Salad and chicken soup.

Solid place for yakitori, with a menu that actually is more expansive than it looks at first glance once you take the time to read the whole thing. The mashed potato and mushroom in particular is just unusual enough to be a nice surprise, and the beef skewers are okay. Chef Yoshi and his staff are excellent and attentive. Just note it's pretty warm inside, which makes sense, considering a grill dominates the interior - but that's a definite consideration if you're an American used to A/C'ed comfort. And like most Japanese restaurants, it's not cheap.

The various grilled meat on skewers were delicious. The restaurant is not very big so you need to get there early to avoid a long wait and to get a parking space. The inside of the restaurant can get a bit smokey if you sit close to the area where the grilling is taking place. Service is slow and staff were not very responsive. The food is a bit pricey but it is to be expected for the location of this restaurant.

Kicking myself for growing up and living only a few blocks away my entire life and barely tried Sakura House last night. What a GEM! I have to start with the service. The ladies and Yoshi himself are the sweetest souls with a sense of humor. You really feel like family when you walk through those doors and they take hospitality to the next level. I haven't had service like this on the Westside in years and its the only kind you get when you go to a sweet mom & pop type shop like this. The food was outstanding. We ordered the spinach ohitashi, Yoshi's owari chicken, negima, beef with ginger miso, ribeye with spinach and shiso, shrimp maki, asparagus maki and shitake mushrooms. Everything was outstanding and grilled to perfection. We ordered a second round of negima and shrimp maki because they were soooo good!!! The restaurant tucked away in the corner of a strip mall along Washington with a small parking lot. Traditional japanese decor - nothing fancy, but you know you're gonna have an authentic Yakitori experience. We've determined already that we will be regulars here. See you soon Sakura House!

Food being grilled.

Sakura House - Sizzling Skewers of Kushiyaki Sakura House has become our favorite restaurant in the Los Angeles area. Having traveled to Japan many times, I can say with confidence -- this place is the real deal. The kushiyaki here is outstanding -- perfectly skewered and grilled to perfection over special imported Japanese charcoal, which gives every bite an authentic smoky flavor. In addition to the skewers, their bacon-wrapped creations are a must-try! From asparagus, okra, and string beans to tomatoes, enoki mushrooms, and jalapeño peppers -- each one is packed with flavor and cooked just right. We also loved the fresh edamame, Yoshi's Owari Chicken, and the incredibly tasty black pepper chicken wings. Everything was expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. If you're looking for an authentic taste of Japan in LA, Sakura House is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

I haven't been to this neighborhood spot in years and left thinking about everything I've been missing out on. Really nice meal in an unassuming strip mall. I called ahead on a Wednesday to make sure I'd have a spot at the bar. Highly recommend you call ahead so you don't run into any long waits to be seated, especially if you want a table. The skewers here are very solid. This is a traditional-style yakitori joint so don't come expecting fusion plates or wild ideas. They're serving up the classics over here and chef is attentive to every last skewer that leaves the grill. The skewers are actually larger than most around the city, so be careful not to over order! It takes a little while here to get through your meal as it's quite paced out and there's only so much room above the coals. I used the time between courses to watch chef do his thing and relax a bit. It really is quite meditative to watch him do his thing. Service is very friendly and attentive. I found the prices to be on par with what you're getting. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area and craving some skewers.

The menu is good but we ordered 4 items that they didn't have. The service was good but we got there at 6 PM and the waitress was opening the door and putting the rug outside. When we entered I was hoping she was going to wash her hands but that never happened. She went ahead and touched the napkins on the table and went to pour our draft beers. The ambiance is good and they are extremely friendly.

Stop who's giving this place less than 5 stars. Yoshi San been doing this for so long and always every single time delivering best quality yakitori in the city. Service always excellent. Comfortable casual place for downright good eating. Beatles music in the back. Nostalgic and chill been coming here for 20 years. They keep you coming back and craving it. Get the usual, meatball, chicken onion, miso beef, saborro which is chicken ground and rice. It's the best!

I can't remember exactly how it compares to Kazunori but I want to say comparable if not better since it has minimal wait. Seaweed was crispy, rice was good. The Santa Monica one is more grab and go as it's their smaller flagship location. This business has been carried by the owner Keiko who has brought a slice of Japan outside of the designated communities of West LA's Sawtelle and DTLA's Japan Town! Here (at either location) you will find unique delicious flavors of omusubi but also called onigiri rice balls! That you won't find anywhere else! Rice balls are actually shaped into triangles and stuffed or mixed with simple ingredients like a salted plum called ume (it tastes salty, and tangy with a touch of sweetness) To more engaging offerings like the lucky cat with japanese pickles with fresh wasabi, ginger, and bonito(dried fish that is sliced paper thin) These finger foods can be enjoyed as a snack or grab a few to make a meal. The Culver City Location has a decor that immerses you in Japan. They have a small market section with alcohol such as saki, handmade dishware from Japan, cute claw machines for kids, and expanded meal offerings! Besides Keiko being absolutely amazing, the food is as well! From curry stuffed to fresh shisho leaves and pickled wasabi!!! There's lots to choose from and the best part.,,.they have always had an expansive vegan menu! Yes they are very Vegan Friendly! I love the Eggplant Chili Miso and Wasabi Tsukudani. I highly suggest checking out the Culver City location so you can sit down and enjoy a drink and the ambiance and expanded offerings. After going to this place for nearly 16 years there are rare days where things like the rice may be off due to a mistake, but I've only experienced that a total of 2 times in 16 years so it's pretty rare!

I had it once before, when I was Tokyo, but don't remember it. I won't soon forget this place. I tried 3 omusubi: the Sunny Blue Curry ("tender chicken and scallions simmered in wafu curry), the Miso Beef ("tender beef and caramelized onions cooked with homemade miso sauce"), and the Tokyo Tori ("chicken with sweet and sour sauce"). hard to pick a favorite; they were all really tasty. Though I kind of think the sushi-like nature of omusubi might work even better with fish, which they also offer; specifically the Kara Tuna ("albacore tuna with diced cucumbers and onions with spicy mayo sauce") and Spicy Salmon ("cured salmon with chili seasoning"). Maybe next time. As for the place itself, it was clean and neat, and while there was only one table inside, they had a nice outside area on the side. They also have a staff who were friendly and helpful. As for parking, I easily found a spot on a side street on a Wednesday around noon. There's also some metered parking on Washington. Just watch the signs. If I had a complaint -- and I don't, really -- it would be that I wish they had some coffee drinks. But that kind of wouldn't fit the vibe (and, to be honest, there were tons of coffee places on Washington on my way home). Instead, their beverages were fittingly rather Japanese. Like Ramune.

This is kind of a small bites place, where you get a couple of smaller portions of meat and other sides as well as a main portion of stuff like cold or warm soba noodles. Since it was my bday, we did it up a little big and ordered many things... We tried the signature sobar lunch, which came with several courses (I got the traditional tsuyu with brisket, the cabbage, seared sashimi and grilled duck - delishhhh, and a handroll, along with a spiked lemonade drink, which was a delight). The vibe and ambiance were cool and the service was helpful and warm to us. Overall, the food was fresh and the flavors were mostly very good (particularly the duck and sashimi). I think maybe I'm not the biggest fan of cold noodle dishes, and the house broth was good, but didn't quite knock my socks off. I also felt like it was on the lighter side portion-wise, so I feel like I did leave the place still a little hungry. Given the average price on the menu, that part was a little disappointing. I would return, but I think next time I'd need to levelset my expectations on the portions and order a warmer noodle dish.

Before the meal, they bring a warm towel. Manila Clam Ramen: The broth is subtly briny and sweet from the clams and dashi, so don't expect a typical rich pork soup. The Manila clams are sweet and tasty. While I'm not normally a high fan of the texture of clams, these are plump, springy, and juicy. In fact, with their huge size and orange color, they resemble mussels in flavor and shape. Slivers of the preserved lemon give a zesty, aromatic, and fermented flavor. This complements the scallions and sweet citrus zing of the red Fresno chilies. The mitsuba leaves are like a mild parsley. Today I had some interesting interactions with water. In the morning, while I was surfing, I was spitting out the aggressively salty water. My first sip of RVR's tap was noticeably sweet, cold, clean, and refreshing.
