the two rats I purchased. they're bonded and sweet with each other.
Ashlyn G.

I'd say that this is the best pet store in the area, but some information I got when purchasing a pet rat was just plain wrong... i was told that it's okay to keep a single rat, that the cage they showed me was big enough, that I needed to feed him three different kinds of food (and the amounts were wrong), that I shouldn't handle him for two weeks, that a wooden house was perfect for him... that's all pretty bad info. I went back the next day to get one of the litter mates for my rat, returned the food they had me buy... you need to do your research and be CONFIDENT that you know the universally accepted care methods for the pet you're buying. I regret being nervous and talked out of what I knew to be best after months of researching for pet rats. my rats are skittish but we're working on that. they seem to be healthy and are growing well! the owner (?) is knowledgeable about rats for the most part, but some of the staff need better training.

Improper hides and enclosures
Sarah A.

This store is the only place I can get frozen rats for my ball python. The rats are fine. The staff is usually helpful. However, the way in which they treat the other animals in this store is unacceptable. Multiple times I have seen them putting two or more ball pythons in an enclosure together, both juvenile and adult, and every single hide for their reptiles are facing the glass (meaning that they don't really provide any sense of security for the animal). This is EXTREMELY stressful for the animals and dangerous if one of the co-habbed animals gets sick (which they are more likely to get ill when not given proper husbandry like this). When I asked someone working at the store why they had two BPs in one enclosure, they said that "they were brought in together". Ball pythons are not dogs. They do not form friendly bonds. They should have never been together in the first place and that is no excuse. The ball pythons are stressed. They are on paper bedding with no temperature gages or humidity gages visible. There is no way they can have enough space to regulate their temperature (their tanks are approx. 10-20 gallon for two ADULT ball pythons!) This is unacceptable. Please change this treatment for the animals. If you don't have the room to properly house these animals, either don't accept them or buy more tanks. Hell, even a rack system would be better. Please fix this. It is not okay.

This is the place to go! Whether you're looking for fish, reptiles, or pets of the furry kind, they have you covered. I frequent them for fish and, most recently, bought a baby ball python. He's healthy and eating very well. Go there. You won't be disappointed.

The staff is not particularly friendly, and while helpful, they leave one feeling as if they are an inconvenience or just plain dumb. The last time I was in, I had some questions regarding specific food for our puppy who needed, per our vet, a food that was more grain-forward, and the girl kept showing me high protein brands. When I questioned her again, she looked at her colleagues and rolled her eyes. It is not unreasonable to expect a feed store to have alternative diet options than just grain-free dog food and treats, especially at the price range they in which they are offering their products. What's more, puppy foods do come in more than just chicken, even in brands than what they offer. I went to another store, who offered to help me order it, and when I reached out to the actual company, they sent me my first bag for FREE! To be a local, small business owner is hard, I get it, but if you continually reject your neighbors, who want to shop at your business, we will just choose to go somewhere else. On another occasion, I was in line behind an older woman, presumably in her late 60's, who was inquiring about a job, she had completed an application, and had some questions. I was not in a hurry, was not upset, and had not expression to indicate that I was bothered - quite the contrary! The young girl at the service counter was so incredibly rude to this woman, snapped answers to the applicant, rolled her eyes, sighed loudly, and showed very visibly her impatience. The applicant walked out, hopeful. The cashier then handed the application to another woman who had walked up, who just slid it into a folder under the desk, and filed it. They both apologized profusely to me for the inconvenience and "bother," to which I replied, it is not a crime to seek employment. I explained that I was not in a hurry, and that we all should show kindness to those who are desperately seeking employment at this time of year. I did note that day that there are no older folks working there, and really no one of diverse background. It is all young girls. Strange really. Anyway, I realized that day, that this is not really a place I feel I want to do business, especially when every time I go in, I do not feel welcome to shop, to ask questions, or think they even appreciate me as a consumer. Too bad, as it is a very niche business and vital for many pet and livestock owners.

You're supposed to call once completing the application to set up an appointment. When I called about an hour after filling out the application, I was as told by Judy the lady who runs/owns the rescue that someone else called for the cat and she would be meeting with him over us because he allied first even though we filled out an application first! I guess she knew him cause he had already adopted from them before. She offered up some of the other kittens from the litter but my 5 year old was set on the one we applied for. How do you do that to people who have emotionally committed themselves to an animal? By not even considering to try and talk to this other applicant and explaining to him he was actually not first for this cat and telling me he's adopted from them before and called first, she's lost my business forever. Unfortunately for all the cats and kittens, I will never adopt from this FOR PROFIT organization, ever! My husband and I were actually in the market to adopt several older cats and a few kittens (we're getting a farm) and will never deal with this organization again! My kid is actually heartbroken right now and so am I a bit. This woman should not be in charge of this organization, there's nothing organized about it. This was just so wron and terrible! I'd suggest adopting from somewhere else to avoid the heartache!

Goldleaf Collies

(1 review)

When you go to www.goldleafcollies.com you will see what appears to be the most informative website…read morewhere you will find the prettiest collies and speak to the breeder. You will think you have come across the most credible and knowledge breeder that ever existed. When you go there you will see a clean facility for the dogs and think to yourself, "Wow, Goldleaf must be a responsible and a quality breeder." Unfortunately, you need to think twice when it comes to Goldleaf collies. I purchased a pup from Gerry at Goldleaf Collies in October 2010 whose parents are Scout and Song of my Heart aka Reba. By March 2011 our little guy (who we love and adore) was diagnosed with severe bilateral hip dysplasia. I immediately contacted the breeder (Gerry) to inform her and was told that she had no knowledge of a history of dysplasia in her litters. We do not want to return our puppy, nor do we do want our money back; we only want the breeder to do the responsible thing for the sake of the collie breed, which she sells without any restrictions (so who knows how far this will travel). Goldleaf Collies has continued to breed Scout many times with other females and yet again Reba and Scout had another litter. When I found out about the hip dysplasia I was told Reba was expecting; yet with full knowledge of our pup (sired by Reba & Scout) Goldleaf Collies sold all the pups in the new litter as though they are healthy, which I sincerely hope they are. Our collie from Goldleaf has undergone an FHO and is having difficulty developing muscle. Now, almost 6 months later there is still no word as to who the carrier is. I contacted Goldleaf Collies again only to find out another pup from my collie's litter is being euthanized because of a muscle defect. Could this be why my guy can't develop the muscle on the FHO side. My fellow has been in rehab for 5 months and we have thrown everything at this to help him. But, even when asked only for information the breeder has NEVER advised me of who the carrier is!!! Yet she continues to breed these pups knowing full well that there is a problem! I thought I was dealing with a reputable breeder who was knowledgeable and had a true love for her animals. Sadly all I can do is walk away from my experience broken hearted with a pup so severely afflicted with the bi-lateral hip dysplasia and possibly a muscle issue that impedes his recovery. The surgical leg so weak they can't even approach repairing the other side. Don't be fooled by the illusion you found a quality breeder. My experience dealing with Goldleaf Collies has only represented negligence in the breeding of the dogs and clearly once the sale is made this breeder is done with you. I would never recommend this breeder to anyone no matter how lovely a web-page she has or the illusion of quality.
