My mother and I were in town for a birthday and wanted some sushi. This place was close to our hotel and had a great rating. We started with the ginger salad and clear/onion soup. Salad was crisp and the dressing was perfect. The soup was hot, had just the right amount of ingredients and was the perfect salt level for myself and mother(we aren't big on salty things if that helps). We then ordered sushi and our entrees. Tuna was fresh and I like (k)rab sticks which were good for what they are. I ordered General Tso's chicken as my main. It was delicious as it wasn't greasy or over breaded. Finally, found the the Asian restaurant that I've been looking for! I am very particular when it comes to Asian food, and this place delivered. We did carry out during COVID, they brought the food out to our vehicle, and it was still steaming hot once we got home. With carry out food, it usually does not have the fresh quality you get in restaurants, this place we did not feel like that. Our container did leak a little on the inside of the bag, but I am more impressed with the temperature and quality once we opened everything up. The Thai basil chicken had a little bit of a kick, and had the vegetables and chicken perfectly cooked. The chicken skewers were very flavorful, and really everything else was top notch. Kip young here, If I could give zero stars I sure would. The experience and service was great, untill we got the food. Presentation 10/10 but looks can be deceiving. Off the bat I got a heinous funky taste to each roll. I tried to brush it off but it got worse as I kept eating, my mouth tasted like dirty lake water in every bite. It was so bad I had to waste the rest immediately leave and stop at the local target to grab gum. ABSOLUTELY WORST SUSHI EVER. UNFORTUNATELY I WILL BE HAVING TO TAKE A BREAK FROM SUSHI AFTER THIS. Our first visit. We enjoyed it! The menu is large. Something for everyone. We enjoyed nigiri sushi and a roll for appetizers and hibachi seafood combos for our main course. The sushi is protein heavy and rice light which makes for a less filling and tasty combination. (Also, probably better for the overall bill, which is fine. ). Our entrees were tasty and ample. We haven't had hot sake in a while and really enjoyed that. For west coast transplants, this restaurant was a welcome find. It's not quite SoCal but dang good. This was the worst sushi and service I've ever had. I decided to meet up with a friend before we went to go see a movie. The restaurant shares a parking lot with the AMC theater and I kinda wish that I had eaten at the movie theater rather than dined in here. Upon arrival I stood at the entrance for about five minutes solid waiting for someone to greet me. I am Very understanding being that its hard times for everyone and all places are very low staffed but they didn't even look our way to acknowledge we entered their restaurant. Finally the woman walked over and didn't say one word. I said hi to her and she quickly walked us over to our table. Again, then cue the waiting music because the server didn't even come to greet us or bring us water. When he did bring us water he tried to disappear but I got smart and I out my appetizer order in. I ordered the snow white and a salmon roll. I actually liked the salmon roll better than the snow white roll. The snow white roll had some type of consistency like grounded up fish. We had also ordered appetizers and these were the WORST Crab Ragoons of my life. Very hard shell and the cream cheese and crab mixture inside was bad. It was wasted calories. The calamari was terrible too, both appetizers tasted like carnival food. The presentation of the food is cute and I think thats why I see people post this restaurant so much online, but don't be fooled. I love asian food, I love sushi and I will not be back. Beautiful restaurant, very nice staff. Never have to worry about empty drink glasses as they come around often (but not too much) and ask if you'd like a refill or another drink from their massively stocked full bar. Food is amazing and they always present it with beauty and flair. It's sometimes hard to get in on the weekends as they get fairly busy so you might want to call ahead and get on the list. Also good idea to call ahead and reserve a table if you have a large group. read more

Location is great - atmosphere is beautiful - the happy hour menu is fantastic - the music is perfect and it's a great place for a date night. We happened to come In a week or two ago for a friends birthday upon our suggestion and it did not disappoint. Presentation....was absolutely beautiful. The pork dumplings are always the perfect appetizer - followed by a roll or two of sushi and maybe splitting an entree or getting some more rolls. Service was a little slow for the birthday party - however they seemed short staffed and it was busy - but the server was nice and you could tell she was giving it her all. read more

I had been wanting to go to Sake Lounge for quite some time and I'm glad that my husband and I had a great and pleasant evening the other day. It has a great ambience and decor perfect for a date night and pleasing to the eye. We love food and food photography so this was the perfect place to satisfy our camera and palates. I love sushi rolls and they were delicious and beautifully crafted and served on a boat. We chose a boat for two that served miso soup (very tasty and not watered down) for the both of us, one each of the wild cat roll, volcano roll, hot and spicy roll, spicy crunch tuna roll and the california roll. Some pickled ginger and wasabi was served on the side of the boat and soy sauce was kept on the table by our server who was exceptional and very sweet throughout our dining experience. We tried their shrimp shumai but were absolutely disappointed with the taste, portion and texture of it. It was served with a thin sauce and did nothing to please us. We definitely won't be having those again. Also, their rolls were tiny. I have never seen such tiny rolls at any sushi restaurant. Yes they were delicious but very small! We decided to order a chicken lo mein after the boat to feel full and so glad we did because that chicken lo mein was FABULOUS! We asked for it to be spicy and we got it! I love trying chicken lo mein at various restaurants and this one had lots of flavors from the wok, great chicken and veggies and beautiful texture. Loved it! I will order take out for their chicken lo mein anytime! As for the rolls, my hunt for the best sushi-sashimi-nagiri in KC area will continue but will come back here for their lo mein and hibachi anytime! We have been coming to Sake often and have always had great service, polite staff, great food, and been at the restaurant a reasonable amount of time. Tonight was different. We were sat after waiting 20 minutes for a table which was expected for a Friday night. When we were sat we ordered drinks and appetizers that we didn't wait long for. The next time our server came back was when we were done with all the appetizers and we placed our order. She came back once more to fill drinks but then we waited for almost an hour for our food and the server gave no communication or checked on us at all but she was at the table next to us several times filling water and checking on them. When we asked if our food was close she said it was very close and blamed it on being busy and the sushi bar being busy. This would have been fine with us if she was up front that they were backed up at the beginning of our dinner. When we finally got our food it was very good! Better service and open communication would have turned this experience into a 5 star review. read more

I have no complaints from Sake Lounge! You can get a ton of sushi for a great price and it's very beautifully presented. I don't get out South too terribly often, but it's nice to know that there is a delicious sushi joint out that way just in case! I genuinely enjoyed all of the sushi and between four (more like three because one person was a bit younger) the boat was the perfect size. First time trying sushi here in the mid west since I moved from the west side. I was a bit nervous but we got the boat and a few extra rolls in case it wasn't enough for me and my 2 family members but it was SO much food ! Very good quality sushi I was very pleased, and the price was absolutely outstanding considering. The boat was only $60 & it looked beautiful with the decoration and display of all our rolls . The service was a bit slow my brother had to refill our waters twice because the server was no where to be found..so that was a bit awkward specially since they were running half capacity because of covid restrictions but I overall I will be coming back here! I've heard of food as an art form, but say that to someone at Sake and you will hear their sushi masters say "HOLD MY SAKE!" This was my first time and walking in it was very spacious and comfortable and provided seating at the sushi bar or tables. We sat at the tables. The friends I had come out with had been here before. When they said the sushi was wonderful, they were not kidding. I started with hot sake, which was served at perfect temperature, and the Scallion Pancake. Now came the star of the show, the sushi. I had the Sushi Platter and it was so beautifully executed that you didn't want to eat it. Now human nature would tell you to look at this like "C'mon! What are they hiding with all the fancy display?" To answer, absolutely nothing but awesome! The sushi was fresh and made precisely. The artistry with the sauces on the plates was brilliant. We got dinner and a show. Not wanting to stop there, we got some a la carte rolls. I sampled the nigiri (salmon, scallop, squid, and tuna). All of it just as amazing as the first. What really surprised me was how fresh it all was. They must be hiding a fresh water fish farm in the back. This place has definitely made my top places for sushi list and I will be back soon. My favorite for sushi is here! I've been here more times than I can remember. They have awesome happy hour specials! All the rolls are really good and are half off. My friends got some drinks and boy they were almost too strong. We added water to the glass several times and still too strong for us so if you like leaving tipsy, this is definitely the place to be! I usually split a love boat special with 1-2 friends and it's always guaranteed to please. Their presentation is spot on every time. The rolls with cream cheese have a perfect combination of cream cheese and other ingredients unlike other sushi places around here. If you do go for happy hour, you'll have to sit on one side of the restaurant but it's pretty roomy. I would also suggest order a decent amount because it does take them awhile to make your order because they are fairly busy and happy hour ends at 6pm. I'm in Kansas City for a work trip and was missing Asian food since I'm from the Bay. Found this spot on yelp on our first night and my sister and I absolutely loved the food. The sashimi and rolls were delicious and the presentation was so beautiful. Must get the sashimi platter and the Black Angel roll. The presentation was beautiful decorated with flowers and lights and they would even make a design out of the food. As for the sashimi, so fresh and melts in your mouth. All the rolls were very flavorful. My sister and I enjoyed our dinner so much the first night that we came back for our last night. This sushi spot did not disappoint. We left the restaurant very satisfied and the staff was so friendly! If I ever come back to Kansas City, I will definitely come back. read more

I didn't even know this place existed. Last I recall, this was a bar in the back of the strip mall. I walked over from the Hampton Inn. I didn't realize that it was AYCE night in the restaurant. That wasn't until I ordered food in the bar which took over 40 minutes to prepare. I ordered the Sashimi Box 10 pc for $22.95. The bartender asked if I wanted fried rice with that which I did. I didn't realize until the bill came that they charge an extra $1.95. I must have missed that on the menu. I also ordered the sake flight of 3. The bartender apologized for the long wait and made up for it by getting me the sake flight of 5. It was excellent. The Sashimi box is quite filling for 1 person. Comes with sushi and sashimi as well as crab rangoon. Mondays seem to be quiet there in the bar. read more

Seriously in love with this restaurant. I am normally not a huge sushi fan (I do not like fish and am allergic to avocado) but came here with my fiancé anyway. I was pleasantly surprised by the chicken katsu and got it EVERY TIME. I love the sweet potato roll and have loved every experience here. I will say, it is really expensive so we do not get to go nearly as much as I would like. Also, they have pretty long wait times since they are short-staffed. It's really hard to say that I have a favorite sushi restaurant, but I must say this is my favorite sushi restaurant. When I am visiting Kansas City from New Mexico, this is one of the first places I go. I always get rolls and they have the best selection. Their salad dressing is out of this world! I was a little unsure about trying this place, because when we would drive by, it looked like a dirty Asian karaoke bar. (Come to find out...it actually USED to be ~ Hahahaa!!!) The atmosphere is warm and friendly, the service is just as great and the food is DELICIOUS! I accidentally walked into their happy hour (prices are nothing to brag about) and was able to get more than expected. It all tastes pretty fresh and they don't slouch on the presentation, even if it's just happy hour. Their prices seem fair, considering the quality. So glad I tried this place!
