This might be my favorite sushi restaurant. We usually come every Friday at 4:45, to avoid the crowds. I usually get the 49er roll, miso soup, and tempura. The food is really fresh and tastes amazing. The miso soup broth was good but I wish they could make the tofu cubes bigger and add green onions for more flavor. The tempura had many different kinds of vegetables in it. I don't even like broccoli but I love it there! The sauce is so flavorful and they gave us a generous amount. The 49er was awesome, the fish was really fresh and it was very neatly wrapped so it didn't fall apart. I also really loved how cute the soy sauce bottle was. The people working there were really sweet and never let our glass be empty. They had fish painting all over the walls which I liked. When we went out all the employees near me all said have a nice day, which made me feel special. They even give you amazing candy! If you want good sushi and to feel welcomed you should definitely come here. read more

Huge disappointment. After seeing the reviews I was excited to try this new place in Orinda. Unfortunately the results are not positive. Order number of rolls and it was clear from the time. I opened it at home that the fish was not fresh. Dull sheen to the hamachi and salmon indicated the fish was not fresh. Spicy tuna roll was inedible. I ordered the katsu chicken special to go, total came out to be around $15 with tax. I got a few soggy pieces and white rice with an orange slice. And it took over 15 minutes for them to prepare it. Ridiculous..this place just opened...with this kind of product they won't last long. I'm extremely disappointed and will not go back. **Update 3/25** Came back for lunch today around noon and sat-in and ordered the cherry blossom roll and a lunch bento box (katsu, sashimi). The bento box ($22) is definitely a great deal, you get miso soup, salad (with nice dressing, not sure what it is but not the overly sweet thousand island that's served in a lot of sushi places), and two items from a good list of choices along with a scoop of rice & 2 gyozas. The sashimi pieces were large and fish was very fresh, the katsu was lightly coated and crispy. Cherry blossom roll was also good (tuna was very fresh), but portion wise I think it's a bit steep for the price. However, being in Orinda I think it's par for the course and quality wise it was above average. I did notice that they got rid of their to-go specials on the billboard, which is what I ordered from last time. All in all, happy I gave this place a second chance and will probably drop in from time to time to satisfy my sushi cravings. read more

In town for a family visit, stopped in for dinner. From the "get-go", I fell in love with this place. The ambiance set the mood as we walked in, excellent menu & specialization and "Omotenashi" by the staff was prevalent. I can go on and on about the food, but you should find out for yourself. Not impressed the chicken didn't taste good it had some seasoning that was overpowering and was really fatty cuts of meat. The teriyaki sauce was bland which I've never come across before. Pretty pricey for not being able to get double of something if you don't want certain menu items for the bento boxes (you get 3 items) but you can't get two of the same item ... which I also found odd because most places don't mind doing that. I rarely write reviews but this experience stood out to me. Everything exceeded my expectation. Friendly people, super fresh and delicious sushi that was obviously prepared with meticulous love. Only open two months and a hit! waiting for a liquor license, but go, the food is delicious. For appetizers, we had vegetarian potstickers and shrimp and vegetable tempura. both were great. The tempera batter was light and crunchy, the shrimp and the vegetables delicious. The potstickers come with six on the plate and were also delicious with the dipping sauce. Then we got a dragon roll and a four season roll. The Dragon roll was the better of the two, but they were both fresh and really tasty. .Once they get their liquor license, which they're just waiting to hear, as all the permits are in, the place will explode and you'll need a reservation. So go now while it's relatively quiet for a new place. Really friendly nice staff as well! read more

Just found out that Sake Blue opened. They have repainted the interior and it is more welcoming. The young woman who greeted us was friendly and welcoming. We ordered miso and two special rolls. The miso was piping hot and flavorful without being too salty. I ordered the #17 special roll and it was really delish and good! It had tempura shrimp in it and the tempura was light and still warm. I thought the food was significantly better than the previous owner. Definitely recommend! read more

So me and my just left there and I was very disappointed. We just come from a walk at the Lafayette Reservoir, hoping to sit in a nice air-conditioned restaurant and they did not have any air blowing or any doors open. It was very stuffy. Okay so I'm not a raw fish eater so I like to go to sushi restaurants for their cooked rolls and I must say that I was highly disappointed. I got the lion King roll and it wasn't even like hot hot hot. It was kind of like lukewarm, and it comes with a thin piece of baked salmon on the top, and they just gave me the brown under belly part of the salmon. Which gave the role a very dirty taste ! You know for such a small piece of salmon that they're giving you I would at least expect to get all the pink parts of the salmon. I also paid extra to get the real crab California rolls and I don't know if they mix the crab with something, but it was just kind of mushy. It wasn't really a big difference than the imitation crab rolls to be honest except for the price. My friend also was not satisfied with her bento box. The one thing I did like was her I think she got a shrimp roll. That was pretty tasty we ordered the pork Gyoza for an appetizer and it was just really lacking flavor and bland and it wasn't even very hot. Since I didn't eat all of the lion King roll she did give me half off, which was very nice of her. She happened to come over to the table and ask how everything was and I didn't feel like lying, some people won't do that so kudos for her, but I will not be returning for their cooked rolls California rolls Unagi rolls. And for all the people in the comments who said that this is the best sushi they ever had. I suggest venturing off, Berkeley Oakland, San Francisco you're really missing out. read more

Ordered Saba entree and it wasn't fully cooked so we sent it back. They offered to cook me another one. It took so long, my husband was already done with his food. What a wonderful little gem we stumbled upon! Our server, Angel, was delightful and very attentive. We ordered the chicken katsu, seaweed salad, futomaki, vegetable tempura, edamame, miso soup, and Mexican roll. Everything was fresh and delicious. My husband said the seaweed salad and futomaki was one of the best he's ever had. I thoroughly enjoyed the Mexican roll! So delicious. The tempura vegetables were so light and perfectly fried. Stopped in for lunch and I'm glad I did because it was great! New favorite spot in orinda. Had the rainbow roll and it was a super fresh fish, large roll that was reasonably priced.
