Came here on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't too busy. They won't seat you until your whole party arrives, which can be a little inconvenient, but once seated the experience was solid. Our hibachi chef was very entertaining, did the classic tricks, which the kids loved. Big shoutout to our waiter who kept drinks topped off and even let us know gratuity was already included for our party of six (plus a baby). They also offer a military discount, which is nice. After weaving through the aisles of the nearby Ikea for what seemed like all afternoon, my daughter, wife, and I selected Sakura for dinner. We hadn't been to a Japanese steakhouse for some time and thought we were overdue. We arrived around 530pm on a Saturday evening and were promptly seated at a hibachi table. Their dining room was larger than the typical Japanese steakhouse we had frequented, in the past with perhaps twelve (12) hibachi grills to sit around. Their menu was the typical steakhouse menu with single and combination dishes. Their prices were a little cheaper than other similar places we have dined at in the past. Additionally, they did not charge extra if you wanted fried rice instead of steamed rice with your meal. My daughter selected the filet mignon, my wife shrimp and scallops, and I filet mignon and scallops. Both my daughter's and my filets were cooked medium-rare and were delicious. The portions were also very generous. The scallops were disappointing as our cook didn't season them while on the grill. Speaking of our cook, he was very distracted cooking for us to the point where some of the food was burned, particularly the shrimp appetizers. The grilled vegetables were nicely prepared and included broccoli and mushrooms, which we hadn't seen elsewhere. The cook added yum yum sauce to the fried rice, which was new to us. None of us cared much for it as it gave the fired rice an unwanted creamy taste. The portions of fried rice, though, were huge, and the others at our table seemed to enjoy it. Our server was amiable and attentive. He did a good job keeping us hydrated from the somewhat salt-heavy-handed cook. We enjoyed our visit. Sakura doesn't serve a scoop of sherbert or ice cream at the end of the meal, which we missed. Despite the place being pretty empty we still waited a long while for the chef to come out to start cooking even with the whole table full of people, so it wasn't like they were waiting for the whole table to fill. I like the sushi at Sakura in Woodbridge. It's always pretty fresh and well prepared. What I don't like is the bathroom. It's so gross--worse than a gas station on the highway. I found this place to be just ok. My husband and I just had a massage and wanted a generally quick bite to eat. We didn't feel like the hibachi experience so we opted for sushi. We were the only table sitting for sushi aside from occasional take out orders coming in-out. The hibachi place was hopping but the sushi area was quiet. I liked the seaweed salad. It was fresh and balancedZ the sushi was kind of mediocre. I did not like the specialty rolls. They were not well made. The soft shell crab was overly fishy and tasted burned on the outside. Had to drop the stars because of the hibachi meal I had for carry out. The toro was bomb nice, fatty and just so fresh tasting. The yellowtail not so much. A couple of pieces tasted kind of old and it just wasn't that great. Now the hibachi was all the way flavorless especially the "fried rice" which tasted like old rice with some eggs thrown in it. Didn't even have the mixed veggies or the fried" taste I'm use to. I had better from Trader Joe's in the frozen section! The chicken livers and shrimp were the only good thing that tasted well. The entrance is as welcoming as you can get on a Monday. Place wasn't crowded, but on a Monday evening, there were 3 tables full of people, which is usually a great news. As we sat on the fourth table, that as well didn't take too long to fill up. These are definitely good signs for a teppanyaki restaurant. Our server, Lee was really attentive and did great with us. Never missed a bit to tend our table. Although the soup should have been warmer, the salad a little less bitter, the appetizers did not fail the mark of great taste. My wife had chicken liver, which was cooked to perfection, and my mushrooms were hot and juicy. Rest of the food tasted great, especially with the yum yum sauce; and they also came in good portion. This was my first time ever walking out of a restaurant before my food even came. The experience was horrible from the moment we sat down. We placed our order and 5 minutes later we were told that they were out of half of the stuff we ordered. Then, the server spilled hot soup on my leg and my phone. Finally the Chef came and immediately started cooking...he provided none of the fan fare that usually comes at the Japanese Steakhouse. He then proceeded to tell us that they no longer close at 10, they close at 9 now and he doesn't get paid overtime. Wow. We came in at 8:30 so if you don't want to cook past 9 take that up with your manager. Then, a guest in the other party was allergic to mushrooms and, even though she let the server know, they still had them mixed in the vegetables. She reminded the chef and he says to the server "what do you want me to do about it". They bring another side of veggies to cook without mushrooms and he proceeds to scoop half of the vegetables off of the grill because they were now extra. I asked what he was going to do with them and he said throw them away. So you would rather throw them away than to just continue cooking them and serve them?! I called the manager over to tell him that we were fed up with the Chef's attitude and of course we received no support from the manager. Now they're going to have even more food to throw away because we left. I will not patronize a place where we are treated poorly by someone literally standing in front of us cooking our food. This is the most terrible establishment i've ever been to. Multiple people have reported being sick in the last few months from eating there. They have a rodent infestation which causes them to have to block parts of the kitchen off to the dining area. The food is not kept in a sanitary environment and is riddled with cross contamination. The bald manager with the glasses is extremely rude and often ridicules his employees harshly in front of customers. Which makes for an awful dining experience. Food: it was decent food. I like the fact they give salad and soup for beginning dish. The salad was ok and sauce was good. I order teriyaki chicken with two shrimp that they offer. It pretty decent. I dont taste much teriyaki on there but they have some dipping sauce to save it. They give good portion. Food is might be little expensive base on the price but u get salad and soup so i think it not bad. Service: then manager was really friendly. He seem to be happy all the time. Greeting customers and thanks them for coming. My server wasnt that happy. She looks kinda mean. And when we ask something she doesn't seen to be happy to do it. My last Sakura posting was a 3 star rating, 5 years ago... What a difference from my 6/12/19 visit...Instead of ordering my usual shrimp/something else combo, I changed up completely and went with the filet mignon/scallops duo, and boy, did I hit the jackpot. First for an appetizer I had the chicken livers, which Never disappoints, cooked and seasoned perfectly... This time for my entree I steered clear of the shrimp, just for a change, and the lobster because on my last visit the lobster lacked flavor and was overcooked... In closing, my scallops tasted great along with mouth watering tenderness....my steak, mouth watering also with every bite...NO knife necessary... My only worry this time was that I have NEVER, surprisingly, ordered filet mignon, mainly because I went for marbling because the experts declare that's where the flavor is... Well, flavor, be damned this time...But for a moment I thought I made a mistake....I was under the impression that cylinder shaped meat would be cooked that way, BUT our chef cut it up into small cubes, much go my delight... That piece of meat and my scallops were seasoned and cooked so well that not even Emerill could have surpassed this dish.... Another reason I have not ordered scallops over the years is we all have read stories of them being overcooked as a rule, but my taste for scallops made this decision and I won..... Ok. So my wife and I went to this place on Sun (1-20-19), and we being out of Towner's visiting family wanted sushi! A friend recommended this place since we were looking for a place for good to great sushi! My goodness we may have found the place in Woodbridge, VA!! So we sat in the bar since the restaurant is mostly for teppanyaki and it was just the 2 of us! It was fortunate we diid sit in the bar because it gave a clear view of the 4 TV's in the waiting area of the restaurant! Awesome! So we ordered Godzilla Roll (mmmmm, good when freshly made and at your table ! Oh my!) & Super Daddy Roll. Wife got 2 orders of salmon rolls, soft crab roll, and 4 pieces of nigiri salmon! Let me tell ya, the salmon nigiri pieces where huge and rice was small! Holy cow the pieces tasted fresh and yummy!! Mmmmm!! The Godzilla roll was temp warm, and a bit spicy but taste marvelous! Mmmm! The Super Daddy Roll was awesome with every bite! The wasabi tasted freshly made, not like out of a packet like other places do! What was a great surprise is that the sushi chef that made our sushi made an additional spicy tuna 2 piece item! It was also great! I ate of course and enjoyed it as much as my other sushi! Here is the kicker, the next night Mon (1-21-19) we invited our family! Sister - in - law, nephew, auntie & uncle! So there was 6 of us and we decided to do the teppanyaki dinner this time! We were afraid because the restaurant wouldn't sit us unless everyone in the party was present!! Lucky we asked if we can be seated and we can order for our nephew and uncle! They sat another couple at our table, Jim & Meagan! So I had the steak and shrimp. Wife had the lobster, scallops, and shrimp combo! Auntie had the chicken and shrimp, nephew had the teriyaki chicken, uncle had the steak & shrimp and Sis-in-law had the rib eye dinner! Mine tasted great! Wife tasted great! I even had a taste of the scallops and lobster my wife had! Mmmmm! So the only problem this night was the cook that was cooking the food in front of us forgot my Sis-in-law rib eye dinner! When they brought out the entree it was a half order and mostly all fat! Freakin' dissatisfying! She was upset! So the cook cane out later when the correct and full order of rib eye! Done the right way! The manager on duty gave a discount on the rib eye meal which is the right thing to do! But I know my wife and I would be back whenever we are visiting Woodbridge, CA again! Went here on a Friday night, and they were quite busy. The hostess said it was a 15 minute wait so of course we go to the bar. Cocktails: nothing stands out really.. a lot of fruity colored drinks. I have had an entirely different experience with dining out these past few months, as we all have. Like any Hibachi restaurant, The best part of the experience is watching the chef prepare your meal. Of course, one does not get to experience when ordering takeout. However the flavors were consistent with my dine in experiences. They restaurant does seem a bit overwhelmed, which is understandable in the current circumstances and trying to accommodate all of the requests that are normally handled table side, like extra garlic butter, more sauce or less pepper. However, overall, they were able to make it happen. One downside is that with the take out experience every thing was nickel and dimes to include any extra sauces. Then, somehow, both times I ordered, I was charged for extra sauces that failed to make it into the bag. The soup and salad are underwhelming as well, but that's true whether doing dine in or take out. I would definitely recommend Sakura in person or as a take out meal, just temper your expectations during this new "normal." read more

The owner greeted us at the door and was very kind. The food was really good (a bit better tasting than normal). The chef was very good and made some jokes that actually made us laugh. It was a good night. The only complaint is the service. The service was pretty bad. Every the chef was complaining about the waitress. I've been coming to Sakura for many years and the food quality and service has been declining year after year. We went in today and our itamae aka hibachi chef was terrible. He was absolutely rude, did not say a single word when cooking, (which is sad because my kids like the entertainment) and didn't even ask anyone on the table how they wanted their meat cooked. Their soup was straight up hot water with mushrooms, never got my empty soda glass refilled and half of the men's bathroom has been out of service for months. There were only 3 hibachi tables being served so it wasn't even busy. Sometimes all you need is at least mediocre service but this place doesn't perform as they used to. It seems as if customer service is not a priority to a lot of the people that work there. It's sad but I will not be coming here anymore. read more

He was condescending and extremely careless. He did not care about anything and would laugh any time I would ask a question. He should not be in front of house. This is the lowest rating I have ever given. First, it is not a bad place, it may have been a bad night. We were greeted as we walked in by a pleasant young lady and young man. I ordered one of their specity drinks, "Avenger", I sent it back, it was very sour and it tasted like the orange juice was sour. I do not know if the bartender put to much sour in it or it was the orange juice. Then I order two sushi rolls and they were mediocre at best and did not seem to fresh and not well made. It took a minute to get our habachi chef, but when he finally came he was funny and very entertaining. The food was bland and did not have a lot of flavor, unless you smothered it in the yum yum sauce. The decor is very nice and it is very inviting from the outside. I normally visit this restaurant and have pretty good Service. Recently I visited 10 minutes before they were going to closed for lunch. The gentleman at the door told me I could not be Served because most of the Servers had went home. There was one couple that was sitting and their food was being cooked in front of them. The children were afraid of having a 'fire" show, so we agreed to have the chef limit any flair ups. That did take a little out of the dinning experience there. However the chef did a good job of cooking. I feel that this place gives you large portions for your meal. As a matter of fact, I have never had such large portions at a Japanese Steakhouse before. I have gone to this place several times. The last two times have been the absolute worst! Last night I took my family for dinner and what I experienced was utterly ridiculous. First off the wait to be seated was not terribly long which was nice when we were seated at our table we clearly had a new server as she was not able to place our special order for my son who has a severe allergy to all dairy which required him to gave a liver transplant. I told the server what he would eat and about his allergy. Three people came by to verify his order would be made in the back which we have routinely had done during previous dining experiences and normally would come out by the time we have finished the soup course and halfway through the salad. As we were sitting at the table we noticed another guest and their son throw up on the floor. The young man throwing up on the floor was not the most egregious part of the experience, the way that the staff cleaned up the mess was most troubling. We notified our server that someone had thrown up on the floor she notified someone else to come with a broom to sweep up yes and someone else came with a mop that did not have sanitizing solution for any water to dry mop the area. Secondly we place the order for my son and it was not brought to our table until well after the chef had prepared every meal at the table, in fact the chef was cleaning the hibachi grill as they brought the food out but only after I had to approach a manager requesting an updated status. I will say that the server did stop by the table after she received a look from me as we were getting our meat course and said oh the kitchen in the back of the house made a mistake and gave his non-dairy food to another person as a to go order however it still is strange that the amount of time it took to place his order. I cannot say with 100% confidence that my son contracting the norovirus or a stomach bug was not directly related to the conditions of the restaurant and the preparation of food in the back of the house. I must only assume that given the fact I witnessed raw meat touching some of the cart as it was wheeled to a table to prepare food that the sanitary conditions in the back of the house mirror the unsanitary conditions in the front of the house. Finally when I received my bill not that I have a problem paying for any of it however I would have thought that there would've been compensation at a minimum the redaction of my sons meal given that it took over an hour for noodle and chicken to be prepared and brought to the table. At least the manager could have offered an apology. read more
