I think the place was hyped more than it should've been. Went the week of derby on Winsday. Didn't get there too early, they refused to sit us before our reservation time and the place wasn't packed. The host wasn't all that friendly. The drinks were awesome we had a couple as we sat at the bar waiting to be seated. The ramen was to die for. Broth was nice and rich. Definitely delicious. The art in the bar area was great as well. Lighting made it even more awesome.

Since my last review Sake A Gogo has added a regular nigiri menu, fixing my lone complaint. The vibes are still incredible. The service still obviously works incredibly hard. I still think of Sake A Gogo as more of a "high priced Steakhouse" budget-wise than "a go to sushi place" even with excellent nigiri. Some of that is being spoiled with choice in Louisville. But it is the sushi place closest to my home, so I selfishly want it to succeed, because I love walking in and getting a spot at the bar or the sushi bar for a good meal.

Fun sushi spot! Love the atmosphere, cool vibe to the space, lively energy. Servers are great, helpful and attentive, and they seem to enjoy being there, which is nice when trying to make the guests feel welcome. The food and drinks are great. Solid selection of sushi and other dishes, and a range of fun and creative cocktails. Absolutely go with friends and share a few dishes! It's a little pricy for the portions--some sushi places I feel like they load you up, and this is not one, but the quality is very much there and worth the trip.

Date night here was great. Restaurant is decorated throughout, including the bathrooms, per the Japanese theme. Service was prompt but food came out slow. The raw items were very fast but the cooked items got a bit behind. Server was kind. Cocktail list was good, we had one each. The food itself was fantastic. Great flavors and textures. Portion sizes were ok. I loved that they had specials- the Wagyu gyoza and the seabass lettuce wraps- delicious. In the end, great food, a good time but overall a but pricey. Could easily get more food for that price or spend less and get more, at other places. Enjoyed the visit.

Sake A Gogo is definitely a vibe and a great place to start or end your night. The decor inside is very fitting for the sushi bar theme and our server Leslie was great. Food was excellent and tasty. Nothing we tried was bad. We got the waygu crocket, spicy chicken wings, salmon crudo, hamachi roll, wagyu skewers and prime rib negrima. My only negative is the portion size compared to the price. If you are really hungry you'll end up spending $200+ easily. Like I said, I'd go there to start my night with a roll or two and go to the next spot to eat something a little more substantial. But the quality of food is superb and deserves at least one trip.

This restaurant offers a robust menu of traditional Japanese cuisine, appetizers, sushi rolls, sake, and hand crafted cocktails. I received exceptional customer service and the staff were incrediblely knowledgeable of the menu and provided excellent recommendations! The restaurant's ambiance and decor is absolutely stunning. I would highly recommend making reservations prior to partaking and fully take advantage of the valet parking because parking for the venue can be a little tricky and difficult. Overall great experience, I look forward to returning soon.

Second post .. third visit since it opened and finally the official menu with pricing is up. Shows that the service is still top notch and very welcoming. And the decor is just still breathtaking The private dining Omakase room is still not ready yet .. hopefully some time in June!

So excited to see Kevin Grangier's newest Louisville restaurant and to be greeted by him as we arrived. Really enjoyed the immediate ambience as you enter. Loved the variety of bars and dining spaces. The seating in the private dining room was so comfortable and the handcrafted tree table is gorgeous in there! Started with a Aozora 75 gin cocktail (delicious) our table shared Cucumber Salad, Calamari (so good we had 2), Wagyu Croquets (2 orders) Heirloom Tomato Ceviche, Wagyu Carpaccio (delicious!) Courtney provided excellent service. Cant wait to go back for more! Side note: Restrooms are unisex, clean and very cozy, each with its own sink and mirror inside. Tip: Make reservations on Open Table (available 30 days in advance only)

Yummy!! I had the beef bulgogi which was perfect for just me. And also split some apps like the crispy rice and something else. I tried the matcha mango dessert which was a little tart

It's a high end Asian spot that is absolutely gorgeous. I felt the menu was a little limited and pricey, but overall a great experience and enjoyed the food. I wouldn't make this my every day spot, but maybe for a special occasion.

My first time visiting Sake A Gogo was so memorable! From the interior design, to the food and service-- I decided to step out solo for my first visit, and it was a night well spent! Each room in the restaurant were beautiful, and had their own unique style. Also saw a couple of rooms where business meals could be held or intimate gatherings/celebrations, I could imagine a greater crowd happening here as I walked around (depending on the occasion..) The staff was very friendly, and professional. My waiter Andrei gave me some awesome recommendations. I started off with an Espresso Martini, Seaweed salad and then the Unagi roll, the salad was excellent, the sushi was very fresh, flavorful, and left me wanting more. I will be back again, to try something new!

The food....amazing. There wasn't a thing that we ordered that wasn't good. The service.....also amazing. Our server was attentive. We had a little issue on our second round of drinks but overall, great service. The reason for the 3 stars, we made a reservation a week prior for the private room and it was confirmed. When we got here, they said the owner took the room for another party. Unacceptable. The response from the team onsite, "sorry". It made for a poor birthday experience for our friend and our large party.

Ask the Community - Sake A Gogo

I hate to ask, because I know the answer is 'if you have to ask you can't afford it', but where are the prices?

They are still in the process of tweaking the menu so prices are not printed yet. I have been there twice now. The price range from $12 for the cold apps to $32 for the waygu skewers. The tuna sashimi is around $24 and I think the lobster sushi roll… Read more

I've been going to Samurai for date nights and friend dinners for years and every roll is huge and fresh, and I always have great service. Good sushi is hard to find in land locked Kentucky! Samurai must have great sources for their fish because the freshness is very apparent, every time I go. Favorite rolls: Mark's Roll, Happy Sunday, Texas Roll, Barbie's Favorite, Sakura Roll, and Midnight Roll but truthfully, you cannot go wrong. We heard the story of our favorite roll! The Mark's roll was named after a very kind soul that was a friend of the restaurant that sadly passed away. He loved spicy food and was the light of the room, so the fried jalalpeno and flaming plate make the perfect homage to him. The love and care Samurai has for their customers and the community is unmatched! Come cute with 15 people, or in your pajamas with your bestie. The atmosphere is very welcoming; casual but romantic still. Either way come ready to EAT!

I won't be back--and I wouldn't recommend it…read more I ordered their best available Cabernet . The first glass was good, I understand this is not a wine bar so no complaints. The second was completely off--overripe, heavy blackberry notes, clearly oxidized and not the same quality wine. This is what happens when a bottle has been open too long. When I pointed it out, instead of addressing it professionally, the server repeatedly insisted it was from the same bottle and argued with me. That's not just poor service--that's dismissive and borderline insulting. I wasn't trying to get out of paying. I explicitly said I would pay for the glass and not drink it--which I did. I left the full glass on the table. At that point, the appropriate response would have been to move on. Instead, the argument continued. For context, I spent 22 years in the wine and spirits industry. I know the difference--but frankly, anyone could have smelled and tasted how off that wine was. I still paid and tipped 20%, but the issue isn't the charge--it's the way this was handled. Arguing with a customer instead of listening is unacceptable. Do better.
