    Sake is a modern Japanese restaurant with great cocktails and a fun city vibe. Come to Sake expecting perfectly prepared Sushi and an ample selection of share plates to choose from. The popcorn shrimp was crunchy fun and the garlic chicken, juicy and tender. I really enjoyed the diverse selection of quality Japanese inspired cocktails available too. Sake has counterparts in Melbourne and Sydney and I can't wait to check these out.

    Went here for after work drinks and dinner on Friday night. The food was average, not outstanding but the service made up for that. The waitress was fab. Attentive, happy to discuss options and recommendations very friendly staff but not over the top. The food was nice, but not the best sushi to date and 2 of my choices were no longer available. Chicken satay was very average. The scallop and salmon sushi was chewy and very uneven portion sizing (which isn't an issue just odd as sushi is usually so precise and presentation is usually much better). The Chocolate cake with Berry sorbet was particularly good though and worth mentioning! Will I come back?? Hmmmm; perhaps just for drinks and a snack. But won't be rushing back.

    In a city that is full of Japanese eateries it can be difficult to find a standout, but it has been found. Saké. Looking over the Eagle Street Pier dining precinct in a slightly secluded location next to the Bavarian Bier Cafe, Saké offers a modern insight to the wonderful world of Japanese cuisine. This is immediately noticeable from the elaborate furnishings which comprise a mixture of a bar with typical high table and bench seating, restaurant table seating, a handful of sunken group tables with cushion seating and bar-style seating around the kitchen. The walls and ceiling throughout are graciously filled with Japanese artefacts and artwork. Even the food menu follows the theme with its folded square design, mimicking origami. The menu itself consists of a range of traditions and modern Japanese dishes. There is a selection of the staple sushi and sashimi, tataki, teriyaki, tempura and yakitori along with some creative touches like tuna belly, tonkatsu cups, stuffed quail and popcorn shrimp - an absolute must as an appetiser. A couple of tasting menus with popular options cater for those who cannot choose from the mammoth array of food on offer. On this visit I ordered the popcorn shrimp, wagyu new-style with ginger, chives and yuzu soy, yellowfin tuna belly with edamame & jalapeño purée, sautéed shiitake mushrooms, asparagus spears and nori dressing and steamed prawn dumplings with spicy ponzu. This sounds like a lot of food but the popcorn shrimp the wagyu new-style are starters designed to share. The juicy shrimp, the melt-in-your-mouth wagyu strips and the succulent tuna, it all came together in a sensational, flavour abundant dining experience. The dumplings were particularly notable with the creative use of a nest of thin noodles as their skin. Service was spot on with attentive and polite waitstaff. With exception to the popcorn shrimp, the remaining dishes all arrived together which was a little surprising at the time, but due to the portion sizes and styles of dishes this wasn't a problem. With establishments also in Sydney and Melbourne, Saké is at the forefront of modern, creative stylings of traditional Japanese cuisine.

    Update- Nowhere near as good anymore. Had an issue with seating and rushed service. Gone is the glorious multi-coloured seaweed salad and even though we had 8 dishes none of then were anywhere near as good as before. Also bare in mind there is no view at night unless you are near front of restaurant as unlike other restaurants on river, Sake is set back and enclosed. As a lunch place (good sushi) sitting near the front with a great daytime view it was great (lunch pricing was better) but for dinner its about what you would expect but nothing more. Then they charged 2% on any card even if you said to put it on savings!!! What a rude way to end a meal!! Old review- Best japanese in Australia? Factor in the river view, deduct the waitress who needed a personality transplant, add the fact they served at 3pm and the answer is yes, due to great food!

    Sashimi delight! Thought I would check out a bit of what Brisbane had to offer in regards to more refined dining experiences and saw that Sake was a decent offering if you are in the mood for Japanese. This is one of the better Japanese places near the CBD and when you enter you are greeted with a hearty "Irasshaimase" meaning ''Welcome" from the chefs behind the bar. We managed to get a table for our group without a fuss and without a prior booking. They led us straight to our table and explained the menu and the daily specials. The meals are all served with the purpose of sharing which makes this place great for groups of all sizes. We ended up ordering several dishes. We started with Beef Tetaki and Blue Fin Tuna Sashimi (a special on that night). The Tetaki hit the spot and the Blue Fin Tuna was an offering of 3 different cuts starting out least fatty to the most fatty cut. This was exceptional. For a mains course we decided on the Miso Barramundi with Japanese Mushrooms and Seaweed Salad as accompanying dishes. The flavours were all spot on with the Barramundi being a standout dish. For desert we chose two dishes. We decided on Watermelon five ways which included a lime infused with watermelon juice (another special on that night) and a Chocolate Fondant with a white sesame ice cream. AMAZING! A fitting end to a great meal and dining experience. Definitely an experience to remember for the right reasons. Looking forward to coming back here in the future!

    Amazing service and fantastic food. Our waiter had amazing recommendations for our food and beverages. One of the best gyozas and sushi rolls I've ever had. Quite pricey but amazing quality

    If you're prepared to part with $100 (per head), you couldn't find a better place to do it than at Saké Restaurant. This really is modern Japanese at its finest. Dining in a group of 8, we had one couple choose all the starters and mains with the help of the extremely knowledgeable waitress assigned to our table. It's a shared styled of eating at Saké, which means you get to taste a little bit of everything. Stand-out starters were the Tuna Tasting Plate, Popcorn Shrimp and the Miso-Barra Lettuce Cups. After all the delicious starters, my taste buds had been tantalised enough and I really could have skipped mains and gone to dessert. Nevertheless, the Ocean Trout was pretty amazing, as was the Beef Sirloin. For dessert I had the Chocolate Fondant, a warm chocolate pudding served with sesame ice-cream. Yum. The perfect end to an amazing meal. The drinks menu boasts an extensive selection of not only the restaurant's name-sake, saké, but also wines, beers and cocktails. As newbies to the world of Japanese cuisine, our waitress chose for us some different types of saké to try. This restaurant has all areas of the dining experience covered--food, service and ambiance. All was perfect, and if I had another $100 to spare, I'd definitely return. Note: hours differ slightly between Saké's bar and restaurant. Food can be ordered from a limited menu at the bar, but for restaurant dining, best to call ahead.

    Sake, which is probably best known for its sensational sashimi, sushi and share-plates, is more than just a restaurant. Squeezing into a seat beneath the shade of a fairy-light adorned tree hanging over the edge of Eagle St, flamboyant bar tenders guide you through a menu heavily influenced by sake and shochu. The blend of house-made syrups and infused shochus are mixed, muddled and shaken together to create a Japanese-influenced concoction. Utilising fresh ginger, lemongrass, Maraschino-infused shochu and lime juice, the Ginger Ninja is one refreshing cocktail you cannot go past. The 13 page drinks menu gives you a taste for Japan - from cocktails to sake bombs (select a sake, drop it into a beer, consume). Shochu can be paired with fresh purees such as passionfruit and mixed berries, then topped with soda. If you get lost choosing the best umeshu (plum wine) or sake, never fear, as a sake sommelier is on hand to help you through the menu. Feeling peckish? Sake boasts an Ostumami menu (our bar tender explains that the English translation is 'snacks to go with alcohol') and he proceeds to recommend the salted edamame beans (like bar nuts, these babies are ridiculously moreish). Sweet tooth? No worries; head chef Shinichi Maeda (from Sake in Sydney) featured a special that night - steamed sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce. Mind-blowing. So much so, I returned the following night to indulge in it once again (second time round did NOT disappoint!).

    When I walked passed I wasn't sure if it was all looks no substance - I was wrong! The food is amazing and really high quality. Everything is presented well and the atmosphere is pleasant. The waiter did mess our order up slightly but the service was great so can't complain. For me it's not expensive as I'm from London and it would of easily been double there. Overall you have to try this spot, Great stuff!!

    Great Japanese food. Staff knowledgeable of vegan and can assits of meal selection. Good for sharing plates. Really great sake options but best to ask if not familiar with what to be order. Nice up market decor and well laid out so somewhat private tables. Good drink selection and some tables with river views available.

I had taken in my surroundings. This was clearly one of those places were all the action was saved for the kitchen, or so i hoped. I looked up to see a menu board that boasted well over fifty items, including typical Japanese favourites (teriyaki noodles, Japanese curry) to more out of the box fare (octopus balls, eel). I went with a dish that was accompanied by a yummy looking photo and while I'm not entirely sure what the ingredients were it sure was tasty. As I ate I noticed the staff preparing fresh sushi rolls behind the counter and opted to try the spicy beef. Perhaps not a traditional choice but one I can heartily recommend. A sentiment that goes for Oishi Sushi also.

Cue Sono. We loved the restaurant for the atmosphere and truly excellent service (personal, informative / knowledgeable, entertaining). We both ordered the 'tasting menu' with wine/sake pairing. For starters, the amount of alcohol in the pairing is really quite high (half full glasses x 6). Not sure that this was even possible, but I would have preferred less(!) alcohol (I guess we could have just let some of it go to waste, but that would be near sacrilegious). If you don't mind sipping from the same glass with your dinner partner, I'd recommend ordering just one wine/sake pairing (and save $45 in the process). Now, for the food. Some of it was really excellent (particularly the first half), but not all of it knocked our socks off. Definite highlights were the oyster in lime sauce (part of dish 1 - all of dish one was great really), salmon sashimi and snapper carpaccio in vinaigrette (part of 2), and the delicious crab meat croquette (part of 3). The fourth course had a delicious piece of seared salmon belly sushi, but the two pieces of cucumber sushi roll and one piece of prawn tempura roll felt a bit out of place in a menu like this. Maybe it was designed as light intermediate bite? Our mains were duck breast, which was ok but not special, and excellent Wagyu steak, but in a rather heavy sauce (too sweet imo). The desert was a chocolate cake, which was tasty, but not wow, and not spectacularly presented either, as you often get when splurging on a degustation. Wine/sake pairings were great. Service was excellent. Would be happy to eat here again some day and pick some of our favorites from this tasting menu.

Not that I'm complaining because where it's situated is convenient for me to get to plus there's easy parking. Shinbashi has a $35 all-you-can-eat Japanese BBQ which is always a popular option. I fyou go this route, make sure to try their fantastic wagyu and marble beef. However, my husband and I always splurge on their $99 Signature Selection for two. It includes these tasty additional extras like Bacon asparagus and Bacon rice cakes. There's also this buttery cheese, sweet potato dish which takes about twenty minutes to cook up on the BBQ but is worth the wait. The service here is great. They always remember to refill my green tea and there's this delicious complimentary soup which comes in a teapot that you can easily fill up on and ruin your dinner if you're not careful. If you live further afield, Shinbashi Yakiniku is definitely worth the drive out to Underwood.

There's Japanese rice beer to match, though I didn't see how that was going to be consumed amongst the plethora of meats in front of me. Also good to know - the meat is delicious, because it is marbled with delicious fat. I went on a Tuesday night and it was packed. Defs popular amongst the locals.. Or those who know its there. So man up, make the drive, and give this place a go :)
