We were looking for a local joint to pop into before a movie, when we found White Buddha after a quick Yelp search. I don't frequent the Anchorage area often, so I did not know that this place existed until finding it online. We are big sushi lovers, and man, theirs did not disappoint! In fact, for how small of a place it is, I was impressed with how many different options of rolls that they had. They also have other items on their menu if you're not feeling sushi. I ordered the crab rangoon roll - a personal fave of mine - and this was the best one I've had... huge portions and drizzled with sweet chili sauce... yum! I also appreciate the size of the roll, as one was the perfect size for a dinner portion and not too small like it can be at other places. It lightly.... Had to take a couple days to decide how to leave a review. This place came recommended by a close friend so didn't expect to feel disappointed. For the money spent, it was not okay to spend so much and not eat. The gentleman working there at the counter was very nice and was pleasant to talk to. The food... I don't know. I guess since it was the end of the night but still... we ordered to go after leaving the Kawaii Candy & Karaoke Elite event... still hot but it was kind of a hot mess. I refused to take photos of the food just added into my sorrow. An order of chicken and one shrimp fried rice- both so over cooked and seemingly recooked and just out too long.. the rice was just mush in both orders. The crab Rangoons two orders came with three- but they tasted really bad like weird and the texture threw us through another dimension. The firecracker shrimp didn't get eaten either... Instead of the sauce put on the side to add once home it was drenched- but made it so soggy there was no saving it no way to do anything with the goop breading. I just gave up. I know the lady who came out the kitchen looked irradiated but people were picking up to go orders when we came in... I know it was 40 minutes or less before closing so... I mean I get it I apologize for wanting to try the place for the first time while in the area- literally across the street... but it's going to have to be super early and in a little while. Heard nothing but good things so I did expect a lot I guess and that's on me... I will try it again and early in the day when I do. My daughter ordered something else but she didn't like it. I want to give it another go... I think it's one of those cases.. have to try again. But we won't order so much. We always order tons to try when we find a new place. Thank you Yelp for helping us find new places that are close to my house. A group of us were wanting to get dinner before catching a movie and they suggested White Buddha. The restaurant is small with only 5 tables inside but we didn't mind it. It felt more personal and we didn't have to worry about a loud crowd. The servers were fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and always came around to check on us. I went with the cucumber roll and it was great. Everything was very fresh. I also had their ginger salad and it was also good. My husband ended up taking part of the salad and he loved it. I was surprised how inexpensive everything was. 2 rolls and a salad only cost me 20 dollars. I thought that was a steal compared to other sushi places I've been too. I highly recommend White Buddha read more

I'm visiting Kentucky for a volleyball tournament and when I thought of Kentucky I wouldn't think I could get some of the best Asian food here but they superseded my expectations. Great food and outstanding customer service . The Hibachi with shrimp was amazing! This was my 1st time at White Buddha and they offer large portions for lunch I was more than satisfied. I was let down with this one. So much hype. I should have expected a let down due to the build up. The space is very small so eating in can be uncomfortable with the number of to go orders waiting. The food is fine. It is Asian food that is not any better or worse than other hole in the wall spots. The service is unremarkable in that it is a level that is expected at any dine in restaurant. I know that the term "hidden gem" is overused... but in White Buddha case, it describes them perfectly. Tucked back in an unassuming strip mall, they are easy to miss. I found them one day for lunch. The restaurant is small, maybe 5 booths or so, and at the time of my visit their menu was even more limited due to supply issues. I entered and was met by a very nice woman, who seated me and presented me with a menu... Since it was my first time, she gladly went over my options and was apologetic for not having certain items. I told her I completely understood and ordered a Spicy Tuna Roll and a Crunch Munch Roll: Spicy crab, cooked shrimp, tempura flakes with spicy mayo... Both rolls were very good... It is not every day that you find such quality sushi in a strip mall, but today I found it at White Budda. I am glad they are close to my office and I look forward to trying other menu options in the coming weeks. As a side note, one of my colleagues had eaten there a few days earlier and had one of their Habachi dishes. She said it was very good as well. read more

Supposed to come with 5 dumplings. Mine had 4 , which was fine because I was only able to stomach eating 2. Easily, the worst Asian cuisine I've ever had. The restaurant, though small, was very clean and well-decorated. The owners were welcoming and friendly. Service was good and the meal was delivered very quickly. I enjoyed the Lily Roll which was excellent, at par in taste with Japanese restaurants in big cities! We also ordered a dinner dish which came with a hot tasty soup and a salad. Had a quick and delicious lunch at White Buddha today. There's slim pickings for locally owned lunch places within the vicinity of my school, so I was stoked to discover this spot today! It's small inside - there's 4 tables and a cash register. We (rookie mistake) ordered at the register then sat down, when it's actually a table-service style restaurant. No biggie! Our food came out in 10-15 minutes - we each had a sushi roll, as well as gyoza and fried rice. The sushi was fresh and very filling, and the gyoza was perfect. Great food, Great service, Great owners. We've been several times now and it is consistently good. We usually get hibachi Teriyaki chicken and the steak. Quality cuts of meat. No fatty etc. Teriyaki chicken is perfectly flavored, Not overbearing like some teriyaki can be. Love the salad dressing and the mustard sauce over the rice. Had sushi rolls here before also and they were excellent! Give them a try, but off times can help, as it gets busy and not a ton of seating. read more

I love going to White Buddha. I typically get the lunch special with shrimp and steak ($13-$14) or the shrimp and chicken ($12-$13). The lunch plates include meat, vegetables, and a ton of rice (fried or white). I typically get the fried rice. The food is delicious and last me two meals usually (because they give you so much food). Also, the staff are very friendly. Make sure to get the delicious Yum Yum sauce.
