign that says that if I'm telling them before they cook my food to please not cook with mushrooms on the same griddle or just cook our food in the back that shouldn't be a problem they would have done that for a white family. It feels like anytime a black person comes to this establishment we are treated like our money isn't good enough to be respected. The white couple across from us was getting yes ma'am and sir and we were getting attitudes and smart undertones for absolutely nothing. I gathered my family and told them to let's go because if you don't value my food safety or the fact my loved one could have a reaction then this isn't a place I should eat. We never received an im sorry it sure no problem we can accommodate your food allergies needs like other restaurants do. I highly recommend that you do not eat here. a server spilled water all over the table. Two drinks that were on our table fell and flooded our table. My brand new iPhone so happened to be on this table. My iPhone wasn't working when I went home that night because the server took it in the back to soak it in rice to prevent water damage. He got rice grains stuck in my charger port that I had to go to Sprint to repair. My phone has since been running very slow and freezing. I'm sure I have slight water damage. When I tried to talk to the boss about it, Gina Chang, she told me I "should've had a case" and didn't even discount my check. I had to demand a discount and even then got only 2.00 off. When i got furious she snatched the check from me and said "fine I'll take care of it" and still didn't offer any solutions for my phone. I called in and brought my phone in the next day to prove it wasn't working. Still no help. Currently filing lawsuit! read more

We went to Sakura, for my girlfriend mother birthday. We were in Northern VA for the day. This place reminded one that we went in short pump. Prices were pretty reasonable. The wait staff was great. Great customer service. The food was overall pretty good. Sushi was on point. If I am ever back in the area. I will def be back for sure. read more

My boyfriend and I had planned to catch a movie around the corner so we arrived giving ourselves ample time on a Saturday night. We sat at a table near the bar and ordered dumplings for an appetizer and sushi rolls. The California roll was supposed to come with caviar but did not. The lady that took our order double-checked that we wanted it in our other rolls and we said we did... But when they came out, they were missing it. The appetizer came out last. WE WAITED ALMOST 30 MINUTES for our check. Our waitress disappeared, so we had to ask random waitresses walking by to get us our check. 3 TIMES! In the end, we just got up and got the check and paid at the bar. We missed our movie and will not be returning due to the atrocious service. Worst service I have ever experienced. This is by far one of my favorite places to go. I have tried so many hibachi and sushi bars and Sakura is always the freshest and most tasty. We have always had wonderful service there and at this point, we are regulars and can order our "usual." Their hibachi is always cooked to perfection and you always have enough to take home an additional meal. Their yum yum sauce is thick rather than runny like many other places. The sushi is fantastically fresh. All of their avocados are cut on the spot and never browning. I also find the sushi much larger than most places (and not just extra sticky rice). At this point, the sushi chefs always throw in extras and make our experience great. We come here for the teppanyaki to get the kids some entertainment during dinner. Even with growing Japanese eating choices in the area, we still find the place busy for dinner often. Truth is, most of don't find it worth it to venture onto a 35 min beltway drive or further for Japanese style dining. This place is just right for a family meal. We showed up on time and the hostess wouldn't even acknowledge anybody. There were dozens of people standing there staring at her. So finally we tell someone who looks like the manager/owner that we had a reservation. She asked if we checked in. Well no we didn't, but that's what we were trying to do obviously!! After "checking in," we were told it would be 30-45 minutes. Why do we wait when we made a reservation?! THIS RATING IS MAINLY BASED ON THE SUSHI BAR AREA/EXPERIENCE: The ONLY reason we continue to eat at this place is because we love their sushi chef Vee (sp?)! I will only sit at the sushi bar and only when he is there. Vee has always been amazing as far as the sushi and always makes it a point to check on us and keep up entertained with light conversation. I was upset with our waitress once because the restaurant was practically empty and she not once checked up on us or gave us refills on water & hot tea.. Vee offered to do all those things and has always done so for us. It's a shame that they share tips because it really should go to the person/people who actually gave you great service. When we go and they are a bit busy, Vee will hand out mini appetizers all around the bar and from time to time has handed out desserts :) AWESOME. The service here otherwise has not been great... even when they aren't busy. Anytime I need or want something, I have always had to track down a waitress. Ridiculous. Some of the worst sushi I've ever had and I've eaten at most of the greatest places in the states and other countries. The service was slow, shrimp tempura roll was hard and not crispy, the hand roll order was wrong and the "free" chicken teriyaki bites were hard as a rock and flavorless. Bad selling promotion of your hibachi skills. I will not be coming back here and not bringing my family again. The prices aren't justified by the food or service, but the only saving grace is my kids loved to see the hibachi grill flames from the sushi bar. Otherwise.. I made a reservation for their party room a week in advance, confirmed we were keeping our reservation by mid week and did a walk through with family the day before our scheduled event. We were a party of 20, reservation was scheduled for 7, we arrived about 7:15, we where not seated until 7:35. I thought they would have been ready for a us, that was the first disappointment. Our servers were the worst. They were not available to refill drinks, remove plates and when she did show up she told us she had another table, I was floored at that comment. There's been a couple of times they've gotten my sushi order wrong just make sure you check before you leave. Service is good. The owner is always courteous and friendly. I really enjoy Sakura, this my go to place for sushi. The guys go out of their way with the extra's, like the crab salad over cucumbers or the seared salmon with the yum yum sauce style dressing. As you entered Sakura, you are met by a super strong odor of oil. The floors have a layer of filth. Their is no greeting. They are also poorly staffed and over priced. The staff needs a makeover. They don't understand how to deal with customers. They are just order takers and are not empowered to deal with issues that arise. read more

If you only want sushi, which I usually do, there is a private sushi area where you don't have to sit at a hibachi table. This is my go-to sushi restaurant in the Woodbridge area because they give you a free crab imitation salad, the sushi is tasty, there is usually no wait on this sushi side, and food comes out promptly. My favorites include the spicy salmon hand roll, philadelphia hand roll, and salmon sashimi appetizer. Prices are very reasonable, service is great, and the chef is very friendly and talkative if you sit at the bar. read more

I had the most horrible restaurant experience. Previously, I didn't come here because the food always made me feel bloated. However, I made an exception since it was my niece' birthday and this happens to be her favorite restaurant. Despite reservations, we waited at least 45 minutes to be seated. Once seated, we were placed in a remote section of the restaurant that was cold and empty. Despite the freezing temperatures, we had high spirits. Our chef then entered the cooking area and immediately lit the hot cooktop. At a table full of children there was no greeting or anything just straight to business. After about 10 minutes, he was done and rolling his cart away. When brought to the managers attention he gave me a smirk and said " he"s tired and there's nothing I can do about it. Do you want a discount?" Now that really took me over the top. I don't come to restaurants with the anticipation of a discount. If I wanted a 5 minute meal we could have gone to the food court at the mall. The entire staff saw this as a joke and didn't afford us the same experience as other customers. Sushi wasn't bad. I had the Red Volcano roll. Not spicy like it says I'm the food description but still tasty. They give you good portions for the money you spend for food on the hibachi. The miso soup was tasty enough that my 4 year old son liked it. This is a poor man's Benihana, u like the ones I'm used to in Los Angeles. But it's good. Some of the sushi roll options had me scratching my head. They didn't make sense as roll I would want to try.
