Rikishi, the best Sushi place in all of Louisville. I have been here for the past four years, they have been with me through my ups and downs. Through all of my celebrations and all of my nightly sushi runs. Truly this is the best place to be. The only bad thing about this place is that they don't open earlier. I love this place with my whole heart. I think the servers here know me by name. I love the little old man who runs the place. The ambiance is very calm. There are no words to describe my love for this place. I always love coming here after school. Now, I'm going off to college. I cried in the restaurant last night out of sheer grief, there is no other place like rikishi. I will have a Rikishi shaped hole in my heart. I already plan to come back up here specifically for this restaurant. One time I came here three times in one weekend. I ran into the owner's son and he had asked where I have been. If this restaurant ever went out of business god forbid I promise I would ever eat sushi again out of respect for this beautiful place. This place is a must especially for first dates or for outings with friends. This restaurant has watched my relationship blossom. Their hours are also very accommodating to the high school schedule, making it a nice place for the students to get a job. I remember this was the first place I had sushi, it ruined all other sushi places for me. I am sorry to have to write this review since my husband and I have loved Rikishi since it first opened. Delightfully fresh ingredients, innovative rolls, personal service, all to a boomer rock soundtrack -- we had found our sushi dream for Oldham County fulfilled! The Covid period took a lot of good restaurants down but we kept hoping Rikishi would stay afloat. It did, but with supply chain issues and lack of staff. Which I think brought about the subpar Rikishi that we initially fell in love with. The location of Rikishi has not changed but so much has that we hardly recognize it any more! Very little of Rikishi's table service is personal anymore. You are seated and asked to fill out an order form for your drinks, appetizers, and dinner. No one showed up to personally take an order but to pick up your form. We were pointed to the form a couple of times before we ever got someone to just bring drinks. The old Rikishi was not at all like this! Tonight, we ordered two reliable staples -- miso soup and squid salad. The best parts of dinner were then over as the rolls we ordered did not satisfy as usual. The spicy tuna roll tasted like a watered down version of their usual -- not fresh, not full flavored, something was just off. Watered down is the best we could guess. We were asked to scan a QR code to pay for dinner. At that point, in my mind, we had taken our own orders, received subpar sushi, and then proceeded to process our own check. We always tip graciously but, this time, we asked ourselves what we were tipping for -- service? Again, I hated to write this review. My only hope is that the owners care enough (and have the resources) to go back to their original formula of great service, fantastic sushi, and that wonderfully fun classic/yacht rock soundtrack. It's close and convenient in Crestwood. I didn't try the sushi and maybe that's why people come. We ordered the teriyaki chicken entree. It was not at all what a normal Japanese place prepares. The chicken was rubbery and leathery, like it had been precooked and then microwaved with some teriyaki sauce drizzled over it. Not the normal stir fry chicken cooked in the teriyaki. Veggies were steamed, again not stir fried, mushy and overcooked with the sauce just drizzled over it. They did sprinkle a little sesame seeds over it and that gave it flavor, but it is no where close to what a normal preparation of teriyaki chicken looks or tastes like. read more

This is a very nice, clean restaurant with excellent staff providing great service . It's just that the food was not good. Our starter of Tempura was good except for the dipping sauce that tasted like watered down soy sauce. My wife's chicken teriyaki was just very overcooked, dry, plain chicken breast with a bottled sauce drizzle. My beef yakisoba had a strange off flavor and had only a few, very small pieces of meat. And really not many vegetables either. Maybe their sushi is good?... I doubt we'll return. read more

Enjoyable dining experience. We were seated as soon as we entered the restaurant, and the server was attentive throughout our visit (quick to take drink orders, food order, and checked on us several times). I've driven by this place a few dozen times and have always been interested. Heck, at least it's another sushi option in Oldham county. The place wasn't very busy, and I guess that's what happens on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. But, that doesn't give you an excuse for poor service. I'm sure we aren't the only ones who have noticed that at literally every Japanese restaurant you've eaten at the water comes out almost before you even sit down. Well, that definitely wasn't the case here. It seem like forever until our waiter even noticed we were sitting in his section. And I get that happens on busy nights but when we were like one of two tables in your section that's rough, dude. In all reality that should've been our first clue how this place was going to be. I got hot tea, and regret I did. Green tea has its own distinctive flavor that isn't for everyone. This cup was gross, and I don't saw that very often. My wife ordered for herself and the kids, and then the guy starts walking away before I tell him what I want. It was...strange. We ended up getting 5 rolls and some other things. I'm not going to bother with names, bc the limited menu seemed to just repeat itself just switch out the protein. Wife said hers were bland. I had a deep fried crawfish roll, that seemed to be all batter and nothing else. It was probably the most fried roll I've ever had. There was no saving grace here. I guess I didn't get food poisoning, so there's that. With all the other sushi options in Louisville it's really hard for me to say I'd go back here. read more

I love this place. Before discovering Rikishi, I would drive all the way to Louisville whenever I was in the mood for Japanese food. However, I now prefer Rikishi to a lot of the places in Louisville. The food is delicious and always looks and tastes fresh (I love the presentation). The employees are friendly and the service is generally quick. The decor is nothing fancy, but it's cute and gets the point across. My favorites here are the teriyaki chicken meal and the tempura vegetables. One thing I like about Rikishi is that the vegetables that come with the hibachi style dinners are better vegetables than what I get at most hibachi restaurants. Here I can expect asparagus, a decent amount of broccoli, carrots, etc. versus the meh vegetables I've come to expect at a lot of other places. I also feel like the food gets overcooked at a lot of other places, but here it is exactly to my liking. read more

We picked up Rikishi take out and we were blown away! This sushi is so good. The Christy Roll was our favorite but everything was so good!

Sadly, I am updating this review. We went to Rikishi for years, at times once a week. The service has gotten worse and worse. The food quality seems to have fallen off. The owners wife is plain rude and has taken a much more active role in the business, mostly serving tables. Add in the increased prices and we won't be back. read more

The ambiance here is pretty meh and the service is fine, but the specialty rolls are SOOO GOOD!!! Went there with three friend I had not seen in months since the last time we met here for dinner. 5:15 reservations and we were seated immediately, had our drinks ordered and delivered within two minutes. Service was fast an friendly with service staff wearing mask and gloves, great beginning right? But the best was yet to come . Everything we ordered from my stuffed jalapeños poppers ( best version ever) and crunchy crunchy roll was excellent. My friend enjoyed the tempura shrimp dinner and shared some nigiri, a Las Vegas roll , and A spider roll. Absolutely worth the price. Worked here as a first job owner knew what he was doing. Some of the best sushi I have eaten and still frequent the place years after leaving the job. WOW! What a great experience! We came on a Sunday afternoon and it wasn't busy so we got our table immediately. There was plenty of free parking which is always a plus! We started with the Shumai and they were delicious. I had the Shrimp Fried Rice and absolutely loved it. I could have had a second serving! The rest of our table ordered 3 sushi rolls and raved about them. They are bigger rolls than normal and for the price, it is totally worth it! Let me start by saying we are fortunate to have such A variety of food choices in Crestwood. However, it is frustrating when your meal (plus tip) is over 60 dollars with no alcohol and the food is meh-ok. The one shining star was the Las Vegas roll (but really can you screw up anything fried?)- it is unfortunate that is came after a dismal over cooked appetizer and a literal cup of salad with ginger dressing. We also had yum yum and cooper #2- they were good. My biggest complaint was the noise- the phone rang almost constantly and was super loud- lots of talking and clanging of dishes and pans- almost like being in a diner. I am used to a more zen experience when eating Japanese food. read more

Great food. The place has gone to (something) with regard to service. Our server simply disappeared tonight. We were there 2.5 hours! Food took forever. It was good when we finally got it, but wow.
