I recently purchased a $70 Yeti water bottle from this store, only to discover a clear manufacturing defect in the lid. When I brought it back last Friday, I expected a straightforward exchange -- after all, it's a defective part. Instead, I was told the store's policy is to keep the entire bottle and wait to hear back from Yeti. That means I've now been without a water bottle for nearly a week, with no resolution in sight. What's frustrating is that I can't return the bottle because I used it (to drink water). This rigid process makes no sense for a premium product with a known defect. I expected better customer service and accountability, especially from a store that specializes in quality outdoor gear. I'll be going to Cabela in the future. read more

For someone such as myself who is very into walking/hiking and camping this is my sanctuary. There are 2 floors. I prefer SAIL over MEC. Anything you want that has to do with the outdoors, they will have it! They have hiking, camping, clothing, fishing and camping. I appreciate there are many staff members around their respective department and will answer any questions you may have. It is a bit more on the expensive side but the quality is there. However, I am removing 1 star because I bought a canoe and the sign for pick up was so small to find in the back it took a while to find it. Just be careful, because if you do not stick with your list, you could buy way more than you anticipated. read more

Had a great experience today. Heading off to Iceland so I needed some new hiking boots and other gear. The woman who assisted me with my hiking boots was excellent (wish I got her name). She met my needs instead of any upsell at other places. Also kudos to customer service (Danielle and 2 others) who were very helpful and willing to price match. There have been various grand openings of Sail around the GTA. I had never set foot in one until I was at the Trainyards. I saw this massive Sail store and decided to check it out. Sail is like MEC, except that you do not need to get a free membership. There are a ton of outdoorsy items, such as canoes, tents, backpacks, and more. I also enjoyed some novelty, fun items, such as cushions that looked like logs. When I do visit a store like Sail, I like looking at shoes and accessories. The beverage tumblers and travel accessories always interest me. I like looking at unusual cleaners, such as down wash. It's all good in my books. I also like looking at the footwear. I used to be into hiking shoes. I like seeing what's trendy in this department. I didn't buy anything, but it was nice to browse. There are two floors, so you can spend a good hour in here if you wanted to. Hey, camp out and set up a tent! Oh, wait. The tents are already up and it was fun going into each one. (267) read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this store yet. I love Sail. I am not an outdoorsy, camping and hiking type of person but I like comfortable and fashionable clothes. I also like cool looking workout clothes. I go to Sail exclusively for clothes, but they also sell things (that I admittedly have no interest in) like tents, kayaks, and fishing bait. The store is geared towards people who are interested in these things. However, staff are always nice to me, even though I think it's pretty obvious to them that I am not their target demographic (I don't think I have ever seen anyone else in there in heels and a full face of makeup, lol). I hate ironing, so I love clothes that are made for backpacking travellers. I really like the dresses from brands like Prana, Toad & Co., Lole, Royal Robbins, and FIG, and Sail carries these brands. I also like their athletic wear from brands like Karma. Their regular prices are on the high side, but they often have 20-30% off sales, and at the end of the season they have 40-70% off sales. Admittedly, that is the only time I make purchases at Sail. The store is huge and covers 2 levels. It's always really clean. It's in the Trainyards Shopping Complex, so there's plenty of free parking. read more

We came in here on a Thursday afternoon on the hunt for a wetsuit for Noah K. The store wasn't busy, but there were definitely busier than I thought they'd be on a weekday afternoon. The store is similar to MEC - a kind of haven for outdoor adventurers and athletes. Filled with camping gear, water sport paraphernalia (kayaks, rafts, canoes, and everything that goes with them), fishing gear and more. I was surprised to see a huge clothing section and footwear - I'd say that selection is better than MEC. We headed over to the "nautical" section and spoke with a very knowledgable staff member who went through the different types of wetsuits they had, the benefits of each style, and how they should fit. She was really helpful and picked out some options to try on. The fitting rooms are super clean and well-lit and the staff are friendly. Beware though - they close with burlap curtains so make sure you shut them all the way or you might be giving a free show to other shoppers! The prices here are definitely high here, though to be fair, everything is quite good quality. They seemed to have several sales, and I feel like this is a good time of year to pick up outdoor gear since the season is winding down. If you're an avid camper, or love outdoor sports, I would definitly check them out! read more

When we arrived at the store we were both wearing masks and were approached by a staff member while we were applying sanitizer to our hands. This store has a lot of veriaty and you'll most likely find what your looking for. The prices on the other hand... I think are a bit over priced. I went in here looking for a winter jacket. I found 3 different jackets I had already saw at sport check earlier that day. All the jackets were at least 100$ more at SAIL. I was shocked to see the prices. There is a lot of selection under one roof. Especially in footwear. For one stop comparison shopping (since footwear can be tricky) this place is great. Prices...in line with competitors. 3 stars for location which is a little industrial - Trainyards complex. However, I did bring a friend here - she was looking to find a pair of boots for a backpacking trip across Europe (more like hiking boots) and she found a pair that fit her perfectly, and at a decent price-point. read more

I was looking at snowshoes. I notice some prices had gone down to match Candian tire, MEC is still cheaper! Web site says snowshoes up to 50% off I found what I was looking for, sales person said they 20% off. (only leasor brand, special purchase were 50% off). I decide to buy and was told no, the pair I wanted was actually 10% off. So I said that's not what I was told by another sales person. He literally laughed in face, I said I didn't appreciate that.
