So I'm in the mood for some sushi and when big daddy wants sushi, sushi he will have. I wandered in with a buddy of mine and we headed right up to the sushi bar to watch the man do his thing. The restaurant was clean and modern with most of the floor space taken up by those huge tables that seat a dozen or so people and they cook right in front of you. Now I can only speak about the sushi and I have to say meh, I've definitely had much better. It actually reminded me of sushi I've gotten at Publix. Great service in a strip mall, crowded and a bit loud, partly because half of the restaurant is sit down table service the other half teppanyaki style. I ordered the soft shell crab appetizer, nice tempura, nice flavor, but hard to go wrong with these! Next had the yellow tail (hamachi) sushi style, my favorite sushi, fabulous! Last had the Chilean sea bass cooked perfectly with a ginger sauce with asparagus pieces, whole (mostly raw mushrooms) and white rice! This is the first Japanese steakhouse we've been to where the chefs threw food at the guest and the guests acted lIke trained seals at Sea World trying to catch the food or liquid sent toward them in their mouths. The staff must enjoy being paid to humiliate customers like this. The food was not outstanding. The fish or oyster sauce used on the seafood gave the shrimp and scallops a bitter taste. They were also overcooked. We weren't asked if we wanted fried rice or not, it was just assumed. Fried noodles and vegetables were piled on top of of the rice and protein muddling the flavors together. The so-called ginger sauce was bland and heavy. The white sauce wAs sweet and masked the flavor of the fish. We paid a lot of money to be humiliated. But I guess that is what we've been trained to do. I, for one, am ending my training and will not be back. read more

We ventured here with some out of owners who wanted hibachi Japanese food. This establishment has 8 cooking stations seating 8 people each. If you have less than 8, you need to wait until enough others show up seat at least 6 but preferably 8 people so the chef/cook can do his thing. A waitress takes drink orders and menus selections and then delivers the drinks, a broth soup with some mushroom slices and green onion pieces, the delivers a pre-made salad with some sort of French/curry dressing. The chef then appears in front of this big grill and starts to juggle knife and spatula before beginning to cook the orders of all people sitting around the grill. Selections range from chicken and shrimp-scallops-steak-vegetarian or some combination of those. Everyone also gets fried rice, grilled vegetables, two grilled shrimp and then your protein selection.. everything is dolled out to give each patron an equal portion of above items. It spaced out so you need to eat each course sparingly to feel that it is a complete meal. There is also a ginger sauce and white cream sauce to dip your pieces of meal. The show is a lot of the fun of eating here. Food is good, not great. Showmanship of the chefs differs with each one doing a bit different flipping and fire lighting of oil and soy sauce is cooked with everything, some chefs being too liberal with that, along with ample amounts of butter to enhance flavors. read more

We've been to this restaurant several times in the past, but the latest visit was a huge disappointment. Initially there was no hostess to seat us, so we seated ourselves at a booth. Service was a bit slow and it took a while to get our drinks. I ordered the shrimp tempura lunch and my husband got the chicken teriyaki bento box. The obligatory miso soup came out along with a standard salad with ginger dressing. These were fine if not exceptional, entrees arrived and everything was okay, until I started eating the shrimp tempura. There are three pieces of shrimp to the dish, and after happily munching away on two of them, I discovered that the third piece was not shrimp at all, but was salmon, shaped like shrimp. What the heck? We notified the waitress, she didn't care, just offered me another piece of shrimp. No apology, nothing. Just weird all around, and who knows if this was intentional or a mistake. Maybe they were low on shrimp? Disappointed and upset, this was a pretty solid place, but now we'll think twice about going back. read more

Everything is beautifully presented and perfectly seasoned; of course, delicious! There are vegan and vegetarian choices. Probably the worst Japanese food I've ever had. Worse than the location at 466a Hamachi sushi nigiri was the smallest sushi I've ever had. $5.60 for two tiny pieces. The waitress brought me fried udon but I order shrimp soup udon like in normal restaurants. The soup udon was nothing like Japanese used. Sort of a sloppy Chinese wonton style soup but of course no won tons. Waitress scolded me I order fried noodles. There was a major language problem. Friend ordered a beer and it took about a minute to decipher that she said draft or bottle. We had no idea what she said throughout the ordering process. Never again at any Sakura. read more

The WORST chef experience in our lifetime! We had reservations for 3 at 7:30. Not seated until 8. No problem. We were served drinks, ordered, received soup and salad quickly. Another party of 2 joined during that time. 30 minutes after apps were picked up still no chef. Another 30 minutes later chef finally arrived and never spoke a word to us. Did not ask steak temp, did not offer teriyaki ginger sause, did not engage whatsoever with our 5 top table! No tricks...nothing. We could feel the tension at the table. He cooked our food and left without saying one word to us. We were later told he was not supposed to be our chef. A professional chef should NEVER take his anger out on a guest. He was very rude and so unprofessional that it made our dinner unpleasant. Spoke with the manager on duty and she said to ask for her next time and she would compensate us. We are there once or twice a year so I doubt she would remember who we are. We used to love this place every time we visited but not anymore!! They should be embarrassed! read more

We went to Sakura with 4 adults and 2 children. This was my first visit and I assure I will be back. The staff was great and attentive to both adults nd children. My husband and I visited this place tonight and were quickly greeted and seated. Once our waitress arrive we were handed the menu and were given our drinks quickly. However that was the only positive thing I have to say about the service. After placing our food order we rarely saw the waitress even once we got our food she only stopped by once. My husband ordered steak and chicken hibachi and I had the chicken and scallops hibachi. Hibachi comes with rice, vegetables, Soup, salad, noodles and whatever meat you have chosen. The chef was very friendly and the food was delicious. Best part is the price was definitely right. We even ordered a sushi appetizer and two sodas and the entire bill was $52. Went for dinner, was seated quickly. I ordered one of my favorite drinks which is Mai Tai and was pleasantly surprised to receive two because it was happy hour time. I had the lobster roll wich was plated with a nice presentation. I also had soup, the mushroom broth was delicious. My hubby had the teriyaki steak, we both enjoyed our meals. The only complaint is that the place was very smokey from the hibachi grill cooking on the other side of the dinning room so I went home smelling like chicken teriyaki. read more

We've been fans of Sakura in Colony Plaza since they first opened. This location near Spanish Springs is a different story. When we walked in the hostess was talking nonstop on a cell phone and never bothered to greeted us or even make eye contact. Not a good first impression. We followed her to a table where she tossed a couple of menus and left. About 10 minutes later we saw her bring in another couple and she still had the cell phone glued to her ear. Anyway, the food was mostly good. We had the Bento Boxes which were missing the Shumai. They finally came near the end of our meal and were very over fried. Service overall was lackluster in contrast to the always attentive Colony Sakura staff. read more

This is without a doubt the best sushi place we have ever been! We lived in South Florida which was home to many many very very good sushi places! This place by far beats any place we have ever been to whether it be South Florida or Vegas or any place we've ever been! The sushi is always fresh, delicious, and the presentation is phenomenal! We normally sit at the bar and the bartender is very friendly and very knowledgeable and very welcoming! We have never been happier with a sushi place than this one! I went for the Hibachi, it is on the level with the best I have had anywhere. I very rarely give 5 stars, the food was probably 4 stars but for the Villages it has to get an additional star. I was not a big fan of the shrimp but the filet was amazing (medium rare of course) and I was glad they had could put ranch on my salad instead of ginger dressing (I've never been a ginger dressing fan) This location has hibachi tables which is my favorite part! The entertainment they provide is awesome for all ages! There was a young girl who was turning 2 and the chef kept all of us entertained. At first we went to the Sakura in Colony and the people were not as friendly, the place was very dark, and there were not hibachi tables which I assumed there was.
