UPDATE 08/2011
My original review of this place was pretty harsh, I hated the place for many reasons.
However, and possibly in response to my comments (as if?), they've refurbished and re-designed.
Basically they have made much better use of the space, the aisles are wider, and the location of items now allows for a far better free flow through the shop.
The self checkout kiosks also help with the throughput when you come to pay.
So there we have it, it's a pretty normal Saisnbury local, and as such it can't get more than 3/5.
Oh and although this one isn't as bad as the main one in East Dulwich, I still recommend you double, triple and quadruple read the details and check the weights of any packs of special offers that are on. They are notoriously bad for misleading labelling, placing the higher weight items that aren't on the offer on the special offer shelves, mixing offer and non-offer products up, and confusing price/weight combinations. Check out the tomatoes, some are per 100g, some per lb, and some 'each'. Great way to deliberately confuse you into not being able to work out which are the cheaper ones. Love it.
Here's the old review so you can compare it your self:
I can't stress enough how much I hate this shop.
Not only is it the worst Saisnbury's I've ever been to, it probably wins top prize for being the worst 'convenience' store ever. That word is almost a joke in itself in context with this place.
I think my main issue is that it's far too small for purpose. But to compound that fact it's badly organised and badly stocked. They seriously need to stop stocking the bottom 25% of items and remove one of the aisles and make some more room. The second you get a pram (all the time), or person with a gym bag (also frequently) then you can't move.
Why is it necessary to sell 50 different loafs of bread!? Then there's half an aisle of pitta breads. Then clear out half an aisle of woman's magazines. They could probably get rid of that pointless bakery bit with it's huge row of pastries. It's nice to grab one as a treat, but it's hardly essential!! Be nice if they actually stocked a better range of fresh produce and meats.
There is a perfectly good bakery, green grocer and butcher in Herne Hill by the station, and even a decent Off licence as well. The shopping experience at those places is like a pleasant dream compared to the hideous nightmare using this Sainsbury's is.
If I have high blood pressure then this shop is the cause. It was so disappointing to find out that the old Indian on the corner is being turned into some generic restaurant rather than a nice Waitrose or M+S to put this shop out of business.
So to summarise, only use this place if you absolutely have to, and be prepared for your health and sanity to suffer! read more
