So after our debacle at YummyHibachi or whatever the hell that place was, Kat and I drove to the other side of the island, trying to keep our dreams of Japanese food for dinner alive. We ended up at Sake House, a very pleasant middle of the road Japanese option. The menu is quite large and the staff are adorably friendly, we tried quite a few things and weren't disappointed. For starters; fantastic Pork Gyoza. Hands down must try. The food came out quickly, the waiter was very friendly & always had a smile. The Sushi itself came out in about 15 minutes, with amazing presentation & tasted as good as it looks! The Volcano is a must try, not many places do the Volcano properly anymore but they stuck too the traditional style. The dancing eel was OK but I'm just not a huge fan of cooked rolls I suppose. the Hilton Head was fresh to the crunch & had so many flavors. I normally get some yum yum sauce to compliment my sushi but I did not even wanna taint my food with it this time! We're from Chicago and love sushi. We kind of gave up on finding good a quality sushi restaurant in Beaufort, until we stumbled upon Sake House. We tried the sushi boat for 2 and were pretty blown away. Lots of fresh sushi really reasonably priced...with soup AND great salad. Honestly more than we could eat! We've since tried Yummy and House of Tokyo but they pale in comparison. Service is great and the waiters are helpful. Our kids have visited us and agree it's Chicago quality. read more

The sushi is a little small for what I'm used too but super delicious! Where we were sitting had a lot of sand flies and it was getting in our food as we were trying to eat it. Took my family to eat here while in Beaufort. Ordered food and waitress came out with generous portions NONE of which were even edible! The sauce used in the dishes was watery and tased like maple syrup. Nothing like it have I ever experienced at a Japanese restaurant. Very fast and friendly service. I get a takeout sushi order every other Friday after work and it's always ready for me when I arrive. Good portion sizes for the price. I've dined in a few times and the atmosphere is very relaxed. I ordered the shumai as an appetizer last time I sat down to eat here and it was kinda cold but still edible. Sometimes I do feel like there's a language barrier because on two separate occasions I asked if their house sake was cold (I don't prefer hot sake but will drink it) and was told yes, but it was hot when it came out. Spent 1 hour waiting for the food with no warning we wouldn't have the food cooked in front of us and 30 minutes eating and waiting for the check. Everyone in the restaurant was shocked when their food came to them vice being cooked in-front of them like traditional hibachi restaurants. Don't bother. Nice place - lots of seating and modern. We've been there about 5 times now and our service always varies depending on the server. Most of the time we get our drinks and hot sake refilled right away and there were only a few times where we had to wave other servers because ours didn't notice for a while. We aren't picky so it didn't bother us. Their sushi menu is standard as any other Sake House so you can't get any fancy special "on fire" rolls. Sake House in Bluffton and in Beaufort have a half-off sushi and some apps + house sake HALF OFF Monday - Thursday so that can save a few bucks but nothing fancy. If you're looking for good sushi and cheaper bill on week days this is the place to go. Recommend! read more

The Sake House needs to be thoroughly cleaned. The women's bathroom is gross. The entire place is dingy. I was with a group of friends or I would have left. WORST customer service I have ever experienced...Literally. We saw multiple tables around us get up and leave as the owner frantically tried to keep everything running. The people they hire are just the absolute worse - I don't understand how a server can be soooooo bad....and then not get fired on the spot. I know there's not a lot of selection in Beaufort for Japanese Hibachi, but don't waste your time and money here. Their service, while not rude, was painstakingly slow. I've given them three chances to improve and this was after a management change. First, we walk in and it's not busy. At. All. Why should we have to wait? There were only four of us. I asked for a hibachi table and the host was repeatedly telling me that we would need at least two hibachi entrees for them to open one up. Um... FOUR of us standing there. I get two were kids, but still. I had to assure him we would be ordering that many hibachi entrees. The waitress was nice, but so slow. She'd get our drink order then 10 minutes later show up with them. Then food and the chef didn't show up for another 15 minutes. It took 2-2.5 hours to complete our freaking dinner. RIDICULOUS!!! I went here for lunch and got the "Sushi Regular" lunch special. The salmon and tuna on the rice balls were amazing but the California roll was not good. The avocado didn't taste right. It was a little early to cut and serve it. The crab was stringing and tasted like the out of the bag crab. The cucumber was cut correctly but their was a string or something in it. On the times during my travels and visits to Beaufort, I always try to come to Sake House. The food here is great and I am a connoisseur when it comes to Sushi. Some of the reviews here say the service is lacking, but I haven't had any issues on my visits. I can't complain during a busy night if things are going a bit slow, that's expected. And they could use a bit of work when it comes to the bartending. The first time the waiter we had got to talking and he is a Bay Area native so obviously he got a good tip :P The last time was during a birthday dinner and we all sat at the one of the three huge hibachi tables and were entertained by the two chefs treating our table :) The pricing is moderate but if your like me and you like to chow down on some good Sushi, be expected to pay a good amount lol. read more
