I am far from a serious weightlifter, but wanted to keep up with my training during our two week stay in Nags Head. First big pro was that I could sign up for my two-week membership online before I arrived, and my first visit took less than 5 minutes to get my key tag and finalize my membership. Membership includes towel service which, especially for those on vacation like me, is a big plus. Additionally, the locker rooms provide (non-locking, open) cubbies, toilets, a sauna, and three showers. During each of my 7 visits, I found the locker rooms to be clean and never without a clean towel. The gym itself has just about every piece of equipment you could want, and I never found myself having to wait too long for equipment, benches, or squat racks. Some equipment is a little more well-loved than others, but there are also some brand-spanking new pieces of equipment, so the owners are clearly putting money back into new equipment. And the more well-loved pieces are still functional, just with some wear and slightly uneven resistance at times. But by far the most impressive thing was the gym culture. Had a chance to chat with a few regulars, and each was awesome and supportive. A guy I'd never met before and who clearly spends a lot of time in the gym came over and gave me a fist bump and encouraging word after pushing through the last few reps of a tough set. It's hard to put a price on that kind of culture. Overall, well worth the price for me. I'll for sure be back next year!

The studio is clean and spacious with a very relaxing vibe. I used the studio's props and mat and appreciated how clean they were. The bathroom was also well stocked and clean. I'm recovering from a hip replacement so I met with the instructor, Anna, prior to class. She was very friendly and encouraged me to do what felt best for my body at any time. The flow of the class was perfect for any level. I am new to yoga so it was comforting to notice Anna checking in with me during the class. I highly recommend this studio to enhance your practice and your OBX experience.

There is so much variety! I love taking Amie's BODYPUMP class, Brooke's TONE class, Diane's PILATES (Mat & Reformer) class and Tamara's YOGA class. There are lots of classes in addition to these that I haven't tried yet, so I recommend coming in to check out all they have to offer, as I'm sure you'll find classes that will be just the right fit for you. EQUIPMENT/MACHINES - There is a huge variety of equipment at Sound, along with many different weight machines to choose from. There are plenty of treadmills, ellipticals, cycling and stair machines...too many to list, actually. PERSONAL TRAINERS - There are some wonderful personal trainers at Sound Fitness and I had the pleasure of working with Brooke (the owner) recently. She is amazing! I can not speak highly enough about this yoga studio. First off, it is sparkling clean and very inviting. It is also located in a gallery, so if you are in to artwork, local jewelry, etc. there is some additional shopping for you to check out as well. I am always open to trying new classes, and new studios - this one, was one of my favorites of all time. Cena, the owner/instructor was amazingly sweet & kind - her practice both days was great, but very different each day. There were candles, incense, and again - just the atmosphere was awesome.
